  Today I was notifed of updates, some of them being libapt. • How to get the level and position of the player from an extern program? [on hold]

  I want to write a program that needs the current level and position of the player (primary single player). This should work for potentially every game installed and running on the computer my program is running on. The data I need is basically one integer value for the level (if there are any) and three integer values for x, y and optimal z for the position of the player. In which relation/scale or where the null point is does not matter, because this information is going to be interpreted game dependent, I will use this information to read information out of a database created for the game currently running. Currently I'm using C++, but if there is a better option for Java I´m willing to port my program. My thoughs so far are: make a mod for every game that should be supported, get the position/level from there, write this information to the disk and read it from my program tracking mouse/keyboard events and reconstructing the movement won't work Are there any general APIs for something like this? Any Tool to find this data? Or maybe engines that provide APIs to get this data directly from the game?

• No wubildr, No spaceleft, Boot Error and A previous installation was detected in D:\ubuntu. Please uninstall that before continuing

  At first I was downloading Ubuntu 12.10 using Windows Installer, but I cancelled it after just 2-3 minutes and dowloaded 32-Bit ISO (ubuntu-12.10-desktop-i386). Then I created bootable USB Stick (new HP 210 v210 w) using Pendrivelinux (Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.1.4). I Formatted D Drive. (Both by Windows & EaseUS) I've set boot priority correctly. But after getting message "Boot Error", I ran wubi.exe directly from USB drive. Now the message is "A previous installation was detected in D:\ubuntu. Please uninstall that before continuing." I formatted D: again and performed disk check, surface test using EaseUS. It shows no error or bad sectors. Formatted & checked my pendrive too. Directly ran .iso. But same error keeps coming. I found way around above problems, by copying extracted .iso on D:\ and installing Ubuntu using wubi.exe and though on boot it was shown with Windows 7, selecting it caused following error Try hd(0,0): NTFS5 : No wubildr Try hd(0,1): NTFS5 : So, I uninstalled it and Reeinstalled it Now installation fails at around 7mins saying " An error occurred. No space left on device. For more info please see log file " My D: is a 9 GB partition. (99% Free) Ubuntu Site 12.10 says it needs around 4.5 GB. Now Trying it by extendin D: to 10 GB... Got No wubildr. Please help. tdc2bdc

• Ubuntu 11.10 Random reboots how to find root cause?

  All, This issue started with 11.04, I upgraded to 11.10 this week in hopes it would correct it, but after a few days it happened again.. A few times a day, randomly, my monitors will go black and the machine will come back in the post screen and boot up again. Sometimes it boots up properly, sometimes it boots to disk scan (I understand why...the machine just died with a bunch of stuff open) and sometimes it takes several cycles of this to come up. I connected to the system with my laptop and tailed dmesg, syslog, kern.log, and Xorg.0.log. I also ran a cat /proc/kmesg. Nothing is showing up in any of these log files when it happens..it's just like someone has pulled the plug. I just got through running 4 hours of the memory test with no errors. I have a AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor and Nvida 9500GT graphics card. This system has been stable for like 4 years. I'm thinking it might be a hardware problem, but how do I find out? Thanks,

• Delete Ubuntu and Grub from PC (and BIOS unaccessible)

  I've really done a mess while upgrading 12.04 to 12.10, or my PC did, or ubuntu did, I can't really tell. The situation now is I have a dual booting machine, Windows 7 and ubuntu 12.10 -When turning on the PC, I can't access boot options, I've tried every thing, esc, f1 f8, f10 (I have a Hp pavilion) but all I can see is a short-lasting screen with three lines reading something like "error:files not found" or "link not found". So the PC turns to the Grub loader screen. This is already a BIG problem. It means I can't change boot order, and I'm diperate, since it doensn't seem that repairing my operating systems will bring my BIOS back. -If I chose Ubuntu in grup, it loades but then frezes on the desktop, I may be having problem with unity3d, or compiz, which was reported to be crashing the first times I started ubuntu. Now, after turning off and on the pc several times, no crash is reported again. Ubuntu just load my background image and nothing else. Not the side menu, not the header, nothing. Althogh the system seems "functioning", when I press the power button on the PC, for example, the normal shutdown dialog window appears. -If I chose Windows, Grubs tells me that something is not found, and to press any key to continue; I do it and then Windows loads perfectly. What I now want to do is 1- use EasyBSD to change boot order and boot Windows partition first 2- delete the ubuntu partitions from within windows disk manager What I except happening is that My PC turns to, or near to factory booting settings: I press the power button and Windows loads without asking me nothing I have acess to all my hardisk from withing windows Is that what will really happen? Are there danger I'm not seeing? What I don't except happening is The BIOS access key return functioning How could I eventually solve this? I would like to reinstall Ubuntu, 32 bit version this time.

• The [2] table entry '[3]' has no associated entry in the Media table. (error 2602)

  Coworker started getting the above message in the event log and as dialog during install.  Argument [2] was File and argument [3] was a specific file. Error dialog read   Product: (app name) -- The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2602. Package was a vendor-provided MSI that had been installed administratively, and then a patch (.msp) applied to the administrative install point. With some digging we found that the MSI still had the entries in the media table pointing at the CAB files, and that there were several files at the end of the sequence that did not have corresponding entries in the Media table (last sequence 990 in Media table, last entry in File table had sequence 994).  Attributes on files in the File table all had the msidbFileAttributesCompressed (&16384) attribute set, so they were all expecting to be within the CAB files, but since this was an admin install there were no CAB files. Resolved by clearing the Media table (replace with a single entry: Disk ID 1, LastSequence 994) and going through the file table and subtracting 8192 from each entry to mark files as not compressed.  Tested and worked.

• C programming multiple storage backends

  I am starting a side project in C which requires multiple storage backends to be driven by a particular piece of logic. These storage backends would each be linked with the decision of which one to use specified at runtime. So for example if I invoke my program with one set of parameters it will perform the operations in memory but if I change the program configuration it would write to disk. The underlying idea is that each storage backend should implement the same protocol. In other words the logic for performing operations should need to know which backend it is operating on. Currently the way I have thought to provide this indirection is to have a struct of function pointers with the logic calling these function pointers. Essentially the struct would contain all the operations needed to implement the higher level logic E.g. struct Context { void (* doPartOfDoOp)(void) int (* getResult)(void); } //logic.h void doOp(Context * context) { //bunch of stuff context->doPartOfDoOp(); } int getResult(Context * context) { //bunch of stuff return context->getResult(); } My questions is if this way of solving the problem is one a C programmer would understand? I am a Java developer by trade but enjoy using C/++. Essentially the Context struct provides an interface like level of indirection. However I would like to know if there is a more idiomatic way of achieving this.

  I've written a class library that reads from an xml file and return the result as a string. But when I want to install it as a COM+ component, an error occurred (Error Code: 80131501). Finally is it possible to convert every new frame into a bitmap (this is used for later processing) using BufferCB and if so how? • WPF DataContext does not refresh the DataGrid using MVVM model

  Project Overview I have a view which binds to a viewmodel containing 2 ObserverableCollection. The viewmodel constructor populates the first ObserverableCollection and the view datacontext is collected to bind to it through a public property called Sites. Later the 2ed ObserverableCollection is populated in the LoadOrders method and the public property LoadFraudResults is updated for binding it with datacontext. I am using WCF to pull the data from the database and its getting pulled very nicely. But, when I call BindItemsSource again to repopulate the obseravablecollection based on changed selected combo value via cmbWebsite_SelectionChanged, the observalblecollection gets populated with new value and LoadFraudResults property in viewmodule is populated with new values; but when i call the datacontext to rebind the datagrid,the datagrid does not reflect the changed values. In other words the datagrid doesnot get changed when the datacontext is called the 2ed time in BindItemsSource method of the view. manageFraudOrderViewModel.LoadOrders(website); this.DataContext = manageFraudOrderViewModel; manageFraudOrderViewModel values are correct but the datagrid is not relected with changed values. When we need a specified password we get it from the registry and decrypt it so we can use it.   I recently built a simple web-app deployed over Tomcat. The app uses pretty standard session based security where a user who has logged in is given a session. Sessions work fine in Firefox and Chrome, but require the use of jsessionid in the URL for IE (tested 7 & 8), set to medium privacy. In IE 8, I tried to override cookie handling, setting "Allow all 3rd party cookies" and "Allow all session cookies"- no dice. However, when I run Tomcat on my local machine, IE accepts the cookie, and sessions work just fine. And now, for the HTTP headers. • How to Zip one IEnumerable with itself

  I am implementing some math algorithms based on lists of points, like Distance, Area, Centroid, etc. Just like in this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2227828/find-the-distance-required-to-navigate-a-list-of-points-using-linq That post describes how to calculate the total distance of a sequence of points (taken in order) by essentially zipping the sequence "with itself", generating the sequence for Zip by offsetting the start position of the original IEnumerable by 1. So, given the Zip extension in .Net 4.0, assuming Point for the point type, and a reasonable Distance formula, you can make calls like this to generate a sequence of distances from one point to the next and then to sum the distances: var distances = points.Zip(points.Skip(1),Distance); double totalDistance = distances.Sum(); Area and Centroid calculations are similar in that they need to iterate over the sequence, processing each pair of points (points[i] and points[i+1]). I thought of making a generic IEnumerable extension suitable for implementing these (and possibly other) algorithms that operate over sequences, taking two items at a time (points[0] and points[1], points[1] and points[2], ..., points[n-1] and points[n] (or is it n-2 and n-1 ...) and applying a function. My generic iterator would have a similar signature to Zip, but it would not receive a second sequence to zip with as it is really just going to zip with itself.   I have to traverse a matrix and say how many "characteristic areas" of each type it has. A characteristic area is defined as a zone where elements of value n or n are adjacent. • Enable button based on TextBox value (WPF)

  This is MVVM application. There is a window and related view model class. There is TextBox, Button and ListBox on form. Button is bound to DelegateCommand that has CanExecute function. Idea is that user enters some data in text box, presses button and data is appended to list box. I would like to enable command (and button) when user enters correct data in TextBox. Things work like this now: CanExecute() method contains code that checks if data in property bound to text box is correct. Text box is bound to property in view model UpdateSourceTrigger is set to PropertyChanged and property in view model is updated after each key user presses. Problem is that CanExecute() does not fire when user enters data in text box. It doesn't fire even when text box lose focus. How could I make this work? Edit: Re Yanko's comment: Delegate command is implemented in MVVM toolkit template and when you create new MVVM project, there is Delegate command in solution. As much as I saw in Prism videos this should be the same class (or at least very similar). I found command manager helper class in DelegateCommand.cs and I'll look into it, maybe there is some mechanism that could help. Anyway, idea that in order to activate command based on user input, one needs to "nudge" command object in property setter code looks clumsy. It will introduce dependencies and one of big points of MVVM is reducing them. Is it possible to solve this problem by using dependency properties?

  I have a bulk uploading object in place that is being used to bulk upload roughly 25-40 image files at a time. Each image is about 100-150 kb in size. During the upload, I've created a for each loop that takes the file name of the image (minus the file extension) to write it into a column named "sku". Also, for each file being uploaded, the date is recorded to a column named DateUpdated, as well as some image path data. This is because these product images are always being revised and improved. For each new/improved image, the file name and extension will remain the same - so that when image 321-54321.jpg was first uploaded to the server, the new/improved version of that image will still have the image file name as 321-54321.jpg. I can't say for sure if the file sizes will remain in the 100-150KB range. I'll assume that the image file size will grow eventually. When images get uploaded (again), there of course will be an existing record in the database for that image. What is the best way to: Check the database for the existing record (stored procedure or SqlDataReader or create a DataSet ...?) Then if record exists, simply UPDATE that record so that the DateUpdated column gets today's date. If no record exists, do the INSERT of the record as normal. Things to consider: If the record exists, we'll let the actual image be uploaded. It will simply overwrite the existing image so that the new version gets displayed on the web. We're using SQL Server 2000 on hosted environment (DiscountAsp). I'm programming in C#. The uploading process will be used by about 2 managers a few times a month (each) - which to me is not a allot of usage. Although I'm a jr. developer, I'm guessing that a stored procedure would be the way to go. Just seems more efficient - to do this record check away from the for each loop... but not sure. I'd need extra help writing a sproc, since I don't have too much experience with them. Thank everyone...
