• Windows Backup failed as another backup or recovery is in progress.

  Hi, i have set up backup schedule on our server. SQL Server 2008 to 01:00am on windows server 2008 R2 to 4:00am. Sql backup runs well, but system backup ends sometimes with error. The error is : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd364768%28WS.10%29.aspx I mean, that is caused by SQL Server, because it unexpectedly runs backup. this is from sql server log (it runs for every database): Date 4.2.2010 4:00:21 Log SQL Server (Current - 29.1.2010 23:25:00) Source spid72 Message I/O is frozen on database master. No user action is required. However, if I/O is not resumed promptly, you could cancel the backup. and Date 4.2.2010 4:00:24 Log SQL Server (Current - 29.1.2010 23:25:00) Source Backup Message Database backed up. • Excel crashes when opening Excel files from Internet Explorer

  I have been running into some issues when opening Excel files from Internet Explorer, generally the first document or two will open fine but after that trying to open a file will cause Excel and Internet Explorer to crash to the desktop without any notifications being given. This doesn't happen for users who are running Excel 2007, but for users with Excel 2003 it may or may not happen to them. The files in question are Excel XML files and Internet Explorer 6 and Excel 2003 are being use. At this time it would not be possible to upgrade Internet Explorer, but it would be able to upgrade to Excel to version 2007 if that would resolve the issue. Overdue Update: We recently upgraded to Firefox at the office which has rendered this error a non-issue; however, it is still unresolved from the standpoint that we haven't been able to come up with an explanation to the issue. Since IE6 is still installed on the systems, a fix to the problem (or explanation of why it's happening) would be appreciated.

• Cheap dvr media server

  I would like to build a new computer to be used as a DVR and media server. I am thinking of using mythtv as the DVR software, but short of that decision I am completely open to suggestions. Requirements: Must be cheap. Must have low power consumption (since it will always be on). Should be quiet. Should be small. I'm really not sure where to start with this project, and am open to any hardware/software suggestions. Is it possible to build a small quiet and cheap system? *Keep in mind I am working on this project because I am tired of Cable rate increases, but I can't imagine living without a DVR so cost is very important and I would like the system to be sub $200.00. The system also needs to handle the new digital broadcast system. Thanks for the help,

  I’ve been trying everything; this is the last chance I have. I moved folders and files from an old Windows Server 2003 File Server to a new FS (Win Server 2008 R2) with DFS and ABE enabled. Now, a specific Shared Excel file is driving me crazy, out of a sudden, lots of times per day, users are getting the following error while opening that file: Filename.xlsx is locked for editing by ‘another user’. Open ‘Read-Only’ or, click ‘Notify’ to open.. • After forced quit, “killall Finder” says “No matching processes…” but PID still exists?

  Here's one for ya. Upon a forced quit of the Finder with unsuccessful relaunch, "killall Finder" in terminal returns: "No matching processes belonging to you were found" Oddly enough, the PID for finder does actually show up after a "ps -A" to reveal all processes. But the time is perpetually listed as 0:00:00, upon repeated PID listings. I tried the following to manually launch it: open /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app But it puked: LSOpenFromURLSpec() failed with error -600 for the file /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app. Any other ideas on a Finder relaunch that don't involve rebooting? (I usually have 6 spaces open at once, each with a handful of apps and it's a pain reloading them all.)

• Windows 7 Backup not backing up custom library?

  I have created a custom Library under Windows 7 64bit professional to handle my source code. When I tried Windows Backup and Restore for the first time I get the following error Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Source. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)) I've found a thread on the error on the Microsoft answers site. But it appears to be 404 (there is a version in Google's Cache) and the thread starter never gets an answer to his issue that works. The official Microsoft answer on this is This problem is due to one or more profiles under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList with missing ProfileImagePath. To check whether you have missing profiles: Open regedit, navigate to the above registry key. (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList). Expand the list Click on each of the profiles listed. The first 3 profiles should have ProfileImagePath value of %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\SystemProfile, %SystemRoot%\ServiceProfiles\LocalService, and %SystemRoot%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService respectively. Starting from the 4th profile, the ProfileImagePath should contain path to the user profiles on your machine, such as C:\users\Christine If one or more of the profile has no profile image, then you have missing profiles. To work around this, delete the profile in question (Caution: The registry contains critical settings that are necessary for your system to function properly. Take extra caution while making changes) First, export the ProfileList key for safekeeping. (Right click on the key, choose “Export”, and save it to the desktop.) Right click on the profile in question, choose delete. Try backup again. This does not work for me. Anyone have any idea what is going on here?

• ssh tunnel error "ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host"

  I'm trying to use an ssh tunnel from my office machine to my home machine, and get an error when I try to use it. What I'm doing is starting one shell like so: ssh -gL 12345:my.home.domain:22 my.home.domain This is giving me a proper shell, no problem. What I normally do then is ssh to my home machine through this office machine, like so: ssh -p 12345 127.0.0.1 This has always worked for me, until last week, when I set up a new system on my home machine (switching from Ubuntu to Debian). Now I get an error. I can still open up my initial ssh connection, but when I try to use that tunnel, I get (on the office machine) this error: ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host Also, when that happens, the open shell that I have the tunnelling set up through gets this line spat out at it: channel 3: open failed: connect failed: Connection timed out At which point, I'm at a loss. If any more info is needed, I'll be happy to post it. ============= further to that ============== After fiddling around further, I've found that I'm getting a different response from the server (my home machine that is) when I try to telnet in on the various ports. If I try: telnet my.home.domain 22 I get this back: Trying <my ip address>... Connected to <my domain>. Escape character is '^]'. SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.5p1 Debian-6+squeeze2 Which is what I would expect. After setting up the tunnel though, and then telnetting to that, I see this response: Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to 127.0.0.1. • Can't connect to website after altering IPTables

  I attempted to open up a port on my VPS, but I can't connect to my website after opening up that port. Below are the commands I issued to open the port. I didn't get an error or anything after setting this up. I just can't connect to my website after doing this. • Lotus Notes 8.5.3 "Unable To Invoke Program"

  Just got a little issue with some of my users today, when trying to open an email attachment in Lotus Notes, they get the error Unable To Invoke Program. Now, they can always just save the attachment and then open it through windows explorer, which is fine, but I would rather get a proper solution for this. Knowing almost nothing about Lotus Notes does not help me I know but I think it may have something to do with the default file association, however my colleague tells me that Notes uses the windows file associations, which are working. Any ideas anyone?

• Add custom command line to extended context menu in Windows 7

  I have an application pinned to the task bar. 90% of the time, I run it with no additional command line options, so I can either click it (if not already open), or right click the icon and click the application name to open a new instance. I want to make it where when I right click it, there are 2 options listed: the first is the program with no command line options and the second is the one with a custom command line (that I hard code). If this is impossible, it would be tolerable to add it to the extended context menu (shift + right click the icon), but I prefer the former.

• How to make computer interface with circuit

  I understand that I can build a circuit that will do whatever I like (ex: a simple circuit that will turn on a motor to open the blinds or something), and I can write a program that will automate my computer/mac however I like (ex: open this program at this time, or with this input and create a new file, ect). My question is, how can I interface the two? Is there an easy DIY or cheap commercial (or not cheap but functional) USB plug that will turn on/off from computer commands? I'm basically looking for some sort of on/off switch I can script/applescript. How would you even approach this problem, would I have to write my own driver some where along the way?

  I'm trying to watch ICMP redirects in a lab using Cisco Packet Tracer (version 5.3.2) and I'm not seeing them, which leads me to believe that either my lab configuration isn't correct or my understanding of ICMP redirects isn't correct or that Packet Tracer doesn't support/use ICMP redirects. Here's what I believe to be true regarding ICMP redirects: Routers send ICMP redirects when all of these conditions are met: The interface on which the packet comes into the router is the same interface on which the packet gets routed out. The subnet or network of the source IP address is on the same subnet or network of the next-hop IP address of the routed packet. The datagram is not source-routed. The router kernel is configured to send redirects. I have the lab set up in Cisco Packet Tracer as displayed in the image and would expect to see an ICMP redirect from Router1 when pinging from PC1 to PC3. I'm not seeing the ICMP redirect and it looks like Router1 is actually routing all of the packets via Router2. I have IP ICMP debugging enabled on Router1 (and Router2) and I'm not seeing any ICMP redirect activity in either console. I'm also not seeing a route to the PC3 network in the routing table on PC1, which I think confirms that the ICMP redirect is not occurring. I'm using only static routing on Routers 1 and 2. Is my understanding of ICMP redirects incorrect, or is there a problem with my lab configuration or does Packet Tracer not support/use ICMP redirects?

• Linux equivalent to Mac OS X's fs_usage

  Is there a Linux equivalent to the Mac OS X command fs_usage? According to the man page it does the following: "report system calls and page faults related to filesystem activity in real-time". I suppose one option would be to use strace and filter the data, however the fs_usage command allows all the processes running on the system to be "traced" at the same time.   I've just completely uninstalled nginx 1.0.6 from my server (Ubuntu 11.04) using apt-get remove nginx rm -rf /etc/nginx/ rm -rf /usr/sbin/nginx rm /usr/share/man/man1/nginx.1.gz apt-get remove nginx* Now I want to install it again, however when starting nginx, I get errors such as: Restarting nginx: nginx: [emerg] open() "/etc/nginx/nginx.conf" failed (2: No such file or directory) Then I placed my own conf file, then I get a new error: Restarting nginx: nginx: [emerg] open() "/etc/nginx/mime.types" failed (2: No such file or directory) in /etc/nginx/nginx.conf:12 Now it seems that apt-get install nginx doesn't install it completely, I cleared the apt-get cache, doesn't seem to help. How can I get a full installation of nginx using apt-get?

As first requirement, generated self signed certificate using OpenSSL and added certificate to wallet. The wallet location is specified in server configuration. • Accidentally Removed Permissions for the XP SP3 Registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT! Workaround Please!

  This is Praveen and I am using Microsoft Windows XP SP3 Build 2600. I had problems with using Microsoft Office 2010. It was keeping on saying, "Please wait while windows configures Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010". After seeing this link: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/outlookcontact/thread/6e9c3f2e-010a-4b74-b433-0c41548ee468?prof=required I thought of giving the Registry Key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, full access permissions for Everyone. I went to the registry, right-clicked on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and clicked on Permissions. I added Everyone and gave Full Control to the ACL and clicked on Apply. Also I checked "Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects." After a long time, it said with an error, cannot replace for few entries. Now, the key, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT has no access to any user. My system is not starting up. Some of my friends asked me to try the Last Known Good Configuration. Even that did not work out. When I tried to open in the Safe Mode, I got only one driver to load and even that didn't load well. Another friend suggested me to put the Setup disk and reinstall the OS. I tried that and after completing the "Installing Device Drivers" part, when it started "Installing Network", the system is getting restarted. Now, the setup is also half way through and even if I open in Safe Mode to try System Restore, it popped up a message saying, "Setup cannot run under Safe Mode. Setup will restart now." and the system is restarting. All my official files and my software, which I developed for Registry Security, resides in my system now. I am unable to access the system and I want it to be working to submit the project, as the deadline is this week. I had no better solutions from elsewhere. Can anyone please help me out with this issue. If it is possible to open the registry editor's stored file from another system and restore the access permissions, I hope it would solve the problem.
