  I am developing a application for benchmarking purposes, for which I require to create large number of http connection in a short time, I created a program in java to test how much threads is java able to create, it turns out in my 2GB single core machine, the limit is variable between 5000 and 6000 with 1 GB of memory given to JVM after which it hits outofmemoryerror with heap limit reached. It is suggested around that erlang will be able to generate much more concurrent processes, I am willing to learn erlang if it is capable of solving the problem , although I am interested in knowing can erlang be able to say generate somewhere around 100000 processes which are essentially http requests waiting for responses, in a matter of few seconds without reaching any limit like memory error etc.,

• Are there any OSGi web service / SOAP clients out there?

  I'm looking for any webservice client that can be run inside an OSGi container and connect to a simple web service using SOAP, doesn't sound so hard does it? Oh, and it has to work under Java 1.5, so the JRE jax-ws wont be present. The problem is I've tried a few solutions now, and although each solution works in standard Java using it from within OSGi doesn't. the springsource JAX-WS bundles seem to have dependency issues the CXF bundles get me as far as calling the service, but then can seem to find the stub methods in the proxy Is there anyone out there who has successfully created an OSGi webservice client?

  I'm using NetBeans 6.8 on Windows 7. I upgraded from WinXP and NetBeans 6.7. Now my existing java web app project is no longer able to import/find the packages I've developed - I receive a 'Package ,blah. does not exist' and yet the packages do exist, worked fine in NetBeans 6.7 and the project still compiles and runs OK. I've tried changing the Java Platform/JDK from 1.6.0_10 back to JDK 1.5.0_22 but I still receive errors package does not exist. All other 'standard' libraries and packages are able to be imported and used OK ... eg Struts, Hibernate

  Is there any way I can save all the things that is happening on my Windows 7 Command Prompt in a file. So that I can see what are the things that got printed on the console. I am running a multithreaded Java Program from the command prompt as- java -server -Xms512m -Xmx512m -XX:PermSize=512m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m -Duser.timezone=GMT-7 –jar BatchMain.jar -taskId V3-PERSONALIZATIONGEO-SAMPLE-TASK -noofthreads 1 -timeout 5 -numberOfIP 1000 -privateIPAddress false And it prints lot of things on to the command prompt, And I want to store all these things that are getting printed on the console into a file.

• Style question: Writing "this." before instance variable and methods: good or bad idea?

  One of my nasty (?) programming habits in C++ and Java is to always precede calls or accesses to members with a this. For example: this.process(this.event). A few of my students commented on this, and I'm wondering if I am teaching bad habits. My rationale is: 1) Makes code more readable — Easier to distinguish fields from local variables. 2) Makes it easier to distinguish standard calls from static calls (especially in Java) 3) Makes me remember that this call (unless the target is final) could end up on a different target, for example in an overriding version in a subclass. Obviously, this has zero impact on the compiled program, it's just readability. So am I making it more or less readable? I have Java script function to do validation so when I click the button I will use onclientclick to call the java function to do the validation and after this one done should call then event click button function from code behind.   How does one create a JAR file programmatically using java.util.jar.JarOutputStream? The JAR file produced by my program looks correct (it extracts fine) but when I try loading a library from it Java complains that it cannot find files which are clearly stored inside it. If I extract the JAR file and use Sun's jar command-line tool to re-compress it the resulting library works fine. In short, something is wrong with my JAR file. Please explain how to create a JAR file programmatically, complete with a manifest file.

  I've read/watched most of your blog/tuts and it seems you are the "beautiful front-ends for Java based back-ends" guru ;) That (sucking up ;) said, I want to build a highly scalable "facebook for business" and after much testing am pretty set on FlashBuilder4 (Flex) with Google App Engine (GAE). What are your thoughts on the need/advisability of also using Spring/Cairngorm/etc frameworks? Frankly I don't have extensive experience coding, however feel the "MVC utopia" universally aspired to becomes convoluting when duplicating between front and back ends as envisioned above (i.e. Flex/ActionScript and GAE/Java respectively).

  Hey all I'm trying to run a java jar file from the command line and within the the execution it gives a path. Withing this path their are spaces and this is causing the issue. ie $f = `java -jar /OCR/ocr.jar /Folder/Sub Folder/filetoocr.pdf /ocr/output.txt`; echo "<pre>$output</pre>"; If you can see the space in between the Sub Folder name causes the issue. By command line it would be (which works) java -jar /OCR/ocr.jar /Folder/Sub\ Folder/filetoocr.pdf /ocr/output.txt any suggestions how I can resolve this ?? Hope you can advise
