  • Why hashCode() returns the same value for a object in all consecutive executions?

    Hi, I am trying some code around object equality in java. As I have read somewhere hashCode() is a number which is generated by applying the hash function. Hash Function can be different for each object but can also be same. At the object level, it returns the memory address of the object. Now, I have sample program, which I run 10 times, consecutively. Every time i run the program I get the same value as hash code. If hashCode() function returns the memory location for the object, how come the java(JVM) store the object at same memory address in the consecutive runs? Can you please give me some insight and your view over this issue?

    Hi, I'm trying to use Scala as part of an existing Java application and now I run into an issue with dependencies injected with a setter method (no DI frameworks in this part of code). How is this handled in a Scala way? In Scala both val and var require to be initialized when declared but I can't do that, since the Java setters inject objects that implement a certain interface and interfaces are abstract and can not be instantiated. class ScalaLogic { var service // How to initialize? def setService (srv: OutputService) = { service = srv } Is there a way to initialize the var service so that I can later assign a dependency into it? It should be lexically scoped to be visible in the whole class.

    Hi folks! I'm profiling application with btrace (https://btrace.dev.java.net) and faced with limitation. I try to get a name of current java.lang.Thread. Normaly you can call getName() but it's forbidden in btrace-scripts (any calls exception BTraceUtils). Is there any idea how to get String from char[]. The original task is check if name of thread contains sub-string and only then log out tracing info (reducing output). thanks, Max.

    I'm trying to write a code for my computer programming class for a project due Monday, and I'm pretty new to Java, but I'm trying to write a program that will first determine if a number the user inputs is even or odd and then determine if the number is prime or not. I'm not sure if I did the algorithm right or not, so if anyone has any corrections on the program to my algorithm or anything else please say so, but my real issue is that the program is refusing to compile.   • Java native methods issues with SUN JVM (jdk1.5.0_14) and multi-core CPU’s

    We are hosting an application on SUN JVM that handles a lot of XML parsing using Jaxb. The application is parsing the XML fine using JRockit 5 but when using the SUN JVM the JVM spends a majority of it’s time on native methods such as java-lang.System.arraycopy, java.lang.String.intern and java.lang.ClassLoader.getPackage. The CPU load is approx. 60% higher when using SUN JVM compared with JRockit. Even stranger is that when we only run the application server using one core (in WMWare) the problem disappears.   • Scala Actors with Java interop to underlying COM libraries

    I'm working on a JVM project which uses ESRI components (COM based, wrapped with JIntegra.) The client has requested the JAR files we produce work on the JVM and be accessible to Java code. I'd like to use Scala but I'm worried about how well the library will play with Scala's actors. Particularly I'm worried about the different mechanisms COM and Java employ to pass objects from one thread to another. Does anyone have any experience with this? Will they play nice? Edit: for clarification I noticed that when performing I/O on the ESRI DB that the CPU utilization is roughly 15%. I'd like to read each row and pass that row over to another actor for parsing. Then I could have several threads reading from the DB at once. The problem is that each row retrieved using ESRI's library is actually a Java wrapped COM object.

According to http://www.prozesse-und-systeme.de/serverClustering.html (german page) there limits with Quartz and Java EE clustering: JDBC must be used as job store for Quartz Only cluster associated Quartz instances are allowed to use this JDBC job store All cluster nodes must be synchronized to the split second All cluster nodes must use the same quartz.properties file I would prefer an easier way for configuration of timer service, instead an not Java EE managed scheduler.

  • Magic behind R.java file

    Hi! Recently I have been having quite some problems with R.java file. Now I have decided to do a backup and delete the file to see what happens. Nothing happened, so I created an empty R.java file and hopped for the best. Now Eclipse seems to figure out that the file was tempered with and even issues a warning: R.java was modified manually! Reverting to generated version! And that's all there is. I tried building it manually but got no results. So, I have two questions: 1. what should I do to force Eclipse to generate the file 2. what is happening here? How is the file created, where is the code that is generating the file? I would appreciate any help. As usual the problem occurred just a few days before the deadline :)

  • Java->Scala Remove Iterator<T>-Element from a JavaConversions-wrapped Iterable

    I have to translate the following code from Java to Scala: for (Iterator<ExceptionQueuedEvent> i = getUnhandledExceptionQueuedEvents().iterator(); i.hasNext();) { ExceptionQueuedEvent event = i.next(); try { //do something } finally { i.remove(); } } I'm using the JavaConversions library to wrap the Iterable. But as i'm not using the original Iterator, i don't know how to remove the current element correctly from the collection the same way as i did in Java: import scala.collection.JavaConversions._ (...) for (val event <- events) { try { //do something } finally { //how can i remove the current event from events? } } Can someone help me? I guess it's easy, but i'm still kinda new to Scala and don't understand what's going on when Scala wraps something of Java.
