• How can I try a new language or framework without installing it?

  With so many languages and frameworks that exist, and with new ones appearing all the time, I don't have the time to download, install, and configure each one to evaluate it. In the past I've run across webapps that allow one to write or paste code into a window, and see the results in realtime in the browser, usually in a tutorial setting. What are your favorite sandbox sites for a given technology? Edit: @fretj provided the link to the excellent Google Code Playground (+1 upvote), but I thought that it was just for experimenting with Google's own apps (Search, Maps, Earth, Language, etc). But it turns out that it contains a few hidden gems: In addition to their apps, you can try out the many Javascript libraries that they host including jQuery, jQuery UI, MooTools, Dojo, and Prototype Scriptaculous. They're all hidden under the Libraries category in the "Pick an API" box. I overlooked the category because I thought it was for an app called Google Libraries. There's also a Javascript category for Javascript itself.

  Hi guys, I have a bit of a problem with my shadowbox, it works fine in FF, but it refuses to work in IE 7 or 8.   I have translated the MailChimp provided MailChimp List Subscribe Form plugin for wordpress. I used poEdit to edit. At wp-config.php I have language set as ar_SA. Which works for the themes I have used in two Bilingual sites. But the mo file had to be renamed to ar.mo I got two problems: While updating the catalog poEdit crashes. But I could save the .po and generated .mo successfully. The translated .mo doesn't appear for the confirmation success or error messages through the Ajax calls which its supposed to. • Wordpress: Not able to retrieve css for new plugin in admin mode

  I'm creating a new plugin which will have it's own css file. The css file resides in the root folder of the plugin. In the plugin section of the admin interface, I have added a few text fields fields. But the CSS is not applied.   Hi all - when I look up the syntax for .data(), it gives examples like this: $('body').data('foo', 52); I am doing AJAX loads and I was wondering if it is possible to store the incoming html using .data() so once the content is loaded, I would not need to do another AJAX load if the same link is clicked again - I would check to see if the .data key is empty.   I’m trying to design a database to use with ASP.net MVC application. Here is the scenario: There are three entities and users can post their comments for each of these different entities. I just wonder how just put one table for Comments and link all other entities to it. Obviously, Comments table needs 3 references (foreign key) to those tables but as you know these foreign keys can’t be null and just one of them can be filled for each row. • JSF - Session Bean restart on logout and login

  Hi, I have a web application with a backing bean which has the context of the current logged in user. It is implemented on JSF. When the user logs out he is forwarded to a login screen (in another JSP page). I would like the current session to be erased when that happens and a new one to be created the next time the user logs in and enters the application. My question is - how do you delete a session? (I guess the new session will be created automatically the next time the user enters the link) This is kinda newb i guess, but I couldn't find a solution for this. Thanks for the Help!

• Onclick starts gif animation and .mp3, how to sync across browsers

  So I am using a text-based jplayer (http://jplayer.org/latest/demo-04/) that I want to sync with a gif animation. Onclick the text link does two things -1. feed the jplayer an mp3 and 2. trigger an animation (via SwapImage). It is important for these two to start at the same time. Right now, this works perfectly in chrome/firefox but in IE and mobile browsers the audio lags considerably. I have tried with the audio preloaded (it is a small 40K mp3) and it makes no difference. I dont think its a bandwidth problem because the problem is the same on repeat clicks. Any pointers on how I can resolve this...

  I just got a new PC running Windows 7 (64-bit). I'd like to install an SVN client (command line only, I don't want TortoiseSVN). I'm not sure which of these to install: http://subversion.apache.org/packages.html#windows does anyone have any opinions on this? I tried going for the ones hosted by Tigris, but the downloaded zip says to read an install file hosted at their site, but the link is broken. Do we simply download, then call svn.exe as needed, no need for a real 'install'?

The code works this way: there are 2 imgs (body and footer) when I click on a link (instead of going to another page) I fade out the 2 imgs and change the src attribute of the 2. When the new imgs are loaded I fade them back in. I'm using SWFaddress to allow user go directly to internal content. Now I'd like to make my content indexed by google and other Search engines, all the text content is inside the imgs, So I've got the text in ALT attribute. My question is: if a dinamically change the imgs ALT attribute using JS, will spiders be able to read it properly? consider that I'm using SWFaddress to create a sitemap.. Thanks

  Hello , Can a crystal report be scaled to fit page? I'm hoping to achieve something similar to Microsoft Excel's Scale To Fit feature wherein a large spreadsheet can be scaled to fit a 8.5"x 11" page. (On MS Excel 2007 goto Page Layout Scale To Fit). Im searching of a way to make a large report fit into a smaller page during print. for example a report designed in Legal(8.5"x 14") page must be able to shrink when print previewed for Letter(8.5"x 11") page. In my crystal report, it should be scaled to fit the page by default. I was thinking maybe theres a Crystal Report Setting or C# code technique that I missed out.   I'm currently involved in a hardware project where I am mapping triangular shaped LED to traditional bitmap images. I'd like to overlay a triangle vector onto an image and get the average pixel data within the bounds of that vector. However, I'm unfamiliar with the math needed to calculate this.   How could I implement a sub item where the item would have a parent to that of the same item. For example, I have a database that holds tasks/todos. Each todo has a title(TEXT), completed(INTEGER [1 if true, 0 if false]), and due date(TEXT) column. I would like to add functionality to have subtasks, where a task could possibly have a parent task. How would I implement this in SQLite for Android? NOT IN SQL! So no foreign keys (triggers are allow, though)! Could I just have a separate table (subtask) and have a foreign key trigger to link subtask(INTEGER parent) to task(INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT _id)? Or should I add a column to my original task table(INTEGER parent)? How could I implement this?

  hi all, I was condering when I use urllib2.urlopen() does it just to header reads or does it actually bring back the entire webpage? IE does the HTML page actually get fetch on the urlopen call or the read() call? handle = urllib2.urlopen(url) html = handle.read() The reason I ask is for this workflow... I have a list of urls (some of them with short url services) I only want to read the webpage if I haven't seen that url before I need to call urlopen() and use geturl() to get the final page that link goes to (after the 302 redirects) so I know if I've crawled it yet or not. I don't want to incur the overhead of having to grab the html if I've already parsed that page. thanks!

  We've identified that full browser caches are the cause of a problem on our extranet. It only affects a small number of our users, but we'd like to alert them to the problem and give them some guidance on how to fix the problem for themselves. We'd like to use a similar system to the one which GMail uses. When it detects that your browser's cache is full, it shows a warning message telling users that their cache is full and that it may cause problems with GMail, along with a link to a Gmail Help page on clearing your browser's cache. I now have a second Google Map within an iframe, and was wondering if you can attach custom markers via the GET params to it? • CSS: Why won't this box get wider?

  I just need a sanity check here... DEMO Basically, I can't figure out how to get the box under the link to get wider as more content is added. It seems fixed to the width of the parent div (or the width of, say, the longest element like the select or a really long word with no spaces), despite being absolutely positioned. I use this trick all the time with ul and li but it doesn't make sense to use that in my situation, and for some crazy reason it just won't work with a div inside a div. I don't want to set a width (which, of course, works) because I don't always know what will be in this box. GRR Thanks :\

• speed up the speed of a sql query to mysql?

  in my mysql database i've got the geonames database, containing all countries, states and cities. i am using this to create a cascading menu so the user could select where he is from: country - state - county - city. but the main problem is that the query will search through all the 7 millions rows in that table each time i want to get the list of children rows, and that is taking a while 10-15 seconds. i wonder how i could speed this up: caching? table views? reorganizing table structure somehow? and most important, how do i do these things? are there good tutorials you could link to me? i appreciate all help and feedback discussing smart ways of handling this issue!
