• SEO Benefits of adding a Tumblr feed to site

  A client of ours has a CMS driven Blog in his hotel site - he would like to use the blog to add depth top his site and add seo benefits relating to the blogs content. The current blog is a basic header / text field and doesn't contain any tagging / meta features. Unfortunately we dont have a .net developer in our team to alter the existing blog and add meta / tagging and there isn't budget to hire one - so I considered using a Tumblr blog - setting it up externally - giving it a blog.hotelname.com address and feeding it into the existing page via tumblrs js - which basically does a document.write into the page - which we can style. I understand from a previous post (Poor CMS blog vs Tumblr embed as a general rule most search engines ignore JS created content - but will the above approach act as an improvement on the existing system for now - as the blog will be setup externally with its own url and also feed into the existing site?   When starting the first project in a new language, you have basically two approaches to learning. Either you do a quick Google search, pull together the most popular frameworks and libraries and work your way from their tutorials towards what you want to achieve (top-down). Or you start with the language basics and the standard library and by and by replace your own simple components with more sophisticated third-party components once you know what you're searching for (bottom-up). Now I'm about to embark on my first serious Javascript project. There's probably as much to know about the language as there is about jQuery, ExtJS and whathaveyou, and I'm trying to decide what to focus on.

• Additional Drivers error installing in Ubuntu 12.04 (wireless internet and software modem)

  I've already search for similar problems but they are so different from mine. these are the drivers http://db.tt/qFZlD5JD I'm having problem with this Additional Drivers once I click the Activate button it will start in downloading and installing but after that it will say Installation failed. Then the "Enable Wireless" will not be available. With the Software Modem issue is the same problem with the Broadcom. These drivers are working on Ubuntu 9 and 11 if I'm not mistaken. Only on 12.04 is not working. One more thing these drivers will enable the Huawei E165g E220. I've already tried other solution for the Huawei to activate but all didn't work. After a restart Enable wireless becomes okay, though. To all Ubuntu experts and masters please I'm begging for help. A million Thank You!.

How would I go about writing such a crawler to search the web for geo tagged data close to a particular location? What would a general road map look like? How do I pick which slice of the web to crawl? Do I use regular expressions to find things that look like longitudes and latitudes? What does a general sketch of that solution look like?

  I want to experiment with the idea of an html based ad that utilizes my company's search API, is anyone here aware of any rules or documentation (general or per network) that explains the guidelines for creating such ads - ie markup, delivery etc - note this is not a question on how to use my company's api, I already know how to do that. For example, I would like to access the api with jsonp, probably via jquery? Can this be done? Would I host the ad and have loaded via an iframe? I just don't know these things. It is all so new to me... I... I'm scared. Actually, I'm not. However, I would like to know. Thanks in advance.

By that, they mean Don't limit your programming thinking only to the concepts that are supported automatically by your language. The best programmers think of what they want to do, and then they assess how to accomplish their objectives with the programming tools at their disposal. (chapter 34.4) Doesn't this lead to using one style of programming in every language out there, regardless of the particular strengths and weaknesses of the language at hand? Or, to put the question in a more answerable format: Would you propose that one should try to encode one's problem as neatly as possible with the particulars of one's language, or should you rather search the most elegant solution overall, even if that means that you need to implement possibly awkward constructs that do not exist natively in one's language?

• Upgrade to 12.04, nothing in dash, no date&time

  I've upgraded from ubuntu netbook remix something to 12.04 lts, and I've got two issues. (Got an Asus eeePc 32bits, Intel 945GME x86/MMX/SSE2 and Intel Atom CPU N270 @ 1.6Ghz x2) Nothing in the dash. Only the "home" tab, other tabs are missing. No search result whatsoever. Missing elements in the system panel, privacy and date&time. No date&time on the right corner either. I've tried to reset unity with the terminal but the process was a whole mess full of errors. It did show date&time in the system panel (not on the top-right corner) while the process was going on in the terminal. But then it was such a mess (no more icons on the right corner amongst other things), and the process wouldn't complete: so I had to reboot the computer and get unity as before, still no date&time and privacy. • Google analytics/adwords account and leaking of private data

  I am frequently asked to log into clients google analytics and adwords accounts. If I forget to log out before visiting other google properties (google search, youtube etc), this leaves tracks of my views/searches etc, exposing my activities to the client. Summary: Client gives me access to their Google Analytics / AdWords account I log into clients Analytics account and do some stuff Then in another tab I perform some related google searches to solve some related issues Issues solved, I then close the Analytics tab I then visit google.com, perform some unrelated searches I then visit YouTube, view some unrelated videos All Web and YouTube searches are recorded in clients google account, thus leaking potentially sensitive data Even assuming that I remember to log out correctly at step 4 (as I do 95% of the time), anything I do at step 3 is exposed to the client. I would be surprised if this is not a very common issue. I'm looking for a technical solution to ensure that this can never happen. Any ideas?

  This question already has an answer here: https:// search results appearing on Google for purely http:// site 2 answers Due to historic reasons, we have things set up so that "www.mydomain.com" redirects to "store.mydomain.com". This has worked perfectly fine until recently, when Google appears to be sending visitors to "https:// www.mydomain.com" which doesn't have an SSL-certificate (and never has). Strangely, its only the first link that goes to "https:// www.mydomain.com", all other links point correctly to "http:// store.mydomain.com". Because there is no certificate on the "www" version, users are getting an error message. How do I make Google revert to pointing the main link at "http:// store.mydomain.com" (or even "http:// www.mydomain.com.") If I remove "https:// www.mydomain.com" from Google webmaster tools, will this also remove the redirected page ("http:// store.mydomain.com)? Thanks.

• What are some good, simple examples for queues?

  I'm teaching CS2 (Java and data structures), and am having some difficulty coming up with good examples to use when teaching queues. The two major applications I use them for are multithreaded message passing (but MT programming is out of scope for the course), and BFS-style algorithms (and I won't be covering graphs until later in the term). I also want to avoid contrived examples. Most things that I think of, if I were actually going to solve them in a single-threaded fashion I would just use a list rather than a queue. I tend to only use queues when processing and discovery are interleaved (e.g. search), or in other special cases like length-limited buffers (e.g. maintaining last N items). To the extent practical, I am trying to teach my students good ways to actually do things in real programs, not just toys to show off a feature. Any suggestions of good, simple algorithms or applications of queues that I can use as examples but that require a minimum of other prior knowledge?

  I've recently read three separate books on algorithms and data structures, tcp/ip socket programming, and programming with memory. The book about memory briefly discussed the topic of serializing data structures for the purposes of storing it to disk, or sending it across a network. I can't help but wonder why the the other two books didn't discuss serialization at all. After an unsuccessful web/book search I'm left wondering where I can find a good book/paper/tutorial on serializing data structures in C? Where or how did you learn it?

• wrong SEO result for staging website

  Hi, We have a domain with URL, lets say: http://www.xxxxstaging.com/abc.php?id=10 which is having a pretty good ranking for some keywords in google. However, this is our staging website and due to some historical reason, it was exposed to public. Now we have a production domain (the one we want to be publicly available), say: http://www.xxxxproduction.com/abc.php?id=10 which have exactly the same html output as xxxxstaging.com our question is, for the exactly same keyword search, it never appear in any page of google. Is it possible for us to "switch" the ranking in google, either tell the robot that they are indeed the same website, or tell google to change it for us? Thank you.

  I have installed Gmail (and other Google as well) webapps into Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit. After that I rebooted the system hoping that webapps will integrate into the system. But after logging back to the system, I see no changes. If I click on email envelope (top bar), I don't see my inbox. Also if I try to search email in Dash via gmail keyword, nothing happens as well. • Tips or techniques to use when you don't know how to code something?

  I have a background as UI designer. And I realized that it is a bit hard for me to write a pieces of logic. Sometimes I get it right, but most of the time, I end up with something hacky (and it usually takes a lot of time). And is not that I don't like programming, in fact, I'm starting to like it as much as design. It's just that sometimes I think that I'm better at dealing with colors an shapes, rather than numbers and logic (but I want to change that). What I usually do is to search the solution on the Internet, copy the example, and insert it into my app (I know this is not a very good practice). I've heard that one tip was to write the logic in common English as comment before writing the actual code. What other tips and techniques I can use?

• Shutdown, Restart, Halt issues, not powering off system

  Before any one says search around, I have, to no avail. I can't seem to get it working after trying every fix out there. So basically, when I turn off my laptop it shuts down fine but the last line is "System will now halt" but power never gets cut, I've tried shutdown -P and shutdown -h same result. Then when I try restart it goes through the same process but hangs on "System will now restart" But I can't figure it out, I am running full Ubuntu with no other Operating Systems. Any tips?

  I registered a couple of domains with the names of categories of products we sell. I then installed wordpress in one of those domains and played around with it for a bit, and left it alone for about a month. There was a link on my regular website to that secondary website and that website was also registered in google's webmaster tools, but that's that. I then searched on google last week for that product category, and to my surprise, that secondary website showed up in the 2nd or 3rd page on google. Now my question is: Do search engines index wordpress websites quicker? I had given up on using wordpress for that website, since it's so simple, but should i use it, would it give me better results?
