  • Why would I want to use server-side JavaScript?

    - by Joseph Silvashy
I'm confused, I regularly read talk of server-side JS, why would I want to use that? It seems like it would execute way slower than pretty much any other language, it also lacks many conventions that more sophisticated languages have. Is it possible to hand entire objects from the client to the server, manipulate them and return them back? Just struggling to understand the concepts of it.

    - by japanitrat
Hi there, I am currently trying to get SoX working through PHP. It all works so far, but I don't get the output back. I've already read that one might route stderr also to the output with "2&1" .. the problem is, this doesn't seem to work on windows machines. any other ideas?

  • When are response headers created in ASP.NET web forms?

    - by Jones
I read somewhere the you can't remove response headers once they've been added. Given that, I'm wondering where in a standard ASP.NET web forms application do response headers get added initially. For example, these: Date Fri, 23 Apr 2010 16:25:56 GMT Server Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-Powered-By ASP.NET Cache-Control private And can I stop it from happening? Do subsequent headers override old headers? Does my question even make sense? Thanks.

  • What's faster Model.get(keys) or Model.get_by_id(ids, parent=None)

    - by WooYek
I'm wondering is there a difference in terms of computing cost for the Model.get(keys) and Model.get_by_id(ids, parent=None) methods? Is there a server side computing advantage of using numeric id's over encoded string keys, or other way around? How big is the difference? PS. Sorry, if it's a dupe. I'm sure I read an article about it, but I cannot find it now.

  • Iterate through directory filenames using JavaScript on ASP.NET C#

    - by Gal V
Hello all, I'm trying to read all filenames from a specified (server- not client) folder, and insert all the filenames into a javascript Array. It should behave like the Directory.GetFiles method in ASP.NET C#. I created a new array, and I just need the loop method (Javascript or jQuery) to iterate in the specific folder, and insert all the filenames into the array. Thanks all helpers!

  • Doctrine: String keys with Array hydration

    - by BenV
According to their documentation, you should use Array hydration rather than record hydration when retrieving data for read-only purposes. However, this means I have to access the attributes of the retrieved object using arrays and string keys: $user['Phonenumbers'][0]['number'] instead of the OO style: $user->PhoneNumbers[0]->number Now I'm kinda new to PHP, but in other languages I've worked with the 2nd notation would be preferable because typos would be caught at compile time while typos in string literals would not be noticed until runtime. Does this apply to PHP/Doctrine?

  • CODE1 Spoj - cannot solve it

    - by VaioIsBorn
I am trying to solve the problem Secret Code and it's obviously math problem. The full problem For those who are lazy to go and read, it's like this: a0,a1,a2,...,an - sequence of N numbers B - some number known to us X = a0 + a1*B + a2*(B^2) + a3*(B^3) + ... + an*(B^n) So if you are given B and X, you should find a0,a1,..an. I don't know how or where to start, because not even N is known, just X and B. Can you help me ?

  • Using Office 2007 extension (i.e. docx) for skin based On-Screen keyboard.

    - by Peymankh
Hi guys, I'm creating a On-Screen keyboard for my application, and it supports skins as well. Here's what I'm doing with the skins, I have a folder which contains some images and a xml file which maps the images to the keyboard, I want to be able to have the folder as a zip file like in Office 2007 (.docx) and iPhone firmwares (.ipsw), I know I can simply zip the folder and change the extension, what I need to know is how to read the files in the code. Thanks in advance.

  • How can I show characters for an ASP.net password textbox control after assigning its .Text property

    - by Rob Segal
I am assigning a value to .Text of a textbox retrieved from a database in Page_Load() but no characters are shown in the textbox after doing this. The value is indeed there when I try to read from it after the assignment. I would like to present some characters to the user even though they are the "dotted" password characters so they know a password has been entered here. Is it possible to do this?

  • What is this particular type of revelation called?

    - by Lars Haugseth
After struggling with a particular problem or bug in some part of my code for hours, without getting anywhere, I often get a sudden revelation as soon as I try to explain the problem to one of my coworkers, or while formulating it in writing for posting to some forum. Does this kind of experience have a name? Where can I read more about it and how to train it? Do any of you use this consciously in your day-to-day work?

  • PHP: Simple, Validate if string is hex?

    - by oni-kun
I have no clue how to validate this string. I am simply supplying an IV for an encryption, but can find no "is_hex()" or similar function, I can't wrap my head around it! I read on a comment in the php documentation (user contrib. notes) this: if($iv == dechex(hexdec($iv))) { //True } else { //False } But that doesn't seem to work at all.. It only says false. If it helps my input of my IV would be this: 92bff433cc639a6d

  • Linq to Sql get SqlCommand when stored procedure execution fails

    - by Tim Mahy
Hi all, currently I'm assigning a TextWriter to the Log property of my Linq to Sql data context (per request instancing) and write this to my logging when an exception is thrown while executing a stored procedure (is strongly typed mapped in the context, so not executing a custom command) however when using ADO.NET we normally inspect the SqlCommand upon unhandled exception to read out the parameters and log them is it possible to access the SqlCommand that was used for executing a Stored Procedure in L2S so we can reuse that existing logging component? This would be far nicer than the current Log TextWriter solution.... greetings, Tim
