• NSTextView's adjustScroll method

  I'm trying to implement typewriter scrolling in my Cocoa text editor, keeping the insertion point centered vertically in its scrollview. Toward this end, I have subclassed NSClipView to provide a scrollToPointWithoutConstraint method, which scrolls the document to a specified point without calling constrainScrollPoint. This is necessary because for short documents the insertion point can't be centered unless we scroll beyond the document's bounds. This seems reasonably straightforward so far and does what I want. The problem comes in when I try to scroll using the scroll bars. If I'm scrolled to the end of the document, such that part of the scroll view contains an area outside the document's bounds, trying to scroll up by a small increment causes the scroll view to jump, immediately clamping to the document's actual bounds. I gather that I might need to subclass NSTextView and override the adjustScroll method; this is where my actual question begins. The proposedVisibleRect that is passed to adjustScroll already has its dimensions adjusted so that they lie within the document's actual bounds. Is there a way that I can change the value of proposedVisibleRect before adjustScroll is called? Alternatively, am I going about this entirely wrong? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated at this point.

  I'm trying to serialize an object containing a number of data fields...where one of the fields is of datatype NSData which won't serialize. I've followed instructions at http://www.isolated.se but my code (see below) results in the error "[NSConcreteData data]: unrecognized selector sent to instance...". How do I serialize my object? • DOS batch file to enter commands in proprietary java app and receive feedback?

  Hello, I'm working on a project in which I'd like to be able to turn lights on and off in the Duke Smart Home via a high frequency chirp. The lighting system is called Clipsal Square-D and the program that gives a user access to the lighting controls is called CGate. I was planning on doing some signal processing in Matlab, then create a batch file from Matlab to interact with Cgate. Cgate is a proprietary Java app that, if run from a DOS command line, opens up another window that looks like the command prompt. I have a batch file that can check to see if Cgate is running and if not, open it. But what I can't figure out how to do is actually run commands in the Cgate program from the batch file and likewise, take the response from Cgate. An example of such a command is "noop," which should return "200 OK." Any help would be much appreciated! • Can Sql Server 2005 Pivot table have nText passed into it?

  Right bit of a simple question can I input nText into a pivot table? (SQL Server 2005) What I have is a table which records the answers to a questionnaire consisting of the following elements for example: UserID QuestionNumber Answer Mic 1 Yes Mic 2 No Mic 3 Yes Ste 1 Yes Ste 2 No Ste 3 Yes Bob 1 Yes Bob 2 No Bob 3 Yes With the answers being held in nText. Anyway what id like a Pivot table to do is: UserID 1 2 3 Mic Yes No Yes Ste Yes No Yes Bob Yes No Yes I have some test code, that creates a pivot table but at the moment it just shows the number of answers in each column (code can be found below). So I just want to know is it possible to add nText to a pivot table? As when I've tried it brings up errors and someone stated on another site that it wasn't possible, so I would like to check if this is the case or not. Just for further reference I don't have the opportunity to change the database as it's linked to other systems that I haven't created or have access too. • has_many :through formtastic multi-select field

  I'm trying to set up a many to many relationship using the has_many :through method and then use a multi-select field to setup the relationships. I'm following this tutorial: http://asciicasts.com/episodes/185-formtastic-part-2 However for some reason the form displays a strange hex number and it changes each page refresh, I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong. I want to get only the reply message not the original message. I have to write regular expression for gmail & hotmail. • Efficient alternative to merge() when building dataframe from json files with R?

The fromJSON() function reads in the data as lists of lists. Each element of the list is a person, which then contains a list of the attributes for that person. For example: [[1]] person_id name gender hair_color [[2]] person_id name location gender height [[...]] structure(list(person_id = "Amy123", name = "Amy", gender = "F", hair_color = "brown"), .Names = c("person_id", "name", "gender", "hair_color")) structure(list(person_id = "matt53", name = "Matt", location = structure(c(47231, "IN"), .Names = c("zip_code", "state")), gender = "M", height = 172), .Names = c("person_id", "name", "location", "gender", "height")) The end result of the code above is matrix where the columns are every person-attribute that appears in the structure above, and the rows are the relevant values for each person. As you can see though, some data is missing for some of the people, so I need to ensure those show up as NA and make sure things end up in the right columns. Further, location itself is a vector with two components: state and zip_code, meaning it needs to be flattened to location.state and location.zip_code before it can be merged with another person record; this is what I use unlist() for. I then keep the running master table in people_data. The above code works, but do you know of a more efficient way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? It appears the merge() is slowing this to a crawl... I have hundreds of files with hundreds of people in each file. Thanks! Bryan

• Sorting by dates (including nil) with NSFetchedResultsController

  In my NSFetchedResultsController, I set a sortDescriptor that sorts based on the date property of my managed objects. The problem that I have encountered (along with several others according to Google) is that nil values are sorted at the earliest end rather than the latest end of the date spectrum. I want my list to be sorted earliest, earlier, now, later, latest, nil. As I understand it, this sorting is done at the database level in SQLite and so I cannot construct my own compare: method to provide the sorting I want. I don't want to manually sort in memory, because I would have to give up all of the benefits of NSFetchedResultsController. I can't do compound sorting because the sectionNameKeyPaths are tightly coupled to the date ranges. I could write a routine that redirects indexPath requests so that section 0 in the results controller gets mapped to the last section of the tableView, but I fear that would add a lot of overhead, severely increase the complexity of my code, and be very, very error-prone. The latest idea that I am considering is to map all nil dates to the furthest future date that NSDate supports. My left brain hates this idea, as it feels more like a hack. It will also take a bit of work to implement, since checking for nil factors heavily into how I process dates in my app. I don't want to go this route without first checking for better options. Can anyone think of a better way to get around this problem?

• iphone menu navigation with buttons help requested

  Hi, I'm trying to program an iphone app that will have several different (sub)apps. Ideally, I want to know how to make the main menu for this app look and behave like the iphone's own app menu, but I can't figure it out. If any one knows a package or library that does this, please let me know. Plan B is to mock one using UIButtons, and here is where I'm having problems. Basically, when I press a button that should push a new view, it calls the push method, but I still see the top view. in the app delegate, I have something like: AppViewController *viewController; App1ViewController *app1ViewController; UINavigationController *navController; and in didFinishLaunching method, something like: viewController = [ [ AppViewController alloc ] initWithAppDelegate: self ]; app1ViewController = [ [App1ViewController alloc ] initWithAppDelegate: self ]; navController = [ [ UINavigationController alloc ] initWithRootViewController:viewController]; [window addSubview:viewController.view]; and 2 methods -(void)app1{[ navController pushViewController: app1ViewController animated:YES ];} -(void)back{[ navController popViewControllerAnimated:YES ];} then I have 2 viewcontrollers in AppViewController.h @interface AppViewController : UIViewController { UINavigationController *navController; UIButton *appbtn1, *appbtn2, *appbtn3, *appbtn4; } -(id)initWithAppDelegate:(id)appDelegate; @end @interface App1ViewController : UIViewController { UITextView *textView; UINavigationController *navController; } -(id)initWithAppDelegate:(id)appDelegate; @end and define a loadView for each viewcontroller. However, when I press the app1 button and the app1 method gets called, it says the view hasa been pushed, but my view remains the buttons view, i.e. the root view. If I press the button again, it tells me I can't repush the app1view, the one I can't see. Any ideas? I can post the full code if that helps. Thank you for your time.

So, now I'm wondering ... where am I going wrong with this ? Why is matlab not giving the expected results ? (this is probably something terribly simple, but it's giving me headaches)

  Hello Everyone. I am new to delphi. I was trying to add C Object files in my Delphi project and link them directly since Delphi Supports C Object Linking. I got it working when i link a single Object file. But when i try to link multiple object files, i am getting error 'Unsatisfied forward or external declaration'. I have tried this in Delphi 2007 as well as XE.So what am i doing wrong here?   I am trying to call a stored procedure over a database link. However, when I run this over a database link, (with the required modification to the stored proc name, etc) I get an oracle error: ORA-24338: statement handle not executed. • Sorting shell items like windows explorer

  Hi, I am making a bread crumb bar in Delphi and having some problems regarding sorting the dropdown of the bread crumbs. Strangely enough, even Vista is not consequent when showing these items. I have tried many ways to figure out what is system folders, what is zip files and what is normal folders. It seems like an easy task but so far I have not found any good way of doing it. One way is to use TypeDisplayName from TSHFileinfo but these are localized names so I can not be sure they will be in correct order in every language. SetupVisibility() wants to show textbox and label, but then I get the error: Microsoft JScript - runtime error: Cannot update control with ID: ctl00_CPH1_lblTest. The control does not exist. Where is the problem?

• Embedded SQL in OO languages like Java

  One of the things that annoys me working with SQL in OO languages is having to define SQL statements in strings. When I used to work on IBM mainframes, the languages used an SQL preprocessor to parse SQL statements out of the native code, so the statements could be written in cleartext SQL without the obfuscation of strings, for instance in Cobol there is a EXEC SQL .... END-EXEC syntax construct that allows pure SQL statements to be embedded in the Cobol code. <pure cobol code, including assignment of value to local variable HOSTVARIABLE> EXEC SQL SELECT COL_A, COL_B, COL_C INTO :COLA, :COLB, :COLC FROM TAB_A WHERE COL_D = :HOSTVARIABLE END_EXEC <more cobol code, variables COLA, COLB, COLC have been set> ...this makes the SQL statement really easy to read & check for errors. Between the EXEC SQL .... END-EXEC tokens there are no constraints on indentation, linebreaking etc., so you can format the SQL statement according to taste. Note that this example is for a single-row select, when a multiple-row resultset is expected, the coding is different (but still v. easy to read). So, taking Java as an example What made the "old COBOL" approach undesirable ? Not only SQL, but system calls could be made much more readable with that approach. Let's call it the embedded foreign language preprocessor approach. Would an embedded foreign language preprocessor for SQL be useful to implement ? Would you see a benefit in being able to write native SQL statements inside java code ? Edit I'm really asking if you think SQL in OO languages is a throwback, and if not then what could be done to make it better.

  Hi all, This will not be a "programming" question but more technology / platform related question. I'm trying to figure out whether Python can be a suitable Java alternative for enterprise / web applications. Which are the ideal cases where you would prefer to use Python instead of Java? How would a typical Python web application (databases/sessions/concurrency) perform as compared to a typical Java application? How do specific Python frameworks square up against Java based frameworks (Spring, SEAM, Grails etc.)? For businesses, switching from the Java infrastructure to a Python infrastructure .. is it too hard/expensive/resource intensive/not viable? Also shed some light on the business case for providing a Python + Google AppEngine based solution to the end customer. Will it be cost effective in an typical scenario? Sorry if I am asking too wide a question, I would have liked to keep it specific, but I need your help to evaluate Python as a whole from the perspectives of the programmers, service providing company and end business customer. For an SME, a Python/GoogleAppEngine based technology stack is a clear scalable and affordable platform. But what about a large MNC that already has a lot invested in Java. Thank you so much. • How to read a database record with a DataReader and add it to a DataTable

  Hello I have some data in a Oracle database table(around 4 million records) which i want to transform and store in a MSSQL database using ADO.NET. So far i used (for much smaller tables) a DataAdapter to read the data out of the Oracle DataBase and add the DataTable to a DataSet for further processing. When i tried this with my huge table, there was a outofmemory exception thrown. ( I assume this is because i cannot load the whole table into my memory) :) Now i am looking for a good way to perform this extract/transfer/load, without storing the whole table in the memory. I would like to use a DataReader and read the single dataRecords in a DataTable. If there are about 100k rows in it, I would like to process them and clear the DataTable afterwards(to have free memory again). • What fails in this row level trigger?

The trigger compiles and all and even worked one time, but it was the only one. I've inserted or updated my prec_total_if in item_fornecimento in sqldeveloper, but the order's (fornecimento) total still not change :(. If it's important, my f.total_enc_fornec it's null until it's replaced by a value inserted by this triggers; it prints the output, but it seems to fail updating.

• How to Display a Bmp in a RTF control in VB.net

  I Started with this C# Question I'm trying to Display a bmp image inside a rtf Box for a Bot program I'm making. This function is supposed to convert a bitmap to rtf code whis is inserted to another rtf formatter srtring with additional text. Kind of like Smilies being used in a chat program. For some reason the output of this function gets rejected by the RTF Box and Vanishes completly. But that's not correct, there is still the instance of user inside the array that points to name ! The retain count of a variable should only decrease when the retain count of a referring variable is 0, that is, when it is dealloced, not released.

• Drop Down Box and other stuff in ASP.NET with VB.NET (VS 2008)

  Hi all, I am trying to polish up a program a program that I have converted from a Windows Form in to an ASP.NET Web Application. I have several questions: 1.) I have a drop down box where users can select their variables, but users can also enter their variables manually into various text fields. What I want is for the drop down box to show a string like "Choose Variables" when ever the user enters their variables manually. I want this to happen without having to reload the page. 2.) In the Windows Form version of this application I had a RichTextBox that populated with data (line by line) after a calculation was made. I used "AppendText" in my Windows Form, but that is not available in ASP.NET, and neither is the RichTextBox. I am open to suggestions here, I tried to use just a text box but that isn't working right. 3.) In my Windows Form application I was using "KeyPress" events to prevent incorrect characters from being entered into the text fields. My code for these events looked similar to this: Private Sub TextBox_KeyPress(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles TextBox.KeyPress If (e.KeyChar < "0" OrElse e.KeyChar > "9") AndAlso e.KeyChar <> ControlChars.Back AndAlso e.KeyChar <> "." Then e.Handled = True End If End Sub How can I make this work again... also without reloading the page. 4.) This is not a major issue, but I would like all of the text to be selected when the cursor enters a field. • Textured Primitives in XNA with a first person camera

  So I have a XNA application set up. The camera is in first person mode, and the user can move around using the keyboard and reposition the camera target with the mouse. I have been able to load 3D models fine, and they appear on screen no problem. Whenever I try to draw any primitive (textured or not), it does not show up anywhere on the screen, no matter how I position the camera. • How to create a view to manage associations between HABTM models? (Rails)

  Hello, I am using Ruby on Rails and need to create a view that allows the creation of records through a HABTM relationship to another model. Specifically, I have the following models: Customer and ServiceOverride, and a join table customers_serviceoverrides. Using the customer view for create/update, I need to be able to create, update and delete ServiceOverrides and manage the attributes of the associated model(s) from the same view. Visually I'd prefer to have something like a plus/minus sign to add/delete service overrides, and each serviceoverride record has two string entities which need to be displayed and editable as well. However, if I could just get the code (a kind of nested form, I'm assuming?) working, I could work out the UI aspects. The models are pretty simple: class ServiceOverride < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :customers end class Customer < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :serviceoverrides end The closest thing I've found explaining this online is on this blog but it doesn't really address what I'm trying to do (both manage the linkages to the other model, and edit attributes of that model.
