ITextSharp HTML to PDF?

I posted a question here a few weeks ago asking about an alternative to creating .fdf files to fill in pdf documents and someone here pointed me to ITextSharp. It's working like a champ so thanks for that. I'd now like to know if ITextSharp has the capability of converting HTML to PDF. Everything I will convert will just be plain text but unfortunately there is very little to no documentation on ITextSharp so I can't determine if that will be a viable solution for me. If it can't do it, can someone point me to some good, free .net libraries that can take a simple plain text HTML document and convert it to a pdf? tia.

I have a large piece of text in which there is something simular to this: !#_KT_#!COMMANDHERE!#_KT_#! I want, in VB.Net, to get the 'COMMANDHERE' part of the string, how would I go about doing this? jquery animation callback - how to pass parameters to callback

I´m building a jquery animation from a multidimensional array, and in the callback of each iteration i would like to use an element of the array. Smarter, Faster, Cheaper: The Insurance Industry’s Dream

On June 3rd, I saw the Gaylord Resort Centre in Washington D.C. become the hub of C level executives and managers of insurance carriers for the IASA 2013 Conference. Insurance Accounting/Regulation and Technology sessions took the focus, but there were plenty of tertiary sessions for career development, which complemented the overall strong networking side of the conference. As an exhibitor, Oracle, along with several hundred other product providers, welcomed the opportunity to display and demonstrate our solutions and we were encouraged by hustle and bustle of the exhibition floor. The IASA organizers had pre-arranged fast track tours whereby interested conference delegates could sign up for a series of like-themed presentations from Vendors, giving them a level of 'Speed Dating' introductions to possible solutions and services. Oracle participated in a number of these, which were very well subscribed. Clearly, the conference had a strong business focus; however, attendees saw technology as a key enabler to get their processes done smarter, faster and cheaper. As we navigated through the exhibition, it became clear from the inquiries that came to us that insurance carriers are gravitating to a number of focus areas: Navigating the maze of upcoming regulatory reporting changes. For US carriers with European holdings, Solvency II carries a myriad of rules and reporting requirements. Alignment across the globe of the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) processes brings to the fore the National Insurance of Insurance commissioners' (NAIC) recent guidance manual publication. Doing more with less and to certainly expect more from technology for less dollars. The overall cost of IT, in particular hardware, has dropped in real terms (though the appetite for more has risen: more CPU, more RAM, more storage), but software has seen less change. Clearly, customers expect either to pay less or get a lot more from their software solutions for the same buck. Doing things smarter – A recognition that with the advance of technology to stand still no longer means you are technically going backwards. Technology and, in particular technology interactions with human business processes, has undergone incredible change over the past 5 years. Consumer usage (iPhones, etc.) has been at the forefront, but now at the Enterprise level ever more effective technology exploitation is beginning to take place. That data and, in particular gleaning knowledge from data, is refining and improving business processes. Organizations are now consuming more data than ever before, and it is set to grow exponentially for some time to come. Amassing large volumes of data is one thing, but effectively analyzing that data is another. It is the results of such analysis that leads to improvements both in terms of insurance product offerings and the processes to support them. Regulatory Compliance, damned if you do and damned if you don’t! Clearly, around the globe at lot is changing from a regulatory perspective and it is evident that in terms of regulatory requirements, whilst there is a greater convergence across jurisdictions bringing uniformity, there is also a lot of work to be done in the next 5 years. Just like the big data, hidden behind effective regulatory compliance there often lies golden nuggets that can give competitive advantages. From Oracle's perspective, our Rating Engine, Billing, Document Management and Insurance Analytics solutions on display served to strike up good conversations and, as is always the case at conferences, it was a great opportunity to meet and speak with existing Oracle customers that we might not have otherwise caught up with for a while. Fortunately, I was able to catch up on a few sessions at the close of the Exhibition. The speaker quality was high and the audience asked challenging, but pertinent, questions. During Dr. Jackie Freiberg’s keynote “Bye Bye Business as Usual,” the author discussed 8 strategies to help leaders create a culture where teams consistently deliver innovative ideas by disrupting the status quo. The very first strategy: Get wired for innovation. Freiberg admitted that folks in the insurance and financial services industry understand and know innovation is important, but oftentimes they are slow adopters. Today, technology and innovation go hand in hand. In speaking to delegates during and after the conference, a high degree of satisfaction could be measured from their positive comments of speaker sessions and the exhibitors. .NET vs Windows 8

So, day 1 of DevWeek. Lots and lots of Windows 8 and WinRT, as you would expect. The keynote had some actual content in it, fleshed out some of the details of how your apps linked into the Metro infrastructure, and confirmed that there would indeed be an enterprise version of the app store available for Metro apps.) However, that's, not what I want to focus this post on. What I do want to focus on is this: Windows 8 does not make .NET developers obsolete. Phew! .NET in the New Ecosystem In all the hype around Windows 8 the past few months, a lot of developers have got the impression that .NET has been sidelined in Windows 8; C++ and COM is back in vogue, and HTML5 + JavaScript is the New Way of writing applications. You know .NET? It's yesterday's tech. Enter the 21st Century and write <div>! However, after speaking to people at the conference, and after a couple of talks by Dave Wheeler on the innards of WinRT and how .NET interacts with it, my views on the coming operating system have changed somewhat. To summarize what I've picked up, in no particular order (none of this is official, just my sense of what's been said by various people): Metro apps do not replace desktop apps. That is, Windows 8 fully supports .NET desktop applications written for every other previous version of Windows, and will continue to do so in the forseeable future. There are some apps that simply do not fit into Metro. They do not fit into the touch-based paradigm, and never will. Traditional desktop support is not going away anytime soon. The reason Silverlight has been hidden in all the Metro hype is that Metro is essentially based on Silverlight design principles. Silverlight developers will have a much easier time writing Metro apps than desktop developers, as they would already be used to all the principles of sandboxing and separation introduced with Silverlight. It's desktop developers who are going to have to adapt how they work. .NET + XAML is equal to HTML5 + JS in importance. Although the underlying WinRT system is built on C++ & COM, most application development will be done either using .NET or HTML5. Both systems have their own wrapper around the underlying WinRT infrastructure, hiding the implementation details. The CLR is unchanged; it's still the .NET 4 CLR, running IL in .NET assemblies. The thing that changes between desktop and Metro is the class libraries, which have more in common with the Silverlight libraries than the desktop libraries. In Metro, although all the types look and behave the same to callers, some of the core BCL types are now wrappers around their WinRT equivalents. These wrappers are then enhanced using standard .NET types and code to produce the Metro .NET class libraries. You can't simply port a desktop app into Metro. The underlying file IO, network, timing and database access is either completely different or simply missing. Similarly, although the UI is programmed using XAML, the behaviour of the Metro XAML is different to WPF or Silverlight XAML. Furthermore, the new design principles and touch-based interface for Metro applications demand a completely new UI. You will be able to re-use sections of your app encapsulating pure program logic, but everything else will need to be written from scratch. Microsoft has taken the opportunity to remove a whole raft of types and methods from the Metro framework that are obsolete (non-generic collections) or break the sandbox (synchronous APIs); if you use these, you will have to rewrite to use the alternatives, if they exist at all, to move your apps to Metro. If you want to write public WinRT components in .NET, there are some quite strict rules you have to adhere to. But the compilers know about these rules; you can write them in C# or VB, and the compilers will tell you when you do something that isn't allowed and deal with the translation to WinRT metadata rather than .NET assemblies. It is possible to write a class library that can be used in Metro and desktop applications. However, you need to be very careful not to use types that are available in one but not the other. One can imagine developers writing their own abstraction around file IO and UIs (MVVM anyone?) that can be implemented differently in Metro and desktop, but look the same within your shared library. So, if you're a .NET developer, you have a lot less to worry about. .NET is a viable platform on Metro, and traditional desktop apps are not going away. You don't have to learn HTML5 and JavaScript if you don't want to. Hurray!

Hello all, I've built a small activex control using c#. I've got a function that returns an array of bytes. From some reason when I try to consue the returned array in js I receive an undefined value. Why is this happenning? Is there anyway to solve it? Minimal way to render Wiki Syntax (for example MoinMoin Wiki)

I enjoy using to Wikis to document all kind of stuff (recently I used MoinMoin, so I am used to that syntax). No I am looking for a more light weight solution, for documents were setting up a moinmoin server is to much hassle. What is the "easiest" way to render a .txt file in Wiki syntax. (for example by displaying it, or converting it to HTML). it should work on Linux, but the more platform in-dependent, the better. Maybe there is even a Javascript based solution?

jquery hover not working properly other than IE6

Hi All, We developed navigation bar using jQuery 1.4.2. Functionality is to show submneus for different menu items when user hovers on it. It is working perfectly in IE6 but we see some weird problems in other browsers. In Firefox, when the page gets loaded, it works fine but when we hit f5, the submenu wont appear on hover. To get submenu we need to click on any other menu item. In Chrome, its the same to add on, some time even we click on any menu item, and hover submenu wont show up. In Safari, nothing shows up most of the times, but on clicking 5-6 menu items, submenu is shown.When we see loading text in safari it shows the submenu. but on every click the loading text wont appear.. We are very much confused..is it the browser behavior/code/jquery?? Management and Monitoring Tools for Windows Azure

With such a large platform, Windows Azure has a lot of moving parts. We’ve done our best to keep the interface as simple as possible, while giving you the most control and visibility we can. However, as with most Microsoft products, there are multiple ways to do something – and I’ve always found that to be a good strength. Depending on the situation, I might want a graphical interface, a command-line interface, or just an API so I can incorporate the management into my own tools, or have third-party companies write other tools. While by no means exhaustive, I thought I might put together a quick list of a few tools you can use to manage and monitor Windows Azure components, from our IaaS, SaaS and PaaS offerings. Some of the products focus on one area more than another, but all are available today. I’ll try and maintain this list to keep it current, but make sure you check the date of this post’s update – if it’s more than six months old, it’s most likely out of date. Things move fast in the cloud. The Windows Azure Management Portal The primary tool for managing Windows Azure is our portal – most everything you need is there, from creating new services to querying a database. There are two versions as of this writing – a Silverlight client version, and a newer HTML5 version. The latter is being updated constantly to be in parity with the Silverlight client. There’s a balance in this portal between simplicity and power – we’re following the “less is more” approach, with increasing levels of detail as you work through the portal rather than overwhelming you with a single, long “more is more” page. You can find the Portal here: http://windowsazure.com (then click “Log In” and then “Portal”) Windows Azure Management API You can also use programming tools to either write your own interface, or simply provide management functions directly within your solution. You have two options – you can use the more universal REST API’s, which area bit more complex but work with any system that can write to them, or the more approachable .NET API calls in code. jQuery trigger uploadify click event not working in firefox FF

I want to select an option on a drop down box and for this to trigger the uploadify available to jQuery which lets you upload a file. My solution works in IE7 but not FF. When you change the drop down it should show a window to browse for a file to upload. In FF nothing appears. In IE everything works. Unable to upload a file.

User 'X' is the site-collection owner. He tries to upload a 500kb file into a document library, got the error "The server has aborted your upload. The files selected may exceed the server's upload size limit. If you are transfering a large group of files, try uploading fewer at a time." however web-application owners are able to upload the file. what would be the issue, any thoughts? Upload size limit for a file – 5 MB Site Quota template set – 50 MB Used Site Quota – 10 MB file format: pdf file size : 500kb file is on : desktop special characters : no Os : xP IE : 6.0 .Net : 3.5 any thoughts?

Parse text from a screen grab

Hey guys Not sure the best way to explain this but i'll give it a shot. I'm trying to find a way to parse text/numbers from a screen grab in either C# or Java - whichever provides the easiest way, but preferably java. An example would be as follows. You have a website/document/application with a block of text. You can take a screenshot of the specific area which contains this text. Once the screenshot has been taken you can extract a string from it containing the relevant characters. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks

Titanium webview bug or "feature"? Numbers converted to telephone links

I can't stop Titanium's webview from converting numbers to telephone links. For instance, let's say I programmatically set the innerHTML of a div called test to 96840664702 and then write javascript... alert(document.getElementById('test').innerHTML In Mobile Safari on the iPhone, Firefox, etc., the alert will read "96840664702". If I point Titanium's webview to the same page, the alert will read: <a href="tel:96840664702" x-apple-data=detectors="true">96840664702</a> How can I globally disable the data-detectors? I tried a couple meta-tags... <meta name=”format-detection” content=”telephone=no” > <meta name="x-" http-equiv="x-rim-auto-match" forua="true" content="none"/> ... but they didn't work. I couldn't find a reference for a meta tag that specifically mentioned Apple's detectors. Again, it's only a problem in Titanium's webview. It works everywhere else.

A better way of converting Codepage-1251 in RTF to Unicode

I am trying to parse RTF (via MSEDIT) in various languages, all in Delphi 2010, in order to produce HTML in unicode. Taking Russian/Cyrillic as my starting point I find that the overall document codepage is 1252 (Western) but the Russian parts of the text are identified by the charset of the font (RUSSIAN_CHARSET 204). So far I am: 1) Use AnsiString (or RawByteString) when parsing the RTF 2) Determine the CodePage by a lookup from the font charset (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc194829.aspx) 3) Translating using a lookup table in my code: (This table generated from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/goglobal/cc305144.aspx) - I'm going to need one table per supported codepage! There MUST be a better way than this? Preferably something supplied by the OS and so less brittle than tables of constants.

I am currently trying to write an addin for PowerPoint that whenever any PowerPoint document is opened and then run in show mode that the feature to record narration audio and slide timings is automatically activated. However I cannot seem to find that option in the PowerPoint interop object The manual in application way to use this feature in Powerpoint 2007 is under the "Slide Show" tab of the ribbon called "Record Narration". I have found under that I can set under Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint.SlideShowSettings.AdvancedSettings to RehearseNewTimings but this does not record narration audio. Does anyone know if this is even possible? Or if I am completely on the wrong track here. Thanks in advance for any repsonse

Hi, I'm gonna add authorization, user and groups management to my application, basically... you will can define a set of permissions for a concrete user or group. For example, you could specify whom can use a concrete resource. So I want to ensure that my assumptions about ACLs are right: A basic rule could be "Grant", "Deny", "NoSet". User permissions have priority over group permissions. "Deny" statement has priority over "Grant". For example, user "u1" belongs to group "A", the resource "X" has this ACL "u1:grant,A:deny" user "u1" should be able to access the resource, shouldn't it? If a resource has no ACL set... does it means that anyone can access it? should I provide a default ACL? Any document about ACL in a general way? Cheers.

I have been searching for a way to fix this problem for a while now. It seems something could be wrong on the javascript, or maybe it has something to do with the positioning. This page http://www.medspilates.cl/ works fine on FF, on Chrome, on Safari and on IE8, but on ie7 it doesnt, the body gets displaced to the right and the main content disappears, it's also happening on ie6 (it didnt but now it does). Drag/Drop image url in IE

I have a requirement in our web app. to allow users to drag an image from an external site and drop it in a text editor they have open in our app. This is, as you'd expect, to let them embed the image in the document (its a rich text editor). In IE 8 this functionality appears to be broken. If I drag/drop, IE uses a relative URL for the 'src' tag on the image - which means I cannot then download the file and store it since I dont know the full address (eg: '../../imgs/myImage.png') Safari and Firefox do not do this; they provides the fully-qualified address (eg: www.mysite.com/imgs/myImage.png). Is this a bug in IE or just WebKit/Mozilla going the extra mile?

Data refresh and drill down problem with SSAS cube and excel services

I have a SSAS cube which I am using in an excel document, prepare a report which has drill-down etc and i am publishing it to a sharepoint site. It gets published alright but when I try to drill down it throws an error "Data Refresh failed" etc.The data source and the sharpoint site are on the same machine(running windows server 2008) and we have windows authentication running. From what I have been able to find on the internet there is a problem with passing the windows authentication credentials to the database etc.But I have not been able to find the exact way to sort out these problem. What is the solution for this????
