Is it possible that the iPhone can somehow send data or some control command to the computer's com ports via USB cable? Maybe use inline assembly language for instance? Thanks!

It is with reference to the previous post above.Is there something wrong with the foreach loop(The result is correct but it is displaying the series of Add,Add,Add,Add,Add,Add...,which is the last record of the getallfeatures.
i do a localized application using silverligth 4.
after changing my culture thread i do
LayoutRoot.Children.Clear();
MainPage MyPage = new MainPage();
LayoutRoot.Children.Add(MyPage);
but i get an error "value does not fall within the expected range"
how can i reload the layout to apply the language changing
I've got several pre-commit hooks that I would like to run before each commit. Right now, they are all just shell-scripts, so I know i could just concatenate them to get them all to run. In the future though, additional scripts may be written in Perl, PHP, or some other language as well.
How can I run several different scripts as part of a single pre-commit hook?
"8,5,,1,4,7,,,,7,,1,9,3,6,,,8,6,3,9,,2,5,4,,,,,3,2,,,7,4,1,1,,4,,6,9,,5,,,,5,,,1,,6,3,,,6,5,,,,7,4,,1,7,6,,,,8,,5,,,7,1,,3,9,"
I'm doing a programming challenge where i need to parse this sequence into my sudoku script.
Need to get the above sequence into 8,5,0,1,4,7,0,0,0,7,0,1,9,3,6,0,0,8.........
I tried re but without success, help is appreciated, thanks.
I want to loop through a Python list and process 2 list items at a time. Something like this in another language:
for(int i = 0; i < list.length(); i+=2)
{
// do something with list[i] and list[i + 1]
}
What's the best way to accomplish this?
i searched a little for the size of file in salesforce . i found this link
http://help.salesforce.com/HTViewHelpDoc?id=collab_files_size_limits.htm&language=en_US
its showing that file size can be upto 2 GB.i have to store IDs in a text file and want to make it scalable for for nearly about 1 Million record .file size will be equal to 15 MB .can any one please provide some good tutorial how to create such kind of files and using it in apex for retrieving and updating data
Hello,
I know it's not really a programming question but I don't know where to ask it.
Should i use a captcha in my sign up form ?
Facebook, twitter, foursquare, gowalla etc... don't use one (or not a visible one). Is there an invisible catpcha on theses sites ?
Thank you

I have an exe calling a DLL, in which when I allocate (new) the memory for class A (which is in DLL) it returns me a non-local heap pointer.
I try to new other classes which are in DLL and "new" returns a valid heap pointer for them, its only Class A which is not being allocated properly.
I am on windows and validating the heap by this function call :
_CrtIsValidHeapPointer ( (const void *) pPtr )
I am seriously confused why this only happens with new-ing Class A and no other class ?

Hi, I am learning the Opengl graphic programming at Eclipse. Can someone tell me the difference between GLUT application and SDL application, so that I can dig into either one of them? Tks.
We are programming a new web application framework (Second WAF). I was wondering if we should support cookieless sessions or not.
Who use it and who needs it?
What are my best options for creating a financial open-high-low-close (OHLC) chart in a high level language like Ruby or Python? While there seem to be a lot of options for graphing, I haven't seen any gems or eggs with this kind of chart.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-high-low-close_chart (but I don't need the moving average or Bollinger bands)
JFreeChart can do this in Java, but I'd like to make my codebase as small and simple as possible.
Thanks!
Hello everyone,
I'm using the rails-settings gem, and I'm trying to understand how you add functions to ActiveRecord classes (I'm building my own library for card games), and I noticed that this gem uses one of the Meta-programming techniques to add the function to the ActiveRecord::Base class (I'm far from Meta-programming master in ruby, but I'm trying to learn it)
module RailsSettings
class Railtie < Rails::Railtie
initializer 'rails_settings.initialize', :after => :after_initialize do
Railtie.extend_active_record
end
end
class Railtie
def self.extend_active_record
ActiveRecord::Base.class_eval do
def self.has_settings
class_eval do
def settings
RailsSettings::ScopedSettings.for_thing(self)
end
scope :with_settings, :joins => "JOIN settings ON (settings.thing_id = #{self.table_name}.#{self.primary_key} AND
settings.thing_type = '#{self.base_class.name}')",
:select => "DISTINCT #{self.table_name}.*"
scope :with_settings_for, lambda { |var| { :joins => "JOIN settings ON (settings.thing_id = #{self.table_name}.#{self.primary_key} AND
settings.thing_type = '#{self.base_class.name}') AND
settings.var = '#{var}'" } }
scope :without_settings, :joins => "LEFT JOIN settings ON (settings.thing_id = #{self.table_name}.#{self.primary_key} AND
settings.thing_type = '#{self.base_class.name}')",
:conditions => 'settings.id IS NULL'
scope :without_settings_for, lambda { |var| { :joins => "LEFT JOIN settings ON (settings.thing_id = #{self.table_name}.#{self.primary_key} AND
settings.thing_type = '#{self.base_class.name}') AND
settings.var = '#{var}'",
:conditions => 'settings.id IS NULL' } }
end
end
end
end
end
end
What I don't understand is why he uses class_eval on ActiveRecord::Base, wasn't it easier if he just open the ActiveRecord::Base class and define the functions? Specially that there's nothing dynamic in the block (What I mean by dynamic is when you do class_eval or instance_eval on a string containing variables)
something like this:
module ActiveRecord
class Base
def self.has_settings
class_eval do
def settings
RailsSettings::ScopedSettings.for_thing(self)
end
scope :with_settings, :joins => "JOIN settings ON (settings.thing_id = #{self.table_name}.#{self.primary_key} AND
settings.thing_type = '#{self.base_class.name}')",
:select => "DISTINCT #{self.table_name}.*"
scope :with_settings_for, lambda { |var| { :joins => "JOIN settings ON (settings.thing_id = #{self.table_name}.#{self.primary_key} AND
settings.thing_type = '#{self.base_class.name}') AND
settings.var = '#{var}'" } }
scope :without_settings, :joins => "LEFT JOIN settings ON (settings.thing_id = #{self.table_name}.#{self.primary_key} AND
settings.thing_type = '#{self.base_class.name}')",
:conditions => 'settings.id IS NULL'
scope :without_settings_for, lambda { |var| { :joins => "LEFT JOIN settings ON (settings.thing_id = #{self.table_name}.#{self.primary_key} AND
settings.thing_type = '#{self.base_class.name}') AND
settings.var = '#{var}'",
:conditions => 'settings.id IS NULL' } }
end
end
end
end
I understand the second class_eval (before the def settings) is to define functions on the fly on every class that 'has_settings' right ? Same question here, I think he could use "def self.settings" instead of "class_eval.... def settings", no ?
I need to develop a geometry library in python, describing points, lines and planes in 3d space, and various geometry operations. Related to my previous question.
The main issue in the design is if these entities should have identity or not. I was wondering if there's a similar library out there (developed in another language) to take inspiration from, what is the chosen design, and in particular the reason for one choice vs. the other.
I have just recently graduated from High School and I am looking for something productive to do over the summer. I was thinking of possibly learning a new language that can give me an edge in school or a good project to pursue that will look good on my resume for future jobs. Also how would I go about getting a job right out of high school or interning for a company for the summer?
Thanks in advance.
I'm trying to find out what a binormal is in the context of graphics programming but coming up short, I saw on a site that the binormal was being calculated as the corss between the normal and tangent (i.e. cross(normal, tangent)), is this the correct way to calculate a binormal?
For those of you who are into programming not just for the money. I would like to know which benefits you would like to have (or already have).
OK, maybe taking away the money factor will limit this question too much. I am surprised to see that most companies have a fixed set for their benefits package. Were you able to negotiate something new or just your salary? What things have you seen out there and/or value most?
Hi, Im a newbie in XML and i have some questions
Can XML be used in stead of normal database (store data in a tuple and column) in website?
XML is built to share information easier (from my understanding) such as can share cross platform and in different language used so Is it secure to store secure data in XML?
thank you so much
hello I'm new to PHP programming and I migrated from ASP .net to PHP..
I have a div just like below
<div id="mydiv"></div>
what I wanted to do is just to change the text and html content(like some name or any data in it) in it.
What I imagine is just like
mydiv=innertext="some value";
Thanks,

Is this considered good programming practise in C++:
try {
// some code
}
catch(someException) {
// do something
}
catch (...)
{
// left empty <-- Good Practise???
}
That is detect when the user makes web part changes and selects to exit editing the page.
I want to be able to capture a page event, then create a SharePoint task to instruct a user to translate that page to another language (note that MOSS and variations is not an option because the client wants to use the free version of SharePoint). So the customer wants essentially the same WSS site in multiple languages.
This question was inspired by what-features-would-you-like-to-see-added-to-c. anBasically, C++ is a great general-purpose language. But perhaps too general and feature-rich... multiple inheritance, operator overloading, manual memory management, templates, smart pointers, virtual destructors, legacy frameworks (think MFC), and I could just go on. Is there any one feature / aspect of C++ that you would like taken away, to make our lives easier as C++ developers?
One feature per answer, please.
After several Google searches, it appears that the way to create PDFs in Rails from HTML and CSS (versus a new markup language) is to use Prince.
With licensing at $3800 for my non-big-commercial app, I'm wondering if this is, in fact, consensus or people have an alternative they can share the whats and hows.
I've been teaching myself object oriented programming and I'm thinking about a situation where I have an object "Transaction", that has quite a few properties to it like account, amount, date, currency, type, etc.
I never plan to mutate these data points, and calculation logic will live in other classes. My question is, is it poor Python design to instantiate thousands of objects just to hold data? I find the data far easier to work with embedded in a class rather than trying to cram it into some combination of data structures.
Hi there
I'm programming against a Webservice that requires the amount of ticks (for the current time) (A single tick represents one hundred nanoseconds or one ten-millionth of a second) since 1.1.0001 (midnight).
what is the easiest way to get the amount of ticks from an NSDate Object?
thanks for your help
