  • Why "Finalize method should not reference any other objects" ?

    I have been pondering why it is recommended that we should not release managed resources inside finalize. If you see the code example at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.gc.suppressfinalize.aspx , and search for string "Dispose(bool disposing) executes in two distinct scenarios" and read that comment, you will understand what I mean. Only possibility I can think of is that it probably has something to do with the fact that it is not possible to predict when finalizer will get called. Does anyone know the right answer ? thanks, mishal

  • Azure Diagnostics wrt Custom Logs and honoring scheduledTransferPeriod

    I have implemented my own TraceListener similar to http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2013/05/23/diagnostics-of-cloud-services-custom-trace-listener.aspx . One thing I noticed is that that logs show up immediately in My Azure Table Storage. I wonder if this is expected with Custom Trace Listeners or because I am in a development environment. I would like to have scheduleTransferPeriod trigger the flush or trigger flush after a certain number of log entries like the buffer is full. Then I can also flush on server shutdown.   • Upside down question mark issue

    We have a very strange problem in out application, all of a sudden we started noticing upside down question marks being saved along with other text typed in to the fields on the screen. These upside down question marks were not originally entered by the users and it is unclear where they come from. We are using Oracle 10g with java.     Hello, I am returning the variable I am creating in a using statement inside the using statement (sounds funny): public DataTable foo () { using (DataTable properties = new DataTable()) { // do something return properties; } } Will this Dispose the properties variable?? After doing this am still getting this Warning: Warning 34 CA2000 : Microsoft.Reliability : In method 'test.test', call System.IDisposable.Dispose on object 'properties' before all references to it are out of scope.   • Terminology for mobile computing with a tablet?

I'm developing an occasionally connected application that will run on a tablet for clinicians or field service workers but I'm struggling with what this type of computing is referred to. Mobile computing as connotations of a phone app. Whereas our clients may be occasionally at their desk. Microsoft uses Smart Client a lot, but I'm not sure if that best describes this scenario or is the common term for this kind of computing.
