  • Reliable Storage Systems for SQL Server

By validating the IO path before commissioning the production database system, and performing ongoing validation through page checksums and DBCC checks, you can hopefully avoid data corruption altogether, or at least nip it in the bud. If corruption occurs, then you have to take the right decisions fast to deal with it. Rod Colledge explains how a pessimistic mindset can be an advantage...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Reportviewer stored procedure [closed]

    - by Liesl
I want to write a stored procedure for my invoice reportviewer. After invoice is generated in reportviewer it must also add the data to my Invoice table. This is all my tables in my database: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Waybills]( [WaybillID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [SenderName] [varchar](50) NULL, [SenderAddress] [varchar](50) NULL, [SenderContact] [int] NULL, [ReceiverName] [varchar](50) NULL, [ReceiverAddress] [varchar](50) NULL, [ReceiverContact] [int] NULL, [UnitDescription] [varchar](50) NULL, [UnitWeight] [int] NULL, [DateReceived] [date] NULL, [Payee] [varchar](50) NULL, [CustomerID] [int] NULL, PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Customer]( [CustomerID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [customerName] [varchar](30) NULL, [CustomerAddress] [varchar](30) NULL, [CustomerContact] [varchar](30) NULL, [VatNo] [int] NULL, CONSTRAINT [PK_Customer] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ) CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Cycle]( [CycleID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [CycleNumber] [int] NULL, [StartDate] [date] NULL, [EndDate] [date] NULL ) ON [PRIMARY] CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Payments]( [PaymentID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [Amount] [money] NULL, [PaymentDate] [date] NULL, [CustomerID] [int] NULL, PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED Create table Invoices ( InvoiceID int IDENTITY(1,1), InvoiceNumber int, InvoiceDate date, BalanceBroughtForward money, OutstandingAmount money, CustomerID int, WaybillID int, PaymentID int, CycleID int PRIMARY KEY (InvoiceID), FOREIGN KEY (CustomerID) REFERENCES Customer(CustomerID), FOREIGN KEY (WaybillID) REFERENCES Waybills(WaybillID), FOREIGN KEY (PaymentID) REFERENCES Payments(PaymentID), FOREIGN KEY (CycleID) REFERENCES Cycle(CycleID) ) I want my sp to find all waybills for specific customer in a specific cycle with payments made from this client. The idea is as follows: An employee wants to make a purchase, so they will go to the appropriate page in the intraNet They will fill out the form on the intraNet page They click the email button The data in the form is saved in a database, and an email is sent to me stating that there is purchase order request form filled out I am not exactly sure how to go about this. Part of me wants to create it in a Data Access Page but I am not sure that's correct. If there is no one here who can help, is there anyone who can direct me to someone/something that can help me?

  • Best way to rename existing unique field names in database?

    - by Rajdeep Siddhapura
I have a database table that contains id, filename, userId id is unique identifier filename should also be unique table may contain 10000 records When a user uploads a file it should be entered in database with given rules: If there is no record with same filename, it should be added as it is (Ex. foobar.pdf) If there is record with same filename, it should be added as uploadedName(2).ext (foobar(2).pdf) If there are n records with same base filename (foobar), it should be added as uploadedName(n+1).ext (foobar(20).pdf) Now if foobar(2).pdf is uploaded, it should be added as foobar(2)(2).pdf & so on This pattern needs to be followed because the file is already being uploaded at client side using ajax before sending the details to server and the file hosting service follows the above rules to name the files. My solution: maintain a file that contains all the names and the number of times it has occurred. if a filename that exists in file is entered, increase occurrence count and new name is generated, else add to it to file if the new name generated is in database, add it to file and generate new name

  • Visual Studio compiles WPF application twice during build

    - by Brian Ensink
I have a WPF app in VS2008 that compiles twice during the build. The two CSC command lines are similar but with some differences. The first CSC command line does not have an /resource options, the second has two /resource options on the command line. The second CSC command line has these additional arguments: /resource:"obj\Debug AutoCAD\VisualApp.g.resources" /resource:"obj\Debug AutoCAD\CAP.Visual.Properties.Resources.resources" I hate to post such a huge ugly compiler output but here are both command lines. 2>c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.5\Csc.exe /noconfig /nowarn:1701,1702 /platform:x86 /errorreport:prompt /warn:4 • C#, Powershell - Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.Admin

    - by Svein Erik
I'm having troubles using the Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.Admin on a server. The server is not the one running Exchange 2007, it's a remote server (in the same zone). I can't figure out how to add the Snapin for Powershell - Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.Admin. Is it possible to just get the dll file from the Exchange 2007 server, and copy it to the server where my code is running? Can someone please explain what I need to do to get my code running? The exception that i'm getting now is: "No Windows PowerShell Snap-ins are available for version 1". This is the code that generates the error: public void CreateMailBox(User user) { //Create a runspace for your cmdlets to run and include the Exchange Management SnapIn... RunspaceConfiguration runspaceConf = RunspaceConfiguration.Create(); PSSnapInException PSException = null; PSSnapInInfo info = runspaceConf.AddPSSnapIn("Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.Admin", out PSException); Runspace runspace = RunspaceFactory.CreateRunspace(runspaceConf); runspace.Open(); Pipeline pipeline = runspace.CreatePipeline(); Command command = new Command("New-Mailbox"); command.Parameters.Add("Name", user.UserName); .... The error is coming on the line with PSSnapInfo info = runspaceConf..... I'm using .NET 3.5

  • windows authentication vs sql server authentication for asp.net forms authentication site

    - by Brij
I have a database and a site having forms authentication. It is working fine with VS2008. This time, I am using "Trusted_connection =True". But when it is opened from outside or directly from browser then I am getting error "Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'." I know this is due to permission. SQL server is based on windows authentication. What is the best approach to manage user to connect sql server? Should I enable sql server authentication? Let me know what to do so that it makes the production feel and there wouldn't be any problem during deployment. Note: Sql server is installed on domain server.

  • How to catch a Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException?

    - by JL
    I am a bit perplexed on how to catch a specific error type of Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException, I'll explain why, and I've included a code sample below for you guys to see. As you know there are 2 ways to interact with MOSS. The object model (only runs on MOSS Server) Web Services (can be run on a remote machine querying the MOSS server) So as per code sample I'm using web services to query MOSS, because of this I don't have sharepoint installed on the remote server running these web services and without MOSS installed its impossible to reference the SharePoint DLL to get the specific error type : Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException. If I can't reference the DLL then how the heck am I supposed to catch this specific error type? System.Xml.XmlNode ndListView = wsLists.GetListAndView(ListName, ""); string strListID = ndListView.ChildNodes[0].Attributes["Name"].Value; string strViewID = ndListView.ChildNodes[1].Attributes["Name"].Value; System.Xml.XmlDocument doc = new System.Xml.XmlDocument(); System.Xml.XmlElement batchElement = doc.CreateElement("Batch"); batchElement.SetAttribute("OnError", "Continue"); batchElement.SetAttribute("ListVersion", "1"); batchElement.SetAttribute("ViewName", strViewID); batchElement.InnerXml = "<Method ID='1' Cmd='Update'>" + "<Field Name='DeliveryStatus'>" + newStatus.ToString() + "</Field>" + "<Where><Eq><FieldRef Name='ID' /><Value Type='Text'>" + id + "</Value></Eq></Where></Method>"; try { wsLists.UpdateListItems(strListID, batchElement); return true; } catch (Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException ex) { }

  • Which ORM to use with SQL Azure?

    - by Jamie Chapman
Just wondering what everyones thoughts on what ORM to use for SQL Azure? I'm fairly comfortable using LINQ-to-SQL and I believe it is possible to get it working with SQL Azure. However, from my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong), no further improvements will be made to Linq-to-SQL in future releases of the .NET framework? Alternatively, there is the entity framework... and further afield from the Microsoft Camp is NHibernate. Ideally, any additional suggestions made should be free or open source. I have seen Telerik's ORM but this of course, is a commercial product. I can get the definitions/benefits of each ORM myself by doing a Google search, but I was just interested in peoples opinions as to which ORM seems to work best for them (even if it is none of the above).

  • SQLCLR and DateTime2

    - by Moe Sisko
Using SQL Server 2008, Visual Studio 2005, .net 2.0 with SP2 (has support for new SQL Server 2008 data types). I'm trying to write an SQLCLR function that takes a DateTime2 as input and returns another DateTime2. e.g. : using System; using System.Data.SqlTypes; using Microsoft.SqlServer.Server; namespace MyCompany.SQLCLR { public class DateTimeHelpCLR { [SqlFunction(DataAccess = DataAccessKind.None)] public static SqlDateTime UTCToLocalDT(SqlDateTime val) { if (val.IsNull) return SqlDateTime.Null; TimeZone tz = System.TimeZone.CurrentTimeZone; DateTime res = tz.ToLocalTime(val.Value); return new SqlDateTime(res); } } } Now, the above compiles fine. I want these SqlDateTimes to map to SQL Server's DateTime2, so I try to run this T-SQL : CREATE function hubg.f_UTCToLocalDT ( @dt DATETIME2 ) returns DATETIME2 AS EXTERNAL NAME [SQLCLR].[MyCompany.SQLCLR.DateTimeHelpCLR].UTCToLocalDT GO This gives the following error : Msg 6551, Level 16, State 2, Procedure f_UTCToLocalDT, Line 1 CREATE FUNCTION for "f_UTCToLocalDT" failed because T-SQL and CLR types for return value do not match. Using DATETIME (instead of DATETIME2) works fine. But I'd rather use DATETIME2 to support the increased precision. What am I doing something wrong, or is DateTime2 not (fully) supported by SQLCLR ?

  • Microsoft Ajax Control Toolkit vs. jQuery

    - by Juri
Hi, we are currently developing a couple of custom asp.net server controls. Now we'd like to add some Ajax support to some of them. Now basically there would be two options Microsoft Ajax & Microsoft Ajax Control Toolkit jQuery I worked already with the Control Toolkit, writing a complete Extender and it was quite intuitive, once you understand the story behind. But I also like the simplicity of jQuery. So I'd like to hear some of you what you would like to go for (advantages/disadvantages of each of them), considering also that we're mainly dealing with Microsoft technologies. Would you go more for the toolkit or jQuery,...or both? //Edit: I just made some tests and I have to admit that at the moment I find the Toolkit better due to the integration. My purpose is mainly for using it on the server controls, so with the toolkit I have corresponding classes on the server-side where I can do something like CalendarExtender toolkitCalendarExtender = new CalendarExtender(); toolkitCalendarExtender.TargetControlID.... ... this.Controls.Add(toolkitCalendarExtender); This is really nice because in this way I don't have to deal with rendering predefined JavaScript which I construct somehow as string inside my custom server control. With jQuery I would have to do so (except for the toolkit Nicolas mentioned, but the support there is too weak for using it in a professional environment) Thanks a lot.
