• Track unicode words from Twitter using Ruby and the Tweetstream API

  I am trying to track a set of keywords from Twitter by using the Streaming API (can't post the link here because of spam limitations: google twitter streaming API). I am doing this inside Ruby, using the TweetStream gem: http://bit.ly/cODAWI The problem I have is that I want to track keywords that contain some unicode/UTF-8 characters. For instance: require 'rubygems' require 'tweetstream' TweetStream::Client.new("my_user_name", "my_password").track("é") do |s| puts s.text end (you can try it out, provided you installed the tweetstream and json gems) This piece of code does not print anything, while replacing "é" with "e" outputs a bunch of tweets continuously. I did not find any reliable documentation about Unicode in Ruby, so I have no idea where the problem comes from. Thanks for your help!

  I am still using the old colon syntax (I prefer it more than the bracket syntax) and this particular code: a.button-link +box($main-color) +border-radius(5px) :background :color $main-color :color #fff :padding 5px generates a warning like so: DEPRECATION WARNING: On line 12, character 3 of '/Users/eumir/rails_apps/dxconnect/app/ stylesheets/partials/utilities/_link-styles.sass' Setting properties with = has been deprecated and will be removed in version 3.2. Use "background: $main-color" instead. I tried that but my background color still doesn't show up. Any help on this please? Thanks!

• Finding the best jquery plugins

  Is there a resource for finding the "best" jquery plugins, or at least just the most used ones? For example, I wanted to find a menu jquery plugin but when I goto the jquery website there are so many to look through and I don't see a way to see how popular each one is. For ruby there's the http://ruby-toolbox.com/ which lists many plugins, how popular they are, info about them, etc. Is there something similar or at least some way to filter through all the jquery plugins? EDIT 1: To shed some more light on this - the "most popular" link on the jquery page is useless. I can't find a way to search through it but even worse, the ratings don't seem to mean much. Ex - the first item, in other words the most popular plugin in that list has 5 stars and TWO votes. Doesn't seem like a very reliable resource to me.

• NHibernate and Composite Key References

  I have a weird situation. I have three entities, Company, Employee, Plan and Participation (in retirement plan). Company PK: Company ID Plan PK: Company ID, Plan ID Employee PK: Company ID, SSN, Employee ID Participation PK: Company ID, SSN, Plan ID The problem is in linking the employee to the participation. From a DB perspective, participation should have Employee ID in the PK (it's not even in table). But it doesn't. NHibernate won't let me map the "has many" because the link expects 3 columns (since Employee PK has 3 columns), but I'd only provide 2. Any ideas on how to do this?

• jQuery Ajax form submit, to call php login script

  Thanks for checking out my problem... I'm having trouble submitting a login form via Ajax for a php script to run and return a new set of html items which will be replacing the HTML in #userlinks.... heres what I have so far $("#login_form").submit(function() { return false; }); $('#login_button').click(function(event) { $form = $(this).parent("form"); $.post($form.attr("action"), $form.serialize(), function(data){ $('#userlinks').html(data); }); }); The php script checks for post data of username && password, yet all I'm getting is a page refresh and no changes. Nothing returns unless I turn login_button into a link and change the script a bit... Any help would be appreciated!

• html form using input as a submit button

  Hello onlookers, A web site I've been using has some interesting behavior... There is a form, but there is no button for submission. Instead, there is an input: <input id="ctl00_pageContent_loginButton" type="image" style="border-width: 0px;" alt="Login" src="images/btn_login.gif" name="ctl00$pageContent$loginButton"/> and when you hover over it the cursor turns into a hand, like an anchor tag -- however I do not see any css (in firebug) showing that the input should have a hover attribute. Further, the input does not have any sign of being an actual link/submission button. I'm stumped -- would love to know how they were able to do this. • CKEditor plugin: Hightlight selected text by hovering on a new item in the toolbar and selecting fro

  I'm new to the CKEditor and I'm trying to create a simple plugin. What I'm hoping to accomplish is to allow the user to highlight some text and then hover on a new item in the toolbar that drops down on mouse over a few different highlight color options for the text. For example, the user could highlight some text, hover on my new item and then select a highlight color. This will be similar to the 'BGColor' plugin except instead of opening a color palette to choose from, the user would select from a drop down of options similar to when you choose to change the font size you have a list of options such as '10', '11', '12', etc. Any help would be appreciated on how to pull this off. I was hoping to check out how 'BGColor' and 'FontSize' plugins where implemented, but I can't find these in ../ckeditor/_source/plugins. Am I looking in the right spot? Also, the link for plugins here - http://docs.cksource.com/CKEditor_3.x/Developers_Guide isn't clickable so I'm not sure if there's a place for plugin documentation that I can check out.

My code is working when I use dinamycally, without any defined image. When I try with a imapge path, the code does not work. How can I solve this problem? • Element point map for html5 canvas element, need algorithm

  I'm currently working on a pure html 5 canvas implementation of the "flying tag cloud sphere", which many of you have undoubtedly seen as a flash object in some pages. The tags are drawn fine, and the performance is satisfactory, but there's one thing in the canvas element that's kind of breaking this idea: you can't identify the objects that you've drawn on a canvas, as it's just a simple flat "image".. What I have to do in this case is catch the click event, and try to "guess" which element was clicked. So I have to have some kind of matrix, which stores a link to a tag object for each pixel on the canvas, AND I have to update this matrix on every redraw. Now this sounds incredibly inefficient, and before I even start trying to implement this, I want to ask the community - is there some "well known" algorithm that would help me in this case? Or maybe I'm just missing something, and the answer is right behind the corner? :)

  As the question states, what exactly are the implications of having the 'implicit declaration of function' warning? We just cranked up the warning flags on gcc and found quite a few instances of these warnings and I'm curious what type of problems this may have caused prior to fixing them? Also, why is this a warning and not an error. How is gcc even able to successfully link this executable? As you can see in the example below, the executable functions as expected. (http:\/\/[^"].*?\.mp4)[",].*? How can I make it match only the last url only? Note that, the lines may contain any number of urls and anything in between. • Next and Previous MySQL row based on name

  Hi everyone, I have a table with details on personnel. I would like to create a Next/Previous link based on the individual's last name. Since personnel were not added in alphabetical order, selecting the next or previous row based on its ID does not work. It is a hefty table - the pertinent fields are id, name_l, and name_f. I would like to order by name_l, the individuals' last name. How would I go about accomplishing this task? Thanks!

  I am learning functional programming style. From this link http://channel9.msdn.com/shows/Going+Deep/Brian-Beckman-Dont-fear-the-Monads/, Brian Beckman gave a brilliant introduction about Monad. He mentioned that Monad is about composition of functions so as to address complexity. A Monad includes a unit function that transfers type T to an amplified type M(T); and a Bind function that, given function from T to M(U), transforms type M(T) to another type M(U). (U can be T, but is not necessarily). In my understanding, the language implementing monad should be type-checked statically. Otherwise, type errors cannot be found during compilation and "Complexity" is not controlled. Is my understanding correct?

I just wonder how just put one table for Comments and link all other entities to it. Obviously, Comments table needs 3 references (foreign key) to those tables but as you know these foreign keys can’t be null and just one of them can be filled for each row. Any thoughts?

• Django 404 pages not appearing?

  I want to add a 404 page on my Django site. I've created a template, 404.html, and saved it in the root of my /templates directory. I've also made sure that the from django.conf.urls.defaults import * line is included at the top of urls.py. I've set DEBUG to False. (I've been following these instructions.) However, if I try to go to a page that I know doesn't exist - whether a made-up URL or a view specifically designed to do get_object_or_404 - the 404 page doesn't appear: I just get Chrome's standard 'Oops! This link appears to be broken' page. Oddly, I also have a 500.html template in the same place and that is appearing just fine if I generate a 500 error. What might the problem be?
