• Handle edittexts onKeyListener ?

  Hi everyone, I am creating login screen with 2 editTexts: etUsername and etPassword. On the etUsername, user should input the username and press Enter to go to the edit text etPassword, then he inputs the password, press Enter to login. Here are my current codes: etUsername.setOnKeyListener(new OnKeyListener() { @Override public boolean onKey(View v, int keyCode, KeyEvent event) { if ((keyCode == KeyEvent.KEYCODE_ENTER)) { etPassword.requestFocus(); return true; } else return false; } }); etPassword.setOnKeyListener(new OnKeyListener() { @Override public boolean onKey(View v, int keyCode, KeyEvent event) { if ((keyCode == KeyEvent.KEYCODE_ENTER)) { loginToServer(); return true; } else return false; } }); But when I input the username, and then press Enter – the program tries to log in to the server. In the debug mode, I saw that when I pressed Enter once (on the etUsername) then first: etUsername.onKey() is called and then etPassword.onKey() is also called ! • How to use different providers for Linq to entities?

  I'm trying to familiarize myself a bit more with database programming, and I'm looking at different ways of creating a data access layer for applications. I've tried out a few ways but there is such a jungle of different database technologies that I don't know what to learn. For instance I've tried using datasets with tableadapters. Using that I am able to switch data provider rather easily (by programming against the interfaces such as IDbConnection). This is one thing I would want to achieve. But I also know everyone's talking about LINQ, and I'm trying to get to know that a bit better too. So I have tried using Linq to Sql classes as the data access layer as well, but apparently this is not provider independent (works only for SQL Server). So then I read about the Entity Framework (which just as Linq to SQL apparently has gotten its share of bashing already...). It's supposed to be provider independent everybody says, but how? I tried out a tutorial to create an entity data model, but the only providers to choose from were SQL Server/Express. Just for learning purposes, I would like to know how to use the entity framework with MS Access/OleDb. Also, I would appreciate some input on what is the preferred database technology for data access. Is it LINQ still after all the bashing, or should you just use datasets because they are provider independent? Any pointers for what to learn would be great, because it's just too much to learn it all if I'm not going to use it in the end...!

• Javascript object properties access functions in parent constructor?

  So I'm using this pretty standard jquery plugin pattern whereby you can grab an api after applying the jquery function to a specific instance. This API is essentially a javascript object with a bunch of methods and data. So I wanted to essentially create some private internal methods for the object only to manipulate data etc, which just doesn't need to be available as part of the API. I'm not understanding the explanation behind why it can't. • How to synchronize access to many objects

  I have a thread pool with some threads (e.g. as many as number of cores) that work on many objects, say thousands of objects. Normally I would give each object a mutex to protect access to its internals, lock it when I'm doing work, then release it. When two threads would try to access the same object, one of the threads has to wait. Now I want to save some resources and be scalable, as there may be thousands of objects, and still only a hand full of threads. I'm thinking about a class design where the thread has some sort of mutex or lock object, and assigns the lock to the object when the object should be accessed. This would save resources, as I only have as much lock objects as I have threads. Now comes the programming part, where I want to transfer this design into code, but don't know quite where to start. I'm programming in C++ and want to use Boost classes where possible, but self written classes that handle these special requirements are ok. How would I implement this? My first idea was to have a boost::mutex object per thread, and each object has a boost::shared_ptr that initially is unset (or NULL). Now when I want to access the object, I lock it by creating a scoped_lock object and assign it to the shared_ptr. When the shared_ptr is already set, I wait on the present lock. This idea sounds like a heap full of race conditions, so I sort of abandoned it. Is there another way to accomplish this design? A completely different way?

  I am trying to write a web widget which will allow users to display customized information (from my website) in their own web page. The mechanism I want to use (for creating the web widget) is javascript. So basically, I want to be able to write some javascript code like this (this is what the end user copies into their HTML page, to get my widget displayed in their page) <script type="text/javascript"> /* javascript here to fetch page from remote url and insert into DOM */ </script> I have two questions: how do I write a javascript code to fetch the page from the remote url? Ideally this will be PLAIN javascript (i.e. not using jQuery etc - since I dont want to force the user to get third party scripts jQuery which may conflict with other scripts on their page etc) The page I am fetching contains inline javascript, which gets executed in an body.onLoad event, as well as other functions which are used in response to user actions - my questions are: i). will the body.onLoad event be triggered for the retrieved document?. ii). If the retrieved page is dumped directly into the DOM, then the document will contain two <body> sections, which is no longer valid (X)HTML - however, I need the body.onLoad event to be triggered for the page to be setup correctly, and I also need the other functions in the retrieved page, for the retrieved page to be able to respond to the user interaction. Any suggestions/tips on how I can solve these problems?

• Using Zend_Db and multiple tables

  I have a normalized database that stores locations of files on the internet. A file may have multiple locations spread across different sites. I am storing the urls in two parts (Site.UrlStart, FileLocation.UrlEnd). The UrlEnd is the part unique to that file (for the site). Simplified Db structure: I am using Zend_Db as my ORM (If it is that), with classes for the tables inheriting from Zend_Db_Table_Abstract. The issue is that retrieving the location data (e.g. the url) requires the use of multiple tables and as far as I can make out and I would either have to use both table classes (thereby exposing my table structure) or scatter sql all over my application, neither of which sound appealing. The only solution I can see is to create a façade that acts like Zend_Db_Table_Abstract (Maybe inherits from it?) and hides the fact that the data is actually on two tables. My questions are as follows: Am I going in the right direction in creating a façade class (Are there other alternatives)? Should the facade class inherit from Zend_Db_Table_Abstract?

• Drawing animation

  I'm creating a simple app where when the user presses a button, a series of lines will be drawn on the screen and the user will be able to see these lines drawn in real time (almost like an animation). My code looks something like this (has been simplified): UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(CGSizeMake(300,300)); CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); for (int i = 0; i < 100; i++ ) { CGContextMoveToPoint(context, i, i); CGContextAddLineToPoint(context, i+20, i+20); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, [[UIColor blackColor] CGColor]); CGContextStrokePath(context); } UIImage *newImage = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext(); My problem is that: 1) As soon as the user presses the button, the UIThread blocks until the drawing is done. 2) I can't get the lines to be drawn on the screen one at a time - I've tried setting the UIImage directly inside the loop and also tried setting a layer content inside the loop. How do I get around these problems?

• Parsing an XML string containing "&#x20;" (which must be preserved)

  I have code that is passed a string containing XML. This XML may contain one or more instances of &#x20; (an entity reference for the blank space character). I have a requirement that these references should not be resolved (i.e. they should not be replaced with an actual space character). Is there any way for me to achieve this? Basically, given a string containing the XML: <pattern value="[A-Z0-9&#x20;]" /> I do not want it to be converted to: <pattern value="[A-Z0-9 ]" /> (What I am actually trying to achieve is to simply take an XML string and write it to a "pretty-printed" file. This is having the side-effect of resolving occurrences of &#x20; in the string to a single space character, which need to be preserved. The reason for this requirement is that the written XML document must conform to an externally-defined specification.) I have tried creating a sub-class of XmlTextReader to read from the XML string and overriding the ResolveEntity() method, but this isn't called. I have also tried assigning a custom XmlResolver.

  Consider the following public method that adds an integer variable to a vector of ints(private member) in a class in C++. KoolMethod() { int x; x = 10; KoolList.Add(x); } Vector<int>KoolList; But is this a valid addition to a vector ??? Upon calling the method, it creates a local variable. The scope of this local variable ends the moment the execution control leaves the method. And since this local variable is allocated on a stack(on the method call), any member of KoolList points to an invalid memory location in deallocated stack which may or may not contain the expected value of x. Is this an accurate description of above mechanism ?? • Looping Through Database Query

  I am creating a very simple script. The purpose of the script is to pull a question from the database and display all answers associated with that particular question. We are dealing with two tables here and there is a foreign key from the question database to the answer database so answers are associated with questions. Hope that is enough explanation. • Scalable way to store files on server (PHP)?

  I'm creating my first web application - a really simplistic online text editor. What I need to do is find the best way to store text based files - a lot of them. These text files can be past 10,000 words in size (text words not computer words.) in essence I want the text documents to be limitless in size. I was thinking about storing the text files in my MySQL database - but thought there was a better way. Instead I'm planing on storing the text files in XML based format in a directory on my server. The rows in the database define the name of the xml based text file and the user who created the text along with basic metadata. An ID is generated using a V4 GUID generator , which gives the text an id and stores the text in the "/store" directory on my server. The text definitions in my server contain this id, and the android app I'm developing gets the contents of the text file by retrieving the text definition and then downloading the text to the local device using the GUID in the text definition. I just think this is a botch job? how can I improve this system? There has been cases of GUID colliding. I don't want this to happen. A "slim" possibility isn't good enough - I need to make sure there is absolutely no chance in a GUID collision. I was planning on checking the database for texts that have the same id before storing the text with a particular id - I however believe with over 20,000 pieces of text in my database this would take an long time and produce unneeded stress on the server. How can I make GUID safe? What happens when a GUID collides? The server backend is going to be written in PHP.

• How to store arbitrary data for some HTML tags

  I'm making a page which has some interaction provided by javascript. Just as an example: links which send an AJAX request to get the content of articles and then display that data in a div. Obviously in this example, I need each link to store an extra bit of information: the id of the article. The way I've been handling it in case was to put that information in the href link this: <a class="article" href="#5"> I then use jQuery to find the a.article elements and attach the appropriate event handler. (don't get too hung up on the usability or semantics here, it's just an example) Anyway, this method works, but it smells a bit, and isn't extensible at all (what happens if the click function has more than one parameter? what if some of those parameters are optional?) The immediately obvious answer was to use attributes on the element. I mean, that's what they're for, right? (Kind of). <a articleid="5" href="link/for/non-js-users.html"> In my recent question I asked if this method was valid, and it turns out that short of defining my own DTD (I don't), then no, it's not valid or reliable. A common response was to put the data into the class attribute (though that might have been because of my poorly-chosen example), but to me, this smells even more. Yes it's technically valid, but it's not a great solution. Another method I'd used in the past was to actually generate some JS and insert it into the page in a <script> tag, creating a struct which would associate with the object. var myData = { link0 : { articleId : 5, target : '#showMessage' // etc... }, link1 : { articleId : 13 } }; <a href="..." id="link0"> But this can be a real pain in butt to maintain and is generally just very messy. So, to get to the question, how do you store arbitrary pieces of information for HTML tags?

  I have a packet from a server which is parsed in an embedded system. I need to parse it in a very efficient way, avoiding memory issues, like overlapping, corrupting my memory and others variables. The packet has this structure "String A:String B:String C". As example, here the packet received is compounded of three parts separated using a separator ":", all these parts must be accesibles from an structure. Which is the most efficient and safe way to do this. A.- Creating an structure with attributes (partA, PartB PartC) sized with a criteria based on avoid exceed this sized from the source of the packet, and attaching also an index with the length of each part in a way to avoid extracting garbage, this part length indicator could be less or equal to 300 (ie: part B). typedef struct parsedPacket_struct { char partA[2];int len_partA; char partB[300];int len_partB; char partC[2];int len_partC; }parsedPacket; The problem here is that I am wasting memory, because each structure should copy the packet content to each the structure, is there a way to only save the base address of each part and still using the len_partX.

• Get parameter values from method at run time

  I have the current method example: public void MethodName(string param1,int param2) { object[] obj = new object[] { (object) param1, (object) param2 }; //Code to that uses this array to invoke dynamic methods } Is there a dynamic way (I am guessing using reflection) that will get the current executing method parameter values and place them in a object array? I have read that you can get parameter information using MethodBase and MethodInfo but those only have information about the parameter and not the value it self which is what I need. So for example if I pass "test" and 1 as method parameters without coding for the specific parameters can I get a object array with two indexes { "test", 1 }? I would really like to not have to use a third party API, but if it has source code for that API then I will accept that as an answer as long as its not a huge API and there is no simple way to do it without this API. I am sure there must be a way, maybe using the stack, who knows. You guys are the experts and that is why I come here. Thank you in advance, I can't wait to see how this is done. EDIT It may not be clear so here some extra information. This code example is just that, an example to show what I want. It would be to bloated and big to show the actual code where it is needed but the question is how to get the array without manually creating one. I need to some how get the values and place them in a array without coding the specific parameters.

• Elegent methods for caching search results from RESTful service?

  I have a RESTful web service which I access from the browser using JavaScript. As an example, say that this web service returns a list of all the Message resources assigned to me when I send a GET request to /messages/me. For performance reasons, I'd like to cache this response so that I don't have to re-fetch it every time I visit my Manage Messages web page. The cached response would expire after 5 minutes. If a Message resource is created "behind my back", say by the system admin, it's possible that I won't know about it for up to 5 minutes, until the cached search response expires and is re-fetched. This is acceptable, because it creates no confusion for me. However if I create a new Message resource which I know should be part of the search response, it becomes confusing when it doesn't appear on my Manage Messages page immediately. In general, when I knowingly create/delete/update a resource that invalidates a cached search response, I need that cached response to be expired/flushed immediately. The core problem which I can't figure out: I see no simple way of connecting the task of creating/deleting/updating a resource with the task of expiring the appropriate cached responses. In this example it seems simple, I could manually expire the cached search response whenever I create/delete/update a(ny) Message resource. But in a more complex system, keeping track of which search responses to expire under what circumstances will get clumsy quickly. If someone could suggest a simple solution or some clarifying thoughts, I'd appreciate it.

• Some ASP.NET and Access

  Good Day all, I have a big problem but i think its minor for you guys in Stackoverflow. I am creating a web application that has two main parts. The Payment part and Requisition part. It backbone is using access and the script is in ASP.NET. I managed to sort out most of the application. But I have been having a few problems. I have pasted the link to the project in http://www.mediafire.com/download/p09fefreifidud3/Inyatsi.rar so it will be easy for someone to see what I am blabbing about. Now for my problems: The AddRequisition.aspx/AddPayment.aspx: both have a reference number. I wanted it to be unique number(but not a primary key). I wanted it to be in the following format: DDMMYY(TransactionNo)(UserID) eg: 24061101PK. I have tried and tried but have not been able to sort it out. The AmountINWords gets the value from Amount. It converts the Amount into words. Thats not all. It picks what currncy was picked in the CurrencyPaidIn and pust the respective currency inside. eg. 123.45 USD becomes One Hundred and twenty three dollars and forty five cents. I tried using queries but as you will see that went all wrong. Those are the only two things that I cant seem to get my head around. I do know that there are some things that are not conventional ASP.NET and some text boxes are not the right size. I was thinking of sorting out those after I get those two fixed because they are simple to do. I really need some help with this application please. If someone can just have a look at the code and add a few things here and there. Thanks in advance. Faz

• Doing a global count of an object type (like Users), best practice?

  Hi, I know keeping global counters is frowned upon in app engine. I am interested in getting some stats though, like once every 24 hours. For example, I'd like to count the number of User objects in the system once every 24 hours. So how do we do this? Do we simply keep a set of admin tool functions which do something like: SELECT FROM com.me.project.server.User; and just see what the size of the returned List is? This is kind of a bummer because the datastore would have to deserialize every single User instance to create the returned list, right? I could optimize this possibly by asking for only the keys to be returned, so the whole User object doesn't have to be deserialized. Then again, a global counter for # of users probably would create too much contention, because there probably won't be hundreds of signups a minute for the service I'm creating. How should we go about doing this? Getting my total number of users once a day is probably a pretty typical operation? Thank you

  Hi all, I am a C++,Unix developer who has never dabbled in web development apart from creating simple HTML pages. I am going to change that and develop a website at a personal level soon. I am going to use php,mysql on a linux machine. In this regard I am browsing through relevant literature. The language isn't a problem but reading about CMS's and frameworks is confusing. And since I am new to web development, the number of CMS's and Frameworks are overwhelming. ? My question is do I need to have knowledge of one or more CMS' and/or Frameworks like Drupal,Joomla,Zend,Wordpress etc. If yes which is the best open source CMS' and/or Framework suggested for a newbie. ?? If the answer to the above question is yes, does the choice changes if one delves into the realms of commercial web development? I know this is very much wrong, I've been writing C++ for about three days now, but here's my code anyway: clientData.h, two classes, ClientData extends Entity : #pragma once class Entity { public: int x, y, width, height, leftX, rightX, topY, bottomY; Entity(int x, int y, int width, int height); ~Entity(); }; class ClientData : public Entity { public: ClientData(); ~ClientData(); }; and clientData.cpp, which contains the functions: #include <iostream> #include "clientData.h" using namespace std; Entity::Entity(int x, int y, int width, int height) { this->x = x; this->y = y; this->width = width; this->height = height; this->leftX = x - (width/2); this->rightX = x + (width/2); this->topY = y - (height/2); this-bottomY = y + (height/2); } Entity::~Entity() { cout << "Destructing.\n"; } ClientData::ClientData() { cout << "Client constructed."; } ClientData::~ClientData() { cout << "Destructing.\n"; } and finally, I'm creating a new ClientData with: ClientData * Data = new ClientData(32,32,32,16); Now, I'm not surprised my compiler shouts errors at me, so how do I pass the arguments to the right classes? The first error (from MVC2008) is error C2661: 'ClientData::ClientData' : no overloaded function takes 4 arguments and the second, which pops up whatever changes I seem to make is error C2512: 'Entity' : no appropriate default constructor available Thanks.

  Hi i am creating table using table helper, but in every row i want to add form, in html like this : <table> <form action=""> <tr> <td><input type="text" name="name2"></td> </tr> </form> <form action=""> <tr> <td><input type="text" name="name2"></td> </tr> </form> </table> But i want in table helper: I have tried this one: $this->table->add_row( form_open('myAction'). form_input('name'.$i), form_submit('Submit') form_close() ); And I use firebugs to inspect element produces, like this: <table> <tr> <form action="myAction"> <td><input type="text" name="name1"></td> </form> <td><input type="submit"></td> </tr> </table> why tag doesn't show at the last tag , but show at the first tag . On click the button:- The submit function is working properly in firefox, but not in IE. Instead of submitting the value(in this example values are 'Report' and 'Excel'), indeed it is submitting the label of the button. That is if i am checking the value of array PRINT_R($_POST). The value of it is Array ( [report] =>(Icon that i used) Report [excel] => (Icon that i used) Excel [frm_analysis] => [to_analysis] => ) Here i have more than 1 button, then all the labels are submitted eventhough one of them is pressed. i dont how to capture which button is pressed. I even tried changing button type=button and onclick="document.formname.submit()" Even this is resulting in the same. Can you please help me to solve this.
