  • How to convert the output of an artificial neural network into probabilities?

    - by Mathieu Pagé
    I've read about neural network a little while ago and I understand how an ANN (especially a multilayer perceptron that learns via backpropagation) can learn to classify an event as true or false. I think there are two ways : 1) You get one output neuron. It it's value is 0.5 the events is likely true, if it's value is <=0.5 the event is likely to be false. 2) You get two output neurons, if the value of the first is than the value of the second the event is likely true and vice versa. In these case, the ANN tells you if an event is likely true or likely false. It does not tell how likely it is. Is there a way to convert this value to some odds or to directly get odds out of the ANN. I'd like to get an output like "The event has a 84% probability to be true"

  • what's the UNC path for local computer from a remote machine ?

    - by KaluSingh Gabbar
    I am writing a small utility program in IronPython to install applications on remote machine using managementclass which uses WMI. Now, the script would install an application on Machine_B from Machine_A, it works fine as long as you have the msi file on the local drive of the Target machine (Machine_B, in this case). I want to be able to do same thing with .msi file being on the Host (Machine_A) machine. network_scope = r"\\%Machine_B\root\cimv2" scope = ManagementScope(network_scope, options) scope.Connect() mp = ManagementPath("Win32_Product") ogo = ObjectGetOptions() mc = ManagementClass(scope, mp, ogo) inParams = mc.GetMethodParameters ("Install") inParams["PackageLocation"] = r"C:\installs\python-3.1.1.msi" inParams["AllUsers"] = True retVal = mc.InvokeMethod ("Install", inParams, None) print retVal ["ReturnValue"].ToString() PROBLEM : [Machine A] --- Where I am running the script, and want to host the .msi file [Machine B] --- where I want to install the application So, How can I define the UNC path for local machine ? what will be inParams["PackageLocation"] = ??

  • Interoperability when returning derived class by base class in WCF

    - by mt_serg
    I have some simple code: [DataContract] [KnownType(typeof(SpecialEvent))] public class Event { //data } [DataContract] public class SpecialEvent : Event { //data } [ServiceContract] public interface IService { [OperationContract] List<Event> GetEvents(); } [ServiceBehavior] public class Service : IService { public List<Event> GetEvents() { List<Event> events = new List<Event>(); events.Add(new Event()); events.Add(new SpecialEvent()); return events; } } I know that it works fine in case wcf to wcf. but what about interoperability? is it generate standart wsdl and any client can use the service or no?

  • How to string multiple TextReaders together?

    - by Ken
    I have 3 TextReaders -- a combination of StreamReaders and StringReaders. Conceptually, the concatenation of them is a single text document. I want to call a method (not under my control) that takes a single TextReader. Is there any built-in or easy way to make a concatenating TextReader from multiple TextReaders? (I could write my own TextReader subclass, but it looks like a fair amount of work. In that case, I'd just write them all out to a temp file and then open it with a single StreamReader.) Is there an easy solution to this that I'm missing?

  • Create a view like Tweetie's User Profile view

    - by Graeme
    Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea on how you can create a view that looks like the user profile view in apps like Tweetie, where there are seemingly multiple tables with a couple of normal (straight up and down tables) and then two rows of six cells, which in Tweeties case have the number of followers, following etc. I'm trying to make a similar view for my app, but can't seem to find out the best way to create it. Any tutorials, advice etc. would be appreciated. Thanks. P.S. Here's a picture of the view which I'm trying to recreate.

  • What programming language is used to design google algorithm?

    - by AKN
    It is known that google has best searching & indexing algorithm. The also have good relevancy. They are also quicker in getting down the latest results. All that's fine. What programming language (c, c++, java, etc...) & database (oracle, MySQL, etc...) they have used in achieving this. Since they have to manipulate with volume of data quickly and effectively. Though I'm not looking for their indepth architecture (if in case violates their company policies) an overview of all such things could be useful. Anybody please add you valuable suggestions and insight on this?

  • Is this more suited for key value storage or a tree?

    - by JC
    I'm trying to figure out the best way to represent some data. It basically follows the form Manufacturer.Product.Attribute = Value. Something like: Acme.*.MinimumPrice = 100 Acme.ProductA.MinimumPrice = 50 Acme.ProductB.MinimumPrice = 60 Acme.ProductC.DefaultColor = Blue So the minimum price across all Acme products is 100 except in the case of product A and B. I want to store this data in C# and have some function where GetValue("Acme.ProductC.MinimumPrice") returns 100 but GetValue("Acme.ProductA.MinimumPrice") return 50. I'm not sure how to best represent the data. Is there a clean way to code this in C#?

  • Overriding constructors

    - by demas
    Here is sample code: class One def initialize(*args) case args.size when 0 puts "one initialize" when 1 puts "one initialize #{args[0]}" end end end class Two def initialize(*args) if args.size == 2 then puts "two initialize #{args[0]} and #{args[1]}" else super(args) end end end one = One.new one = One.new("thing") two = Two.new("some", "other") two = Two.new("some") Now I'm launching the code and getting the error message: [[email protected]][~/temp]% ruby test2.rb one initialize one initialize thing two initialize some and other test2.rb:17:in `initialize': wrong number of arguments(1 for 0) (ArgumentError) from test2.rb:17:in `initialize' from test2.rb:26:in `new' from test2.rb:26:in `<main>' How can I call parent's constructor from class Two ?

  • Embed remote desktop in browser

    - by Shaun_web
    I would like to embed a Remote Desktop session within my browser. I must use remote desktop because my clients can't install any additional software on the server. Here are some problems that I can already foresee: 1) I believe that I can embed an RDP ActiveX control, but then all I could support is IE. And even then, IE lockdown may forbid ActiveX controls. 2) I don't know anything about Apple computers, but I presume that they don't inherently run RDP? 3) I think there are ways to run RDP through a Java control. I don't have experience to know if this is a good or bad idea. I suppose that Java may even be disabled on some browsers, but don't know if this is a common case? So, what options have I got here to make this work reliably? I presume that I may need some default options (ie ActiveX), and then some fallback options (ie Java), and code to identify the correct option each time.

  • Generic extension method returning IEnumerable<T> without using reflection

    - by roosteronacid
    Consider this snippet of code: public static class MatchCollectionExtensions { public static IEnumerable<T> AsEnumerable<T>(this MatchCollection mc) { return new T[mc.Count]; } } And this class: public class Ingredient { public String Name { get; set; } } Is there any way to magically transform a MatchCollection object to a collection of Ingredient? The use-case would look something like this: var matches = new Regex("([a-z])+,?").Matches("tomato,potato,carrot"); var ingredients = matches.AsEnumerable<Ingredient>();

  • How do I get query string value from script path?

    - by TruMan1
    I am adding my Javsacript file in pages with different query strings in the script path like this: Page1: <script type="text/javascript" src="file.js?abc=123"></script> Page2: <script type="text/javascript" src="file.js?abc=456"></script> Page3: <script type="text/javascript" src="file.js?abc=789"></script> In my Javascript file, how can I get the value of the "abc" param? I tried using window.location for this, but that does not work. In case it helps, below is a function I use to find the value of a query string param: function getQuerystring(key, defaultValue) { if (defaultValue == null) defaultValue = ""; key = key.replace(/[\[]/, "\\\[").replace(/[\]]/, "\\\]"); var regex = new RegExp("[\\?&]" + key + "=([^&#]*)"); var qs = regex.exec(window.location.href); if (qs == null) return defaultValue; else return qs[1]; }

  • How should I delete a child object from within a parent's slot? Possibly boost::asio specific.

    - by kaliatech
    I have written a network server class that maintains a std::set of network clients. The network clients emit a signal to the network server on disconnect (via boost::bind). When a network client disconnects, the client instance needs to be removed from the Set and eventually deleted. I would think this is a common pattern, but I am having problems that might, or might not, be specific to ASIO. I've tried to trim down to just the relevant code: /** NetworkServer.hpp **/ class NetworkServices : private boost::noncopyable { public: NetworkServices(void); ~NetworkServices(void); private: void run(); void onNetworkClientEvent(NetworkClientEvent&); private: std::set<boost::shared_ptr<const NetworkClient>> clients; }; /** NetworkClient.cpp **/ void NetworkServices::run() { running = true; boost::asio::io_service::work work(io_service); //keeps service running even if no operations // This creates just one thread for the boost::asio async network services boost::thread iot(boost::bind(&NetworkServices::run_io_service, this)); while (running) { boost::system::error_code err; try { tcp::socket* socket = new tcp::socket(io_service); acceptor->accept(*socket, err); if (!err) { NetworkClient* networkClient = new NetworkClient(io_service, boost::shared_ptr<tcp::socket>(socket)); networkClient->networkClientEventSignal.connect(boost::bind(&NetworkServices::onNetworkClientEvent, this, _1)); clients.insert(boost::shared_ptr<NetworkClient>(networkClient)); networkClient->init(); //kicks off 1st asynch_read call } } // etc... } } void NetworkServices::onNetworkClientEvent(NetworkClientEvent& evt) { switch(evt.getType()) { case NetworkClientEvent::CLIENT_ERROR : { boost::shared_ptr<const NetworkClient> clientPtr = evt.getClient().getSharedPtr(); // ------ THIS IS THE MAGIC LINE ----- // If I keep this, the io_service hangs. If I comment it out, // everything works fine (but I never delete the disconnected NetworkClient). // If actually deleted the client here I might expect problems because it is the caller // of this method via boost::signal and bind. However, The clientPtr is a shared ptr, and a // reference is being kept in the client itself while signaling, so // I would the object is not going to be deleted from the heap here. That seems to be the case. // Never-the-less, this line makes all the difference, most likely because it controls whether or not the NetworkClient ever gets deleted. clients.erase(clientPtr); //I should probably put this socket clean-up in NetworkClient destructor. Regardless by doing this, // I would expect the ASIO socket stuff to be adequately cleaned-up after this. tcp::socket& socket = clientPtr->getSocket(); try { socket.shutdown(boost::asio::socket_base::shutdown_both); socket.close(); } catch(...) { CommServerContext::error("Error while shutting down and closing socket."); } break; } default : { break; } } } /** NetworkClient.hpp **/ class NetworkClient : public boost::enable_shared_from_this<NetworkClient>, Client { NetworkClient(boost::asio::io_service& io_service, boost::shared_ptr<tcp::socket> socket); virtual ~NetworkClient(void); inline boost::shared_ptr<const NetworkClient> getSharedPtr() const { return shared_from_this(); }; boost::signal <void (NetworkClientEvent&)> networkClientEventSignal; void onAsyncReadHeader(const boost::system::error_code& error, size_t bytes_transferred); }; /** NetworkClient.cpp - onAsyncReadHeader method called from io_service.run() thread as result of an async_read operation. Error condition usually result of an unexpected client disconnect.**/ void NetworkClient::onAsyncReadHeader( const boost::system::error_code& error, size_t bytes_transferred) { if (error) { //Make sure this instance doesn't get deleted from parent/slot deferencing //Alternatively, somehow schedule for future delete? boost::shared_ptr<const NetworkClient> clientPtr = getSharedPtr(); //Signal to service that this client is disconnecting NetworkClientEvent evt(*this, NetworkClientEvent::CLIENT_ERROR); networkClientEventSignal(evt); networkClientEventSignal.disconnect_all_slots(); return; } I believe it's not safe to delete the client from within the slot handler because the function return would be ... undefined? (Interestingly, it doesn't seem to blow up on me though.) So I've used boost:shared_ptr along with shared_from_this to make sure the client doesn't get deleted until all slots have been signaled. It doesn't seem to really matter though. I believe this question is not specific to ASIO, but the problem manifests in a peculiar way when using ASIO. I have one thread executing io_service.run(). All ASIO read/write operations are performed asynchronously. Everything works fine with multiple clients connecting/disconnecting UNLESS I delete my client object from the Set per the code above. If I delete my client object, the io_service seemingly deadlocks internally and no further asynchronous operations are performed unless I start another thread. I have try/catches around the io_service.run() call and have not been able to detect any errors. Questions: Are there best practices for deleting child objects, that are also signal emitters, from within parent slots? Any ideas as to why the io_service is hanging when I delete my network client object?

  • [grails] attaching multiple files to a domain class

    - by Emyr
    I've seen various Grails plugins which allow easier handling of file uploads, however these tend only to support a single file per form-submit. I'd like a multi-attach form where as soon as you pick one file, an extra field and button is added using JS (various sites do it like this). Do you know of any good plugins which provide elegant uploading of multiple files without excessive coding? A progress bar either per-file of for the whole process would also be very nice. I don't know to what extent I can allow GORM to handle a java.io.File field (or in this case a Collection<File>).

  • Solr date field tdate vs date?

    - by user550178
    So I have a question about Solr's field date types which is pretty straight forward: what's the difference between a 'date' field and a 'tdate' one? The schema .xml claims that 'For faster range queries, consider the tdate type' and 'A Trie based date field for faster date range queries and date faceting. ' Fair enough... but what's the precisionStep="6" all about? should i change this? does it change the way i would create the query in case I use the tdate? What's the real advantage or what does Solr do that makes it better? P.S went through google, Solr manual, solr wiki and the java docs without any luck so I'd appreciate a kind and explanatory answer :)... Also checked: http://www.lucidimagination.com/blog/2009/05/13/exploring-lucene-and-solrs-trierange-capabilities/ http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/AAfXfqRYyLnDFtskmLRi

  • About enumerations in Delphi and c++ in 64-bit environments

    - by sum1stolemyname
    I recently had to work around the different default sizes used for enumerations in Delphi and c++ since i have to use a c++ dll from a delphi application. On function call returns an array of structs (or records in delphi), the first element of which is an enum. To make this work, I use packed records (or aligned(1)-structs). However, since delphi selects the size of an enum-variable dynamically by default and uses the smallest datatype possible (it was a byte in my case), but C++ uses an int for enums, my data was not interpreted correctly. Delphi offers a compiler switch to work around this, so the declaration of the enum becomes {$Z4} TTypeofLight = ( V3d_AMBIENT, V3d_DIRECTIONAL, V3d_POSITIONAL, V3d_SPOT ); {$Z1} My Questions are: What will become of my structs when they are compiled on/for a 64-bit environment? Does the default c++ integer grow to 8 Bytes? Are there other memory alignment / data type size modifications (other than pointers)?

  • Rails migrations: Undo default setting for a column

    - by wulfovitch
    Hi Stack Overflow Community! I have the problem, that I have an migration in Rails that sets up a default setting for a column, like this example: def self.up add_column :column_name, :bought_at, :datetime, :default => Time.now end Suppose, I like to drop that default settings in a later migration, how do I do that with using rails migrations? My current workaround is the execution of a custom sql command in the rails migration, like this: def self.up execute 'alter table column_name alter bought_at drop default' end But I don't like this approach, because I am now dependent on how the underlying database is interpreting this command. In case of a change of the database this query perhaps might not work anymore and the migration would be broken. So, is there a way to express the undo of a default setting for a column in rails? Thanks in advance!

  • Query multiple models with one value

    - by swoei
    I have multiple models which all have a FK to the same model. All I know is the FK how can I determine which of the models has the FK attached? Below an example to clearify: class ModelA(models.Model): title = models.CharField("title", max_length=80) class ModelB(models.Model): fk = models.ForeignKey(ModelA) class ModelC(models.Model): fk = models.ForeignKey(ModelA) How can I figure out without using a try/except on each model whether B or C has the FK? (The FK can only be in one of them, for the record in this case I only added two models but in the real world app there are multiple possible x amount of models which have the FK to modelA)

  • Preventing EF4 ConstraintException when invoking TryUpdateModel

    - by twk
    Given following ASP.NET MVC controller code: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Create(FormCollection collection) { string[] whitelist = new []{ "CompanyName", "Address1", "Address2", ... }; Partner newPartner = new Partner(); if (TryUpdateModel(newPartner, whitelist, collection)) { var db = new mainEntities(); db.Partners.AddObject(newPartner); db.SaveChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Details/" + newPartner.ID); } else { return View(); } } The problem is with the Entity Framework 4: the example Partner entity is mapped to a database table with it's fields NOT ALLOWED to be NULL (which is ok by design - they're required). Unfortunately, invoking TryUpdateModel when some of the properties are nulls produces ConstraintException which is not expected! I do expect that TryUpdateModel return false in this case. It is ok that EF wouldn't allow set a property value to null if it should not be, but the TryUpdateMethod should handle that, and add the error to ModelState errors collection. I am wrong, or somebody screwed the implementation of TryUpdateModel method?

  • IWebBrowser2: how to force links to open in new window?

    - by Rob McAfee
    The MSDN documentation on WebBrowser Customization explains how to prevent new windows from being opened and how to cancel navigation. In my case, my application is hosting an IWebBrowser2 but I don't want the user to navigate to new pages within my app. Instead, I'd like to open all links in a new IE window. The desired behavior is: user clicks a link, and a new window opens with that URL. A similar question was asked and answered here and rather than pollute that answered post, it was suggested I open a new discussion. The members on the related post suggested I should be able to do this by trapping DISPID_BEFORENAVIGATE2, setting the cancel flag, and writing code to open a new window, but I've found out that the browser control gets lots of BeforeNavigate2 events that seem to be initiated by scripts on the main page. For example, amazon.com fires BeforeNavigate2 events like crazy, and they are not a result of link invocation. Replies appreciated!

  • Easiest way to rename a model using Django/South?

    - by vaughnkoch
    Hi everyone, I've been hunting for an answer to this on South's site, google, and SO, but couldn't find a simple way to do this. I want to rename a Django model using South. Say you have the following: class Foo(models.Model): name = models.CharField() class FooTwo(models.Model): name = models.CharField() foo = models.ForeignKey(Foo) and you want to convert Foo to Bar, namely class Bar(models.Model): name = models.CharField() class FooTwo(models.Model): name = models.CharField() foo = models.ForeignKey(Bar) To keep it simple, I'm just trying to change the name from Foo to Bar, but ignore the 'foo' member in FooTwo for now. What's the easiest way to do this using South? a) I could probably do a data migration, but that seems pretty involved. b) Write a custom migration, e.g. db.rename_table('city_citystate', 'geo_citystate'), but I'm not sure how to fix the foreign key in this case. c) An easier way that you know? Thanks!

  • remove non-UTF-8 characters from xml with declared encoding=utf-8 - Java

    - by St Nietzke
    I have to handle this scenario in Java: I'm getting a request in XML form from a client with declared encoding=utf-8. Unfortunately it may contain not utf-8 characters and there is a requirement to remove these characters from the xml on my side (legacy). Let's consider an example where this invalid XML contains £ (pound). 1) I get xml as java String with £ in it (I don't have access to interface right now, but I probably get xml as a java String). Can I use replaceAll(£, "") to get rid of this character? Any potential issues? 2) I get xml as an array of bytes - how to handle this operation safely in that case?

  • setting a timeout for an InputStreamreader variable

    - by Noona
    I have a server running that accepts connections made through client sockets, I need to read the input from this client socket, now suppose the client opened a connection to my server without sending anything through the server's socket outputstream, in this case, while my server tried to read the input through the client socket's inputstream, an exception will be thrown, but before the exception is thrown i would like a timeout say of 5 sec, how can I do this? currently here's how my code looks like on the server side: try { InputStreamReader clientInputStream = new InputStreamReader(clientSocket.getInputStream()); int c; StringBuffer requestBuffer = new StringBuffer(); while ((c = clientInputStream.read()) != -1) { requestBuffer.append((char) c); if (requestBuffer.toString().endsWith(("\r\n\r\n"))) break; } request = new Request(requestBuffer.toString(), clientSocket); } catch (Exception e) // catch any possible exception in order to keep the thread running { try { if (clientSocket != null) clientSocket.close(); } catch (IOException ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } System.err.println(e); //e.printStackTrace(); }

  • typedef boost::shared_ptr<MyJob> Ptr; or #define Ptr boost::shared_ptr

    - by danio
    I've just started wrking on a new codebase where each class contains a shared_ptr typedef (similar to this) like: typedef boost::shared_ptr<MyClass> Ptr; Is the only purpose to save typing boost::shared_ptr? If that is the case why not do #define Ptr boost::shared_ptr in one common header? Then you can do: Ptr<MyClass> myClass(new MyClass); which is no more typing than MyClass::Ptr myClass(new MyClass); and saves the Ptr definition in each class.
