  • How to convert a DataTable to a string in C#?

    Hi there, I'm using Visual Studio 2005 and have a DataTable with two columns and some rows that I want to output to the console. I hoped there would be something like: DataTable results = MyMethod.GetResults(); Console.WriteLine (results.ToString()); What's the best way (i.e. least amount of coding from me) to convert a simple DataTable to a string? It is trivial to do for the oledb connection string as described here: MSDN Article on MSDASC.DataLinks().Prompt I've also found examples that use Microsoft.Data.ConnectionUI.dll and MicrosoftData.ConnectionUI.Dialog.dll from VS (HOWTO: Using the Choose Data Source dialog of Visual Studio 2005 from your own code). Unfortunately these DLLs are not licensed for redistribution. Is there a standard dialog for choosing a data source that can be distributed with my application?

    In all examples I can find as well as the automatically generated code i Visual Studio, events are set using the following code: button1.Click += new System.EventHandler(this.button1_Click); But I can also write it visually cleaner by omitting the constructor wrapper: button1.Click += this.button1_Click; Which also compile fine. What is the difference between these two? And why is the first one mostly used/preferred?

Integration with Visual Studio and/or resharper is a plus and I have nothing against easy setup or a pointer to a tutorial.   • How can I display different icons for same file extension

    Visual Studio has *.SLN files for 2008, and 2010. In explorer, the icon associated with the file is based on the version somehow. I was always under the impression that the associated icon just looked at the extension, but obviously there is more going on.     I want to use the foreach container to iterate through a folder matching something like: "Filename_MMYYYY.xls". That's easy enough to do; but I can't seem to find a way to parse the MMYYYY from the filename and add it to a variable (or something) that i can use as a lookup field for my DimDate table. It seems possible with a flat file data source, but not an excel connection. I'm using Visual Studio 2005. Please help!
