• How to find why NSMutableData is invalid

  I access a RESTFUL url and get back results. The results are in JSON. I turn the response into a string via: - (void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection { NSString *json = [[NSString alloc] initWithBytes:[self.receivedData mutableBytes] length:[self.receivedData length] encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; The json variable has a value of 0x0. When I mouse over it, I see <Invalid CFStringRef. How can I debug this to tell why it is invalid? I render the JSON given back through the browser in A JSON parser. That checks out fine. Results are given back by entering an ID in the URL. Other IDs return results without issue. The result set is fairly large.

  I'm calling a stored function like this: select XML_INVOICE.GENERATE_XML_DOC('84200006823') from dual; The query results then show up in a table underneath, which I can right click and select "Export Date" - XML <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF8' ?> <RESULTS> <ROW> <COLUMN NAME="XML_INVOICE.GENERATE_XML_DOC('84200006823')" <![CDATA[<xml>yada yada</xml><morexml>...]]></COLUMN> </ROW> </RESULTS> The problem is the "..." - SQL Developer (2.1.0.63 on Linux) is not showing all the data - its truncating the result and appending the ellipsis. This is of no use to me. How do I get it to export ALL of my data?

• How to stream a WAV file?

  I'm writing an app where I record audio and upload the audio file over the web. In order to speed up the upload I want to start uploading before I've finished recording. The file I'm creating is a WAV file. My plan was to use multiple data chunks. So instead of the normal encoding (RIFF, fmt , data) I’m using (RIFF, fmt , data, data, ..., data). The first issue is that the RIFF header wants the total length of the whole file, but that is of course not known when streaming the audio (I’m now using an arbitrary number). The other problem is that I'm not sure if it's valid since Audacity doesn't recognise the file, and Windows Media Player opens the file but plays only a very small part. I've been reading WAV specs but haven’t found an answer. Any suggestions?

• No download dialog with FileResult

  I am returning File result from action triggered by the form post event. I can't get download dialog. Instead, if I use: return File(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(reportPath), "text/plain", "Report.csv"); I get path to the file upon ajax execution in the target div. When I use return File(reportPath, "text/plain", "Report.csv"); I get content of the file in the target div. Any thoughts ?   Writing an iphone app, and I'm getting my data from a REST API that returns JSON. My problem is, some of the data has special characters embedded and Im getting errors. Example: MartÌn Petite-RiviËre-Saint-FranÁois Here is my current code: NSString *jsonString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:receivedData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSMutableArray *tempResults = [[[jsonString JSONValue] objectForKey:@"getRegionResortsLastUpdatedResponse"] objectForKey:@"return"]; Whenever the data has special characters in it "jsonString" return "(null)", otherwise everything works fine. Is this something I can handle on my end, or does the API need to be modified to output the character codes?

• How can I get Perl to detect the bad UTF-8 sequences?

  I'm running Perl 5.10.0 and Postgres 8.4.3, and strings into a database, which is behind a DBIx::Class. These strings should be in UTF-8, and therefore my database is running in UTF-8. Unfortunatly some of these strings are bad, containing malformed UTF-8, so when I run it I'm getting an exception DBI Exception: DBD::Pg::st execute failed: ERROR: invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8": 0xb5 I thought that I could simply ignore the invalid ones, and worry about the malformed UTF-8 later, so using this code, it should flag and ignore the bad titles. if(not utf8::valid($title)){ $title="Invalid UTF-8"; } $data->title($title); $data->update(); However Perl seems to think that the strings are valid, but it still throws the exceptions. How can I get Perl to detect the bad UTF-8?

• IE's responseXML.getElementsByTagName() unable to handle non English character ?

  I have a javascript that does this (http is your XMLHttpRequest object) var r = http.responseXML.getElementsByTagName('item'); The issue is variable r is always an empty list if the response contains non-English character (r.length is 0). The response header is correctly set Content-Type: text/xml;charset=ISO-8859-1 This is what the response from the webserver looks like <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> <d> <r> <item value="jmob" label="John Möb"/> </r> </d> It happens only in IE (both IE6 and IE8), works in Firefox and Chrome. If items contain only English characters, it works fine. Is there a workaround for this ?

  Hello, I'm no expert in regex but I need to parse some input I have no control over, and make sure I filter away any strings that don't have A-z and/or 0-9. When I run this, Pattern p = Pattern.compile("^[a-zA-Z0-9]*$"); //fixed typo if(!p.matcher(gottenData).matches()) System.out.println(someData); //someData contains gottenData certain spaces + an unknown symbol somehow slip through the filter (gottenData is the red rectangle): In case you're wondering, it DOES also display Text, it's not all like that. For now, I don't mind the [?] as long as it also contains some string along with it. Please help. [EDIT] as far as I can tell from the (very large) input, the [?]'s are either white spaces either nothing at all; maybe there's some sort of encoding issue, also perhaps something to do with #text nodes (input is xml)

• How to save an image in it's original format?

  I am trying to figure out how I can get the original format of an image so that I can store it with the same encoding. It seems that the only way to save an Image is by using a BitmapEncoder but I don't know how I can get the correct format from the image. Example: Clipboard.GetImage() returns a InteropBitmap which doesn't seem to contain any information about the original format. • Is it possible to dither a gradient drawable?

  I'm using the following drawable: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:shape="rectangle" > <gradient android:startColor="@color/content_background_gradient_start" android:endColor="@color/content_background_gradient_end" android:angle="270" /> </shape> The problem is that I get severe banding on hdpi devices (like the Nexus One and Droid) since the gradient goes from the top of the screen to the very bottom. According to http://idunnolol.com/android/drawables.html#shape_gradient there isn't a "dither" attribute for a gradient. Is there anything I can do to smooth the gradient?

• How to receive HTTP messages using Socket

  I'm using Socket class for my web client. I can't use HttpWebRequest since it doesn't support socks proxies. So I have to parse headers and handle chunked encoding by myself. The most difficult thing is to determine length of content so I have to read it byte-by-byte. First I have to use ReadByte() to find last header ("\r\n\r\n" combination), then read chunk's size etc. But this approach has very poor performance. Can you suggest better solution? Maybe some open source examples or libraries that handle http request through sockets (not very big and complicated though, I'm a noob)

• Using 'Copy as cURL' from Chrome in windows command line

  So, Google Chrome as this great 'copy as cURL' option under 'Network' of the Chrome DevTools. Works great in command lines for linux but not in windows. Apparently it has something to do with the single quotes as the error I get is protocol 'http not supported In other words its reading that single quote. Is there a simple way to make this formatable for windows? I tried replacing all the single quotes with double quotes but then nothing happens at all. • Can a regex return a match that's not a part of the original string?

  I'm using an application that requires me to provide a regex for various files. It uses the matches from the regex to uniquely identify each file and then use a data store to retrieve metadata about these files. there is however a problem with the application, so it assumes that the data which is used to identify each file is only numeric data. Hence, it stores the results of matches in integers. I control the data store but not the names of the files. Since the application has a bug in it, I was hoping that I could use an encoding scheme to convert the non-numeric data to an integer. But for that I'd require the regex to return something that's not part of the original string as a match. Is this possible?
