• Does Asus F8SV supports 1920*1080 resolution through DVI output? [closed]

  Devices: Asus F8Sv Laptop (Windows 7 ultimate, GeForce 8600m GT, display driver is 301.42, detected and downloaded from nvidia.com, VGA and DVI output interface) Gateway 23 inches LCD monitor (VGA, DVI-D with HDCP, and HDMI input) 18 pins DVI cable, VGA cable, both new. Problems: When connect laptop to monitor by VGA, resolution is automatically adapted to 1920*1080; but when using DVI connection, resolution on monitor is fixed to 1024*768, which is lower than my laptop default 1280*800. The maximum resolution in windows control panel is only 1024*768, while the Nvidia control panel provides options 1920*1080p and 1920*1080i, but clicking apply button does not work, the resolution just can not change. Possibly reason I guess: GeForce 8600m GT does not support 1920*1080 resolution through DVI outputs. Can anyone confirm it or give the real reason? edit: Problem solved by buying a HDMI to DVI-D adapter. Using this adapter and a HDMI cable, I can now enjoy 1080p movie.

  I am a programmer and I have never really dealt with the hardware of anything, only software. I want to start building things that I can control from my computer using programming. My question is are there such devices on the market that have a programmable interface or API? For example, I want to build an automated window blinds opening/closing device, and I would like to be able to control it from my computer e.g. writing an app or some code to schedule them when to open and close. I would like to know if there are any devices that can be programmed to do that (the computer part)?

  I need to reset my password. I have followed these steps: How do I reset a lost Administrative(root) password? However, then I go to "root" or "netroot" recovery options, it tells me: Give root password for maintenance (or type Control-D to continue) Clearly, I do not know the root password. If I type Control-D, I return to the list of options. From this page I read: Under chapter 'The Other Way': 4. Highlight the line that begins kernel and press 'e' to edit But in the grub configuration file I have no line that starts with 'kernel'. Only: setparams 'Ubuntu...' recordfail set gxfpayload... insmod part_msdos insmod ext2 set root=... search --no-floppy... linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38... initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.... Those are all lines in my grub. Which line should I edit? Or is there another way to reset my password?

• Migrating Split Access Database from one domain to another (not working, details in Q)

  Some background: I'm a programmer, not a network administrator, who has been asked to migrate some accounting software (Integrated Office Accounting version 3.2) from an existing domain (OLD_NETWORK) to a new domain (NEW_NETWORK). No-body at the office knows how it works under the hood. It is a split Access 2000 database with the back-end shared and on a file server (which is also the DC) using mapped drives. The DC is NT Server 4 SP 6. The new server is server 2003. The two networks are running independently (ie: two computers on each desk). I have been able to get new computers set up on NEW_NETWORK and working with the IOA software just perfectly but for one problem: The company here uses other entirely separate databases which access the tables IOA maintains (specifically the 'customers' table) via links. To switch between these systems, you press F11 then File-Open the appropriate database and away you go (this is necessary to maintain the permissions that the IOA system uses to protect the customers table). The entire database is Access 2000, the links go to other Access databases, SQL-Server is not involved in any way, nor is a migration to SQL server likely. If I can't migrate anything over, everything will stay as it is, and the NEW_NETWORK computers will not be used. The problem: When I try and update these seperate databases (I shall call one "BANK_ACCOUNT", but the name does not matter), it says "this recordset cannot be updated". It also will sometimes not pull information out of the 'customers' table (ie: date_entered) when looking at a report of everyone who opened a bank account on a certain day (ie: today). I have tried: Giving 'everyone' full control via. shared directory permissions Giving 'everyone' full control on a file system level Checking the permissions within Access (everyone has full read/write on all tables) Copying the entire server contents from one file server to another (ie: xcopy everything) Copying the entire local client files from one computer to another, putting them in the exact same position in the file system, with the same permissons (or full control to 'everyone'). Running as an Administrator Taking one of the NEW_NETWORK computers, having it join OLD_NETWORK and run the software (direct copy from a working system with identical drive mappings), this did not work Weeping openly My Question: Is there anything else I can try? (sorry for this being so long)

• 12.10 Quantal display issues using nvidiaXineramaInfoOverride

  After updating to 12.10 today, my xorg.conf doesn't seem to be respected by Quantal. Not sure if this is a 'bug' or whether it's just an adjustment I have to make due to changes in the OS. When logging in, it seems Ubuntu is now recognizing only one 3840x1080 screen named "Matrox" and maximizing windows spans them across both screens. In 12.04, this configuration file successfully allowed me to override the data provided by my TripleHead2Go and maximize windows to a single monitor. Any ideas or where to start on trying to debug this? • What language and tools can I use to create a simple game with child-lock (capture all key press) for Windows? [closed]

  I'm writing an open source program that changes colors & plays sounds when keys are pressed. I want it to run in full screen mode and have a child-lock so kids can't exit accidentally. I want it to capture all keys including ctrl alt delete. (So it's partially a game, but partially windows utility.) My target OS is Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit), keeping Windows 8 in mind. My options: Visual Studio using .net C# Windows Forms - the devil I know. But not a "game" platform, which is why I'm asking this question. Visual Studio & XNA - have never used XNA, not sure of capabilities or support future Python - What flavor, what modules, what IDE? I've never done anything with Python but I found a couple of similar open source projects in python. Something else that I don't know about? Any input is appreciated.

• Partial Trust in WPF 4

  I've started a new project in WPF 4 (.NET 4) and trying to see if I can run it in xbap mode. I need to run the application in Full Trust with the new mode made available in .NET 4 which asks the end user if the full trust application should be run. • Get information about AutocompleteTextView from resulting AutoCompleteTextView$DropDownListView

  I'm using 3 AutocompleteTextViews to suggest entries from a database. I subclassed AutocompleteTextView to handle setting the default text to null when clicked and setting back to the default instructions if moved away and nothing is entered. I was using a SimpleCursorAdapter to bind to the view, but I discovered that there was no way I could get the id of the AutocompleteTextView from an OnItemClickListener, which I needed to put additional information from the selected row in a variable depending on which AutocompleteTextView it was from. All I could access was the AutoCompleteTextView$DropDownListView, which is an undocumented inner class that appears to offer no real functionality. Neither was there a way to go up the view hierarchy to get the original AutocompleteTextView. So I subclassed SimpleCursorAdapter and added an int to the constructor to identify which AutocompleteTextView the adapter was from, and I was able to access this from the view passed into OnItemClick(). So, although my solution works fine, I wonder if it is possible to get the id of an AutocompleteTextView from its DropDownListView? I am also using another database query which gets the id from the OnItemClick and then looks up the data for that item, because I couldn't find a way of converting more than one column to a string. Should I be using CursorAdapter for this, to save initiating another query? Oh, and another thing, do I need a database cursor initially (all_cursor) when all I'm doing is filtering on it to get a new cursor? Seems like overkill. • Hosting Mercurial on IIS7

  Note, this might perhaps be best suited on serverfault.com, but since it is about hosting a programmer source code repository, I am not entirely sure. I'm posting here first, trusting that it'll be migrated if necessary. I'm attempting to host clones of my Mercurial repositories on my own server (I have the main repo somewhere else), and I'm attempting to set up Mercurial under IIS. I followed the guide here, but I get an error message. Solved: See bottom of this question for details. The error message is: mercurial.error.RepoError: repository /path/to/repo/or/config not found Here's what I did. I installed Mercurial 1.5.2 I created c:\inetpub\hg I downloaded the hg source as per the instructions of the webpage, and copied the hgweb.cgi file into c:\inetpub\hg (note, the webpage says hgwebdir.cgi, but this particular file does not exist, hgweb.cgi does, however, can this be the source of the problem?) I added a hgweb.config, with the following contents: [paths] repo1 = C:/hg/** [web] style = monoblue I created c:\hg, created a sub-directory test, and created a repository inside it I installed python 2.6.5, latest 2.6 version from the website (the webpage mentions I need to install the correct version or I'll get a specific error message, since I don't get an error message that looks remotely like the one mentioned, I assume that 2.6.5 is not the problem) I added a new virtual host hg.vkarlsen.no, pointing it to c:\inetpub\hg For this host, I added a script mapping under the Handler Mappings section, mapping *.cgi to c:\python26\python.exe -u %s %s as per the instructions on the website. I then tested it by navigating to http://hg.vkarlsen.no/hgweb.cgi, but I get an error message. If I change the line to this: config = "c:\\hg\\test" Then I can navigate the empty repository through the Mercurial web interface. However, I want to host multiple repositories, and seeing as the line says that I can also link to a hgweb config file, I tried this: config = "c:\\inetpub\\hg\\hgweb.config" But then I get the following error message: mercurial.error.Abort: c:\inetpub\hg\hgweb.config: not a Mercurial bundle file Exception ImportError: 'No module named shutil' in <bound method bundlerepository.__del__ of <mercurial.bundlerepo.bundlerepository object at 0x0260A110>> ignored Nothing I've tried for the config variable seems to work: config = "hgweb.config" config = "c:\\hg\\hgweb.config" various other variations I don't remember. So, still stumped, pointers anyone? Solved: I ended up having to edit the hgweb.cgi file: from: from mercurial.hgweb import hgweb, wsgicgi application = hgweb(config) to: from mercurial.hgweb import hgweb, hgwebdir, wsgicgi application = hgwebdir(config) Note the added hgwebdir parts there. Here's my hgweb.config file, located in the same directory as hgweb.cgi file: [collections] C:/hg/ = C:/hg/ [web] style = gitweb This now serves my repositories successfully. • Samplegrabber works fine on AVI/MPEG files but choppy with WMV

  I have been using the latest version of the WPFMediaKit. What I am trying to do is write a sample application that will use the Samplegrabber to capture the video frames of video files so I can have them as individual Bitmaps. So far, I have had good luck with the following code when constructing and rendering my graph. However, when I use this code to play back a .wmv video file, when the samplegrabber is attached, it will play back jumpy or choppy. If I comment out the line where I add the samplegrabber filter, it works fine. Also, I have gotten it to work correctly when I comment out the IBaseFilter renderer = CreateVideoMixingRenderer9(m_graph, 1); line and have filterGraph.Render(pins[0]); -- the only drawback is that now it renders in an Activemovie widow of its own instead of my control, however the samplegrabber functions correctly and without any skipping. So I am thinking the bug is in the VMR9 / samplegrabbing somewhere. Any help? I am new to this.

• How can you connect OpenGrok to a SVN repository?

  I was able to install and use opengrok on WinXP using this blog entry http://theflashesofinsight.wordpress.com/2009/05/11/install-opengrok-on-windows/ I now want to index a subversion repository. I checked out a repository to the source folder and can search the files. However the links for history and annotate are not active. I have svn installed and indexing the directory give no warnings or errors. (There was an error when I didnt have the SVN client installed) Is there some configuration needed? I saw this link http://blogs.sun.com/trond/entry/using_subversion_with_opengrok but it did not give me any clue. • Cocoa QuickLook initiated by NSTableView Cell

  I have an NSTableView that contains 2 different Columns - one is an NSImageCell that shows a file icon, and the second is a custom subclass of NSTextFieldCell that contains a quick look button on the right of the text. When I click the Quick Look button, the following code is invoked: [[QLPreviewPanel sharedPreviewPanel] makeKeyAndOrderFront:nil]; This does it's job and shows the blank Quick Look panel saying "No Items Selected." After I did a bit of research on the internet, I implemented a custom NSTableView subclass to be the Delegate and Data Source for the Quick Look panel. I get the notification that Quick Look asks if I want to be the delegate, and I respond with return YES. • Python RSS Feeder + Jquery RSS Reader

  I'm trying to implement an RSS Feeder in python using PyRSS2Gen and it created an XML file. Now in jQuery I'm using Google Ajax API's RSS reader and trying to read it. I get an error saying something is wrong. I'm unable to figure out the issue. I've checked some documentation but not able to get it.
