• .NET 3.5 SP1 Code from Network - "The system cannot find the file specified."

  This issue has nothing to do with whether the assemblies have been signed or caspol has been run for the shared network folder. Apparently, the location of the files is the issue, but I cannot find what the real problem is. I have one executable that references 5 dll's. I can run the app from a local drive without any problem. When I run the app from a network share, I get an error stating that "Could not load file or assembly 'homer, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified." If all the files are in the same folder, what is the error really telling me? I should note also that the framework used is 3.5 SP1, which does not require changing code access policy. I had tried that anyhow, and I received the same error in both cases. Thanks, DaMoose

• VS 2010 Entity Repository Error

  In my project I have it set up so that all the tables in the DB has the property "id" and then I have the entity objects inherit from the EntityBase class using a repository pattern. I then set the inheritance modifier for "id" property in the dbml file o/r designer to "overrides" Public MustInherit Class EntityBase MustOverride Property id() As Integer End Class Public MustInherit Class RepositoryBase(Of T As EntityBase) Protected _Db As New DataClasses1DataContext Public Function GetById(ByVal Id As Integer) As T Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault End Function End Class Partial Public Class Entity1 Inherits EntityBase End Class Public Class TestRepository Inherits RepositoryBase(Of Entity1) End Class the line Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault however produces the error "Class member EntityBase.id is unmapped" when i use VS 2010 using the 4.0 framework but I never received that error with the old one. • Are frameworks really necessary for beginners/intermediates? (PHP)

  I have been programming for around 6months and currently learning PHP/Mysql. I can create basic functionally sites starting from a plain sheet of paper. Is it necessary I use frameworks to create sites? Currently, everything I do is from scratch. I'll borrow codes from old codes, ask people for help, etc. Are frameworks going to help me much more? Is it alright if I put a site public without using a framework? (I have not looked a lot into frameworks, so my knowledge is limited, but I'm just curious)

• Error 2908 when installing assemblies into GAC

  Hi, I'm receiving 2908 (0x80131047: The given assembly name or code-base is invalid) error when running my MSI package. The problem occures when the MSI tries to deploy a component with .NET assembly into a GAC. NOTE: only assemblies with dependencies fail. The MSI is created with IS 2010. I am able to deploy the assembly manually with GACUTIL. I verified .NET Framework (all versions upto 3,5)is installed. I verified assembly properties are identical with MsiAssemblyName table properties. However, somehow I had made the installation working fine before. But when the product was moved to Visual Studio 2008 and .NET 3.0 I started facing the problem. Do you guys have any thought on this. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks much!

• How will ASP.NET AJAX be licensed?

  It would be very useful if somebody could indicate what the plans are for releasing and licensing the AJAX extensions. The EULA for Beta 2 states that the software may be used for development and for web site deployment only. Redistribution is explicitly forbidden. Does that imply that it is going to be released under terms different from the .NET framework and ASP.NET or is it just a precaution to prevent developers shipping the Beta? It seems too risky to include AJAX in new products before there is some indication what the model is going to be....

• Symfony: Pre filtering submitted values before/after validation

  Hi All I've been scouring the net and i have found nothing! I am using symfonys form framework to build a simple 'Create' form. Validation is fine. However i'd like to pre-filter my submitted values, so adding ucfirst, strtoupper, and the like. I'm not sure if im missing something crucial here, but the way i see it is the only way to do this would be to create my own custom validators and utilizing the doClean method, which seems daft since i'd have hundreds of validators for each php function! Hope you guys can help, i've been crawling through source code, api's, numerous books and blogs and i haven't found a thing :( Either it's impossible, or it's really easy, i hope its the latter!

• iPhone audio Filter Question

  Okay, I am going to try to make this totally not a "plz send teh codez kthxbai" I am considering an app which takes sound (eventually an audio track) and applies an audio filter to it. So I can play sounds with AudioServicesPlaySystemSound via AudioToolbox framework just fine. What I need is a very simple example of how I might take a sound and apply (for instance) midrange boost etc. Actually the kind of alteration is irrelevant -- if I can get my head around how the alteration is done I can figure out the rest. I am just finding both docs and examples of altering audio in code to be very scarce. Thanks for any help!

  Hello. I'm PHP-programmer, but I'm extremely interested in learning Java. So I decided to change speciality from PHP to Java. At the moment I have an opportunity to try to make quite simple web-application (it should contain 2-3 forms, several pages with information from the database and authorization module) and also I have a chance to choose any technology I want. Besides I have about 3 months for this task. I've decided to develop site with Java technologies for the purpose of studying. I've already read a book about Java ("Java2 Complete Reference" by P.Naughton) and currently I'm reading "Thinking in Java" by B.Eckel. I clearly understand it's not enough for efficient development, but I want, at least, to try. I would be very appreciated for the advises, which framework (for example) or technology to choose (Spring, Grails etc.) and what primary aspects and technologies of Java should I pay attention to? • Are there any medium-sized web applications built with CGI::Application that are open-sourced?

  I learn best by taking apart something that already does something and figuring out why decisions were made in which manner. Recently I've started working with Perl's CGI::Application framework, but found i don't really get along well with the documentation (too little information on how to best structure an application with it). There are some examples of small applications on the cgi-app website, but they're mostly structured such that they demonstrate a small feature, but contain mostly of code that one would never actually use in production. Other examples are massively huge and would require way too much time to dig through. And most of them are just stuff that runs on cgiapp, but isn't open source. As such I am looking for something that has most base functionality like user logins, db access, some processing, etc.; is actually used for something but not so big that it would take hours to even set them up. Does something like that exist or am i out of luck?

• Two differents FOSUser in application

  I face a problem with FOSUserBundle. In my Symfony2 application, I want to implement two differents User. I have one entity User, for basic user, and one entity UserPro with more informations. My problem is that I want to configure my bundle with this two entities: fos_user: db_driver:     orm firewall_name: main user_class:    Btp\UserBundle\Entity\User fos_userpro: db_driver:     orm firewall_name: pro user_class:    Btp\UserProBundle\Entity\UserPro And so, use fos_user and fos_userpro as provider in my security.yml. I'm no sure it's be possible. I obtain an error : There is no extension able to load the configuration for "fos_userpro" (in /..../app/config/config.yml). Looked for namespace "fos_userpro", found "framework", "security", ... And when I take a look in FOSUserBundle files, I feel that fos_user is not a configuration variable and is directly written in strings. Thanks.

• Workaround for UnsupportedAudioFileException ?

  I'm in a very early stage of writing a small music/rhythm game in Java (via Slick framework, which in turns uses OpenAL, but that's probably irrelevant here). The game needs to read (and playback) several sound files in WAV format, but some of the files are throwing [javax.sound.sampled.UnsupportedAudioFileException] exceptions. at javax.sound.sampled.AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(AudioSystem.java:1102) at org.newdawn.slick.openal.WaveData.create(WaveData.java:123) at org.newdawn.slick.openal.SoundStore.getWAV(SoundStore.java:713) at org.newdawn.slick.openal.SoundStore.getWAV(SoundStore.java:683) at org.newdawn.slick.Sound.<init>(Sound.java:33) The files can be played back just fine in Winamp or Foobar2000, so this means Java just don't recognize some variants of the file format. What are my options at this point? Note: The files in question are user-supplied, so i cannot just convert them beforehand (using something like audacity). Any conversion steps must be done at runtime.

  Hello Im building a new version of an iPhone application and Im wondering if I should review how my app communicates with the server. My iPhone client sends and receives XML over HTTP requests. To send the information I use ASIHTTPRequest framework. I "manually" build the XML request by appending strings. To parse the response Im using a NSXMLParser. My question is if I have better options to A) Create an XML string from a memory object. B) Create a memory object from the XML string. Is there anything like JAXB to marshal XML into object? • Need help recovering a corrupt SQL database

  I have a very special case that I have been working on for several days. I have a very large SQL Server 2008 database (about 2 TB) that contains 500 filegroups to support very large partitioned tables. Recently we had a catastophic failure on one of the drive and lost several filegroups and the database became in-accessible. We have been doing filegroup backups on a daily basis, but due to other issues, we lost our most recent backup of the log and the primary filegroup. We have all the data backed up but the primary filegroup backup is old. There have been no schema changes since the primary filegroup backup, but the lsn's are now all out of sync and we cannot recover the data. I have tried everything I could think of (and have tried just about every trick and hack I could google) but I still end up at the same point where I get messages saying that the files for filegroup x do not match the primary filegroup. I am now at the point of trying to edit the system tables (we have a separate temporary environment to do this so we are not worried about corrupting any production databases). I have tried updated sys.sysdbreg, sys.sysbrickfiles, and sys.sysprufiles to try to trick SQL into thinking all the files are online, but a "Select * From OPENROWSET(TABLE DBPROP, 5)" shows a different database state from what I see in sys.sysdbreg. I am now thinking I need to somehow edit the headers of the actual data files to try to line up the lsn's with the primary. I appreciate any help anyone can give me here, but please do not respond with things like "you are not supposed to do edit mdf, ndf files...." or "see msdn article....", etc. This is an advanced emergency case and I need a real hack so we can just get to the data in this corrupt database and export to a fresh new database. I know there is a way to do this, but not knowing what the DBPROP system functions does (i.e. does it look at system tables or does it actually open the file) is keeping me from trying to figure out how to fool SQL into allowing me to read these files.   Hello, I have to write a javascript function that is returning the current size (in px) of a div. Unfortunately the div has its weight specified in % instead of px. The style of the div: position: absolute; width: 100%; height: 100%; And my width returning function: function getTableWidth(tableId){ var tabWidth = document.getElementById('pt1::tabb').children[0].children[0].style.width; return tabWidth; } tabWidth is '100%'. Is it possible to return the px width instead of the % width ? NOTE: I don't have access to any html/css , as the page I am working on is generated through a complex framework. I can only embed javascript.

• How easy would it be to refactor a small JSP/Servlet/JDBC project to SpringMVC/Hibernate

  With reference to this post, I am considering starting a new web-based Java project. Since I don't know Spring/Hibernate I was concerned if it's a bad plan to start learning them while creating a new project, especially since it will slow down the early development. One idea I had was to write a prototype using tech I do know, namely JSP/Servlets/JDBC, since I can get this running much quicker with my current knowledge. I could then throw the whole thing away and start over with Spring, etc, but I'd like to consider how easy it would be to refactor a smallish project from JSP/Servlets/JDB to SpringMVC/Hibernate? My DB could of course be re-used but what about other code... would I expect to save most of it plugged into an MVC framework, or is the paradigm shift big enough this would cause more trouble than it avoids? Please use the other question for more general advice on choosing technologies

• Successfully concatenating multiple videos

  My mission is to create videos out of old web slideshows. To start with I have jpegs and audio files that worked as Flash slideshows in an old system, structured such as this: Audio structure my_audio_1.mp3 (this file is a 3 second mp3 of silence) my_audio_2.mp3 my_audio_3.mp3 my_audio_4 etc... roughly 30 mp3s per slideshow Image structure my_image_1.jpg (this acts as the opening slide) my_image_2.jpg my_image_3.jpg my_image_4. etc... roughly 30 images per slideshow. As there are almost 100 slideshows that must be converted to video, I have created a web-based interface using PHP to automate the process, that sits on a local system and attempts to combine the files using shell_exec(). The process uses the following workflow: Loop through each slide and make an avi or mpeg. So for instance my_mini_video_2.avi would be a video that consists of my_image_2.jpg and has a soundtrack of my_audio_2.mp3. This slide would last the length of my_audio_2.mp3. Join / stitch / concat all of the mini videos to create the final video (Using a combination of cat and either mencoder or ffmpeg (I have also tried avimerge but to no avail). Transcode the new 'master' video to various formats such as flv etc. I thought this would be simple and have been close on many occasions but it still won't work. I can't get past stage 2 as I can't get a perfect 'master' video. I have now experimented with Mencoder, FFMpeg and seem to have been through every combination I can think of. The problem is that the audio and visuals never sync, no matter what I try. Also, I have even tried created audio-less mini videos, joining the MP3s into one long MP3 using both cat and mp3wrap and then assigning the new long MP3 as the audio track, but this always produces either a very short file or a badly slowed down file and makes the female voiceover sound like a male boxer!!! There appears to be no problems at all with the original files. Does anybody have any experience in producing a video successfully from the same kind of starting point? Or any ideas on what I may be doing wrong? As an example: If I create silent mini-videos, and stitch them together into 'temp-master.mpg' and then join the MP3s together into single MP3 called 'temp-master-audio.mp3', the audio file's duration is 09:10 and the video file's duration is 08:35. They should be the same and the audio will seem sloooow. I haven't posted code as I have written lots and lots of combinations.

  Hi, Does anyone know of a C-based open source class / framework which can generate a random jigsaw puzzle from an image or generate a random puzzle template which could then be applied to an image? The puzzle pieces must have male and female notches/holes. There should be more than one template so that the puzzle does not become too easy. The target system is iOS / Mac. If not, how would you approach this problem? The puzzle pieces should be as close to a real jigsaw piece shape as possible and the system must be dynamic so that the user can use their own photos or download photos. thanks!

• 2 (or more) ComboBoxes dependent on each other

  Hi, I have an Organisation entity and a Region entity. An object of type Organisation can have one or more Region objects connected to it, thus I have a foreign key in my Region entity to the Organisation Entity. The Organisation and Region objects are pulled from my database using WCF RIA and entity framework. I want to put the Organisation objects in one ComboBox and the Region objects in another ComboBox, and when selecting an organsation having the ComboBox for Region objects automatically only showing regions that are connected to the selected organisation. Should be pretty basic, but the way I've designed it right now it doesnt work at all. So, any hint to how I can achive this? A simple simple codeexample is much appreciated! (I'm using SL4,WCF RIA MVVM)

• Web service URL being overwritten with localhost

  I have a reference to a web service on a remote server like such... http://10.5.1.121/PersonifyWebServicePPROD/UniversalWebService/default.wsdl The moment I invoke the web service and view its URL property it looks like... http://localhost/PersonifyWebServicePPROD/UniversalWebService/default.asmx Can anyone tell me why it's overwriting the remote server with localhost? The vendor that provided the web service said I have to reference the wsdl and not the asmx in order for it to work. I've tried running it both within IIS and as a web app on the filesystem and neither scenario work. This is on the .Net 3.5 framework.

• Rotate view of PDF on a WinForm

  I have to display a PDF inside a winform (c# on .net 2.0 framework). For now, I am using the ActiveX PDF control provided by Adobe. I have to disable the entire control so that a user can't print or save via right-click or hotkeys. Unfortunately, many of the documents need to be rotated (just viewed, not permanently saved that way). I'd like to allow them to rotate the view by pressing a button control. I've tried enabling the control then programmatically sending the hotkeys (ctrl shift +) using SendKeys and SendInput but the timing issues make this a non-viable solution. I've asked on the proper Adobe boards and they said it was not possible being that all of my clients will only have the reader version installed.

• sql boolean truth test: zero OR null

  Is there way to test for both 0 and NULL with one equality operator? I realize I could do this: WHERE field = 0 OR field IS NULL But my life would be a hundred times easier if this would work: WHERE field IN (0, NULL) (btw, why doesn't that work?) I've also read about converting NULL to 0 in the SELECT statement (with COALESCE). The framework I'm using would also make this unpleasant. Realize this is oddly specific, but is there any way to test for 0 and NULL with one WHERE predicate?
