  • Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard: Locks MS Office files, but not Adobe .AI and .PSD files?

    We have some shares setup on a Windows 2003 R2 server, and the MS Office files people save behave properly: The first person to open the file gets read/write, and the second person to open the file while the first person still has the file open, gets a read-only version. This is not true for the graphics files, like Adobe Illustrator .AI files, and Photoshop .PSD files. Anyone who goes to open these files has full read/write, even if someone else is already working on the file! This has lead to numerous file corruption issues, as well as other lost work, since it always saves the last changes to the file. How do we get Windows to properly lock these files so when someone is working on a file, and someone else wants to open one, they get read-only access? Many thanks, Bruce

    In what platforms/browsers does Adobe Flash come preinstalled? I'm pretty sure neither FireFox nor Safari include it on any platform but Chrome on Windows does (not sure about Mac or Linux). What about IE on a completely vanilla Win XP system? Or Win 7? Maybe mfgs like Dell add it if MS doesn't? Perhaps we can find (or build) a comprehensive list. Considering that Flash is a significant piece of the web platform, I hope I've asked this on the right place.

  • Easiest way to implement RSS reader on Google Android?

    Hi guys, This is my first time on stack overflow, so I apologize if this question has been asked before, but is there an easy way to implement an RSS reader on the Google Android (API 1.5)? I'm searched far and wide with the code sources I know of, and I've only found one implementation which takes 6 different classes and doesn't seem to compile on the current Android SDK's. If I end up having to write my own, I'll be sure to post it here later on. Thanks a lot.

  • Can I integrate many sources into one RSS reader?

    I'm looking to integrate a bunch of RSS/ATOM sources into a feed for our intranet. This is outside my usual realm of work so I've had very limited exposure to this. I'd like to integrate all the feeds into a single reader such that all the news items are in chronological release order. Is this doable? Do I need a special component? Or can I make the ASP.NET integrated components do all this simply enough?

    When I write something like this: using (var connection = new SqlConnection("ConnectionString")) { using(var cmd= new SqlCommand("Command")) { using (var reader = cmd.ExecuteReader()) { while (reader.Read()) { } } } } ReSharper shows warning on reader.Read(), and tells that reader can be null. But in what cases can it be null? As I know if command returns nothing reader is not null, it only have nothing.

  • How do I read live camera data on the iPhone (like Microsoft Tag Reader)?

    While the user is still in UIImagePickerController, I'd like to be able to get a UIImage representation of the image in the camera, make some changes to the image, and then display the altered image instead of the image coming directly from the camera. How can I do this? I tried setting a timer and calling takePicture, but calling it seemed to have no effect. The documentation says: Calling this method while an image is being captured has no effect. You must wait until the associated delegate object receives an imagePickerController:didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo: message before you can capture another picture. So how can I do this? I know that it's possible, since apps like Tag Reader are able to detect when something specific rolls in front of the camera. Thanks!

  • Can review changes in Acrobat Reader (Pro, or not) be 'applied' to a PDF?

    Hi there, As part of an enhancement to my workplace processes, we're trying to streamline review of various documents. Yeah, there's way better alternatives to what I'm about to suggest, but the reality is that I have no time allocated to investigate things like DAV, repo setups and such. What I do have time allocated for is improving workflow around tools we already use. So I tried to work through the Adobe PDF collaborative review cycle. I have to say it was pretty amazing, from the notify toolbar icon to doc merging, to user access control. They offer it all, EXCEPT the ability to actually apply review changes to a PDF!?! To clarify, after sending a PDF through the collab review cycle (involving a bunch for external editors and internal staff) the end result was a PDF full of rich feedback - but I can see no way to finalised and apply those 'accepted' review points to the PDF in question. I hope this is clear enough, feel free to ask questions to clarify - perhaps I'm just missing something obvious, but perhaps applying changes to an already existing PDF is not possible? -d

  • Why Does DreamWeaver CS5 Discriminate between File Extensions, Even After Modding Mime Types!?

    Hi folks, Even After I forced DreamWeaver CS5 to allow opening of .ast extensions as a MIME type of php5, which DreamWeaver now opens and colors correctly as described here, I still have trouble figuring out why it still discriminates between the two file extensions! Symptoms: External Files & Design View I have a file foo.php which php includes other files (e.g. the php-combined css.php and js.php). Now, when opening foo.php all functions work perfectly: the external (included) php files are all recognised correctly. However, when I change foo.php foo.ast, and open it again, It does not recognise the files extensions anymore in the top bar. Also, I lose the Design / Live View functionality.** When I change foo.ast to foo.php, all works again! Anyone any clues of why there remains a a difference between one and other extension? Note1: I have added the .ast extension to these four files, next to .php: 1 C:\Users\Sam\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS5\configuration\DocumentTypes\MMDocumentTypes.xml 2 C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS5\configuration\DocumentTypes\MMDocumentTypes.xml 3 C:\Users\Sam\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS5\en_US\Configuration\Extensions.txt 4 C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS5\configuration\Extensions.txt Note2: sometimes, even .php files do not want to show in design view or live view.     I'm looking to figure out the best way to execute a database query using the least amount of boilerplate code. Can this be reduced further? In particular, I'd like to do something about the first two lines of the procedure. I don't feel like the method should be in charge of creating the SqlCommand. It's a tiny piece of repetition as it is in the example, but it seems to grow if transactions are being managed manually or timeouts are being altered or anything like that.

However the return function isn't working, I know the query brings back rows but when it is returned by the class it has 0.     I want to convert HTML to PDF on an iOS Device... ...but I dont want to load my HTML in a UIWebView, take a snapshot and generate an ugly PDF from this snapshot picture...because the text must be selectable for my purpose. I wonder how Apps like Save2PDF or Adobe® CreatePDF are able to converting multiple files into PDF and save them. I guess they don't generate the PDF's by their own, but get them from Apples Printing Framework. How does this Apps work?

    I'm trying to export 2 values from every single item from the combo box field. I have found two methods to insert items into a combo box: 1) insertItemAt http://www.verypdf.com/document/acrobat-forms-javascript/pg_0048.htm 2) setItems http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9/Acrobat9_HTMLHelp/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=Acrobat9_HTMLHelp&file=JS_API_AcroJS.88.748.html but neither method allows two parameters (im always get "missing ) after argument list" error from the Acrobat JavaScript Debugger) Does anyone know of a better solution for this problem?
