    I'm trying in an asp web application to code a function that would loop through a list of files in a multiple upload form and send them one by one. Is this something that can be done in ASP? Because I've read some posts about how to attach several files together, but saw nothing about looping through the files.   • zeroing a disk with dd vs Disk Utility

    I'm attempting to zero a disk on my Mac OS X machine. I'm going for complete zeros and unformatted, so I think of dd. Unfortunately the maximum throughput I've managed to get out of dd is 7MB/s. Just for grins I tried disk utility and it has a throughput of 19MB/s. What gives? I've tried changing the bs option on dd to all sorts of values, but it still hovers around 7MB/s. Why is disk utility so much faster?

    I use windows server 2008r2 with role Hyper-V. The guest system is Ubuntu 12.04 LTC. It is situated on the dynamic virtual hard disk. I want to compact this VHD (The real size is 50 GB, 360 GB on the disk). But I can not do this, because the Ubuntu file system is not NTFS. What do I need (gparted, sdelete, ...) for solving this problem? The main problem is that the filesystem is not NTFS, but ext4.

  • Mavericks: Safari does not login in into web services

    Since when I upgraded ML to Mavericks Safari is no longer able to log me into Facebook. When I go to the login page it suggests me the correct credentials, I hit the Login button, the page refreshes but nothing happens, like if the credentials where empty. Firefox works perfectly, I even logged out and back in to make sure the credentials are the same that Safari suggests, and so they are. Needless to say for a different user on the same Mavericks Safari logs in correctly. The same happens with most web pages that need a login, web mails for instances, I have tow accounts on different webmail providers and none of them works. Of course using the same mail services with POP3 works fine. Even on this very site I cannot post a thing with Safari, I'm going to switch to Firefox to be able to post this question. Again, Firefox or a different user are OK. Do you have any idea/suggestion?

I would like to use the free IDX data provided by my local MLS board. The MLS board does not allow me the option of displaying a predefined search and only provides me with a link to the search field. after filling out the search field, I am able to view the results. Goal: I would like to bypass this step and frame the results page into a GoDaddy website I am building, which supports HTML. Now what? The orientation changing is becoming my least favourite part of the iPhone SDK… (I can’t check the code on the device yet, could it be a bug in the simulator?) PS.     Rails has all sorts of auto-generated methods that I've often times struggled to find documentation for. For example, in routes.rb, if I have: map.resources :projects do |p| p.resources :tasks end This will get a plethora of auto-generate path and url helpers. Where can I find documentation for how to work with these paths? I generally understand how to work with them, but more explicit docs might help me understand some of the magic that happens behind the scenes. # compare project_path(@project) project_task_path(@project, @task) # to project_path(:id => @project.id) project_task_path(:project_id => @project.id, :id => @task.id) Also, when I change an attribute on a model, @post.foo_changed? will be true. Where can I find documentation for this and all other magical methods that are created like this? If the magic is there, I'd love to take advantage of it. And finally: Is there a complete resource for config.___ statements for environment.rb? I was able to find docs for Configuration#gem but what attributes can I set within the stubs like config.active_record.___, config.action_mailer.___, config.action_controller.___, etc. Again, I'm looking for a complete resource here, not just a settings for the examples I provided. Even if you can only answer one of these questions, please chime in. These things seem to have been hiding from me and it's my goal to get them some more exposure, so I'll be upvoting all links to docs that point me to what I'm looking for. Thanks! ps, If they're not called auto-generated methods, I apologize. Someone can teach me a lesson here, too :) Edit I'm not looking for tutorials here, folks.   • Using "margin: 0 auto;" in Internet Explorer 8

    I'm in the process of doing some advance IE8 testing, and it seems that the old technique of using "margin: 0 auto;" doesn't work in all cases in IE8. The following piece of HTML gives a centered button in FF3, Opera, Safari, Chrome, IE7, and IE8 compat, but NOT in IE8 standard: <div style="height: 500px; width: 500px; background-color: Yellow;"> <input type="submit" style="display: block; margin: 0 auto;" /> </div> (As a work-around I can add an explicit width to the button). So the question is: which browsers are correct? Or is this one of those cases where the behaviour is undefined? (My thinking is that all the browsers are incorrect - shouldn't the button be 100% width if it's "display: block"?) UPDATE: I'm being a dunce. Since input isn't a block-level element, I should have just contained it within a div with "text-align: center". Having said that, for curiosity's sake, I'd still like to know whether the button should or shouldn't be centered in the example above. FOR THE BOUNTY: I know I'm doing odd things in the example, and as I point out in the update, I should have just aligned it center. For the bounty, I'd like references to the specs that answer: If I set "display: block", should the button be width 100%? Or is this undefined? Since the display is block, should "margin: 0 auto;" center the button, or not, or undefined?

  • MS Access 2003 - Format a Number with Commas AND Auto-Decimal

    On a report I have a control which is bound to a column which can have up to 3 decimal places. I want the number to format with commas separating thousands and millions, but I also want the number of decimal places to be automatic, so that if there is no decimal portion then no decimal at all is shown. 1234.567 -> 1,234.567 1234.560 -> 1,234.56 1234.500 -> 1,234.5 1234.000 -> 1,234 General format will give me the auto decimal places but no commas. Standard format gives the comma but is fixed to 2 decimal places. Doing my own =Format(Number, "#,##0.#") leaves the decimal point in and doesn't align properly, with extra space on the right of the number. Do I have to write my own VB function to give the format I want? It seems silly that Access (apparently) can't do this out of the box.   • Auto-archive IMAP mail folders on OS X

    Hi, I am trying to achieve the following. Download all messages from mail server(and remove downloaded messages from server). Downloaded messages should be in a local mailbox preserving folder structure as was defined on server. The download process should be automatic and shouldn't create duplicates. I am on OSX and looking for solutions using Apple Mail or Thunderbird or similar. So far I have found POP is not the way to go (as it looses folder structure and potentially can cause duplicates). The solution described here seems very good but isn't yet available for thunderbird or apple mail. http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/auto_archive_and_keep_folder_structure. The other alternative is outlook which has auto archive which is paid and I think exports to pst instead of the more common mbox format. Yet another alternative is http://www.pop4.org/ which adds support for folder management to POP. Which I don't think is going to become usable soon. Any other better solutions.? Thank you

    Auto-suggest don't seem to work for queries with spaces. Am I missing something? If you select an item from the suggestion list that was matched by its title, the title is filled in before the address. Can you change it to work like in other browsers? SMRT disables searching by title completely. Can you combine Top Hit, History and Bookmarks into a single section? The preferences starting with DebugSafari4 don't work anymore. (Like DebugSafari4IncludeFancyURLCompletionList.) Can you direct unresolved addresses to something like google.com/search?q=?&btnI instead of ?.com? Like by changing keyword.URL in Firefox. Can you remove or hide the web search field? In Camino, Cruz and Fluid it can be resized to zero width. You can't circumvent the normal maximum ratio with InputFieldWidthRatio. AddressBarIncludesGoogle doesn't appear do anything in the current version. Are there fixes or workarounds to any of these? I'm lumping these issues together, because they are closely related — a lot of them were introduced when the location bar was redesigned in Safari 5. I'm also hoping to find something like an extension or a plugin that would replace the standard location bar.

    I will not bother explaining my full architecture or reasons for wanting this in order to keep this question short: Is it possible to auto-cc a certain email account any time a Exchange user creates an appointment or meeting in his own calendar? Is it possible using rules? Our Exchange 2007 server is outsourced, I cannot change the configuration or install plugins server-side Preferably, it still should work server-side, because users may use the Outlook client but also Outlook Web Access Is there any other way, perhaps using group policies? My conclusion so far is that the only viable way to accomplish this is to build an Outlook add-on. The problem there is that it will need to be managed for thousands of desktop users and that the add-on will not work when using another client (OWA, mobile). An alternative architecture could be to pull the information from the user's calendar on a scheduled basis. Given that we are talking about a lot of users, scalability is a major issue, this has also been confirmed by Microsoft. Can you confirm that my thinking is correct or do you have any other solutions?

        Introduction:          By default inproc session's identifier cookie is saved in browser memory. This cookie is known as non persistent cookie identifier. This simply means that if the user closes his browser then the cookie is immediately removed. On the other hand cookies which stored on the user’s hard drive and can be reused for later visits are called persistent cookies. Persistent cookies are less used than nonpersistent cookies because of security. Simply because nonpersistent cookies makes session hijacking attacks more difficult and more limited. If you are using shared computer then there are lot of chances that your persistent session will be used by other shared members. However this is not always the case, lot of users desired that their session will remain persisted even they open two instances of same browser or when they close and open a new browser. So in this article i will provide a very simple way to persist your session even the browser is closed.   Description:          Let's create a simple ASP.NET Web Application. In this article i will use Web Form but it also works in MVC. Open Default.aspx.cs and add the following code in Page_Load.    protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)        {            if (Session["Message"] != null)                Response.Write(Session["Message"].ToString());            Session["Message"] = "Hello, Imran";        }          This page simply shows a message if a session exist previously and set the session.          Now just run the application, you will just see an empty page on first try. After refreshing the page you will see the Message "Hello, Imran". Now just close the browser and reopen it or just open another browser instance, you will get the exactly same behavior when you run your application first time . Why the session is not persisted between browser instances. The simple reason is non persistent session cookie identifier. The session cookie identifier is not shared between browser instances. Now let's make it persistent.          To make your application share session between different browser instances just add the following code in global.asax.    protected void Application_PostMapRequestHandler(object sender, EventArgs e)           {               if (Request.Cookies["ASP.NET_SessionIdTemp"] != null)               {                   if (Request.Cookies["ASP.NET_SessionId"] == null)                       Request.Cookies.Add(new HttpCookie("ASP.NET_SessionId", Request.Cookies["ASP.NET_SessionIdTemp"].Value));                   else                       Request.Cookies["ASP.NET_SessionId"].Value = Request.Cookies["ASP.NET_SessionIdTemp"].Value;               }           }          protected void Application_PostRequestHandlerExecute(object sender, EventArgs e)        {             HttpCookie cookie = new HttpCookie("ASP.NET_SessionIdTemp", Session.SessionID);               cookie.Expires = DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(Session.Timeout);               Response.Cookies.Add(cookie);         }          This code simply state that during Application_PostRequestHandlerExecute(which is executed after HttpHandler) just add a persistent cookie ASP.NET_SessionIdTemp which contains the value of current user SessionID and sets the timeout to current user session timeout.          In Application_PostMapRequestHandler(which is executed just before th session is restored) we just check whether the Request cookie contains ASP.NET_SessionIdTemp. If yes then just add or update ASP.NET_SessionId cookie with ASP.NET_SessionIdTemp. So when a new browser instance is open, then a check will made that if ASP.NET_SessionIdTemp exist then simply add or update ASP.NET_SessionId cookie with ASP.NET_SessionIdTemp.          So run your application again, you will get the last closed browser session(if it is not expired).   Summary:          Persistence session is great way to increase the user usability. But always beware the security before doing this. However there are some cases in which you might need persistence session. In this article i just go through how to do this simply. So hopefully you will again enjoy this simple article too.

  • Auto-rebuild RAID6 with MDADM

    Hello everybody, i'm new in this forum, and because I see that a lot of people get helped here, i'll ask my question here! I have a openSUSE 11.3 Linux computer with 5 disks of 1TB (WD enterprise disks) in it. with mdadm I configured an RAID6 device. Now, after a lot of thorough testing, i've noticed that when the computer goes down unsuspectedly it could happen (1 time out of 10) that while booting, the md0 device isn't recognised, and then the machine goes in "recovery mode", which means that i have to 'CTRL + C' it so it can boot to openSUSE. Once in openSUSE i have to readd the drive manually with 'mdadm /dev/md0 --add /dev/sdX'. After this everything works back fine (after resynching). So my question is: Is there a way to auto-rebuild the RAID6 device when there are problems? and how can I stop this "recovery mode" from happening. Because the computer will be in a place I can't go to, to connect a keyboard, 'CTRL + C' it just to get in openSUSE. If you could help me, I would be a very very very! happy man! :-) thanks in advance! Mikhail

  • In solaris, how monitor & auto-respond to critical events

    I have a website that randomly fail. Is running in open solaris on joyent. I have a monitoring service that alert me when the site is down, but, I want a way to put a "insider" tool that tell me why that happened. Is because the cpu is too high? Not memory? Which process fail? Is possible to have a backtrace of that? Everything is running on the Solaris Service Management Facility. The webserver is cherokee, the database is mysql and the language is python/django. I want the most simple setup to monitor that & auto-respond , ie: restart the webserver or the django process in case of failure. I prefer a low-overhead tool. I don't need the fancy monitoring that some tools have, no ned graphs or sms alert. Only know what fail, restart it if possible (maybe up to n times), and have a log somewhere when I will check it.

    I'm having a bit of a problem configuring my PuTTY client to work with the auto-completion feature in the ksh shell. I do a listing on the root with the directories /home and /homeroot and it returns the directories in a list just fine. I can't select it, though, by hitting X = (where X is the number). /home/nitrodist>ls /h #hits esc + = 1) home/ 2) homeroot/ #hits 2 + = for the 'homeroot' dir 1) home/ 2) homeroot/ #hits just the '=' key. 1) home/ 2) homeroot/ Any ideas? I've su -'d to another user who can actually do it with their PuTTY session and I can't do it there, which makes me think it's a PuTTY configuration issue. This is running on a ksh93 shell on HP-UX, if that makes any difference.     I've been searching for a way to automatically redirect domains to a specific folder, and fond a good answer here on serverfault: Apache2 VirtualHost auto subdomain. (The accepted answer) So far everything works good, however now I need to add an exception to this. The result I want is this: http://localhost/ --> E:/websites/ http://specialDomain2/ --> E:/websites/ http://normal1.com/ --> E:/websites/normal1.com/ http://normalDomain.com/ --> E:/websites/normal2.com/ I get the expceted result for the two last domains, but the localhost doesn't work. That is the ajax post operation succeeds if it calls from a static html file. But if I chain the requests (after completing the first), so that it calls from the output form generated by the first request, nothing happens. I could see the post method is called through firebug. Is there a better way to handle above flow? One more interesting thing I noticed. As you could see, I use grails as my platform. If I keep the javascripts in the main.gsp (master layout), the submit event would not register as the breakpoint is not hit in firebug. But, if I define the javascript in the template file (which renders the form above), the breakpoint is hit, but as I explained, the action is not called at the controller. I changes the javascript to the head section but same result. any help greatly appreciated. thanks, Babu.
