Android: Dialog themed activity not visible

I have an activity which, when started, needs to check if the user is authenticated. If not, I need to display an interface to authenticate. I do this with another activity, which has a dialog theme, and I start it in onResume() with flags NO_HISTORY and EXCLUDE_FROM_RECENTS. Everything works fine when starting the application for the first time. But I have a feature that resets login after some time, if the user is not in an activity. When I test this, I start the applicatio, enter the password, then move back to home. Then when I enter the application again, the background darkens as if the dialog would show, but it doesn't. At this point, if I press the back button, the darkening from the background activity disappears for a second, then the dialog finally appears. However, if I remove the dialog theme from the dialog activity, it IS shown after the restart. So far I didn't want to use a Dialog instead of an Activity, because I consider them problematic sometimes and less encapsulated and this part has to be quite secure. I've looked all over for more information on this, and would like to know why it happens. IE 6 & 7 render correctly, and I can solve the IE8 problem by triggering compatibility mode, but I'd rather not do that. Does anyone have any experience with this? UIView Animation animates position but not width

Hi there, I'm trying to transform a UISearchBar, like in Mobile Safari: touch in the search field and it grows while the location field shrinks. My current animation to alter the width and position of the search field only animates the position: just before it slides to the right place, it simply snaps out to the right width. Changing JButton background colour temporarily?

Hi, I'm super new to Java, and in need of some help. I'm making a little java desktop application where I basically have a grid of 4 JButtons ( 2 x 2 grid), and I need the background colour of individual JButtons to change, and after one second, change back to the original colour (the game I'm trying to make is like Simon, where you have to follow a pattern of buttons that light up). I have a vector that contains randomly generated numbers in the range of 1 to 4, and I want to be able to get each element from the vector and get the corresponding button to change to a different colour for one second (for example, if the vector contains 2 4 1, I would want button 2 to change, then button 4 to change, then button 1 to change). Is this possible or is there a better way to go about doing this with something other than JButtons? How do I implement this? Also, I'm running Mac OS X, which apparently (based on some things I've read on forums) doesn't like JButtons background changing (I think it's because of system look and feel), how can I change this so it works on mac? Retrieve position of a google maps v3 marker to Qt in a desktop app with QtWebKit

I'm building a Qt app with Python where you can point and click at a (google) map and get the coordinates of the location. The map is shown through a QWebView loading a simple HTML page and the user can create markers by clicking. Screenshot of the widget after clicking on the map: However, I'm having trouble to retrieve the just-clicked location coordinates back to Qt (so that I can use them as variables -- and, for example, show them in the QLineEdits on the topleft corner above, as current location of the marker). Perl Script in background

I have a perl script i made to automatically telnet into different servers . but its interface is only command line. To make it more user friendly for general windows users , i need to make GUI for it . My idea is to make GUI in a language like VB,java ,etc and let that call perl script . my script will run in background in a command prompt and whatever the result it displays back in GUI. Got some success. GUI in vb ,I run an instance of CMD in background ,run perl script in that .But that is wer program fails .As perl script runs in a thread for perl , i only get the output when script completes(rather say when it timeout). i need a mechanism where i can interact with the perl script , take output of script and show to user , then take input from user and so on . Please can you all suggest me some way to actually make this happen. PS: No limitation on using any language for GUI (as core work is done by perl script,GUI only there to give appropriate commands to script) Thanks in advance

How to cache pages using background jobs ?

Definitions: resource = collection of database records, regeneration = processing these records and outputting the corresponding html Current flow: Receive client request Check for resource in cache If not in cache or cache expired, regenerate Return result The problem is that the regeneration step can tie up a single server process for 10-15 seconds. If a couple of users request the same resource, that could result in a couple of processes regenerating the exact same resource simultaneously, each taking up 10-15 seconds. Wouldn't it be preferrable to have the frontend signal some background process saying "Hey, regenerate this resource for me". But then what would it display to the user? "Rebuilding" is not acceptable. All resources would have to be in cache ahead of time. This could be a problem as the database would almost be duplicated on the filesystem (too big to fit in memory). Is there a way to avoid this? Not ideal, but it seems like the only way out. But then there's one more problem. How to keep the same two processes from requesting the regeneration of a resource at the same time? The background process could be regenerating the resource when a frontend asks for the regeneration of the same resource. I'm using PHP and the Zend Framework just in case someone wants to offer a platform-specific solution. Not that it matters though - I think this problem applies to any language/framework. Thanks!

Draw a position from a 2d Array on respected canvas location

Background: I have two 2d arrays. Each index within each 2d array represents a tile which is drawn on a square canvas suitable for 8 x 8 tiles. The first 2d array represents the ground tiles and is looped and drawn on the canvas using the following code: //Draw the map from the land 2d array map = new Canvas(mainFrame, 20, 260, 281, 281); for(int i=0; i < world.length; i++){ for(int j=0; j < world[i].length; j++){ for(int x=0; x < 280; x=x+35){ for(int y=0; y < 280; y=y+35){ Point p = new Point(x,y); map.add(new RectangleObject(p,35,35,Colour.green)); } } } } This creates a grid of green tiles 8 x 8 across as intended. The second 2d array represents the position on the ground. This 2d array has everyone of its indexes as null apart from one which is comprised of a Person class. Problem I am unsure of how I can draw the position on the grid. I was thinking of a similar loop, so it draws over the previous 2d array another set of 64 tiles. Only this time they are all transparent but the one tile which isn't null. In other words, the tile where Person is located. I wanted to use a search throughout the loop using a comparative if statement along the lines of if(!(world[] == null)){ map.add(new RectangleObject(p,35,35,Colour.red));} However my knowledge is limited and I am confused on how to implement it.

Background color remaining when switching views

Hi Guys. I have a UIViewController named equationVC who's user interface is being programmatically created from another NSObject class called equationCon. Upon loading equationVC, a method called chooseInterface is called from the equationCon class. I have a global variable (globalVar) that points to a user defined string. chooseInterface finds a method in the equationCon class that matches the string globalVar points to. In this case, let's say that globalVar points to a string that is called "methodThatMatches." In methodThatMatches, another view controller needs to show the results of what methodThatMatches did. methodThatMatches creates a new equationVC that calls upon methodThatMatches2. As a test, each method changes the color of the background. When the application starts up, I get a purple background, but as soon as I hit backwards I get another purple screen, which should be yellow. I do not think that I am release the view properly. Decoding a jpg in the background in WP7

I have a bunch of apps in the marketplace, and so far I have been able, by changing my functionality or going the extra mile, to work around the issue of being unable to decode a jpg in the background into a WriteableBitmap. I am finding a situation where I can't think of good ways to "work around" the issue. I need to decode the image I get from MediaLibrary, reduce it's resolution to something managable (800x800), rotate it potentially and save to local storage. By far, the thing that takes the most time (80%) is decoding the bitmap to 800x800 - it takes between 700ms to 1000 ms. A user may add 7-10 images when starting, which translates to ~10 seconds of waiting for the images being added. I tried doing this lazily, but at some point you need to pay the piper and the app essentially stutters for ~1000ms at that point and the experience is not great. Is there an alternative I am missing for loading the image in the background somehow? (Note on why CreateOptions.BackgroundCreation is no good for me: It loads the image into a BitmapImage which is great if you want to just use it, but not so great for what I need to do which is create a copy in Isolated Storage).

stop background of iphone webapp from responding to swipes

I'm making a mobile version of my website, and trying to make it feel as native as possible on the iphone. However, any background areas of the page respond to swiping gestures such that you can shift the page partway off the screen. Specifically, if the user touches and swipes left, for example, the content shifts off the edge of the screen and one can see a gray background 'behind' the page. How can this be prevented? I'd like to have the page itself be 320x480 with scroll-swiping disabled (except on list elements that I choose). I have added the following meta tags to the top of the page: <meta name="viewport" content="width=320; height=480; initial-scale=1.0; maximum-scale=1.0; user-scalable=0;"/> <meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes" /> <meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-status-bar-style" content="black" /> I've also tried the following as the event handler for the touchstart, touchmove, and touchend events of the body element: function cancelTouchEvent(e) { if (!e) var e = window.event; e.cancelBubble = true; if (e.stopPropagation) e.stopPropagation(); if (e.preventDefault) e.preventDefault(); return false; } It doesn't stop the swiping behavior, but does prevent clicks on all links on the page... However since the table rows are dynamically generated, how can I achieve this?

Hi, I have created a view that I want to be able to rotate. The two views are: containerView and this has a .backgroundColor of red and BackgroundImage as a subview. Is there a nice solution to this problem (I know that I could create the images to blend into a color and set the background to the same color, but this is not what I would like). Creating WPF components in background thread

Im working on a reporting system, a series of DocumentPage are to be created through a DocumentPaginator. These documents include a number of WPF components that are to be instantiated so the paginator includes the correct things when later sent to the XpsDocumentWriter (which in turn is sent to the actual printer). My problem now is that the DocumentPage instances take quite a while to create (enough for Windows to mark the application as frozen) so I tried to create them in a background thread, which is problematic since WPF expects the attributes on them to be set from the GUI thread. I would also like to have a progress bar showing up, indicating how many pages have been created so far. Thus, it looks like Im trying to get two things to happen in parallell on the GUI. The problem is hard to explain and Im really not sure how to tackle it. In short: Create a series of DocumentPage's. These include WPF components These are to be created on a background thread, or use some other trick so the application isnt frozen. After each page is created, a WPF ProgressBar should be updated. If there is no decent way to do this, alternate solutions and approaches are more than welcome.

Implementing list position locator in C++?

I am writing a basic Graph API in C++ (I know libraries already exist, but I am doing it for the practice/experience). The structure is basically that of an adjacency list representation. So there are Vertex objects and Edge objects, and the Graph class contains: list<Vertex *> vertexList list<Edge *> edgeList Each Edge object has two Vertex* members representing its endpoints, and each Vertex object has a list of Edge* members representing the edges incident to the Vertex. All this is quite standard, but here is my problem. I want to be able to implement deletion of Edges and Vertices in constant time, so for example each Vertex object should have a Locator member that points to the position of its Vertex* in the vertexList. The way I first implemented this was by saving a list::iterator, as follows: vertexList.push_back(v); v->locator = --vertexList.end(); Then if I need to delete this vertex later, then rather than searching the whole vertexList for its pointer, I can call: vertexList.erase(v->locator); This works fine at first, but it seems that if enough changes (deletions) are made to the list, the iterators will become out-of-date and I get all sorts of iterator errors at runtime. This seems strange for a linked list, because it doesn't seem like you should ever need to re-allocate the remaining members of the list after deletions, but maybe the STL does this to optimize by keeping memory somewhat contiguous? In any case, I would appreciate it if anyone has any insight as to why this happens. Is there a standard way in C++ to implement a locator that will keep track of an element's position in a list without becoming obsolete? Much thanks, Jeff

Absolute position <span> in <li> - strange -

Hi, So i have a normal list <ul class="test"> <li><span><a href="">Gemeente</a><span></span></span></li> <li><span><a href="">Openingsuren</a><span></span></span></li> <li><span><a href="">Gezondheid</a><span></span></span></li> </ul> 1: The second <span> is a 100x100 block background image. 2: The list is a normal bulleted list, not floated 3: The <ul> has position:relative, the <li> has not 4: The second <span> is set to position:absolute; top:0px; left:0px; The problem The second <span> gets positioned relative to the <li> dsf not the <ul>. Why is that?

I couldn't find the @root-node-position XPath attribute info. Would you give me a link of where i can read about it? Is it XPath 2.0? Determine an elements position in a variable length grid of elements

I have a grid of a variable number of elements. Say 5 images per row and a variable number of images. I need to determine which column (for lack of a better word) each image is in... i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. In this grid, images 1, 6, 12 and 17 would be in column 1 while 4, 9 and 15 would be in column 4. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 What I am trying to do is apply a background image to each element based on it's column position.
