  • Slick2D, Nifty GUI listeners problem

    - by Patokun
    I'm trying to get Nifty GUI to work with Slick2D. So far everything is going great, except that I can't seem to figure out how to properly interact with the GUI. I'm trying the example in the nifty manual http://sourceforge.n....0.pdf/download but it doesn't seem to entirely work. The Element controller is being called for bind(...), init(...) and onStartScreen() as it should, as I can see their println output, but the next() method isn't being called when I click on the GUI element that I assigned the controller to, nor the screen controller as no output from println is shown. What's weird is, that the player is moving, so the mouse input is working. It's supposed to be called when I click the mouse button on it from the in the XML. Here is my code: My Element controller: public class ElementController implements Controller { private Element element; @Override public void bind(Nifty nifty, Screen screen, Element element, Properties parameter, Attributes controlDefinitionAttributes) { this.element = element; System.out.println("bind() called for element: " + element); } @Override public void init(Properties parameter, Attributes controlDefinitionAttributes) { System.out.println("init() called for element: " + element); } @Override public void onStartScreen() { System.out.println("onStartScreen() alled for element: " + element); } @Override public void onFocus(boolean getFocus) { System.out.println("onFocus() called for element: " + element + ", with: " + getFocus); } @Override public boolean inputEvent(NiftyInputEvent inputEvent) { return false; } public void next() { System.out.println("next() clicked for element: " + element); } } MyScreenController: class MyScreenController implements ScreenController { public void bind(Nifty nifty, Screen screen) {} public void onEndScreen() {} public void onStartScreen() {} public void next() { System.out.println("next() called from MyScreenController"); } } And my XML file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <nifty xmlns="http://nifty-gui.sourceforge.net/nifty-1.3.xsd" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"xsi:schemaLocation="http://niftygui.sourceforge.net/nifty-1.3.xsd http://nifty-gui.sourceforge.net/nifty-1.3.xsd"> <screen id="start" controller="predaN00b.theThing.V0004.MyScreenController"> <layer childLayout="center" controller="predaN00b.theThing.V0004.ElementController"> <panel width="100px" height="100px" childLayout="vertical" backgroundColor="#ff0f"> <text font="aurulent-sans-16.fnt" color="#ffff" text="Hello World!"> <interact onClick="next()" /> </text> </panel> </layer> </screen> </nifty> My main class, in case it's needed: public class MainGameState extends BasicGame { public Nifty nifty; public MainGame() { super("Test"); } public void init(GameContainer container, StateBasedGame game) throws SlickException { nifty = new Nifty(new SlickRenderDevice(container), new NullSoundDevice(), new PlainSlickInputSystem(), new AccurateTimeProvider()); nifty.addXml("/xml/MainState.xml"); nifty.gotoScreen("start"); } public void update(GameContainer container, StateBasedGame game, int delta) throws SlickException { nifty.update(); } public void render(GameContainer container, StateBasedGame game, Graphics graphics) throws SlickException { nifty.render(false); } public static void main(String[] args) throws SlickException { AppGameContainer app = new AppGameContainer(new MainGame()); app.setAlwaysRender(true); app.setDisplayMode( 1260 , 720, false); //window size app.start(); } }

  • Mongodb Slave replication lag

    - by Leonid Bugaev
    We using standard mongo setup: 2 replicas + 1 arbiter. Both replica servers use same AWS m1.medium with RAID10 EBS. We experiencing constantly growing replication lag on secondary replica. I tried to do full-resync, you can see it on graph, but it helped only for some hours. Our mongo usage is really low now, and frankly i can't understan why it can be. iostat 1 for secondary: avg-cpu: %user %nice %system %iowait %steal %idle 80.39 0.00 2.94 0.00 16.67 0.00 Device: tps kB_read/s kB_wrtn/s kB_read kB_wrtn xvdap1 0.00 0.00 0.00 0 0 xvdb 0.00 0.00 0.00 0 0 xvdfp4 12.75 0.00 189.22 0 193 xvdfp3 12.75 0.00 189.22 0 193 xvdfp2 7.84 0.00 40.20 0 41 xvdfp1 7.84 0.00 40.20 0 41 md127 19.61 0.00 219.61 0 224 mongostat for secondary (why 100% locks? i guess its the problem): insert query update delete getmore command flushes mapped vsize res faults locked % idx miss % qr|qw ar|aw netIn netOut conn set repl time *10 *0 *16 *0 0 2|4 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.65g 0 107 0 0|0 0|0 198b 1k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:37 *4 *0 *8 *0 0 12|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.65g 0 91.7 0 0|0 0|0 837b 5k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:38 *4 *0 *7 *0 0 3|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.64g 0 110 0 0|0 0|0 342b 1k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:39 *4 *0 *8 *0 0 1|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.64g 0 82.9 0 0|0 0|0 62b 1k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:40 *3 *0 *7 *0 0 5|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.6g 0 75.2 0 0|0 0|0 466b 2k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:41 *4 *0 *7 *0 0 1|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.64g 0 138 0 0|0 0|1 62b 1k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:42 *7 *0 *15 *0 0 3|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.64g 0 95.4 0 0|0 0|0 342b 1k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:43 *7 *0 *14 *0 0 1|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.64g 0 98 0 0|0 0|0 62b 1k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:44 *8 *0 *17 *0 0 3|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.64g 0 96.3 0 0|0 0|0 342b 1k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:45 *7 *0 *14 *0 0 3|0 0 30.9g 62.4g 1.64g 0 96.1 0 0|0 0|0 186b 2k 16 replset-01 SEC 06:55:46 mongostat for primary insert query update delete getmore command flushes mapped vsize res faults locked % idx miss % qr|qw ar|aw netIn netOut conn set repl time 12 30 20 0 0 3 0 30.9g 62.6g 641m 0 0.9 0 0|0 0|0 212k 619k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:41 5 17 10 0 0 2 0 30.9g 62.6g 641m 0 0.5 0 0|0 0|0 159k 429k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:42 9 22 16 0 0 3 0 30.9g 62.6g 642m 0 0.7 0 0|0 0|0 158k 276k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:43 6 18 12 0 0 2 0 30.9g 62.6g 640m 0 0.7 0 0|0 0|0 93k 231k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:44 6 12 8 0 0 3 0 30.9g 62.6g 640m 0 0.3 0 0|0 0|0 80k 125k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:45 8 21 14 0 0 9 0 30.9g 62.6g 641m 0 0.6 0 0|0 0|0 118k 419k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:46 10 34 20 0 0 6 0 30.9g 62.6g 640m 0 1.3 0 0|0 0|0 164k 527k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:47 6 21 13 0 0 2 0 30.9g 62.6g 641m 0 0.7 0 0|0 0|0 111k 477k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:48 8 21 15 0 0 2 0 30.9g 62.6g 641m 0 0.7 0 0|0 0|0 204k 336k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:49 4 12 8 0 0 8 0 30.9g 62.6g 641m 0 0.5 0 0|0 0|0 156k 530k 48 replset-01 M 06:56:50 Mongo version: 2.0.6

  • The Three-Legged Milk Stool - Why Oracle Fusion Incentive Compensation makes the difference!

    - by Richard Lefebvre
    During the London Olympics, we were exposed to dozens of athletes who worked with sports psychologists to maximize their performance. Executives often hire business psychologists to coach their teams to excellence. In the same vein, Fusion Incentive Compensation can be used to get people to change their sales behavior so we can make our numbers. But what about using incentive compensation solutions in a non-sales scenario to drive change? Recently, I was working an opportunity where a company was having a low user adoption rate for Salesforce.com, which was causing problems for them. I suggested they use Fusion Incentive Comp to change the reps' behavior. We tossed around the idea of tracking user adoption by creating a variable bonus for reps based on how well they forecasted revenues in the new system. Another thought was to reward the reps for how often they logged into the system or for the percentage of leads that became opportunities and turned into revenue. A new twist on a great product. Fusion CRM's Sweet Spot I'm excited about the sales performance management (SPM) tools in Fusion CRM. This trio of Incentive Compensation, Territory Management, and Quota Management sets us apart from the competition because Oracle is the only vendor that provides all three of these capabilities on a single tech stack, in a single application, and with a single look and feel. The niche vendors offer standalone territory or incentive compensation solutions, but then the customer has to custom build the other tools and can end up with a Frankenstein-type environment. On average, companies overpay sales commissions by three to eight percent. You calculate that number for a company the size of Oracle for one quarter and it makes a pretty air-tight financial case for using SPM tools to figure accurate commissions. Plus when sales reps get the right compensation, they can be out selling rather than spending precious time figuring out what they didn't get paid or looking for another job. And one more thing ... Oracle knows incentive comp. We have been a Gartner Market Scope leader in this space for the last five years. Our solution gets high marks because of its scalability and because of its interoperability with other technologies. And now that we're leading with Fusion, our incentive compensation offering includes the innovations that the Fusion team built, plus enhancements from the E-Business Suite Incentive Comp team. It's a case of making a good thing even better. (See product video.) The "Wedge" Apps In a number of accounts that I'm working on, there is a non-Oracle CRM system of record. That gives me the perfect opportunity to introduce the benefits of our SPM tools and to get the customer using Fusion. Then the door is wide open for the company to uptake more of Fusion CRM, especially since all the integrations they need are out of the box. I really believe that implementing this wedge of SPM tools is the ticket to taking market share away from other vendors. It allows us to insert ourselves in an environment where no other CRM solution in the market has the extending capabilities of Fusion. Not Just Your Usual Suspects Usually the stakeholders that I talk to for Territory Management are tightly aligned with the sales management team. When I sell the quota planning tool, I'm talking to finance people on the ERP side of the house who are measuring quotas and forecasting revenue. And then Incentive Comp is of most interest to the sales operations people, and generally these people roll up to either HR or the payroll department. I think of our Fusion SPM tools as a three-legged stool straddling an organization's Sales, Finance, and HR departments. So when you're prospecting for opportunities -- yes, people with a CRM perspective will be very interested -- but don't limit yourselves to that constituency. You might find stakeholders in accounting, revenue planning, or HR compensation teams. You just might discover, as I did at United Airlines, that the HR organization is spearheading the CRM project because incentive compensation is what they need ... and they're the ones with the budget. • C++Template in Java?

    - by RnMss
    I want something like this: public abstract class ListenerEx<LISTENER, PARENT> implements LISTENER { PARENT parent; public ListenerEx(PARENT p) { parent = p; } } But it doesn't compile. Is there a better solution? Is there something in Java like C++ template that would do check syntax after template deduction? The following explains why I need such a ListenerEX class, if you already know what it is, you don't need to read the following. I have a main window, and a button on it, and I want to get access to some method of the main window's within the listener: public class MainWindow extends JFrame { public void doSomething() { /* ... */ } public void doSomethingElse() { /* ... */ } private JButton button; public MainWindow() { button = new JButton(...); add(button); button.setActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { doSomething(); doSomethingElse(); } }); } } This would compile but does not work properly all the time. (Why would it compile when the ActionListener does not have doSomething() method?) Of course we can do it like this: public class MainWindow extends JFrame { public void doSomething() { } public void doSomethingElse() { } private JButton button; public MainWindow() { button = new JButton(...); add(button); class ActionListener1 implements ActionListener { MainWindow parent; public ActionListener(MainWindow p) { parent = p; } public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { parent.doSomething(); parent.doSomethingElse(); } } button.setActionListener(new ActionListener1(this)); } } However I hate this style ... So I tried: public abstract class ActionListenerEx<P> implements ActionListener { P parent; public ActionListenerEx(P p) { parent = p; } } public class MainWindow extends JFrame { public void doSomething() { } public void doSomethingElse() { } private JButton button; public MainWindow() { button = new JButton(...); add(button); button.setActionListener(new ActionListenerEx<MainWindow>(this) { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { parent.doSomething(); parent.doSomethingElse(); } }); } } But there's lots of Listeners beside the ActionListener ... public abstract class ActionListenerEx<LISTENER, PARENT> implements LISTENER { PARENT parent; public ActionListenerEx(PARENT p) { parent = p; } } However, it won't compile ... I am fresh at Java, and I wonder if there's already better solution.

  • Add child to scene from within a class.

    - by Fecal Brunch
    Hi, I'm new to flash in general and have been writing a program with two classes that extend MovieClip (Stems and Star). I need to create a new Stems object as a child of the scene when the user stops dragging a Star object, but do not know how to reference the scene from within the Star class's code. I've tried passing the scene into the constructor of the Star and doing sometihng like: this.scene.addChild (new Stems ()); But apparently that's not how to do it... Below is the code for Stems and Stars, any advice would be appreciated greatly. package { import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.events.*; import flash.utils.Timer; public class Stems extends MovieClip { public const centreX=1026/2; public const centreY=600/2; public var isFlowing:Boolean; public var flowerType:Number; public const outerLimit=210; public const innerLimit=100; public function Stems(fType:Number) { this.isFlowing=false; this.scaleX=this.scaleY= .0007* distanceFromCentre(this.x, this.y); this.setXY(); trace(distanceFromCentre(this.x, this.y)); if (fType==2) { gotoAndStop("Aplant"); } } public function distanceFromCentre(X:Number, Y:Number):int { return (Math.sqrt((X-centreX)*(X-centreX)+(Y-centreY)*(Y-centreY))); } public function rotateAwayFromCentre():void { var theX:int=centreX-this.x; var theY:int = (centreY - this.y) * -1; var angle = Math.atan(theY/theX)/(Math.PI/180); if (theX<0) { angle+=180; } if (theX>=0&&theY<0) { angle+=360; } this.rotation = ((angle*-1) + 90)+180; } public function setXY() { do { var tempX=Math.random()*centreX*2; var tempY=Math.random()*centreY*2; } while (distanceFromCentre (tempX, tempY)>this.outerLimit || distanceFromCentre (tempX, tempY)<this.innerLimit); this.x=tempX; this.y=tempY; rotateAwayFromCentre(); } public function getFlowerType():Number { return this.flowerType; } } } package { import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.events.*; import flash.utils.Timer; public class Star extends MovieClip { public const sWide=1026; public const sTall=600; public var startingX:Number; public var startingY:Number; public var starColor:Number; public var flicker:Timer; public var canUpdatePos:Boolean=true; public const innerLimit=280; public function Star(color:Number, basefl:Number, factorial:Number) { this.setXY(); this.starColor=color; this.flicker = new Timer (basefl + factorial * (Math.ceil(100* Math.random ()))); this.flicker.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, this.tick); this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, this.hover); this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, this.drop); this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, this.drag); this.addChild (new Stems (2)); this.flicker.start(); this.updateAnimation(0, false); } public function distanceOK(X:Number, Y:Number):Boolean { if (Math.sqrt((X-(sWide/2))*(X-(sWide/2))+(Y-(sTall/2))*(Y-(sTall/2)))>innerLimit) { return true; } else { return false; } } public function setXY() { do { var tempX=this.x=Math.random()*sWide; var tempY=this.y=Math.random()*sTall; } while (distanceOK (tempX, tempY)==false); this.startingX=tempX; this.startingY=tempY; } public function tick(event:TimerEvent) { if (this.canUpdatePos) { this.setXY(); } this.updateAnimation(0, false); this.updateAnimation(this.starColor, false); } public function updateAnimation(color:Number, bright:Boolean) { var brightStr:String; if (bright) { brightStr="bright"; } else { brightStr="low"; } switch (color) { case 0 : this.gotoAndStop("none"); break; case 1 : this.gotoAndStop("N" + brightStr); break; case 2 : this.gotoAndStop("A" + brightStr); break; case 3 : this.gotoAndStop("F" + brightStr); break; case 4 : this.gotoAndStop("E" + brightStr); break; case 5 : this.gotoAndStop("S" + brightStr); break; } } public function hover(event:MouseEvent):void { this.updateAnimation(this.starColor, true); this.canUpdatePos=false; } public function drop(event:MouseEvent):void { this.stopDrag(); this.x=this.startingX; this.y=this.startingY; this.updateAnimation(0, false); this.canUpdatePos=true; } public function drag(event:MouseEvent):void { this.startDrag(false); this.canUpdatePos=false; } } }

  • This Week in Geek History: Gmail Goes Public, Deep Blue Wins at Chess, and the Birth of Thomas Edison

    - by Jason Fitzpatrick
    Every week we bring you a snapshot of the week in Geek History. This week we’re taking a peek at the public release of Gmail, the first time a computer won against a chess champion, and the birth of prolific inventor Thomas Edison. Gmail Goes Public It’s hard to believe that Gmail has only been around for seven years and that for the first three years of its life it was invite only. In 2007 Gmail dropped the invite only requirement (although they would hold onto the “beta” tag for another two years) and opened its doors for anyone to grab a username @gmail. For what seemed like an entire epoch in internet history Gmail had the slickest web-based email around with constant innovations and features rolling out from Gmail Labs. Only in the last year or so have major overhauls at competitors like Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail brought other services up to speed. Can’t stand reading a Week in Geek History entry without a random fact? Here you go: gmail.com was originally owned by the Garfield franchise and ran a service that delivered Garfield comics to your email inbox. No, we’re not kidding. Deep Blue Proves Itself a Chess Master Deep Blue was a super computer constructed by IBM with the sole purpose of winning chess matches. In 2011 with the all seeing eye of Google and the amazing computational abilities of engines like Wolfram Alpha we simply take powerful computers immersed in our daily lives for granted. The 1996 match against reigning world chest champion Garry Kasparov where in Deep Blue held its own, but ultimately lost, in a  4-2 match shook a lot of people up. What did it mean if something that was considered such an elegant and quintessentially human endeavor such as chess was so easy for a machine? A series of upgrades helped Deep Blue outright win a match against Kasparov in 1997 (seen in the photo above). After the win Deep Blue was retired and disassembled. Parts of Deep Blue are housed in the National Museum of History and the Computer History Museum. Birth of Thomas Edison Thomas Alva Edison was one of the most prolific inventors in history and holds an astounding 1,093 US Patents. He is responsible for outright inventing or greatly refining major innovations in the history of world culture including the phonograph, the movie camera, the carbon microphone used in nearly every telephone well into the 1980s, batteries for electric cars (a notion we’d take over a century to take seriously), voting machines, and of course his enormous contribution to electric distribution systems. Despite the role of scientist and inventor being largely unglamorous, Thomas Edison and his tumultuous relationship with fellow inventor Nikola Tesla have been fodder for everything from books, to comics, to movies, and video games. Other Notable Moments from This Week in Geek History Although we only shine the spotlight on three interesting facts a week in our Geek History column, that doesn’t mean we don’t have space to highlight a few more in passing. This week in Geek History: 1971 – Apollo 14 returns to Earth after third Lunar mission. 1974 – Birth of Robot Chicken creator Seth Green. 1986 – Death of Dune creator Frank Herbert. Goodnight Dune. 1997 – Simpsons becomes longest running animated show on television. Have an interesting bit of geek trivia to share? • Extra text shown on oveflow: hidden

    - by TRiG
    I'm keeping the main content area of the webpage small, so that footer navigation can be seen "above the fold". This is done by javascript setting the main content <div> thus: sec.style.height = '265px'; sec.style.overflow = 'hidden'; And then using javascript to insert a button to change the style back to normal: sec.style.height = 'auto'; The problem is that the cut-off point of 265px (dictated by the size of an image which I don't want to hide) doesn't quite match the gap between lines of text. This means that there the tops of tall letters show as funny little marks. Is there any way to hide text which is partially showing in a <div style="overflow: hidden;">? Edit to add: Full javascript var overflow = { hide: function() { var sec = app.get('content_section'); sec.style.height = '263px'; sec.style.overflow = 'hidden'; overflow.toggle(false); }, toggle: function(value) { var cnt = app.get('toggle_control'); if (value) { var func = 'hide'; cnt.innerHTML = 'Close « '; } else { var func = 'show'; cnt.innerHTML = 'More » '; } cnt.onclick = function() {eval('overflow.' + func + '();'); return false;}; cnt.style.cursor = 'pointer'; cnt.style.fontWeight = 'normal'; cnt.style.margin = '0 0 0 857px'; }, show: function() { var sec = app.get('content_section'); sec.style.height = 'auto'; overflow.toggle(true); } } if (document.addEventListener) { document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', overflow.hide, false); } else { window.onload = function() {return overflow.hide();}; }

  • Populating objects in C#

    - by acadia
    Hello, I have Order,OrderDetails and OrderStatus objects as shown below: public class Order { public override int OrderId { get; set; } public string FName { get; set; } public string MName { get; set; } public string LName { get; set; } public string Street { get; set; } public string City { get; set; } public List<OrderDetails> OrderDetails { get; set; }; } public class OrderDetails { public override int OrderdetailsId { get; set; } public int OrderId { get; set; } public int ProductID { get; set; } public int Qty { get; set; } public List<OrderStatus> OrderStat { get; set; }; } public class OrderStatus { public override int OrderdetailsStatusId { get; set; } public int OrderdetailsId { get; set; } public int StatusID { get; set; } } I cannot use LinQ. I want to populate the order object like we do in LinQ. How do I populate all all the properties in Order object: for eg. Order o =new Order(); o.FName="John"; o.LName="abc"; o.Street="TStreet"; o.City="Atlanta"; then o.Orderdetails.Add(orderdetails) How do I do that here in C# when not using LinQ.

  • Validation with State Pattern for Multi-Page Forms in ASP.NET

    - by philrabin
    I'm trying to implement the state pattern for a multi-page registration form. The data on each page will be accumulated and stored in a session object. Should validation (including service layer calls to the DB) occur on the page level or inside each state class? In other words, should the concrete implementation of IState be concerned with the validation or should it be given a fully populated and valid object? See "EmptyFormState" class below: namespace Example { public class Registrar { private readonly IState formEmptyState; private readonly IState baseInformationComplete; public RegistrarSessionData RegistrarSessionData { get; set;} public Registrar() { RegistrarSessionData = new RegistrarSessionData(); formEmptyState = new EmptyFormState(this); baseInformationComplete = new BasicInfoCompleteState(this); State = formEmptyState; } public IState State { get; set; } public void SubmitData(RegistrarSessionData data) { State.SubmitData(data); } public void ProceedToNextStep() { State.ProceedToNextStep(); } } //actual data stored in the session //to be populated by page public class RegistrarSessionData { public string FirstName { get; set; } public string LastName { get; set; } //will include values of all 4 forms } //State Interface public interface IState { void SubmitData(RegistrarSessionData data); void ProceedToNextStep(); } //Concrete implementation of IState //Beginning state - no data public class EmptyFormState : IState { private readonly Registrar registrar; public EmptyFormState(Registrar registrar) { this.registrar = registrar; } public void SubmitData(RegistrarSessionData data) { //Should Validation occur here? //Should each state object contain a validation class? (IValidator ?) //Should this throw an exception? } public void ProceedToNextStep() { registrar.State = new BasicInfoCompleteState(registrar); } } //Next step, will have 4 in total public class BasicInfoCompleteState : IState { private readonly Registrar registrar; public BasicInfoCompleteState(Registrar registrar) { this.registrar = registrar; } public void SubmitData(RegistrarSessionData data) { //etc } public void ProceedToNextStep() { //etc } } }

  • Entity Framework 1:1 Relationship Identity Colums

    - by Hupperware
    I cannot for the life of me get two separate tables to save with a relationship and two identity columns. I keep getting errors like A dependent property in a ReferentialConstraint is mapped to a store-generated column. Column: 'OlsTerminalId'. I can't imagine that this setup is abnormal. • EF Code First - Relationships

    - by CaffGeek
    I have these classes public class EntityBase : IEntity { public int Id { get; set; } public DateTime Created { get; set; } public string CreatedBy { get; set; } public DateTime Updated { get; set; } public string UpdatedBy { get; set; } } public class EftInterface : EntityBase { public string Name { get; set; } public Provider Provider { get; set; } public List<BusinessUnit> BusinessUnits { get; set; } } public class Provider : EntityBase, IEntity { public string Name { get; set; } public decimal DefaultDebitLimit { get; set; } public decimal DefaultCreditLimit { get; set; } public decimal TreasuryDebitLimit { get; set; } public decimal TreasuryCreditLimit { get; set; } } public class BusinessUnit : EntityBase { public string Name { get; set; } } An interface, is really a Provider, with a collection of Business Units. The issue is that while my db model ends up having a correct EftInterfaces table, with a FK to Provider_Id, the BusinessUnits table has a FK to EftInterface_Id. But, a BusinessUnit can be included in more than one EftInterface. I need a many to many relationship. A BusinessUnit can be part of many EftInterfaces, and an EftInterface can contain many BusinessUnits. How can I get CodeFirst to generate the many-to-many table?

  • Strange performance issue with Dell R7610 and LSI 2208 RAID controller

    - by GregC
    Connecting controller to any of the three PCIe x16 slots yield choppy read performance around 750 MB/sec Lowly PCIe x4 slot yields steady 1.2 GB/sec read Given same files, same Windows Server 2008 R2 OS, same RAID6 24-disk Seagate ES.2 3TB array on LSI 9286-8e, same Dell R7610 Precision Workstation with A03 BIOS, same W5000 graphics card (no other cards), same settings etc. I see super-low CPU utilization in both cases. SiSoft Sandra reports x8 at 5GT/sec in x16 slot, and x4 at 5GT/sec in x4 slot, as expected. I'd like to be able to rely on the sheer speed of x16 slots. What gives? What can I try? Any ideas? Please assist Cross-posted from http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19526990.aspx Follow-up information We did some more performance testing with reading from 8 SSDs, connected directly (without an expander chip). This means that both SAS cables were utilized. We saw nearly double performance, but it varied from run to run: {2.0, 1.8, 1.6, and 1.4 GB/sec were observed, then performance jumped back up to 2.0}. The SSD RAID0 tests were conducted in a x16 PCIe slot, all other variables kept the same. It seems to me that we were getting double the performance of HDD-based RAID6 array. Just for reference: maximum possible read burst speed over single channel of SAS 6Gb/sec is 570 MB/sec due to 8b/10b encoding and protocol limitations (SAS cable provides four such channels).

  • How to achieve the following RTO & RPO with logshipping only using SQL Server?

    - by Jimmy Chandra
    Trying to come up with viable backup restore & logshipping solution for achieving the following: 15 minutes Recovery Point Objective (no more than 15 minutes data loss at any time) 5 minutes Recovery Time Objective (must be able to get the db up and running back by 5 minutes) Considering using logshipping only (which I think is kind of pushing it, but I want to know if anyone else know how to achieve this). Some other info for consideration: Using 40 Gbit / sec fiber channel between the primary and disaster recovery (DRC) sites The sites are about 600 km apart. At close of business, the amount of data generated is predicted to be about 150 MB/sec. Log backup is planned for every 5 min. Doing some rough calculation I came up w/ the following numbers: 40 Gbit / sec = 5 MB / sec @ 100% network efficiency. 5 MB / sec = 300 MB / min. @ 300 MB / min, the total amount of data that can be transfer considering the 5min RTO is about 1.5GB, but that will left no time for the actual backup and restore, so if we cut it down to 3min logshipping time, which equals to ~900 MB over 3 minutes at 100% network efficiency, that will left about 1 min backup time and 1 minute restore time. Currently don't have any information if the system being used is capable of restoring 900 MB in 1 min, but assume it can. for COB scenario... 150 MB/sec, and considering the 3 min logshipping time, which should equal to about 27 GB of data over 3 mins...??? I think this is where the SLA will break... since there is no way to transfer 27 GB of data over a 40Gbit/sec line in 3 min. Can I get someone else opinion? I am thinking database mirroring might be a better answer for this...

  • How to get gigabit network speeds on Windows XP?

    - by JB
    We've just installed gigabit switches at work, and things on the Linux side are going well. Our linux boxes, which use a Intel Corporation 82566DM-2 Gigabit nic (according to lspci), consistently get over 900 mbits/sec: iperf -c ipserver ------------------------------------------------------------ Client connecting to ipserver, TCP port 5001 TCP window size: 16.0 KByte (default) ------------------------------------------------------------ [ 3] local 192.168.40.9 port 39823 connected with 192.168.1.115 port 5001 [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth [ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 1.08 GBytes 929 Mbits/sec We have a bunch of Windows XP 64-bit machines that use Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx cards. I spent around a day trying to get equivalent speeds on them, but couldn't get above 200 Mbits/sec. I noticed the Windows iperf tests said that the TCP window size was 8 Kb by default (as opposed to 16 Kb on Linux, so I modified my test to reflect that. Still no love. I went to Broadcom's site, downloaded the latest drivers for the card and installed. Still no love. However, finally, I tried a 64 Kb window size with the new drivers, and finally an improvement! $ iperf -c ipserver -w64k ------------------------------------------------------------ Client connecting to ipserver, TCP port 5001 TCP window size: 64.0 KByte ------------------------------------------------------------ [ 3] local 192.168.40.214 port 1848 connected with 192.168.1.115 port 5001 [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth [ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 933 MBytes 782 Mbits/sec Much better, but still not really taking advantage of the full capabilities of the network. If the Linux box can reach 950 Mbits/sec consistently, this box should be able to as well. Also, if you're wondering about the medium, this is over the same cable...I'm switching back and forth. Any suggestion or ideas would be really welcome. Thanks!

  • Xen PV packet loss

    - by Delphinator
    I'm having some serious issues with packetloss with one of my servers. This server is a somewhat old (P4-era) machine running Debian Squeeze and Xen 4.0. There are two domUs running on it (both also Debian Squeeze), one gateway and a fileserver. Unfortunatly the processor has no virtualization extensions, therefore only PV can be used. While investigating why our network seems to be slower than it should I found some pretty bad packet loss (~25%). After further investigation and several experiments I did a measurment between the dom0 and one of the domUs: Server listening on UDP port 5001 Receiving 1470 byte datagrams UDP buffer size: 110 KByte (default) ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ Client connecting to dom0, UDP port 5001 Sending 1470 byte datagrams UDP buffer size: 110 KByte (default) ------------------------------------------------------------ [ 3] local 192.168.1.2(domU) port 33817 connected with 192.168.1.100(dom0) port 5001 [ 4] local 192.168.1.2(domU) port 5001 connected with 192.168.1.100(dom0) port 48606 [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth [ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 46.3 MBytes 38.7 Mbits/sec [ 3] Sent 33020 datagrams [ 3] Server Report: [ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 46.2 MBytes 38.6 Mbits/sec 0.030 ms 89/33019 (0.27%) [ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 1 datagrams received out-of-order [ 4] 0.0-10.2 sec 43.0 MBytes 35.3 Mbits/sec 13.074 ms 11575/42256 (27%) tl;dr: 27% packet loss from dom0 to domU with 50Mbit UDP packets. Same thing happens from anywhere in the network. The problem gets better for smaller bandwidths (0.047% for 5Mbit) and worse for higher (59% for 200Mbit) ones. I did increase the CPU-weight of the dom0, there is no swapping going on, and actual networking-hardware is not involved. I never expected Xen (or anything related) to drop packets, and I'm completly clueless what to try next.

  • How do you make a private member in the base class become a public member in the base class?

    - by jasonline
    Consider the following code: class Base { void f() { } }; class Derived: public Base { public: }; What can you change in the derived class, such that you can perform the following: Derived d; d.f(); If the member is declared as public in the base class, adding a using declaration for Base::f in the derived class public section would've fix the problem. But if it is declared as private in the base class, this doesn't seem to work.
