  • Steganography Experiment - Trouble hiding message bits in DCT coefficients

    - by JohnHankinson
I have an application requiring me to be able to embed loss-less data into an image. As such I've been experimenting with steganography, specifically via modification of DCT coefficients as the method I select, apart from being loss-less must also be relatively resilient against format conversion, scaling/DSP etc. From the research I've done thus far this method seems to be the best candidate. I've seen a number of papers on the subject which all seem to neglect specific details (some neglect to mention modification of 0 coefficients, or modification of AC coefficient etc). After combining the findings and making a few modifications of my own which include: 1) Using a more quantized version of the DCT matrix to ensure we only modify coefficients that would still be present should the image be JPEG'ed further or processed (I'm using this in place of simply following a zig-zag pattern). 2) I'm modifying bit 4 instead of the LSB and then based on what the original bit value was adjusting the lower bits to minimize the difference. 3) I'm only modifying the blue channel as it should be the least visible. This process must modify the actual image and not the DCT values stored in file (like jsteg) as there is no guarantee the file will be a JPEG, it may also be opened and re-saved at a later stage in a different format. For added robustness I've included the message multiple times and use the bits that occur most often, I had considered using a QR code as the message data or simply applying the reed-solomon error correction, but for this simple application and given that the "message" in question is usually going to be between 10-32 bytes I have plenty of room to repeat it which should provide sufficient redundancy to recover the true bits. No matter what I do I don't seem to be able to recover the bits at the decode stage. I've tried including / excluding various checks (even if it degrades image quality for the time being). I've tried using fixed point vs. double arithmetic, moving the bit to encode, I suspect that the message bits are being lost during the IDCT back to image. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to get this working would be hugely appreciated. (PS I am aware that the actual DCT/IDCT could be optimized from it's naive On4 operation using row column algorithm, or an FDCT like AAN, but for now it just needs to work :) ) Reference Papers: http://www.lokminglui.com/dct.pdf http://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/1006/1006.1186.pdf Code for the Encode/Decode process in C# below: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Drawing.Imaging; using System.Drawing; namespace ImageKey { public class Encoder { public const int HIDE_BIT_POS = 3; // use bit position 4 (1 << 3). public const int HIDE_COUNT = 16; // Number of times to repeat the message to avoid error. // JPEG Standard Quantization Matrix. // (to get higher quality multiply by (100-quality)/50 .. // for lower than 50 multiply by 50/quality. However to get the message to come through without corruption I have to adjust both coefficients as well as swap them. For example swapping (3,4) and (4,3) in the DCT matrix and then respectively adding 8 and subtracting 8 as an arbitrary constant seems to work. This survives a re-JPEG'ing of 96 but any form of scaling/cropping destroys the message again. I was hoping that by operating on mid to low frequency values that the message would be preserved even under some light image manipulation.

  • Ripping MP3s in Rhythmbox Ubuntu 12.10 (64 bit)?

    - by James Fellows Yates
I installed a couple of days ago Ubuntu 12.10 (64 bit). I today tried ripping a CD in the MP3 format. However, whenever I try to rip, it says it is missing an extra multimedia plugin "Gstreamer extra plug-ins (i386)". I then try to install the :i386 version of the gstreamer-ugly plugins, but then I get the same problem but with the id3-demuxer (or something similar) The Terminal output I get from both problems (but replace the "MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) encoder" with the "ID3-demuxer" name) is: james@clefairy:~$ rhythmbox (rhythmbox:24122): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed Rhythmbox-Message: Missing plugin: gstreamer|0.10|rhythmbox|MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) encoder|encoder-audio/mpeg, mpegversion=(int)1, layer=(int)3 /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gobject/constants.py:24: Warning: g_boxed_type_register_static: assertion `g_type_from_name (name) == 0' failed import gobject._gobject It doesn't help that each time I have to install/remove the entire Gstreamer-ugly collection each time - I can't find that specific file. The CD plays fine, it's the ripping plugin that doesn't seem to work. I didn't have this problem previously on 12.04 (64 bit).

  • How to properly translate the "var" result of a lambda expression to a concrete type?

    - by CrimsonX
So I'm trying to learn more about lambda expressions. I read this question on stackoverflow, concurred with the chosen answer, and have attempted to implement the algorithm using a console app in C# using a simple LINQ expression. My question is: how do I translate the "var result" of the lambda expression into a usable object that I can then print the result? I would also appreciate an in-depth explanation of what is happening when I declare the outer => outer.Value.Frequency (I've read numerous explanations of lambda expressions but additional clarification would help) C# //Input : {5, 13, 6, 5, 13, 7, 8, 6, 5} //Output : {5, 5, 5, 13, 13, 6, 6, 7, 8} //The question is to arrange the numbers in the array in decreasing order of their frequency, preserving the order of their occurrence. //If there is a tie, like in this example between 13 and 6, then the number occurring first in the input array would come first in the output array. List<int> input = new List<int>(); input.Add(5); input.Add(13); input.Add(6); input.Add(5); input.Add(13); input.Add(7); input.Add(8); input.Add(6); input.Add(5); Dictionary<int, FrequencyAndValue> dictionary = new Dictionary<int, FrequencyAndValue>(); foreach (int number in input) { if (!dictionary.ContainsKey(number)) { dictionary.Add(number, new FrequencyAndValue(1, number) ); } else { dictionary[number].Frequency++; } } var result = dictionary.OrderByDescending(outer => outer.Value.Frequency); // How to translate the result into something I can print??

  • How to use a variable in a function expression which is injected in a page?

    - by anonymous
I'm trying to inject a function into a webpage via Chrome extension content script by: function inject(code) { var actualCode = '(' + code + ')();'; var script = document.createElement('script'); script.textContent = actualCode; (document.head||document.documentElement).appendChild(script); script.parentNode.removeChild(script); } var myObj = person; // myObj/person is passed in from elsewhere var fn = function() { alert(myObj.name); }; inject(fn); // myObj undefined My issue is, since fn is a function expression, I can't pass in myObj.personName. So my question is, how can I construct a function expression that includes a variable? Do I do some sort of string concatenation instead? I also tried to pass the object to the function, as follows: function inject(code, myObj) { var actualCode = '(' + code + ')(' + myObj +');'; ... But this did not work, and caused a "Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected identifier" error. Related: Building a Chrome Extension - Inject code in a page using a Content script

  • DirectX works for 64-bit but not 32-bit

    - by dtbarne
I'm trying to play a game (Civilization 5) which was previously working but no longer. I believe I've narrowed it down to a DirectX issue because I get an error running dxdiag.exe in 32 bit mode. My goal (at least I believe) is to get Direct3D Acceleration "Enabled" in dxdiag (as it is in 64 bit dxdiag). A very similar issue is here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-gaming/direct3d-acceleration-is-not-available-in-windows/4c345e6e-dc68-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5?page=1 The proposed answer, which looks very promising, doesn't seem to work for me. Like other users in that thread, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Direct3D\Drivers does not have a SoftwareOnly key to change. I even tried manually adding it as a string and dword, to no avail. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M, and before you ask, yes I've tried updating (also uninstalling, reinstalling) my drivers. I've also tried doing the same with DirectX (and Civilization 5 for that matter). Been debugging for some 4+ hours now after a full day of work and I've run out of ideas. I'm hoping somebody knows the solution here! :) Here's what I see when I open dxdiag: DxDiag has detected that there mgiht have been a problem accessing Direct3D the last time this program was used. Would you like to bypass Direct3D this time? No - Crash Yes - Works, but in Display tab: DirectDraw Acceleration: Disabled Direct3D Acceleration: Not Available AGP Texture Acceleration: Not Available If I click "Run 64-bit DxDiag", all three are "Enabled". I should also note that I've tried the following steps as Microsoft suggests, but I'm not able to do so as the "Change Settings" button is disabled. Some programs run very slowly—or not at all—unless Microsoft DirectDraw or Direct3D hardware acceleration is turned on. To determine this, click the Display tab, and then under DirectX Features, check to see whether DirectDraw, Direct3D, and AGP Texture Acceleration appear as Enabled. If not, try turning on hardware acceleration. Click to open Screen Resolution. Click Advanced settings. Click the Troubleshoot tab, and then click Change settings. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider to Full. • JQuery validate: How to add a rule for regular expression validation?

    - by PeterTheNiceGuy
I am new to JQuery and am using the JQuery validation plugin. Great stuff! I want to migrate my existing ASP.NET solution to use JQuery instead of the ASP.NET validators. I am missing a replacement for the regular expression validator. I want to be able to do something like this: $("Textbox").rules("add", { regularExpression: "^[a-zA-Z'.\s]{1,40}$" }) Could anyone give me a hint how to add a custom rule to achieve this?

  • regular expression or replace function in where clause of a mysql query.

  • Way to get logged in user in Expression Engine?

    - by Andrew G. Johnson
Hi all, I am using Expression Engine in part of a site I am developing and other parts are just using my own PHP. My question is how can I tell who the user is logged in as on a non-EE page? I have access to the EE cookies and the EE database but couldn't find a way to use these values to figure out who the user is. I have a list of all the cookie keys/values at: http://andrewgjohnson.com/cookies.html

  • How to parameterize @Scheduled(fixedDelay) with Spring 3.0 expression language?

    - by ngeek
When using the Spring 3.0 capability to annotate the a scheduled task, I would like to set the fixedDelay as parameter from my configuration file, instead of hard-wiring it into my task class, like currently... @Scheduled(fixedDelay=5000) public void readLog() { ... } Unfortunately it seems that with the means of the Spring Expression Language (EL) @Value returns a String object which in turn is not able to be auto-boxed to a long value as required by the fixedDelay parameter. Thanks in advance for your help on this.

  • How do I find multiple matches with one regular expression?

    - by christian studer
I've got the following string: response: id="1" message="whatever" attribute="none" world="hello" The order of the attributes is random. There might be any number of other attributes. Is there a way to get the id, message and world attribute in one regular expression instead of applying the following three one after another? / message="(.*?)"/ / world="(.*?)"/ / id="(.*?)"/

  • How can I use Perl's s/// in an expression?

    - by mikeY
I got a headache looking for this: How do you use s/// in an expression as opposed to an assignment. To clarify what I mean, I'm looking for a perl equivalent of python's re.sub(...) when used in the following context: newstring = re.sub('ab', 'cd', oldstring) The only way I know how to do this in perl so far is: $oldstring =~ s/ab/cd/; $newstring = $oldstring; Note the extra assignment.

  • ssh-rsa public key validation using a regular expression.

    - by Warlax
What regular expression can I use (if any) to validate that a given string is a legal ssh rsa public key? I only need to validate the actual key - I don't care about the key type the precedes it or the username comment after it. Ideally, someone will also provide the python code to run the regex validation. Thanks.

  • Do I use a regular expression on this file path?

    - by uno
I have to strip a file path and get the parent folder. Say my path is \\ServerA\FolderA\FolderB\File.jpg I need to get File Name = File.jog Folder it resides in = FolderB And parent folder = FolderA I always have to go 2 levels up from where the file resides. Is there an easier way or is a regular expression the way to go?

  • How do I create a regular expression to match a word misspelling the original case sensitivity?

    - by Patrick Allaert
I want to discover wrong spelling of "FooBar" in sentence: "This is a 'FooBar' example where I should match different spelling of fooBar such as: foobar, FOOBAR or even fOoBaR but not foobarS!" In this sentence, I would like to match words (in order): fooBar, foobar, FOOBAR, fOoBaR and not: FooBar (correct spelling), foobarS (not the same word) Is there an existing solution using Perl Regular Expression? This is intended to be used with grep -P Thanks

  • RegExp to validate a formula (string/boolean/numeric expression)?

    - by JSteve
I have used regExp quit a bit of times but still far from being an expert. This time I want to validate a formula (or math expression) by regExp. The difficult part here is to validate proper starting and ending parentheses with in the formula. I believe, there would be some sample on the web but I could not find it. Can somebody post a link for such example? or help me by some other means?
