• I want files in fat32 partition to be shown in My personal folder

  I have a 25gig partition in ext4 for ubuntu, an NTFS 25gig partition for W7,a logical swap of 2gig, and then a logical 60 gig partition in fat32 which i've read is the correct file system for files as music, pics, videos i want to share with Windows. The problem is that those files are not "asociated" or shown in My personal folder, and it would be great to. I hope I get your answers asap. Thanks

• Add AD Domain user to sudoers from the command line

  I'm setting up an Ubuntu 11.04 server VM for use as a database server. It would make everyone's lives easier if we could have folks login using windows credentials and perhaps even make the machine work with the current AD-driven security we've got elsewhere. The first leg of this was really easy to accomplish -- apt-get install likewise-open and I was pretty much in business. The problem I'm having is getting our admins into the sudoers groups -- I can't seem to get anything to take. I've tried: a) usermod -aG sudoers [username] b) adding the user names in several formats (DOMAIN\user, user@domain) to the sudoers file. None of which seemed to take, I still get told "DOMAIN\user is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported." So, how do I add non-local users to the sudoers?

• Deleted some files from home folder

  I have recently installed Ubuntu for the first time in my life. So I am fairly new to it. I have deleted some files from my home folder. But now the problems have started. The system volume automatically reduces to zero. Further, as soon as I restarted my system, my panel settings we restored to default. When I right click in my home folder, it gives an option of 'restore missing files' but I am not able to restore them. Please guide me how to restore them. Thanks Narendra

• SEO Pros and cons of having your blog in a subdirectory or subdomain

  From an SEO point of view is it better to have your blog running as part of your site (ie. /blog) so that it will be generating more content for the site OR is it better to have it running as a subdomain (ie. blog.) of your main site (correct me if im wrong but google sees subdomains as seperate site ?) so that it would be getting lots of external links from my blog, but then again, it would be generating no extra content for my main site.

  I have a problem when using WAMP while designing and coding my site. Well, I have a local version of Wordpress installed in WAMP and use it as a tool to see my changes when coding. I also have the same files uploaded to some free hosting. The problem is when I want to access for example http://localhost/contact. Browser gives me a 404 error. As I said, the same files (exact copy from my PC) are on the web here and when I go to http://thefalljourneyindia.iblogger.org/contact it opens the page fine (without the style of course because I haven't made one yet). Why is that and how do I get to see all of my pages locally like I can when the WP installation is online?

• Handling Indirection and keeping layers of method calls, objects, and even xml files straight

  How do you keep everything straight as you trace deeply into a piece of software through multiple method calls, object constructors, object factories, and even spring wiring. I find that 4 or 5 method calls are easy to keep in my head, but once you are going to 8 or 9 calls deep it gets hard to keep track of everything. Are there strategies for keeping everything straight? In particular, I might be looking for how to do task x, but then as I trace down (or up) I lose track of that goal, or I find multiple layers need changes, but then I lose track of which changes as I trace all the way down. Or I have tentative plans that I find out are not valid but then during the tracing I forget that the plan is invalid and try to consider the same plan all over again killing time.... Is there software that might be able to help out? grep and even eclipse can help me to do the actual tracing from a call to the definition but I'm more worried about keeping track of everything including the de-facto plan for what has to change (which might vary as you go down/up and realize the prior plan was poor). In the past I have dealt with a few big methods that you trace and pretty much can figure out what is going on within a few calls. But now there are dozens of really tiny methods, many just a single call to another method/constructor and it is hard to keep track of them all.

  Specifically, I'm installing Kubuntu 12.04 over 13.04. And in fact I've already done it, and it seems to have at least mostly worked, but I'm wondering whether this one anomaly is likely to be attributable to the downgrade; to wit: I have no window borders|decorations, but only wide, featureless, white---or sometimes black---margins around all my windows. None of the settings in System Settings (the window border and decorations options are in Workspace Appearance) seem to have any effect. Is this likely to be fixable, or should I cut my losses and reinstall (formatting the /home partition and restoring any data with rsync)?

If we need to grant permission to a user, we then add the user to the correct AD group. But end user reports that by adding a user to an AD group, this user does not have any access to the SharePoint site. Solution: Change the AD Group scope from Global to Universal fix the problem.   I have collected many free themes from around internet. Each of them has a screenshot.jpg or png file on their folder. I want to scan all the folders for that file, and return the full file path to be used with an img html tag. I am not interested on partial path or folders where there are not screenshots. For example, if my fodler structure is: ./a/b/ ./c/d/e/screenshot.jpg ./f/ ./g/screenshot.jpg ./h/i/j/k/ ./l/m/screenshot.png ./n/o/ ./p/screenshot.jpg I want to get: ./c/d/e/screenshot.jpg ./g/screenshot.jpg ./l/m/screenshot.png ./p/screenshot.jpg I managed somehow to get a recursive function, but I figured only the way to return an array and then i can't get rid of what I don't need, and I miss png. • Enabling support of EUS and Fusion Apps in OUD

  Since the 11gR2 release, OUD supports Enterprise User Security (EUS) for database authentication and also Fusion Apps. I'll plan to blog on that soon. Meanwhile, the R2 OUD graphical setup does not let you configure both EUS and FusionApps support at the same time. However, it can be done manually using the dsconfig command line. The simplest way to proceed is to select EUS from the setup tool, then manually add support for Fusion Apps using dsconfig using the commands below: - create a FA workflow element with eusWfe as next element: dsconfig create-workflow-element \           --set enabled:true \           --set next-workflow-element:Eus0 \           --type fa \           --element-name faWfe - modify the workflow so that it starts from your FA workflow element instead of Eus: dsconfig set-workflow-prop \           --workflow-name userRoot0 \           --set workflow-element:faWfe  Note: the configuration changes may slightly differ in case multiple databases/suffixes are configured on OUD.

• Insanity joining Server 12.04 to Windows AD

  I've seen lots of stuff about this error on the internet, but had no luck implementing a solution. I'm trying to use Likewise-Open to join an Ubuntu Server 12.04 machine to a Windows Active Dicrectory domain controller and having absolutely no luck. I run: sudo domainjoin-cli join my.domain.gob ADMINISTRATOR and get back (after putting in the admin password): Error: DNS_ERROR_BAD_PACKET [code 0x0000251e] A bad packet was recieved from a DNS server. Potentially the requested address does not exist. I have heard that WAD insists on being your only nameserver, and in attempts to make that work, I've tried editing /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/network/interfaces but none of that has worked either. Ideas?

• Forcing a Service to Restart at Boot

  So I use winbind and samba to connect to an AD domain at work, and one of my ubuntu machines has been having issues. At boot, I cannot log in as an AD user, but if I log in as the local user and do a sudo service winbind restart it works fine. Yes, winbind does start at boot, although for some reason incorrectly I think. I can't tell anything from the logs, and I'm just wondering how to force winbind to restart after it starts the first time, at boot. Thanks!

• Is /home encryption useful on a server?

  I've got a question about the use of encryption: I set up a Ubuntu 12.04 server to use it as a router, file server for backups and webserver. Of course, it is probably not the best idea to put backups on the same system as a web server, but it is only for private usage and I don't want to spend too much money. So I thought it is not a bad idea to set up /home-encryption for the backup-user-account with which I do my backups. But in the same moment, another quesiton arises: Does it still makes sense? Via SSH, root login is disabled. And access to the /home-folder of that user is reduced to the user itself. So the only scenario to access the /home-folder is to connect keyboard/display to the server, login as root and change to /home. Or have I overseen a scenario? In case I am right, you can only access the /home-folder from "outside" as the backup-user. But than, encryption also doesn't make sense anymore. Am I right about that thoughts? Or do you still see a way to access the /home-folder of the backup user so that encryption still makes sense? Thanks for your help in advance!

• Why is my partition claiming to be out of space?

  My file system claims to only have 4.5 GB left. While my OS (a folder with in file system) still has 75.2 GB left. I put something near 130 GB on my Ubuntu partition, it should have enough space. I confirmed that I can put things in OS that exceed the space in available file systems, but that makes no sense, OS is listed as a folder inside of file system, why would it have more space than it's parent folder? What is going on?   I have read Principles for the Agile Architect, where they defined next principles : Principle #1 The teams that code the system design the system. Principle #2 Build the simplest architecture that can possibly work. Principle #3 When in doubt, code it out. Principle #4 They build it, they test it. Principle #5 The bigger the system, the longer the runway. Principle #6 System architecture is a role collaboration. Principle #7 There is no monopoly on innovation. The paper says that most of the architecture design is done during the coding phase, and only system design before that. That is fine. So, how is the system design done? Using UML? Or a document that defines interfaces and major blocks? Maybe something else?

  i tried everything since days, now i ask. i got a ubuntu system on my old hdd, wich is connectet via usb to this system and a sdd is build in my notebook. at the moment i am running a ubuntusystem from an usb stick. it have tried to clone my disk(cahnge uiid, etc), to transport the data via deja dup and much more. the result was nothing or strange things. my idea is to copy the important data form the old system to the new(home and whatever), but it is not allowed to do this. somebody her who know a tool wich can do this, or got an an other idea.

• Impossible to select folders and files with mouse (Ubuntu 12.04)

  First-time post for me here (after being a regular reader for two years though) so thank you all for the quality of replies and help provided. My problem is very simple apparently but a tricky one. I just installed the Ubuntu 12.04(1) along with the Gnome3-shell environment on my new pc desktop Acer Aspire X3995 (see config below). Everything work (more or less) so far (I still have problems of sound and disabled 2-fingers gestures with my screen -- which I will have to deal with xconfig settings I think -- though), but the main problem is that I cannot select files/folders with my USB mouse. When I try to double click on them, nothing happen (sometimes one folder or file is selected but then unselected again). Note that the navigation works perfectly from the USB keyboard and from the touch-screen (I am using a 23" wide touch-screen Acer Monitor T231Hbmid). Also, the mouse works perfectly with other menu navigation, with the only difference that the text of certain menus is selected as if I was holding the left click on them. So I assume the problem is only related to the mouse. Needless to say that the usual basic hardware checks have been performed (unplugging, powered-off, etc.). My level is simply "advanced user", meaning that if you provide me with intelligible input I should find my way, but please don't expect too much technical/specific knowledge... :) Please let me know if you need more information on this bug. • forbidden foldername?

  I have a little webserver i run to help me at work. in an effort to neaten up the internal bits, I made a forlder named "doc" for documents. When i try to navigate to that folder i get "You don't have permission to access /doc/ on this server." so then, i looked at the permissions. drwxrwxr-x 2 J0h J0h 4096 Nov 7 22:46 doc/ drwxrwxr-x 5 J0h J0h 4096 Nov 6 12:35 ece/ drwxrwxr-x 2 J0h J0h 4096 Nov 6 12:35 exe/ permissions of "doc" looks legit. ece/ and exe both work, and have the same permissions. So then I changed the name of the folder "doc" to "docs" and it works. So evidently the folder-name doc is a black listed folder name? is that right? what is going one here?

  Why does the /usr/bin/x11 folder hold another x11 folder and when you open that === x11 you get another x11 and then another and another??? I did it about 6 times and got frustrated so I have no idea how deep this goes but What is the purpose (or is it a glich?)? Is this eating disk space more than it should? (I was going to delete one or more but thought I better ask first before I end up !fucked ) and finally Is it just me and I am going crazy maybe the pills are wearing off or maybe they are kicking in.. I am not sure but an answer would help. I can see no reason why this should be happening at all.

• New Exchange 2010 CAS cannot find domain controllers

  I am experiencing problems migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. I am on the first step: installing a new 2010 Client Access Server role. The Active Directory domain functional level is 2003. All domain controllers are 2003 R2. The only existing Exchange 2003 server happens to be housed on one of the domain controllers. It is running Exchange 2003 Standard w/ SP2. IPv6 is enabled and working on all domain controllers, servers, and routers, including this new Exchange server. After installing the CAS role on a new 2008 R2 server (Hyper-V VM) I am receiving 2114 Events: Process MSEXCHANGEADTOPOLOGYSERVICE.EXE (PID=1600). Topology discovery failed, error 0x80040a02 (DSC_E_NO_SUITABLE_CDC). Look up the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) error code specified in the event description. To do this, use Microsoft Knowledge Base article 218185, "Microsoft LDAP Error Codes." Use the information in that article to learn more about the cause and resolution to this error. Use the Ping or PathPing command-line tools to test network connectivity to local domain controllers. Prior to each, I receive the following 2080 Event: Process MSEXCHANGEADTOPOLOGYSERVICE.EXE (PID=1600). Exchange Active Directory Provider has discovered the following servers with the following characteristics: (Server name | Roles | Enabled | Reachability | Synchronized | GC capable | PDC | SACL right | Critical Data | Netlogon | OS Version) In-site: b.company.intranet CDG 1 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 s.company.intranet CDG 1 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 Out-of-site: a.company.intranet CD- 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 o.company.intranet CD- 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 g.company.intranet CD- 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Connectivity between the new Exchange server and all domain controllers via IPv4 and IPv6 are all working. I have verified that the new Exchange server is a member of the following groups: Exchange Servers Exchange Domain Servers Exchange Install Domain Servers Exchange Trusted Subsystem Heck, I even put the new Exchange server into Domain Admins just to see if it would help. It didn't. I can't find any evidence of Active Directory replication problems, all pre-setup Setup tasks (/PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions, /PrepareSchema, /PrepareAD, /PrepareDomain) completed successfully. The only problem so far that I haven't been able to resolve with my Active Directory is I am unable to get my IPv6 subnets into Sites and Services Where should I proceed from here?
