IE performance issues with offsetHeight and offsetWidth

I have a site that grabs the response text from an AJAX call and does 'innerHTML' on a div that is going to contain it. After I do the 'innerHTML' I process the DIV by traversing the whole hierarchy of nodes and grabbing their [offsetWidth/offsetHeight] to do some operations with it. Why not css style width/height? because sometimes those values are not available since I don't control what is coming from the AJAX response, plus I want the real box dimensions including borders/scrolls/padding. On large injections (let's say 7,000 new DOM elements) IE takes way longer time than FF/Safari just to get this [offsetWidth/offsetHeight], actually if I wasn't doing injection but just render the contents of the HTML in the browser and processing it, it would be much faster. But that is not an option since I have to inject it on a div that will contain it. Anybody has deal with this kind of issue before? is there an alternative to innerHTML, I have try using documentFragment to inject and process and the move it to the div and still I don't see much gain. How can I get the values that are available with [offsetWidth/offsetHeight]? Thanks a bunch for any suggestions. Paul

Python GUI Scraper hanging issues.

I wrote a scraper using python a while back, and it worked fine in the command line. I have made a GUI for the application now, but I am having trouble with one issue. When I attempt to update text inside the gui (e.g. 'fetching URL 12/50'), I am unable seeing as the function within the scraper is grabbing 100+ links. Also when going from one scraping function, to a function that should update the gui, to another function, the gui update function seems to be skipped over while the next scrape function is run. An example would be: scrapeLinksA() #takes 20 seconds updateInfo("LinksA done") scrapeLinksB() #takes another 20 seconds in the above example, updateInfo is never executed, unless I end the program with a KeyboardInterrupt. I'm thinking my solution is threading, but I'm not sure. What can I do to fix this? I am using: PyQt4 urllib2 BeautifulSoup

9patch border issues

Is there a trick to making 9patch images with single pixel borders? I'm not talking about the single pixel black borders that you use to define the stretchable and content areas. I'm talking about the image itself. If I create an image that has a 1 pixel border around it, often times android will pick one of the edges and stretch it to 2 (or sometimes more) pixels, even though I specifically left the edges out of the stretchable area in the draw9patch utility.

Action bar with Search View. Reverse compatibility issues

I am building a sample app to demonstrate SearchView with filter and other Action Bar items. I am able to successfully run this app on 4.2(Nexus 7). But it is not running on 2.3. I googled about the issue. Came to know that i should use SherLock Action bar. I just went to http://actionbarsherlock.com/download.html, downloaded the zip file and added the library as informed in the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GJ6yY1lNNY&feature=player_embedde by WiseManDesigns. But still I am unable to figure out the issue. My FORM problem issues

Klik for at skrive</textarea><br /> Ja: <input type="checkbox" value="Y" id="SCvote" name="SCvote"> eller Nej: <input type="checkbox" value="N" name="SCvote"> Now onfocus (when you click on the box) it clears the text "Skriv hvorfor...", but if you dont write anything and still submit it, my php code thinks it contains something and inserts that text "Skriv hvorfor...". And another issue is the checkboxes. If i dont pick anything, it inserts "Y", even if i pick the other "N" it does "Y", and i dont want it to be possible that you can check both of them. how do i do?

Maven Release Plugin with JAXB issues

Hiya, We've got a project set up to use the Maven Release Plugin which includes a phase that unpacks a JAR of XML schemas pulled from Artifactory and a phase that generates XJC classes. We're on maven release 2.2.1. Unfortunately the latter phase is executing before the former which means that it isn't generating the XJC classes for the schema. Entity Framework and stored procedure returning temp table Issues

(Disclaimer - I'm not the database designer. I'm just the poor developer what has to make this work.) There are 17 (at the moment) tables with identical structure - name, address, phone number. Given a phone number, I have to check to see if there's a matching entry in any of the tables, then return that address. So, I created a view to get the list of tables (there's a ref table that holds that info), then I created a stored procedure to create a temp table, using cursors, check each table in the view for the phone number, using sql concatenation. If a record is found, insert it into the temp table. return the rows from the temp table. This all works in straight T-SQL. Now, I'm trying to use Entity Framework 4+ to call the stored procedure. But the function import interface won't generate columns. It says return type = none, and the LINQ code expects an int and won't compile. Any ideas on how to make this work? I know I can move the check tables part to code, if I absolutely have to, but I'd rather have the above method work.

If I call "[NSString stringWithFormat:@"Testing \n %@",variableString]"; I get what I would expect, which is Testing, followed by a new line, then the contents of variableString. However, if i try NSString *testString = @"Testing \n %@"; //forgive shorthand here [NSString stringWithFormat,testString,variableString] the output actually literally writes \n to the screen instead of a newline. any workaround to this? seems odd to me

Jquery mouseover event issues

Hi I am currently working on a project where I am using jQuery to animate a block of text on mouse over. The event listener is on the containing div (as shown by the code below) and works really well until the mouse is over the title (.views-field-title) which is absolutely above the containing div. The animation begins to jump almost as though it is starting over? Aggregate Pattern and Performance Issues

Hello, I have read about the Aggregate Pattern but I'm confused about something here. The pattern states that all the objects belonging to the aggregate should be accessed via the Aggregate Root, and not directly. And I'm assuming that is the reason why they say you should have a single Repository per Aggregate. But I think this adds a noticeable overhead to the application. For example, in a typical Web-based application, what if I want to get an object belonging to an aggregate (which is NOT the aggregate root)? I'll have to call Repository.GetAggregateRootObject(), which loads the aggregate root and all its child objects, and then iterate through the child objects to find the one I'm looking for. In other words, I'm loading lots of data and throwing them out except the particular object I'm looking for. Is there something I'm missing here? PS: I know some of you may suggest that we can improve performance with Lazy Loading. But that's not what I'm asking here... The aggregate pattern requires that all objects belonging to the aggregate be loaded together, so we can enforce business rules.

CKEditor Modal Issues.

So I'm using CKeditor inside of a jQueryUI dialog. The issue I'm having is when you click on a button like the "link" button, the modal that pops up, won't let me type anything into it's inputs. I can change the values of the pull downs, I can drag the modal around the screen, and I can click on the buttons. But when I attempt to type into the text inputs, nothing happens. Has anyone else come across this? If so, did they find a solution? Thanks! Maybe this has something to do with it? http://dev.jqueryui.com/ticket/4309 But I'm using 1.7.2...

Expression Encoder SDK - WMA Pro Codec Issues with Windows Server 2003

I am using the Expression Encoder SDK to encode .avi and Flash files to a .wmv format suitable for Silverlight. By default, EE encodes files with audio using the the WMA PRO codec. If you are running Windows Server 2003, this is a problem as it doesn't support the WMA PRO codec and produces and error message similar to the following. Error Message: The Audio Profile settings do not match a valid system profile. Error Source: Microsoft.Expression.Encoder Error Target Site: System.String GetProfileString() I am looking for a way to change the default audio codec to something suitable for WS 2003. I am aware that although not supported natively, there is a highly invasive way to install Windows Media Player 11 and it's codecs on WS 2003 but this involves registry tinkering and other hacks not suitable for our production environments so that solution is out.

UIPickerView issues - iphone

I have the following: - (NSInteger) numberOfComponentsInPickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView { return 2; } - (NSInteger) pickerView:(UIPickerView *) pickerView numberOfRowsInComponent:(NSInteger) component { return [genderPickerData count]; return [agePickerData count]; } When I do this, the UIPicker is split into 2 components, but the PickerData is only being represented for gender on both pickers. I am trying to figure out through Apple's confusing documentation on how I reference each individual component but can't seem to figure it out.

Has anyone gotten UIFileSharingEnabled or CFBundleDocumentTypes to work? I added UIFileSharingEnabled as true to my plist and used Apple's example from the link below for CFBundleDocumentTypes, but can't seem to get it to work. Singleton Issues in iOS http client

I implemented an HTTP client is iOS that is meant to be a singleton. When I step through code, I notice that it locks on dispatch_once and then remains frozen. Is this something to do with the main thread locking down? How come it stays locked like that? Also, none of the HTTP client methods fire. hi I want to build a site that will have these restrictions: RTL direction vertical scroll on the right side whole page is floating to the right page has 2 columns the right (main) column has min width the right (main) column has table inside it that can expend in its data and get wider making all other data in the column expend to the same width as well the sidebar should be on the left side but still floating to the right of the main div it should fit low resolution so the page will be able to add horizontal scroll if needed should work in all major browsers don't use table for constructing the page Can someone help or direct me? Update I am making this a community wiki, for three reasons: I don't feel like I got a definitive answer, but I have long since stopped needing an answer, because I rolled my own accordion function this question gets tons of views, so clearly lots of people are still interested So if anybody wants to change/clarify this question and make it a definitive guide, be my guest. I'm working on a page using jQuery's accordion UI element. I modeled my HTML on that example, except that inside the <li> elements, I have some unordered lists of links. Specifically, one accordion menu on the page moves jerkily and has flashes of content. I know that it's not a CSS issue because the same thing happens if I don't include my CSS files. The other accordion menu on the page opens the first section you click and, after that, won't open any of them. Both of these problems are IE-specific, and both go away if I use the option animated: false. But I'd like to keep the default slide animation, since it helps the user understand what the menu is doing. Is there another way?

Custom Rails actions: I have issues every time

Every time I go to add a custom action to a controller, I completely screw it up somehow. I'm trying to add a route "listings/buyer_listings", that will display all of my listings where someone is a buyer (rather than a seller). With the routes.rb file below, when I go to "listings/buyer_listings", I get routed instead to "users" WTF? In the past, I've had to define my routes using "map.", but this seems like a very verbose way to do something that should work with the :collection specification. You can see that I've done this with many routes as specified toward the end of the file, such as "edit_my_profile", etc. If I put the ":collection" part last my browser routes to the "show" action, which is not the correct action, and which also doesn't make sense to me why it would even do this. If I do "rake routes", my routes look correctly mapped. If I go into a Ruby console and have it recognize the url, it maps to the correct action, so what am I missing? Issues with RegularExpressionValidator in VB .NET 2005 using ASP File Uploader

I'm looking to validate a single word: detail (upper/lower/mix-case) prior to submitting my VB .NET 2005 page. I used Regex Builder and the below code validates, but it's not working in my web page... Does anyone have any ideas? jQuery.post() issues with passing data to jQuery UI

Hello, I am trying to get jQuery.post() to run my php script and then open a jQuery UI dialog with the data that php script returns. Its supposed to come back as a form with a table and a textarea in it. It works great with alert(data); and i get a pop-up with all my data. The problem starts if i turn off alert(). Now it opens 2 dialogs. One containing only the table, without textarea, and the second one absolutely empty. What am i doing wrong here? How come all my data shows up in the alert(), but not in dialog? What do i need to do to fix it? Oh, and do i need to also include $.ajax() before the $.post()? Zend_ACL isAllowed causes issues with dojo

Hi all, I got an issue setting up Zend_Acl, I got it pretty well setup and running but I realised that in some forms where I'm using zend_dojo, dojo doesn't actualy gets loaded. Without going to I have setup my access list, as soon as I call the line isAllowed with the name of the resource taken from the request object, dojo is not loaded (I think) This is the code that breaks dojo: class MyPluginAcl extends Zend_Controller_Plugin_Abstract { public function __construct(Zend_Acl $acl) { $this->_acl = $acl; } public function preDispatch(Zend_Controller_Request_Abstract $request) { ..... $role = "guest" $resource = $request->getControllerName(); var_dump($resource) //Returns string(10)'myresource' $action = $request->getActionName(); if (!$this->_acl->isAllowed($role, $resource,$action)){ //Code to redirect somewhere } ...... } The thing that doesn't make sense are the following: If I do a var_dump($resource) I get a string(10)'myresource', still doesn't work If I set the $resource to be $resource = new Zend_Acl_Resource($request->getControllerName()); still doesn't work , but If I set $resource to have a string value, this whole thing works (eg. $resources = "myresource; it works. Any ideas ... Thanks

Trying to get a json result back from method in another namespace, having issues

I have a seperate .js file and namespace for json requests. I have another .js file and namespace for the actual logic. I can't seem to get the result back in my logic layer. var jsonResult = Blah.Data.LoadAggregates(); alert(jsonResult); alert(jsonResult.d.length); alert(jsonResult.length); all of the above calls are returning undefined.
