  • OSX esc key stops working (randomly)

    I have a 2011 macbook Air with OS X Mountain Lion (I've upgraded from Lion). And ever since upgrading my escape key randomly stops working. And it's not that the keyboard on the laptop would be damaged as the same happens if I use apple's bluetooth keyboard. So I'm guessing it's a software issue. Also in some cases pressing ctrl+esc achieves the same thing as just esc so I'm 100% it's not a hardware problem. Does anybody have any idea what this might be all about and how to fix it? edit: the escape key stops working completely but it starts working again after I restart the computer. edit2: this usually happens after the computer wakes from sleep. So it's not like that is just stopps working in the middle of using it, but rather after I put it to sleep (or just close the lid) and then open it again. Has nobody got the same issue? Is there a better place to ask OSX related questions than SuperUser maybe?

  • Unable to boot with Windows 2008 DVD / USB Key

    Hi everyone, I am trying to install Windows 2008 server on a HP Proliant DL180 G5. There is no built-in DVD reader so I need to use my LaCie USB one. When I put the CD in and boot from the USB DVD on the server, I get the error message: Boot Failed! Please insert boot media in selected boot device. So I tried with another Windows bootable CD and still no luck. What I've done then, I copied the installation DVD on my 16go USB key. Again, impossible to boot from the USB Key. I have 2 147go SAS 15k HDD on my server. They are not showing in the Bios. I was wondering if this is a reason why nothing will boot on it. I am trying to find a way to deploy Windows 2008 server on my HP server as soon as possible. If you guys have ideas, feel free to let me know :) Best regards, David.   • Requiring SSH-key Login From Specific IP Ranges

    I need to be able to access my server (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS) from remote sites, but I'd like to worry a bit less about password complexity. Thus, I'd like to require that SSH keys be used for login instead of name/password. However, I still have a lot to learn about security, and having already badly broken a test box when I was trying to set this up, I'm acutely aware of the chance of screwing myself while trying to accomplish this. So I have a second goal: I'd like to require that certain IP ranges (e.g. 10.0.0.0/8) may log in with name/password, but everyone else must use an SSH key to log in. How can I satisfy both of these goals? There already exists a very similar question here, but I can't quite figure out how to get to what I want from that information. Current tactic: reading through the PAM documentation (pam_access looks promising) and looking at /etc/ssh/sshd_config. Edit: Alternatively, is there a way to specify that certain users must authenticate with SSH keys, and others may authenticate with name/password? Solution that's currently working: # Globally deny logon via password, only allow SSH-key login. PasswordAuthentication no # But allow connections from the LAN to use passwords. Match Address 192.168.*.* PasswordAuthentication yes The Match Address block can also usefully be a Match User block, answering my secondary question. For now I'm just chalking the failure to parse CIDR addresses up to a quirk of my install, and resolving to try again when I go to Ubuntu 10.04 not too long from now. PAM turns out not to be necessary.

  • Why is windows 7 rejecting my key?

    I'm extremely confused. I have a genuine key and CD (I can take photos) and I am trying to install windows on my new tower. I believe this would be the 3rd PC i installed it (old, laptop now new tower). However i did change the HDD once but i doubt windows would think its a different computer bc of that. After going through phone activation it said i installed it on to many pcs..... i'm extremely confused. I'll be happy to deactivate it off my old tower if i knew how. I already grabbed all the files off of it. I tried to look up the amount of boxes i can install windows home premium on and found this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7_editions What stuck out was this Maximum physical CPUs supported[40] 1 1 1 2 2 2 My new tower has 4cores (its the intel i7) but has two threads each so it sees 8. Does that have anything to do with this? But apparently ultimate supports '2'. I'm sure windows support more than 2 cpus so... what gives? Actually its physically one CPU so i guess the number of cores doesn't matter? Why is windows 7 rejecting my key?

  • Gerrit ssh key setup on windows server

    I am attempting to configure google's 'Gerrit' code review web app on a Windows server 2008 virtual machine on our internal network. We are using Apache Tomcat (6.0.36) to host the web app and have deployed the gerrit.war to tomcats webapp folder, setup the context.xml, web.xml etc for the web app correctly i believe. However when i startup Tomcat using the $CATALINA_HOME/bin/startup.bat i get the following message in the tomcat logs: *Dec 07, 2012 1:03:54 PM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext listenerStart SEVERE: Exception sending context initialized event to listener instance of class com.google.gerrit.httpd.WebAppInitializer com.google.inject.CreationException: Guice creation errors:* 1) No SSH keys under C:\Gerrit\config\etc while locating com.google.gerrit.sshd.HostKeyProvider at com.google.gerrit.sshd.SshModule.configure(SshModule.java:90) I have created a is_rsa.pub SSH key and placed it in the specified directory to no avail. I have been googling this for about a week now and can't seem to find any information about the file or format it is expecting... documentation on setting gerrit up on windows seems hard to come by! Can anyone provide useful information about how to correctly configure a host SSH key in this context?

    I've had a look around on the official Adobe Shop website, but I couldn't find a clear answer for this.. I am a freelance developer and I have recently purchased Adobe Photoshop CS6 through the Adobe.com (small/medium business site, volume licensing). However, after downloading and installing it a couple of days ago, I realised that I may require the complete 'Adobe Creative Suite 6' instead. Does anyone out there know if this it is possible to upgrade your purchase, and not just the specific product you've bought previously? I guess I'm looking for something along the lines of 'Complete My Album', but for Adobe software, so that I don't end up with two copies of Photoshop. Thanks :)

  • Oracle licensing /pricing ?

    Question: I'd like to download Oracle 11g database for evaluation purposes. Now I found this link for downloads: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html But it says one must register 'for accessing premium contents'. But in the same time, it looks like one can download the full database for free. But surely, Oracle doesn't give it for free, but in the registration, there's no mention of any cost/fees, or any billing address. Is this registration free, or as 'premium' suggests, will you get a bill for it if you do (supposed you enter true data) ? Or how does Oracle handle licensing/payment ? I can not see any price tag there anywhere, nor any information on it on that registration page.

  • Access keystore on Sun ONE Webserver 6.1 for 2048 bit key length SSL

    We want to get 2048 bit key length CSR requests. The browser based GUI provides us with a 1024 bit CSR and I don't know how to change that. It seems that 1024 bit key lengths will no longer supported by SSL companies. (Lower cost options only support 2048 bit. Thawte who is much more expensive say they accept 1024 for only one or two year certificates, but not 3). The legacy systems in question are running Sun ONE Webserver 6.1. Upgrading would be time consuming and we would rather not have to do that right now. We will be phasing these out but it will take awhile, so...   • Windows 7 upgrade licensing

    I'm having trouble wading through Microsoft's marketing information. Does anyone know if Windows 7 x86 to Windows 7 x64 is a valid upgrade path? I know you can't actually use the built-in "upgrade" installation path; this is more of a licensing question. Although that may have answered my own question: is this idea even possible? Or do "upgrade" versions of Windows function only when executed from inside the OS, and not when doing fresh installs? Thanks!

  • Accessing the Local System Account to accept a software licence

    Hi All, I have a server at the moment running ColdFusion which is being used to access a windows whois program on the server. Each time I call this command via ColdFusion (using cfexecute) the command times out. I believe the issue is because the first time a user runs the .exe file they are asked to accept the licence. ColdFusion is currently set to run under the Local System account and I am just wondering if it is possible to somehow log into this account and run the program manually via the console so that I can accept the licence. I guess my only other option is to change the account ColdFusion runs under, but I would rather not do this.

  • Touchpad does not respond when I am holding key on the keyboard

    I am experiencing strange problem with using my touchpad and keyboard simultaneously under Windows 7. I have HP tx2550ew (convertible tablet), and when I hold some key under Windows 7 (eg. space, a, s etc.), the touchpad seems to be blocking. I spotted this while playing Counter Strike. I am not playing much games, and I haven't been playing CS since January, so I am not sure when it started behaving like that. I have tested it also outside the game - when I hold space (eg. when on some web page and entering text into input field) or some letter key, the cursor is not able to move. The problem seems to not be occuring when I hold Shift, Ctrl nor Alt. Did any of you experience similar problem? Do you know what may have caused this? Is there any way I could check what is wrong with my laptop? I have been looking for a solution, but it seems I haven't been looking in right places. This is why I ask question here. Ps. I am unable to test whether this is touchpad-specific, because I have no mouse at my disposal at the moment (got used to touchpad so much I even find it more efficient and haven't been using a mouse with my laptop for months).

  • Microsoft CALs for Domain Controller

    I am designing a network and I've come to the point of specifying out the number of CALs required for this network. Microsoft licensing has always confused me, it's just not always clear to me. I plan to have 1 2008 std domain controller, another 2008 server (not a domain controller) and 200 Windows 7 devices connected to the domain for domain services. The 200 W7 devices will all authenticate to the domain controller with the same domain account. (this is a special type of network, not a user workstation network) Therefore, do I need to purchase 200 CALS for the 200 devices, or can I purchase say 10 CALS (user CALS) as the amount of unique user accounts is very low.   • Is this a legitimate registry key? (windows 7)

    In hkey_local_machine/software/classes I found some registry keys named msime.taiwan, msime.japan and a couple others with similar names, except with a number at the end of, so there was 4 keys altogether. From what I know itmcoulc be associated with a thing in windows that lets you write japanese characters or whatever. I also found a macaffee page, , which seemed dated but it said the key is created by a virus named w32 virut. Just wondering is this a legit key? I found it on another pc and both pcs show when exported to a .txt show it was last written to in 2009. Here is the reg query for the 4 keys. (added lines to differentiate them.)   • Encrypting Files with AES, Encrypting Key with RSA - Am I on the right track?

    Overview: I'm trying to design an application that will encrypt files to safely send through the mail. I'm planning on using AES/RijndaelManaged encryption from .Net to encrypt the files initially, using a randomly generated key using RNGCryptoServiceProvider. I'm then encrypting this random AES key with a RSA Public key. The receiver of the data is the only one with the RSA Private key to decrypt it. My question: Is this the proper way to do something like this? If so, is it safe to send this RSA-Encrypted key with the data since it requires the private key to decrypt? Also - when having the end user generate their Public/Private key pair, what is the best way to save the Private key? I do not want it to be only accessible from one machine, so I am trying to avoid using the user's key store. But MSDN says it is not safe to save the key to a file, so how else can you accomplish this?

  • Restricting Input in HTML Textboxes to Numeric Values

    Ok, here’s a fairly basic one – how to force a textbox to accept only numeric input. Somebody asked me this today on a support call so I did a few quick lookups online and found the solutions listed rather unsatisfying. The main problem with most of the examples I could dig up was that they only include numeric values, but that provides a rather lame user experience. You need to still allow basic operational keys for a textbox – navigation keys, backspace and delete, tab/shift tab and the Enter key - to work or else the textbox will feel very different than a standard text box. Yes there are plug-ins that allow masked input easily enough but most are fixed width which is difficult to do with plain number input. So I took a few minutes to write a small reusable plug-in that handles this scenario. Imagine you have a couple of textboxes on a form like this: <div class="containercontent"> <div class="label">Enter a number:</div> <input type="text" name="txtNumber1" id="txtNumber1" value="" class="numberinput" /> <div class="label">Enter a number:</div> <input type="text" name="txtNumber2" id="txtNumber2" value="" class="numberinput" /> </div> and you want to restrict input to numbers.   • How do I store the OAuth v1 consumer key and secret for an open source desktop Twitter client without revealing it to the user?

    I want to make a thick-client, desktop, open source twitter client. I happen to be using .NET as my language and Twitterizer as my OAuth/Twitter wrapper, and my app will likely be released as open source. To get an OAuth token, four pieces of information are required: Access Token (twitter user name) Access Secret (twitter password) Consumer Key Consumer Secret The second two pieces of information are not to be shared, like a PGP private key. However, due to the way the OAuth authorization flow is designed, these need to be on the native app. Even if the application was not open source, and the consumer key/secret were encrypted, a reasonably skilled user could gain access to the consumer key/secret pair. So my question is, how do I get around this problem? What is the proper strategy for a desktop Twitter client to protect its consumer key and secret?
