  • CodeContracts: Possibly calling a method on a null reference

    - by dtb
I'm having an argument with the CodeContracts static analysis tool. My code: class Foo { private static Foo instance = new Foo(); private string bar; public Foo() { bar = "Hello World"; } public static int BarLength() { return instance.bar.Length; // <<-- } } The tool tells me that instance.bar may be a null reference. I believe the opposite. Who is right? How can I prove it wrong?

  • How to code the set method of a Map with another Map as value?

    - by Nazgulled
I normally do this to set a new Map to a private variable: public static void setListaClausulas(Map<String, Clausula> nvLista) { listaClausulas = new TreeMap<String, Clausula>(nvLista); } I suppose this is ok to set a new copy of the nvLista and all it's members and not a reference, is it? But now I have a Map inside another Map and I'm doing this: public static void setListaClausulas(Map<String, Map<String, Clausula>> nvLista) { listaClausulas = new TreeMap<String, Map<String, Clausula>>(nvLista); } Is this the correct way to do it or do you recommend something else? What I want is to set a new copy of nvLista (and all it's elements) and not copy just the reference.

  • Class templating std::set key types

    - by TomFLuff
I have a class to evaluate set algebra but wish to template it. At the minute it looks a bit like this set.h: template<typename T> class SetEvaluation { public: SetEvaluation<T>(); std::set<T> evaluate(std::string in_expression); } set.cpp template<typename T> std::set<T> SetEvaluation<T>::evaluate(std::string expression) { std::set<T> result; etc etc... } But i'm getting undefined reference errors when compiling. Is it possible to declare the return type as std::set<T> and then pass std::string as the class template param. There are no errors in the class but only when I try to instantiate SetEvaluation<std::string> Can anyone shed light on this problem? thanks

  • Using a string as an object reference

    - by user317362
I currently have a Javascript function that uses a string to reference an object name and acces its properties. I'm currently using eval() to get the the desired effect which I know is very, very wrong. Here is an example of how I'm currently achieving what I want: var stringToObjectRef = function() { var myTestVar = "myTestObject"; var myTestObject = { 'item1' : 100, 'item2' : 12, 'item4' : 18 }; var myValue = eval(myTestVar + '.item1'); alert(myValue); }(); I've tried using something like [myTestVar].item1, but this returns undefined. What is the correct syntax to achieve this? Thanks in advance.

  • servlet authentication and further reference to the credentials

    - by user553592
What I got so far: It all begins with an HTML form which prompts the user for a username and password. From there it post the acquired user/pass to a servlet, GateKeeper. GateKeeper determines if the user/pass combination match any records in the MySQL database. Here is the sql I use: SELECT id FROM Users WHERE username='?' AND password=MD5('?') where the ? indicate information provided the previous HTML form. What I need now: I need some way to store the username and id of the record in the database. GateKeeper redirects the user to a control panel upon success. Therefore, I need a method to reference the username to display simple greetings, etc and also the id so it eliminates unnecessary calls to the database. The control panel may make AJAX calls to Servlets that preform some sort of task to the MySQL database.

  • Bible reference books (PHP / MySQL / Unix)

    - by Josh K
I'm looking for some nice heavy books to liter around my desk and make it look like I'm a hard core programmer. On the occasion that I might want to look something up they will also need to be useful dependable books. I'm looking for the equivalent bible in PHP, MySQL, and Unix. Should be laid out with some chapters I can actually read, along with having an in-depth reference to that particular subject. I know that the majority of this can be found on Google, but I would prefer it in book form.

  • Changing populated DataTable column data types

    - by TonE
Hi, I have a System.Data.DataTable which is populated by reading a CSV file which sets the datatype of each column to string. I want to append the contents of the DataTable to an existing database table - currently this is done using SqlBulkCopy with the DataTable as the source. However, the column data types of the DataTable need to be changed to match the schema of the target database table, handling null values. I am not very familiar with ADO.NET so have been search for a clean way of doing this? Thanks.

  • incompatible types in java

    - by user2975357
    Should I point out that I am a begginer at this? double averageMonthlyTemp() { double[] amt = new double[52]; int sum = 0; int index = 0; for (int i = 0; i < temp.length - 1; i = i + 7) { //where temp is an existiing //previously initialized array //of 365 elements, form 0 to 364 for (int j = 0; j < 7; j++) { sum = sum + temp[i + j]; if (j % 7 == 6) { double average = ((double) sum) / 7; amt[index] = average; index++; sum = (int) 0; } } } return amt; } When I try to compile, I get an "incompatible types" error, with the "amt" at return amt marked in red. Does somebody know why?

  • Including an embedded framework using a cross-project-reference: Header no such file or directory

    - by d11wtq
I'm trying to create a Cocoa framework by using a cross-project reference in Xcode. I have 2 projects: one for the framework; one for the application that will use the framework. This framework is not intended to be stored within the system; it is an embedded framework that lives within the application bundle. I have successfully made the cross-project reference, marked the framework as being a dependency of my target, added a Copy Files build phase that puts the framework in Contents/Frameworks/ and added the framework to the linker phase (I checked the little "Target" checkbox; I've also done it manually by dragging the framework into the linker phase). My framework's install directory is correctly set to @executable_path/../Frameworks. However, when I try to build my app it: a) Correctly builds the framework first b) Correctly copies the framework c) Errors because it cannot find the master header file in my framework I have verified that the header is there. I can see it in the app product that is partially built. ls build/Debug/CioccolataTest.webapp/Contents/Frameworks/Cioccolata.framework/Headers/Cioccolata.h build/Debug/CioccolataTest.webapp/Contents/Frameworks/Cioccolata.framework/Headers/Cioccolata.h I have been able to successfully build the app by copying my framework into /Library/Frameworks (I can then delete it again after the successful build), but this is a workaround, I'm looking to find it out why Xcode doesn't find the framework's master header file without it being copied to a system directory. Is copying it to the app bundle during the build not sufficient? Here's the full build transcript if it's any help (it's just a Hello World app right now, so not much going on here): Build Cioccolata of project Cioccolata with configuration Debug SymLink • Odd behavior when recursively building a return type for variadic functions

    - by Dennis Zickefoose
This is probably going to be a really simple explanation, but I'm going to give as much backstory as possible in case I'm wrong. Advanced apologies for being so verbose. I'm using gcc4.5, and I realize the c++0x support is still somewhat experimental, but I'm going to act on the assumption that there's a non-bug related reason for the behavior I'm seeing. I'm experimenting with variadic function templates. The end goal was to build a cons-list out of std::pair. It wasn't meant to be a custom type, just a string of pair objects. The function that constructs the list would have to be in some way recursive, with the ultimate return value being dependent on the result of the recursive calls. As an added twist, successive parameters are added together before being inserted into the list. So if I pass [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6] the end result should be {1+2, {3+4, 5+6}}. My initial attempt was fairly naive. A function, Build, with two overloads. One took two identical parameters and simply returned their sum. The other took two parameters and a parameter pack. The return value was a pair consisting of the sum of the two set parameters, and the recursive call. In retrospect, this was obviously a flawed strategy, because the function isn't declared when I try to figure out its return type, so it has no choice but to resolve to the non-recursive version. That I understand. Where I got confused was the second iteration. I decided to make those functions static members of a template class. The function calls themselves are not parameterized, but instead the entire class is. My assumption was that when the recursive function attempts to generate its return type, it would instantiate a whole new version of the structure with its own static function, and everything would work itself out. The result was: "error: no matching function for call to BuildStruct<double, double, char, char>::Go(const char&, const char&)" The offending code: static auto Go(const Type& t0, const Type& t1, const Types&... rest) -> std::pair<Type, decltype(BuildStruct<Types...>::Go(rest...))> My confusion comes from the fact that the parameters to BuildStruct should always be the same types as the arguments sent to BuildStruct::Go, but in the error code Go is missing the initial two double parameters. What am I missing here? If my initial assumption about how the static functions would be chosen was incorrect, why is it trying to call the wrong function rather than just not finding a function at all? It seems to just be mixing types willy-nilly, and I just can't come up with an explanation as to why. If I add additional parameters to the initial call, it always burrows down to that last step before failing, so presumably the recursion itself is at least partially working. This is in direct contrast to the initial attempt, which always failed to find a function call right away. Ultimately, I've gotten past the problem, with a fairly elegant solution that hardly resembles either of the first two attempts. So I know how to do what I want to do. I'm looking for an explanation for the failure I saw. Full code to follow since I'm sure my verbal description was insufficient. First some boilerplate, if you feel compelled to execute the code and see it for yourself. Then the initial attempt, which failed reasonably, then the second attempt, which did not. #include <iostream> using std::cout; using std::endl; #include <utility> template<typename T1, typename T2> std::ostream& operator <<(std::ostream& str, const std::pair<T1, T2>& p) { return str << "[" << p.first << ", " << p.second << "]"; } //Insert code here int main() { Execute(5, 6, 4.3, 2.2, 'c', 'd'); Execute(5, 6, 4.3, 2.2); Execute(5, 6); return 0; } Non-struct solution: template<typename Type> Type BuildFunction(const Type& t0, const Type& t1) { return t0 + t1; } template<typename Type, typename... • Is it a good practice to use smaller data types for variables to save memory?

    - by ThePlan
When I learned the C++ language for the first time I learned that besides int, float etc, smaller or bigger versions of these data types existed within the language. For example I could call a variable x int x; or short int x; The main difference being that short int takes 2 bytes of memory while int takes 4 bytes, and short int has a lesser value, but we could also call this to make it even smaller: int x; short int x; unsigned short int x; which is even more restrictive. My question here is if it's a good practice to use separate data types according to what values your variable take within the program. Is it a good idea to always declare variables according to these data types?

  • A Safe Way to Allow Upload of All File Types?

    - by user34682
By default WordPress restricts the file types that can be uploaded to /uploads using the default Media Manager. I know it is possible to manually extend the allowed file types. I also know it is possible to change functions.php to allow ALL file types to be uploaded. This restriction obviously exists for security concerns - e.g. someone could upload a harmful .exe Would it not be possible to allow secure upload of all filetypes by setting the permissions of the /uploads directory to prevent execution of any of its contents? Thus it wouldn't matter if someone uploaded a harmful file because it would not be executable on the server...

  • DataContractSerializer and deserializing web service response types

    - by matra
Hi, I am using calling web services and using WCF generated service-reference on the client. I have saved XML responses that are received from test service to disk (without SOAP envelope and body tags) I would like to load them from disk and create objects from them. Lets' take the following method from my web service: SomeMethodResponse SomeMethod(SomeMethodRequest req) I manually (through SOAP UI) save the response to disk to file, Sample response: < SomeMethodResponse xmlns="http://myNamespace"> <SomeMember1>value</SomeMember1> </SomeMethodResponse xmlns="http://myNamespace"> Then I try to deserialize the object from file using: DataContractSerializer dcs = new DataContractSerializer(typeof(SomeMethodResponse)) This fails – the serializer complains with the error, that it is expecting element in namespace 'http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07', but found element in 'http://myNamespace'. Question: Why does the DataContractSerializer not use the namespace, that is declared on SomeMethodResponseType with XmlTypeAttribute(Namespace="http://myNamespace")? I can work around this by explicitly providing the namespace and the root element to DataContractSerializer constructor. But then it fails with message similar to: Error in line X position Y (last line of the XMLdocument). 'EndElement' 'SomeMethodResponse from namespace 'httpmyNapespace’ is not expected. Expecting element 'someNameField'. SomeName is an element in the XSD that web service is using. It is also a property on the SomeMethodResponse type, backed by the private field called someNameField. It looks like DataContractSerializer is trying to deserialize the fields in addition to properties. How can I deserailize XML that I have saved from disk and get back the object of same type that SomeMethod is returning? Thanks, Matra

  • Jaxb2Marshaller and primitive types

    - by Thomas Einwaller
Is it possible to create a web service operation using primitive or basic Java types when using the Jaxb2Marschaller in spring-ws? For example a method looking like this: @Override @PayloadRoot(localPart = "AddTaskRequest", namespace = "http://example.com/examplews/") public long addTask(final Task task) throws AddTaskFault { // do something return 0; } I am using the maven jaxws plugin to generate the interface and model classes from my WSDL. When I try to call the webservice I get the following error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: No adapter for endpoint [...]: Does your endpoint implement a supported interface like MessageHandler or PayloadEndpoint I found out that if I change the method to that: @Override @PayloadRoot(localPart = "AddTaskRequest", namespace = "http://example.com/examplews/") public JAXBElement<Long> addTask(final JAXBElement<Task> task) throws AddTaskFault { final ObjectFactory objectFactory = new ObjectFactory(); return objectFactory.createAddTaskResponse(0L); } I am able to call it - but this signature is not compatible with the interface generated by the maven jaxws plugin. What can I do to configure either spring-ws to be able to use the first kind of implementation or to tell maven jaxws plugin to generate the second variant of the interface? UPDATE: My relevant spring-ws config entries look like that: <bean id="marshaller" class="org.springframework.oxm.jaxb.Jaxb2Marshaller"> <property name="contextPath" value="com.example.examplews" /> </bean> <bean class="org.springframework.ws.server.endpoint.adapter.GenericMarshallingMethodEndpointAdapter"> <constructor-arg ref="marshaller" /> </bean> <bean class="org.springframework.ws.server.endpoint.mapping.PayloadRootAnnotationMethodEndpointMapping"> <property name="order" value="1" /> </bean>

  • SQL Server Express 2005 Merge Replication using RMO causes Null Reference exception

    - by Craig Shearer
I'm trying to use RMO to programmatically perform merge synchronization. I've basically copied the SQL Server example code, as follows: // Create a connection to the Subscriber. ServerConnection conn = new ServerConnection(subscriberName); MergePullSubscription subscription; try { // Connect to the Subscriber. conn.Connect(); // Define the pull subscription. subscription = new MergePullSubscription(subscriptionDbName, publisherName, publicationDbName, publicationName, conn, false); // If the pull subscription exists, then start the synchronization. if (subscription.LoadProperties()) { // Check that we have enough metadata to start the agent. if (subscription.PublisherSecurity != null || subscription.DistributorSecurity != null) { subscription.SynchronizationAgent.Synchronize(); } else { throw new ApplicationException("There is insufficent metadata to " + "synchronize the subscription. Recreate the subscription with " + "the agent job or supply the required agent properties at run time."); } } else { // Do something here if the pull subscription does not exist. throw new ApplicationException(String.Format( "A subscription to '{0}' does not exist on {1}", publicationName, subscriberName)); } } catch (Exception ex) { // Implement appropriate error handling here. throw new ApplicationException("The subscription could not be " + "synchronized. Verify that the subscription has " + "been defined correctly.", ex); } finally { conn.Disconnect(); } I've got the server merge publication defined correctly, but when I run the above code, I get a null reference exception on the call to: subscription.SynchronizationAgent.Synchronize(); The stack trace is as follows: at Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication.MergeSynchronizationAgent.StatusEventSinkMethod(String message, Int32 percent, Int32* returnValue) at Test.ConsoleTest.Program.SynchronizePullSubscription() in F:\Visual Studio Projects\Test\source\Test.ConsoleTest\Program.cs:line 124 It seems, from the stack trace, like something to do with the Status event, but I don't have a handler defined, and defining one makes no difference.

  • C# Web Reference and PHP

    - by Louis
I am attempting to call a Web Service (created in PHP) from my C# application. I have successfully added the Web Reference in Visual Studios, however I cannot figure out exactly how to invoke the call to the web service. I have been following this tutorial: http://sanity-free.org/article25.html however when I try and compile I get a "The type or namespace name 'SimpleService' could not be found". My C# code is as follows: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Data; using System.Drawing; using System.Text; using System.Windows.Forms; using System.IO; namespace inVision_OCR { public partial class Form1 : Form { public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); } private void translateButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { // We need to snap the image here somehow . . . // Open up the image and read its contents into a string FileStream file = new FileStream("\\Hard Disk\\ocr_images\\test.jpg", FileMode.Open); StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(file); string s = sr.ReadToEnd(); sr.Close(); // Using SOAP, pass this message to our development server SimpleService svc = new SimpleService(); string s1 = svc.getOCR("test"); MessageBox.Show(s); } } } Any help would be appreciated.

  • HTML 4, HTML 5, XHTML, MIME types - the definitive resource

    - by deceze
The topics of HTML vs. XHTML and XHTML as text/html vs. XHTML as XHTML are quite complex. Unfortunately it's hard to get a complete picture, since information is spread mostly in bits and pieces around the web or is buried deep in W3C tech jargon. In addition there's some misinformation being circulated. I propose to make this the definite SO resource about the topic, describing the most important aspects of: HTML 4 HTML 5 XHTML 1.0/1.1 as text/html XHTML 1.0/1.1 as XHTML What are the practical implications of each? What are common pitfalls? What is the importance of proper MIME types for each? How do different browsers handle them? I'd like to see one answer per technology. I'm making this a community wiki, so rather than contributing redundant answers, please edit answers to complete the picture. Feel free to start with stubs. Also feel free to edit this question.

  • How to propertly reference a namespace for Microsoft.Sdc.Tasks.XmlFile.GetValue

    - by æther
Hi, i want to use MSBuild to insert a custom xml element into web.config. After looking up online, i found such solution: 1) Store element in the .build file in projectextensions <ProjectExtensions> <CustomElement name="CustomElementName"> ... </CustomElement> </ProjectExtensions> 2) Retrieve the element with GetValue <Target name="ModifyConfig"> <XmlFile.GetValue Path="$(MSBuildProjectFullPath)" XPath="Project/ProjectExtensions/CustomElement[@name='CustomElementName']"> <Output TaskParameter="Value" PropertyName="CustomElementProperty"/> </XmlFile.GetValue> </Target> This will not work as i need to reference a namespace the .build project is using for it to find the needed element (checked the .build file with XPath Visualizer). So, i look up for a further solution and come to this: <ItemGroup> <XmlNamespace Include="MSBuild"> <Prefix>msb</Prefix> <Uri>http://schemas.microsoft.com/developer/msbuild/2003</Uri> </XmlNamespace> </ItemGroup> <Target name="ModifyConfig"> <XmlFile.GetValue Path="$(MSBuildProjectFullPath)" Namespaces="$(XmlNamespace)" XPath="/msb:Project/msb:ProjectExtensions/msb:CustomElement[@name='CustomElementName']" > <Output TaskParameter="Value" PropertyName="CustomElementProperty"/> </XmlFile.GetValue> </Target> But for some reason namespace is not recognized - MSBuild reports the following error: C:...\mybuild.build(53,9): error : A task error has occured. C:...\mybuild.build(53,9): error : Message = Namespace prefix 'msb' is not defined. I tried some variations of referencing it differently but none work, and there is not much about propertly referencing those namespaces online also. Can you tell me what am i doing wrong and how to do it propertly?

  • Distinguishing between .NET exception types

    - by Swingline Rage
For the love of all things holy, how do you distinguish between different "exception flavors" within the predefined .NET exception classes? For example, a piece of code might throw an XmlException under the following conditions: The root element of the document is NULL Invalid chars are in the document The document is too long All of these are thrown as XmlException objects and all of the internal "tell me more about this exception" fields (such as Exception.HResult, Exception.Data, etc.) are usually empty or null. That leaves Exception.Message as the only thing that allows you to distinguish among these exception types, and you can't really depend on it because, you guessed it, the Exception.Message string is glocabilized, and can change when the culture changes. At least that's my read on the documentation. Exception.HResult and Exception.Data are widely ignored across the .NET libraries. They are the red-headed stepchildren of the world's .NET error-handling code. And even assuming they weren't, the HRESULT type is still the worst, downright nastiest error code in the history of error codes. Why we are still looking at HRESULTs in 2010 is beyond me. I mean if you're doing Interop or P/Invoke that's one thing but... HRESULTs have no place in System.Exception. HRESULTs are a wart on the proboscis of System.Exception. But seriously, it means I have to set up a lot of detailed specific error-handling code in order to figure out the same information that should have been passed as part of the exception data. Exceptions are useless if they force you to work like this. What am I doing wrong?

  • Objective-C classes, pointers to primitive types, etc.

    - by Toby Wilson
I'll cut a really long story short and give an example of my problem. Given a class that has a pointer to a primitive type as a property: @interface ClassOne : NSObject { int* aNumber } @property int* aNumber; The class is instantiated, and aNumber is allocated and assigned a value, accordingly: ClassOne* bob = [[ClassOne alloc] init]; bob.aNumber = malloc(sizeof(int)); *bob.aNumber = 5; It is then passed, by reference, to assign the aNumber value of a seperate instance of this type of class, accordingly: ClassOne* fred = [[ClassOne alloc] init]; fred.aNumber = bob.aNumber; Fred's aNumber pointer is then freed, reallocated, and assigned a new value, for example 7. Now, the problem I'm having; Since Fred has been assigned the same pointer that Bob had, I would expect that Bob's aNumber will now have a value of 7. It doesn't, because for some reason it's pointer was freed, but not reassigned (it is still pointing to the same address it was first allocated which is now freed). Fred's pointer, however, has the allocated value 7 in a different memory location. Why is it behaving like this? What am I minsunderstanding? How can I make it work like C++ does?

  • ASP.NET MVC 2 with NServiceBus unable to load requested types

    - by dp
I am trying to use NServiceBus with an ASP.NET MVC 2 website (using VS 2010 and the .NET 4.0 framework). However, when I run the site on my local machine, I get the following error: Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information. Here are the relevant steps I have taken: Downloaded the NServiceBus.2.0.0.1145 binaries In my asp.net mvc app, I've added references to NServiceBus.dll and NServiceBus.Core.dll In Global.asax.cs I've added: public static IBus Bus { get; private set; } protected void Application_Start() { AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas(); RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); Bus = NServiceBus.Configure .WithWeb() .Log4Net() .DefaultBuilder() .XmlSerializer() .MsmqTransport() .IsTransactional(false) .PurgeOnStartup(false) .UnicastBus() .ImpersonateSender(false) .CreateBus() .Start(); } In web.config, I've added: <MsmqTransportConfig InputQueue="MyWebClient" ErrorQueue="error" NumberOfWorkerThreads="1" MaxRetries="5"/> <UnicastBusConfig> <MessageEndpointMappings> <add Messages="Messages" Endpoint="MyServerInputQueue"/> </MessageEndpointMappings> </UnicastBusConfig> The error indicates that the problem is with the first line in the Global.asax.cs file. Is it possible that there is a problem with NServiceBus running under .NET 4.0?

  • Partial specialization with reference template parameter fails to compile in VS2005

    - by Blair Holloway
I have code that boils down to the following: template struct Foo {}; template & I struct FooBar {}; //////// template struct Baz {}; template & I struct Baz< FooBar { static void func(FooBar& value); }; //////// struct MyStruct { static const Foo s_floatFoo; }; // Elsewhere: const Foo MyStruct::s_floatFoo; void callBaz() { typedef FooBar FloatFooBar; FloatFooBar myFloatFooBar; Baz::func(myFloatFooBar); } This compiles successfully under GCC, however, under VS2005, I get: error C2039: 'func' : is not a member of 'Baz' with [ T=FloatFooBar ] error C3861: 'func': identifier not found However, if I change const Foo<T>& I to const Foo<T>* I (passing I by pointer rather than by reference), and defining FloatFooBar as: typedef FooBar FloatFooBar; Both GCC and VS2005 are happy. What's going on? Is this some kind of subtle template substitution failure that VS2005 is handling differently to GCC, or a compiler bug? (The strangest thing: I thought I had the above code working in VS2005 earlier this morning. But that was before my morning coffee. I'm now not entirely certain I wasn't under some sort of caffeine-craving-induced delirium...)

  • Dynamically created "CheckBoxList" in placeholder controls throwing null reference exception error d

    - by newName
I have a web form that will dynamically create a number of checkboxlist filled with data based on the number of row in database. Then this is added to a placeholder to be displayed. theres a button when clicked, will add the selected check boxes value into database but right now when the button is clicked and after the postback, the page will show the error "System.NullReferenceException". the following code is written in Page_Load in (!Page.IsNotPostBack) and in a loop that will dynamically create a number of checkboxlist: CheckBoxLis chkContent = new CheckBoxList(); chkContent.ID = chkIDString; //chkIDString is an incremental int based on the row count chkContent.RepeatDirection = RepeatDirection.Horizontal; foreach (List<t> contentList in List<t>) //data retrieved as List<t> using LINQ { ListItem contents = new ListItem(); contents.Text = contentList.Title; contents.Value = contentList.contentID.ToString(); chkContent.Items.Add(contents); } plcSchool.Controls.Add(chkContent); //plcSchool is my placeholder plcSchool.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl("<br>")); protected void btnAdd_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { CheckBoxList cbl = Page.FindControl("chkContent4") as CheckBoxList; Response.Write(cbl.SelectedValue.ToString()); // now im just testing to get the value from one of the checkboxlist } Anyone able to help, as it seems the controls are not recreated after the postback, therefore it can't find the control and throwing the null reference exception.
