• Best CMS for review-type sites

  Is there an ideal CMS for making a review site? By review site, I mean like a restaurant review site where you have each entry belonging to different major categories like Cuisine and City. Then users can browse and filter by each or by combination (Chinese Food in Los Angeles, with suggestions of other Chinese restaurants in LA, etc). Furthermore, I'd want it to support other fields like price, parking, kid-friendliness, etc. And to have users be able to filter by those criteria. I've been told that with a combination of custom taxonomies, plug-ins and many clever little queries, that Wordpress 3.x can handle this. But I'm having a heck of a time with it getting into the nitty gritty, and that's where I find the community support is lacking. The sort of stuff you'd think would work in WP, like making one parent category for Cuisine and one for City, don't really work once you get further in and start trying to pull it all together. Then you find these blog posts where people say, "This example shows that one could create a huge movie review site using custom taxonomies..." but when you go and try it you hit all sorts of challenges and oddities that point a big long finger at Wordpress being in fact a blogging platform. The best I came up with was one category for the cuisine and one tag for the city, then I created a couple of custom tag-like taxonomies for the other features. It's quite a mess to try to figure out how to assemble all of that into a natural, intuitive site. I expect a few versions down the road WP will be able to do these sorts of sites out of the box. So I thought I'd take a step back before I run back into the Wordpress fray and find out if maybe there is another platform better suited to this sort of relational content site. Directory scripts in some ways offer many of the features I'm looking for, but I need something more flexible and, hopefully, interactive (comments, reviews). I'm especially looking for feedback from people who've crafted sites like this. Thanks!

• How to reduce RAM consumption when my server is idle

Quite disapointing! 2 questions arise : Where is all this memory? How to take some of it back for my own apps?

  Our "portal-like" SharePoint site is served using HTTPS/SSL. So a user goes to https://web.company.com and sees content and different Web Parts. So far, no problem. The desire now is to have new Web Parts added that either frame HTTP content (such as Weather Bug) or HTTP RSS feeds. The issue that arises is that by doing this, results in a "Mixed Content" warning in the browser. Has anybody successfully been able to implement such a scenario, or one similar to it?   I have come to realize the tremendous amount of information Google has on its users. I am a typical Google user, using Gmail, Google Reader. This means that right now Google now has the following information at its disposal: Who my friends are (Gmail) What we talk about (Gmail, Google Talk) What news sources I follow (Google Reader) How frequently I check them and which ones I consider important enough to share (Google Reader) A lot of other stuff What I search about and when (if I search when logged in) (Web search) I have no reason to believe that this information is used for reasons other than adjusting what ads I am displayed when I visit a site with Google Ads. However, I have realised that I am in no position to be certain that this is absolutely true, or that it always will be.   I am getting constantly high and wildly fluctuating CPU usage % for php-cgi commands as seen via "top" on my Centos server.. I have a server density account and it seems that this is a common trend: User - PID - CPU % - MEM % - VSZ - RSS - TT - Stat - Started - Time - Command 500 - 6389 - 22.4 - 3 - 271136 - 32380 - ? - S - 20:26 - 0:40 - /usr/bin/php-cgi Seems there are about 6 or so of those records in my processes list at any given check-in. Any ideas what's causing this? I have fast_cgi installed and the module is loading.. Not sure why it isn't handling this though. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Ryan

  Some programs on linux that use configuration files, want me to enter my password in plain text in one of their configuration files. For example newsbeauter, the rss reader wants me to enter my google account password in a ~/.newsbeauter/config if I want to read google reader feeds. Mutt also sort of wants a password in a text file, but gives an option of entering it on every login. Is there any secure workaround to storing a password in a config file like that (eg for newsbeauter)? I was thinking of running the app as root, but that doesn't seem right. Or somehow creating and deleting the file everytime I use the app. Any ideas?

I thought the issue was with spamd/spamassassin but after disabling this the errors remains. • Downloads on Vista Home Premium start off fast but slow down to 0 Kb/s and hang

  I have Windows Vista Home Premium on my computer and everytime I go to download something, it starts out at about 1.5 Mb/s and stays there for about 3 seconds, then it slows down to 800 Kb/s and continues to drop until it gets down to 0 Kb/s and hangs. I've tried just about everything I can find such as uninstalling all firewalls/antivirus, doing the netsh rss,autotune, and chimney disable, and updating everything but it still continues to happen. • Issues importing PST into Archive Mailbox Exchange 2013

  I've completed a successful mailbox import request into the archive mailbox for a particular user. There are no errors to speak of and the size of the archive mailbox has grown to the expected size after import (approximately 6GB). However, in OWA I can't see any of the mail folders inside the archive mailbox, only Deleted Items and RSS feeds folders. However if I run some cmdlets to list the contents of the Archive Mailbox\Inbox folder in the Exchange Shell, the full list of subfolders will come up. If I do a mail item search on the archive mailbox, emails from those individual folders appear as search results! I just can't see the folders in the navigation pane and hence cannot browse any of my old emails. Any help would be appreciated.

• mod_cache serving the wrong content

  I'm trying to use mod_disk_cache to speed up a web site that is running on WordPress. Whenever I enable it with CacheEnable disk / and the rest being the stock Ubuntu configuration I start to get the wrong results. When I see the main page it's fine, but when I go to a specific post I get a RSS feed instead. Like if the cache is returning the wrong content. I've disabled my RewriteRules as it seems mod_cache doesn't work with that. I'm not even sure where to start to debug such a thing. Any ideas?

Despite the fact these URLs ends in such a format they are not static, but fake script requests, so I have a problems with them. What is the best way to do this? How can I add an exclusion for this URL or maybe I can to exclude the specific file exptension (.ppt.swf, pptx.swf) from the list of this Nginx location? Thanks.

  I used blogspot.com and restricted its viewership to just its authors. However I cannot use Google Reader to subscribe to the RSS feed. Is there a workaround? I need to be notified somehow whenever somebody posts to that private blog. I am one of its authors. My blogspot.com allows me to set the readership to just its authors. So that is what I have done. I did not do any password protect settings at all.

• Finding source of leaking active memory on Mac OS Lion

  My activity monitor shows 6GB of active RAM usage: Yet my Real Memory column shows nothing like that amount: (There's another screenful below that, all smaller.) Backing that up, the output from this command (which sums up memory usage of every running process): ps -axm -o "rss,comm" | awk 'BEGIN { s=0;}; {s=s+$1;}; END { printf("%.2f GB\n", (s/1024.0/1024));}' Gives 4.09GB, so it looks to me like 2GB has leaked. I see much wider ranges sometimes, perhaps 2 or 3GB from the ps command and as much as 7 or 8GB of Active usage reported by Activity Monitor. I've tried quitting everything and logging my user out and back in again, but the Active usage is still far higher than the RAM reported by ps and by each process to Activity Monitor. This 2GB of active RAM is basically unrecoverable unless I reboot. Is there any way to a) detect what's leaking and b) get it back? Thanks

  We're looking for a good office jukebox solution where staff can select songs via a web interface to be played over the central set of speakers. Must haves: Web Interface RSS / easy to scrap display of currently playing songs Ability to play mp3s and manage an ordered playlist. Good cataloguing of media. Multiple OSs supported as clients - Windows, Mac, Fedora Linux (will probably be accomplished by virtue of a web interface). We have tried XBMC which worked well as a proof of concept however the web interface is just too immature and has too many bugs for a reliable multi-user solution. I believe the same will be true of boxee. Nice to have: Ability to play music videos onto a monitor Ability to listen to radio streams specifically Shoutcast and the BBC. Ability to run on Linux is a nice to have but windows solutions which worked well would certainly be considered. I am aware of question 61404 and don't believe this to be a duplicate due to the specific requirements.

My website is a PHP MySQl driven site which hase got site scrapping for more than 10 websites and near about 8-10 API pursing and some about 150 mb dat file reading(from local hard drive), and also one rss pursing,Live graph from other sites, geo map from Google,Map api from Google and so on. one widget which real-time result for any one who chose the same. so my question is which is best option for me. actually I am considering softlayer cloud as they are pretty cheap and more facilities than rackspace. another option is a dedicated server which has 2 single core processor, 4GB ram and 250GB sata II. with 100 mbps uplink. so please tell me which will be the best option?? I heard that dedicated server has lots of limitations than cloud. but for cloud they uses SAN for storage so I am afraid the reading proces for database may be bit slower...and their basic plan ram is only 1 GB.

  I'm using nginx reverse proxy cache with gzip enabled. However, I got some problems from android applications http requests to my rails json web service. It seems when I turn off reverse proxy cache, it works ok because the response header comes without gzip. Therefore, I think the problem caused from gzip.   I'm one of those heavy Microsoft Outlook users, currently working on the 2007 version. God knows this tool is heavy and may impose problems. I wondered what the Super User crowd has to suggest in order to improve the usage experience. Several suggestions of my own: Always work in cached mode (Tools--Account Settings--Change--Use Cached Exchange Mode) Use Outlook's local archiving capabilities Use Outlook's RSS reader - it's simple and allows offline access to your feeds If you have e-mail subscriptions to magazines, blogs, etc. - create a subdirectory to keep them, and a rule to automatically move them there when they arrive (one rule per subscription, based on the sender e-mail.) You can also share suggestions that require configuration of Exchange Server, for those of us who can make bring them to their IT managers. What are your suggestions? PS: "Use Gmail" is not an accepted answer, some of us don't control what email system we use...
