  • Upgrading Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.x to 11.1.1.4

    This is a follow on from my previous post where we upgraded 11.1.1.2 to 11.1.1.3. The instructions I provide here will work for Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.2 and 11.1.1.3 wanting to upgrade to 11.1.1.4. In this example I’m just upgrading SOA Suite on OEL 64bit but the steps will be the same, some of the downloads may be different based on your environment. To upgrade to 11.1.1.4 you need to have access to http://support.oracle.com as this is where the downloads reside. Oracle provides 11.1.1.4 as a standalone download so you can do a fresh install if required using OTN downloads (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/downloads/index.html). The high level steps to upgrade are as follows: Download software Shutdown you SOA Environment Upgrade WLS to 11.1.1.4 Upgrade SOA Suite to 11.1.1.4 Upgrade OSB to 11.1.1.4 Upgrade MSD Schemas Identify the downloads you require for your install. You will need the WebLogic Server Upgrade and the additional product downloads. If you are using 64bit then use the generic version. The downloads are found from the following location - http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/E18749_01/download_readme.htm#BABDDIIC For the purpose of this post I downloaded the following patches 11060985 – WLS Server Generic 11060960 – SOA Suite 11061005 – OSB Suite You must also download the 11.1.1.4 RCU tool to upgrade the DB schemas. It is available via OTN, or, Oracle Support, I have provided the link from Oracle Support.  11060956 – RCU Make sure you have set the Java executable in your PATH e.g. export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH  Make sure all your WebLogic environment has been shut down before performing the upgrade. Extract the WLS patch 11060985 to a temporary directory and start the installer java –jar wls1034_upgrade_generic.jar Please note if you are not running 64BIT then the upgrade executable will be just a bin file which you can execute directly. Chose the right Oracle home for your WebLogic Server install. In the Register for Security Updates you can enter your details or just click Next. If you do not enter details confirm that you don’t want to receive these updates Select the products you want to upgrade and select next. It is recommended that you accept the defaults. Confirm the directories that will be upgraded Upgrade of WLS ahs been completed   Extract your both SOA downloads to a temporary directory and run the installer found in Disk1 ./runInstaller -jreLoc /java/jdk1.6.0_20/jre Please note that the java location and version may be different for your environment Skip the Software Updates Ensure your system meets the prerequisites Set the Oracle home for your SOA install. You will be asked to confirm that you want to upgrade, click Yes Choose your application server. Since you are upgrading from 11.1.1.x you will be on WebLogic Start the Install Installation Upgrade of SOA Suite completed accept the default to finish.   In my environment I have OSB installed so I need to upgrade this next. If you don’t have SOA Suite you can go straight to completing the DB Schema updates at Step 24.  Extract the OSB upgrade files to a temporary directory and execute the installer found in the Disk1 folder. ./runInstaller -jreLoc /java/jdk1.6.0_20/jre Skip the software updates Select the Oracle home for your environment Accept the warning to continue the upgrade Point to the location of your WebLogic Server installation Install the OSB upgrade Upgrade has been completed accept the defaults Change directory to $MW_HOME/oracle_common/bin where the Patch Set Assistant is installed Execute the following command to update the MDS schema. Please not for my examples I have the context set to DEV. your may be different. This means that all my schemas are prefixed by DEV. ./psa -dbType Oracle -dbConnectString 'localhost:1521:xe' -dbaUserName sys -schemaUserName DEV_MDS You will be asked you passwords for sys and the schema Enter the database administrator password for "sys": Enter the schema password for schema user "DEV_MDS": Change directory to $MW_HOME/Oracle_SOA1/bin to where the Patch Set Assistant is installed for SOA Suite. Execute the following command to update the SOA and BAM schemas ./psa -dbType Oracle -dbConnectString 'localhost:1521:xe' -dbaUserName sys -schemaUserName DEV_SOAINFRA   To check that you have the installed correctly run the following SQL as sysdba. SELECT owner, version, status FROM schema_version_registry; OWNER                          VERSION                        STATUS ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ----------- DEV_MDS                        11.1.1.4.0                     VALID DEV_SOAINFRA                   11.1.1.4.0                     VALID Don’t stress if the versions are not all sitting at version 11.1.1.4 as not all schemas need to be updated.   • Setting alias for DynDNS domain

    Hey all, I've created DynDNS domain for testing my local sites, and i'm having trouble with pointing to root domain. From my registrar (GoDaddy) I've created a CNAME for www to point my example.dyndns.com so going to url www.example.com I'm reaching my site. But if I'm going to example.com I'm reaching to the IP of the A record. I can't set the IP for the A record to be my IP because I have dynamic IP, and it changes constatly, and I can't point the A record to domain, only IP. When trying to create CNAME record @ to point example.dyndns.com I'm getting error "A record of a different type exists for the hostname @, could not create CNAME" The only record using the '@' host are NS record, which I can't delete, and when tried to set another NS record with @ point to example.dyndns.com, I've lost connection to my site :) So what can I do to get example.com url reach my site? Thanx!

  • How do I record streams in chunks on Flash Media Server.

    I want to record a stream which is published with Flash Live Encoder to FMS 3.5, but split the recording in files with predefined length. For example if a stream 'webcam' is published I want to record it in chunks of 10 minutes: 'webcam1.flv', 'webcam2.flv' ... From what I can tell there's no facility to work with timers. The only solution I could think of was using stream.record() with a time limit parameter but that seems like a hack because it triggers NetStream.Record.DiskQuotaExceeded on the stream when the recordin should stop and start recording another chunk. Has anyone done something similar?

    Hi, I have a create statement for some models but its creating a record within a join table regardless if the record exist. Here is what my code looks like. @user = User.find(current_user) @event = Event.find(params[:id]) for interest in @event.interests @user.choices.create(:interest => interest, :score => 4) end The problem is it creates records no matter what. I would like it to create a record if it doesnt exist, if a record does exist I would just to it to take the attribute of the found record and add or subtract 1. So, I've been looking around and I see something called find_or_create_by. My question is what happens if it finds? Preferably if it finds,I would like to take the current :score attribute and +1. SO is it possible to find or create by id? I'm not sure what attribute I would find by since the model I'm looking at is a join model which only had id foreign keys and the score attribute. I tried @user.choices.find_or_create_by_user(:user => @user.id, :interest => interest, :score => 4) but got "undefined method `find_by_user'".....ANy ideas or help?

  • Why Fusion Middleware matters to Oracle Applications and Fusion Applications customers?

    Did you miss this general session on Monday morning presented by Amit Zavery, VP of Oracle Fusion Middleware Product Management? There will be a recording made available shortly and in the meanwhile, here is a recap. Amit presented 5 strategies customers can leverage today to extend their applications. Figure 1: 5 Oracle Fusion Middleware strategies to extend Oracle Applications & Oracle Fusion Apps 1. Engage Everyone – Provide intuitive and social experience for application users using Oracle WebCenter 2. Extend Enterprise – Extend Oracle Applications to mobile devices using Oracle ADF Mobile 3. Orchestrate Processes – Automate key organization processes across on-premise & cloud applications using Oracle BPM Suite & Oracle SOA Suite 4. Secure the core – Provide single sign-on and self-service provisioning across multiple apps using Oracle Identity Management 5. Optimize Performance – Leverage Exalogic stack to consolidate multiple instance and improve performance of Oracle Applications Session included 3 demonstrations to illustrate these strategies. 1. First demo highlighted significance of mobile applications for unlocking existing investment in Applications such as EBS. Using a native iPhone application interacting with e-Business Suite, demo showed how expense approval can be mobile enabled with enhanced visibility using BI dashboards. 2. Second demo showed how you can extend a banking process in Siebel and Oracle Policy Automation with Oracle BPM Suite.Process starts in Siebel with a customer requesting a loan, and then jumps to OPA for loan recommendations and decision making and loan processing with approvals in handled in BPM Suite. Once approvals are completed Siebel is updated to complete the process. 3. Final demo showcased FMW components inside Fusion Applications, specifically WebCenter. Boeing, Underwriter Laboratories and Electronic Arts joined this quest and discussed 3 different approaches of leveraging Fusion Middleware stack to maximize their investment in Oracle Applications and/or Fusion Applications technology. Let’s briefly review what these customers shared during the session: 1. Extend Fusion Applications We know that Oracle Fusion Middleware is the underlying technology infrastructure for Oracle Fusion Applications. Architecturally, Oracle Fusion Apps leverages several components of Oracle Fusion Middleware from Oracle WebCenter for rich collaborative interface, Oracle SOA Suite & Oracle BPM Suite for orchestrating key underlying processes to Oracle BIEE for dash boarding and analytics. Boeing talked about how they are using Oracle BPM Suite 11g, a key component of Oracle Fusion Middleware with Oracle Fusion Apps to transform their supply chain. Tim Murnin, Director of Supply Chain talked about Boeing’s 5 year supply chain transformation journey. Boeing’s Integrated and Information Management division began with automation of critical RFQ process using Oracle BPM Suite. This 1st phase resulted in 38% reduction in labor costs for RFP. As a next step in this effort, Boeing is now creating a platform to enable electronic Order Management. Fusion Apps are playing a significant role in this phase. Boeing has gone live with Oracle Fusion Product Hub and efforts are underway with Oracle Fusion Distributed Order Orchestration (DOO). So, where does Oracle BPM Suite 11g fit in this equation? Let me explain. Business processes within Fusion Apps are designed using 2 standards: Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) and Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN). These processes can be easily configured using declarative set of tools. Boeing leverages Oracle BPM Suite 11g (which supports BPMN 2.0) and Oracle SOA Suite (which supports BPEL) to “extend” these applications. Traditionally, customizations are done within an app using native technologies. But, instead of making process changes within Fusion Apps, Boeing has taken an approach of building “extensions” layer on top of the application. Fig 2: Boeing’s use of Oracle BPM Suite to orchestrate key supply chain processes across Fusion Apps 2. Maximize Oracle Applications investment Fusion Middleware appeals not only to Fusion Apps customers, but is also leveraged by Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, Siebel and JD Edwards customers significantly. Using Oracle BPM Suite and Oracle SOA Suite is the recommended extension strategy for Oracle Fusion Apps and Oracle Applications Unlimited customers. Electronic Arts, E-Business Suite customer, spoke about their strategy to transform their order-to-cash process using Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle Foundation Packs and Oracle BAM. Udesh Naicker, Sr Director of IT at Elecronic Arts (EA), discussed how growth of social and digital gaming had started to put tremendous pressure on EA’s existing IT infrastructure. He discussed the challenge with millions of micro-transactions coming from several sources – Microsoft Xbox, Paypal, several service providers. EA found Order-2-Cash processes stretched to their limits. They lacked visibility into these transactions across the entire value chain. EA began by consolidating their E-Business Suite R11 instances into single E-Business Suite R12. EA needed to cater to a variety of service requirements, connectivity methods, file formats, and information latency. Their integration strategy was tactical, i.e., using file uploads, TIBCO, SQL scripts. After consolidating E-Business suite, EA standardized their integration approach with Oracle SOA Suite and Oracle AIA Foundation Pack. Oracle SOA Suite is the platform used to extend E-Business Suite R12 and standardize 60+ interfaces across several heterogeneous systems including PeopleSoft, Demantra, SF.com, Workday, and Managed EDI services spanning on-premise, hosted and cloud applications. EA believes that Oracle SOA Suite 11g based extension strategy has helped significantly in the followings ways: - It helped them keep customizations out of E-Business Suite, thereby keeping EBS R12 vanilla and upgrade safe - Developers are now proficient in technology which is also leveraged by Fusion Apps. This has helped them prepare for adoption of Fusion Apps in the future Fig 3: Using Oracle SOA Suite & Oracle e-Business Suite, Electronic Arts built new platform for order processing 3. Consolidate apps and improve scalability Exalogic is an optimal platform for customers to consolidate their application deployments and enhance performance. Underwriter Laboratories talked about their strategy to run their mission critical applications including e-Business Suite on Exalogic. Christian Anschuetz, CIO of Underwriter Laboratories (UL) shared how UL is on a growth path - $1B to $2.5B in 5 years- and planning a significant business transformation from a not-for-profit to a for-profit business. To support this growth, UL is planning to simplify its IT environment and the deployment complexity associated with ERP applications and technology it runs on. Their current applications were deployed on variety of hardware platforms and lacked comprehensive disaster recovery architecture. UL embarked on a mission to deploy E-Business Suite on Exalogic. UL’s solution is unique because it is one of the first to deploy a large number of Oracle applications and related Fusion Middleware technologies (SOA, BI, Analytical Applications AIA Foundation Pack and AIA EBS to Siebel UCM prebuilt integration) on the combined Exalogic and Exadata environment. UL is planning to move to a virtualized architecture toward the end of 2012 to securely host external facing applications like iStore Fig 4: Underwrites Labs deployed e-Business Suite on Exalogic to achieve performance gains Key takeaways are: - Fusion Middleware platform is certified with major Oracle Applications Unlimited offerings.   • Advice? SSO in N-tiered SOA with mixture of REST and SOAP services

    Hi gang, We are moving to SSO in our N-tiered SOA applications. If all the services were SOAP, I'd be ok with just the WS-Security, WS-Trust, WS-Federation set of protocols. My problem is that many of the services are RESTful (ironic) and those protocols do not address REST services. What is your advice for SSO protecting the REST services in an N-tiered SOA architecture with the following requirements: ideally claims-based identity information available to the REST services original user (eg. bootstrap) information must flow through the tiers so that each service can "ActAs" or "OnBehalfOf" the user support sequences like: WebApp -- REST Svc -- SOAP Svc WebApp -- REST Svc1 -- REST Svc2 WebApp -- SOAP Svc -- REST Svc WebApp -- SOAP Svc1 -- SOAP Svc2 support SSO (and SSOff) service/web app platforms: ASP.Net and WCF Java end-user client platforms: .Net (WSE 3.0 and WCF) flash 10 java javascript and AJAX Normally I'm good at climbing / bashing my way through walls, but this one's knocked me flat.   • IDataRecord.IsDBNull causes an System.OverflowException (Arithmetic Overflow)

    Hi! I have a OdbcDataReader that gets data from a database and returns a set of records. The code that executes the query looks as follows: OdbcDataReader reader = command.ExecuteReader(); while (reader.Read()) { yield return reader.AsMovexProduct(); } The method returns an IEnumerable of a custom type (MovexProduct). The convertion from an IDataRecord to my custom type MovexProduct happens in an extension-method that looks like this (abbrev.): public static MovexProduct AsMovexProduct(this IDataRecord record) { var movexProduct = new MovexProduct { ItemNumber = record.GetString(0).Trim(), Name = record.GetString(1).Trim(), Category = record.GetString(2).Trim(), ItemType = record.GetString(3).Trim() }; if (!record.IsDBNull(4)) movexProduct.Status1 = int.Parse(record.GetString(4).Trim()); // Additional properties with IsDBNull checks follow here. return movexProduct; } As soon as I hit the if (!record.IsDBNull(4)) I get an OverflowException with the exception message "Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow." StackTrace: System.OverflowException was unhandled by user code Message=Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow. Source=System.Data StackTrace: at System.Data.Odbc.OdbcDataReader.GetSqlType(Int32 i) at System.Data.Odbc.OdbcDataReader.GetValue(Int32 i) at System.Data.Odbc.OdbcDataReader.IsDBNull(Int32 i) at JulaAil.DataService.Movex.Data.ExtensionMethods.AsMovexProduct(IDataRecord record) [...] I've never encountered this problem before and I cannot figure out why I get it. I have verified that the record exists and that it contains data and that the indexes I provide are correct. I should also mention that I get the same exception if I change the if-statemnt to this: if (record.GetString(4) != null). What does work is encapsulating the property-assignment in a try {} catch (NullReferenceException) {} block - but that can lead to performance-loss (can it not?). I am running the x64 version of Visual Studio and I'm using a 64-bit odbc driver. Has anyone else come across this? Any suggestions as to how I could solve / get around this issue? Many thanks!

  • How to mass insert/update in linq to sql?

    Hi How can I do these 2 scenarios. Currently I am doing something like this public class Repository { private LinqtoSqlContext dbcontext = new LinqtoSqlContext(); public void Update() { // find record // update record // save record ( dbcontext.submitChanges() } public void Insert() { // make a database table object ( ie ProductTable t = new ProductTable() { productname ="something"} // insert record ( dbcontext.ProductTable.insertOnSubmit()) // dbcontext.submitChanges(); } } So now I am trying to load an XML file what has tons of records. First I validate the records one at a time. I then want to insert them into the database but instead of doing submitChanges() after each record I want to do a mass submit at the end. So I have something like this public class Repository { private LinqtoSqlContext dbcontext = new LinqtoSqlContext(); public void Update() { // find record // update record } public void Insert() { // make a database table object ( ie ProductTable t = new ProductTable() { productname ="something"} // insert record ( dbcontext.ProductTable.insertOnSubmit()) } public void SaveToDb() { dbcontext.submitChanges(); } } Then in my service layer I would do like for(int i = 0; i < 100; i++) { validate(); if(valid == true) { update(); insert() } } SaveToDb(); So pretend my for loop is has a count for all the record found in the xml file. I first validate it. If valid then I have to update a table before I insert the record. I then insert the record. After that I want to save everything in one go. I am not sure if I can do a mass save when updating of if that has to be after every time or what. But I thought it would work for sure for the insert one. Nothing seems to crash and I am not sure how to check if the records are being added to the dbcontext.

  • Oracle Service Bus JMS Deployments Utility by Mike Muller

    For proxy services utilizing the JMS transport, OSB receives messages from destinations by using an MDB. These MDBs get generated and deployed during activation of the service configuration. OSB creates a random, unique name for the J2EE application that gets deployed to WLS. The name starts with “_ALSB_” and ends in a unique series of digits. The EAR files are written to the sbgen subdirectory of the domain home directory. You will see these applications on the WLS console page for “Deployments”. For various operational reasons, there are times when the application name for a given proxy service needs to be determined. Since the generated name of the application doesn’t reflect the name of the service, it becomes difficult to determine the relationship between the service and its EAR file.   • Manipulating Human Tasks (for testing) by Mark Nelson

    A few months ago, while working on a BPM migration, I had the need to look at the status of human tasks, and to manipulate them – essentially to just have a single user take random actions on them at some interval, to help drive a set of processes that were being tested. To do this, I wrote a little utility called httool.  It reuses some of the core domain classes from my custom worklist sample (with minimal changes to make it a remote client instead of a local one). I have not got around to documenting it yet, but it is pretty simple and fairly self explanatory.  So I thought I would go ahead and share it with folks, in case anyone is interested in playing with it. You can get the code from my ci-samples repository on java.net: git clone git://java.net/ci4fmw~ci-samples It is in the httool directory. I do plan to get back to this “one day” and enhance it to be more intelligent – target particular task types, update the payload, follow a set of “rules” about what action to take – so that I can use it for more driving more interesting test scenarios.  If anyone is feeling generous with their time, and interested, please feel free to join the java.net project and hack away to your heart’s content.
