• Cannot extend existing data disk over 2TB on windows 2008 with dynamic and gpt part

  As my D: disk is almost full (2TB) I extended the FC lun to 2.5TB. The new 500Go are seen by windows as "Unalloacted" as expected. I tried to extend the volume but windows says "The is not enough space available on the disk(s) to complete this operation" I read on the web that the disk should be configured as GPT and as a dynamic and it's already a dynamic gpt disk... How can I extend my disk without any data loss? My operating system is Windows 2008 R2 x64 SP1 and the SAN a 3PAR I hope someone can help me :) Thank you very much

• Sony Vaio: I can't type 'less and greater than' signs in TR keyboard layout

  I have a strange trouble with my Sony Vaio VPCCW21FX. My laptop has a Turkish Q keyboard and I'm using TR keyboard layout on Windows 7 x64 Home Premium. The problem is, I cannot find a usual way to type less than or greater than signs unless I switch to EN keyboard layout. These signs are showed on the keyboard together with the Turkish letters "Ö" and "Ç", as you can see from the below photo of my laptop's keyboard. So, how can I type these signs without switching to EN keyboard layout? I tried Fn and Alt keys but it doesn't work. I need to use TR layout since I need Turkish letters while writing my documents and e-mails.

• How to tell which physical disks have bootable MBR?

  The computer I am using right now has 6 physical disks attached. Using the BIOS's "select boot device" functionality I have discovered that I can boot off 3 of these disks into the exact same bootloader. This means that all of these disks have the bootable flag set on their MBR, even though I had been under the impression that only 2 of them are in fact bootable. My question is: is there an easy way to check which disks have a bootable MBR with a command line tool or some OS utility? I am aware of the DISKPART tool and its basic functionality, but I haven't found how to view the information I need. The OS is Windows 7 x64 Ultimate with SP1.

  I have this HUGELY irritating problem on Windows 7 (x64). Whenever I click on ANY link (that exists on a Word document, Excel or Outlook), I get an alert box with the message: This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer I have been scouring my settings and the Internet for a solution, but to no avail. What is the reason for this problem? It even happens when I click anchors in word document. That is, I can't even click on an entry in a Table of Contents to go to the appropriate page - I get this same error then. Is this a Windows 7 thing? Is there any way to turn this off?

  How do I enter normal text in Microsoft Paint? Normally I don't have any problems adding text to an image in Paint. But I ran into this problem: The text is supposed to be "abcdefd" (entered in a text editor and pasted). The same characters appear if typed directly. So apparently it is using some other character set. How do I restore normal operation? Platform: MS Paint 5.2, Windows XP Professional x64 SP2, 8 GB RAM.

  I scrutinized every single article that there is on the web for this one but NO JOY! I am getting the infamous error 500 after that I have installed internet explorer 9. Here is a detailed step of what I had done.... STEP 1 - Installed PHP using Web Platform installer , IIS 7 on Windows 7 x64 STEP 2 - Configured PHP.ini to display_errors so I turned that on STEP 3 - With IE8 EVERYTHING was showing up fine .... STEP 4 - When I installed IE9 .... the error 500 message came back STEP 5 - Looked into php.ini and my original settings are all still there STEP 6 - reset iis7 with iisrestart from command prompt....   I tried to install Visio on Windows 7, but I received the below error message. You cannot install the 64-bit version of Office 2010 because you have 32-bit Office products installed. These 32-bit products are not supported with 64-bit installations: Microsoft Office Single Image 2010 If you want to install 64-bit Office 2010, you must uninstall all 32-bit Office products first, and then run setup.exe in the x64 folder. If you want to install 32-bit Office 2010, close this Setup program, and then either go to the x86 folder at the root of your CD or DVD and run setup.exe, or get the 32-bit Office 2010 from the same place you purchased 64-bit Office 2010. I cannot find Microsoft Office Single Image 2010 in the programs list, so I tried to use Microsoft's Fix It to remove the software, but this doesn't resolve my issue.

  I recently put Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my wife's Macbook pro because of some software she bought for her business. Since then, the battery life has been abysmal. I've identified and researched one of the problems, which is display brightness. There is no brightness control in the windows power options, but I did manually turn it down in Bootcamp. However, it is still reporting very low battery life estimates. I'm wondering if this is because Windows thinks the display is at full brightness. Can anyone shed any light on this? (Pun intended). Also, are there any other things to look out for that may improve the battery life? (I mean in the context of Mac + Windows, not in general)

  I'd like to use custom icons to better distinguish machines running the same OS from each other, in VirtualBox. is this possible? If so, what file(s) do I need to add/edit? Examples: I've got two Windows 7 VMs. One I use as a sandbox for testing various things, and the other I use for when I need to connect to work (ideally, my personal system - the host machine - never directly connects). I'd like to have perhaps a beaker for the sandbox, and a suitcase for the work machine. I've got two Ubuntu VMs. One is BackTrack Linux, the other is a build I'm using to learn more about the OS. I wouldn't mind keeping the regular icon for the latter, but I'd like to use one of BackTrack's icons or images for the former. I'm running VirtualBox 4.1.6 on Windows 7 x64.

• Speakers will not work after I use USB Headset

  I am trying to configure my SteelSeries Siberia V2 Frost USB Headset to work with my 2.0 speakers using a jack. My goal is to find a easy way (no restart) to switch playback from my headset and my speakers and vice-versa. If i plug my headset in and make it the default device then restart my application/web page then the sounds works out of headset. If I switch the default to my speakers and restart apps/web pages then sound does not play. I know my speakers are on because if I configure them through windows and test, the sounds play, and sounds also play when I test it through my audio manager. Even if I unplug my headset, I still cannot get sound out of my speakers unless I restart My audio manager is RealTek HD Audio Manager, Windows 7 x64. I have tried the speaker back, usb front. speaker front, usb in front port. I have not tried speaker back, usb back.

• IIS FTP service - download timeouts and restarts getting the data twice

  We have an IIS FTP site on a Windows Server 2003 x64 machine. Application Layer Gateway service is disabled (so http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931130 does not apply). Windows Firewall service is disabled as well. Connection timeout for the FTP site (there is only one) is set to 1,200 seconds = 20 minutes. An external client can connect to the site, list directory contents and download small files. When a client attempts to download a large file (eg, if the download continues for 3 minutes, which is still under 20 minutes, but relatively long), the server sends all data, then the connection times out, the client issues REST / RETR commands attempting to restart the download since after the last byte (which I believe should succeed and receive exactly 0 bytes), and the server behaves as if the client tried to restart after byte 0, that is, it sends the entire file all over. Any ideas on how to fix this?

• HDMI Sound for HTPC

  I have the (perhaps) the same problem as stated in this other HDMI sound to HTPC question. I tried the advice of clicking on the speaker in the system tray. I can see the HDMI audio device I want to use. That device claims to be functioning properly. But there is no sound, and it won't let me select it as the active audio device. When I click on the troubleshooter, it says that there are no speakers connected. I would think this is because my computer us unable to pipe sound through the video card (preventing the HDMI from carrying it), except that it truly claims that it has an HDMI sound device that is working correctly. So I'm not sure what is wrong at this point. Thoughts? My system is Windows 7 x64. In case it makes a difference, the video card I'm using is this GeForce GTX 560

  Hi all. I have Win 7 (x64) at home and I want to play some old games (specifically Lands of Lore 3, but also some others). This game does not work properly on Win 7, and there are no patches that I'm aware of to fix its issues. Can I use XP Mode to play this game (and other non Win 7 nice games), or is there a better way? I only have one PC and dual booting scares me... (so no to dual booting!) Another question: Will I have full hardware support (full use of my graphics card, etc) when I use DOSbox or a VM? I have decided to go with VirtualBox or vmware, I'll check which one gives the best performance, thanks for your input!

  Microsoft has a Hyper-V based VM I'm interested in running, however, I don't have access to a Windows Server 2008 machine to try it on, only a Windows 7 Pro x64 machine (Windows 7 does not support Hyper-V). But instead of those routes, I'm wondering: What would happen if I tried to go the "Boot to VHD" route using this Hyper-V VHD? Is it possible that during the boot process, Windows would simply notice that hardware had changed and adjust accordingly, installing the appropriate drivers and continuing on without a hitch?

Computer "A" (192.168.0.10) is my work machine, it contains my tools etc. Computer "B" (192.168.0.15) is supposed to be my build server / web server for my projects I've installed IIS on "B", and installed IIS7 remote manager on "A". I'm trying to connect from A's IIS7 Manager to B's IIS but I fail. I have little knowledge of IIS, and I feel that's the main reason. I can ping B from A and get positive results so the machines do see each other. A and B are in the same workgroup but not in a domain (if that matters) - they're in my home network. What do I need to do to "see" B's IIS?

  Hello, I am trying to set up jumbo frames on my gigabit home LAN but no luck so far. My setup is: D-Link DIR-655 router, HW Revision A3, Firmware 1.21 EU Synology DS107+, Firmware 3.0-1337 Laptop w/ Win7 x64, external PCIx NIC managed by "Generic Marvel Yukon 88E8053 based Ethernet Controller" The router is supposed to support jumbo frames but doesn't feature any relevant setting. I set the Jumbo Packet value to 9000 on both the NIC and the Synobox but it doesn't work, ping -f -l 8972 says "Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set". Is there any other setting I overlooked, the DIR-655 doesn't actually support jumbo frames, or what else could be the problem?

Now I'm trying to set it as primary disk (I copied the old HD contents with HD clone), when the computer goes in sleep state, on wake up it doesn't see the disc thus causing my system to crash. I tried the following: BIOS update (Asus M2V motherboard) but the situation worsened as the system didn't wake up from the sleep (with both my HD's) Reinstalling the drivers Bios changes Microsoft Hotfix KB977178 that seemed to address exactly my problem but gave me "The update is not applicable to your computer" message. Disabling hybrid sleep but no results.

  I temporarily installed an old Creative Audigy 2 soundboard on my Vista x64 Home Premium computer. Bad idea! I uninstalled the board & all software visible on the control panel. Now, with one particular app. (Sibelius) I keep getting a start-up message "CTASIO Warning: Creative ASIO: there are no Creative audio products installed on the system that support ASIO". I offer this as a candidate for "Most useless message", but that's beside the point. I used a commercial registry cleaner (PC-Tools Registry Mechanic) and then edited the registry looking for "creative", "audigy" and "ASIO". After removing everything I could find, I still get the message. Any suggestions?

  Okay. Im using the feared x64 Win7 retail. I tried soooo many clients/methods, but none of them worked. Finally after a long battle, I made TGB working. YAY! I only have problems with the configuration. What data I've got? group auth user+pw;3DES enc(saw it from the router cfg);user+password. And that's all. I tried using the TGB provided manual and the howtos on their site, but there is no instruction for the given model, and the other cisco type conf wont work.)   I have setup WDS on Windows 2008 server in a Vmware box so I can practise setting up WDS,the server has DNS and DHCP as well as AD, the boot image is confirmed as working but when my clients try to boot up it does not work. I have checked the following: Clients can ping the WDS server. The WDS service is started Boot images for X86 and X64 are deployed. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\WDSServer\Providers\WDSPXE UseDhcpPorts has been set to 0 My clients just receive Error: PXE-E53: No boot filename received. Any idea what could be wrong?
