I just replaced my old Logitech mouse with a Microsoft Wireless Laser mouse, and the scrolling is too fast for my liking.
How can I adjust the scroll sensitivity?
IIS 7.5, server 2008 r2, classic asp and asp .net 2.0, 3.5 website same server, same app pool. The past 4 weeks thousands of these errors 'C0000005' are occurring. I know from IIS debug diag tool that 'C0000005' is an access violation error. Below is the top line from my debug diag report.

recent events: server was being brute forced by hackers all of Dec and probably earlier, they weren't able to gain access but did get a virus on and blasted out spam. insatlled AVG and about the 17 or 22 latest patches. after that the app pool started crashing and the server has crashed a couple times since then. I am in no mans land as I am a developer and not a sys admin but I have to assume many roles. So I'm reaching out for help.
Sometimes I will see hundreds of these 'C0000005' scriptengine errors in the event log in a matter of seconds and other times just a few times an hour. I googled this line 'ASP!CACTIVESCRIPTENGINE::GETAPPLICATION' and got nothing. Its like the function don't exist or something. I have spent many hours google-ing to no avail and am now turning to the experts on the forums.
Thank you for your help
I keep getting this error in my event viewer on IIS 6. I'm trying to figure out if my error resets my connection (maybe recycles the worker processes?).
The error is:
An attempt was made to load filter 'C:\Program Files\Software Artisans\FileUp
\FileUpIsapi.dll' but it requires the SF_NOTIFY_READ_RAW_DATA filter notification and
this notification is not supported in Worker Process Isolation Mode.

Hi all
The title says it, I searched the net but not even in the microsoft technet they mention what features I must activate for SQL Server 2005. Can someone help me out?
Hi.
I am using a Microsoft wireless phone ear piece and I have had the receiver plugged into the USB port on the Left Hand side. I have been getting intermittent success with the signal.
I have recently tried plugging it in to one of the ports on the top Right Hand side, and it seems that I am getting a better signal.
Is there a difference between the ports?
Thanks.
This is almost certainly a dumb question, but... say I have Windows 7, with some anti-virus software installed, and I am using Microsoft's Windows XP Mode to run some legacy applications as well. Is there any reason why I would want to install an anti-virus program in XP mode as well?
After buying a new laptop(XPS L501X) with windows 7 preinstalled, I decided to make it dual boot with windows Vista. I now know about the issue with installing previous versions of windows, and the deletion of the MBR. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but Microsoft no longer sends install disks with their computers, so there is no way to just re-install windows 7. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Data preservation is not an issue, as the laptop is new.
I'm currently running a Microsoft Server 2008 R2 box and want to utilize Volume Shadow Copy but my development machine doesn't have enough hard drive space for 30 days worth of copies, which is what I am aiming for and currently only have 5 days of backups.
I have another Windows XP box and I was wondering if it was possible to remotely store the shadow copy images in my remote XP box.
If it isn't possible with the built in Volume Shadow Copy, is there an open source alternative that I can utilize that has the same or similar functionality?
any utility on windows 7, which gives me virtual/multiple desktops like linux.

anyone voting for this app, or is there anything better available.
I ran the WSUS cleanup wizard in the WSUS MMC snap-in but this made no difference. I think the files are associated with System Center Essentials because they are in a folder called "data\SCE2007\WsusContent"
I've looked for a similar cleanup wizard in System Center Essentials but can't find one. Is there a way to clear these files out that doesn't cause issues for SCE or anything else?
FYI I've got both SCE and standalone WSUS settings already set to minimize the amount of updates downloaded from Microsoft to only those that are needed.
I followed the steps here to set up Sharepoint integration with reporting services (SSRS) using native mode. (i.e., get a report explorer and viewer web parts)
However after adding the cabinet file e.g.,
STSADM.EXE -o addwppack -filename "C:\ Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Reporting Services\SharePoint\RSWebParts.cab" -globalinstall
I still don't see report explorer in the web parts list. I'm very stuck and confused :-(
Hello. I just restarted my Windows 7 PC to find all my pinned shortcuts have disappeared from the start menu and taskbar. I've looked here
"C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned"
And it seems the shortcuts are still there. Is there maybe a service that isn't running, which is causing this problem? Thanks.
Recently we have have installed Windows Server 2008 R2 on one of our development boxes at work. We have 10 Client Access Licence's for Microsoft Windows Terminal Server 2008. I'm under the impression that these licences will entitle us to have 10 concurrent connections to Remote Desktop. At the moment we are only allowed two.
Can we have a RD connection per CAL? If so - how do we configure this?
Thanks!
I was a big time user of Windows 7 untill switched to Windows 8. I had customized the login screen for Windows 7 and Microsoft had a nice Registry switch to do so. I am looking for a similar way to change background of the start screen and also the login screen where you answer the password without using any 3rd party software
Basically I want to know if there's some hidden toggle for that in the OS somewhere and that anyone is aware of it.
How to assign an user account to a client machine in Windows Small Business Server 2003. I read here how to do that in 2011 (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc527565.aspx) but I can't find the documentation in 2003.
I've examine the properties in the client computer list in the admin server tools, and also in the users list, but I don't see any tab for machine or user assignation.
Thank you.
I was in the middle of watching a movie on Netflix, then suddenly everything started crashing. First, explorer.exe closed down, then Google chrome. I had multiple things running in the background (Steam, Raptr, etc.). Individuality, each of those apps closed down also. When they did, a small dialog box popped up for each of them, one at a time, saying that it was missing a file, it couldn't run anymore, or something similar to that. It also had some jumbled up "code" with numbers and letters that I couldn't read.
Ever since then, everytime I turn my computer on, it will run for a few seconds and give this error "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key_". No matter how many times I try to reboot it, it always gives me the same error. A day later after this happened I was able to start the computer, but before it booted, it told me that I didn't shut down the computer properly and asked how I wanted to run the OS (Run Windows in Safety Mode, Run Windows Normally, etc.). Once I logged, everything went SUPER slow and everything crashed almost instantly. The only thing I opened was Microsoft Security Essentials and only got in about two clicks before it was "Not Responding". Then, after that the whole computer froze and I had to restart it. Now, it's back to saying what it originally said, "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key_".
I built this PC back in February 2012. Here are the specs:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
CPU: AMD 8-core
GPU: Nvidia GTX Force 560 Ti
RAM: 16GB
Hard Drive: Hitachi Deskstar 750GB
I'm usually very good taking care of my PC. I don't download anything that's not from a trusted site or source. I don't open up any spam email or such or go to any harmful websites like porn or stream movies. I am very clean with the things I do with my PC and don't do many DIFFERENT things with it. I use it pretty often especially for video games and doing homework in Eclipse. Also, good to note that I don't have any Norton or antisoftware installed. I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed but never did a scan.
Thanks!
Hi there,
I have running a Windows XP SP3 Machine and I can't login after I have locked my Workstation. I changed my password and installed last Updates from Microsoft last Friday.
When Windows comes up, there is no problem to login. But after I locked it, it tells me that my password is wrong.
I pushed the client again into the domain, but doesn't help.
Thanks,
cyntaxx
Hi,
I have a Dell pc and when I ran the Vista installation disk which came with the machine, there is no obvious reference to the disk manager where you can add/delete partitions.
Can someone please explain how to find this? Is this an issue with the PC vendor or Microsoft?
Thanks
I am experiencing problems migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. I am on the first step: installing a new 2010 Client Access Server role.
The Active Directory domain functional level is 2003. All domain controllers are 2003 R2.
The only existing Exchange 2003 server happens to be housed on one of the domain controllers. It is running Exchange 2003 Standard w/ SP2.
IPv6 is enabled and working on all domain controllers, servers, and routers, including this new Exchange server.
After installing the CAS role on a new 2008 R2 server (Hyper-V VM) I am receiving 2114 Events:
Process MSEXCHANGEADTOPOLOGYSERVICE.EXE (PID=1600). Topology discovery failed, error 0x80040a02 (DSC_E_NO_SUITABLE_CDC). Look up the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) error code specified in the event description. To do this, use Microsoft Knowledge Base article 218185, "Microsoft LDAP Error Codes." Use the information in that article to learn more about the cause and resolution to this error. Use the Ping or PathPing command-line tools to test network connectivity to local domain controllers.
Prior to each, I receive the following 2080 Event:
Process MSEXCHANGEADTOPOLOGYSERVICE.EXE (PID=1600). Exchange Active Directory Provider has discovered the following servers with the following characteristics:
(Server name | Roles | Enabled | Reachability | Synchronized | GC capable | PDC | SACL right | Critical Data | Netlogon | OS Version)
In-site:
b.company.intranet CDG 1 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0
s.company.intranet CDG 1 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0
Out-of-site:
a.company.intranet CD- 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
o.company.intranet CD- 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
g.company.intranet CD- 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
Connectivity between the new Exchange server and all domain controllers via IPv4 and IPv6 are all working. I have verified that the new Exchange server is a member of the following groups:
Exchange Servers
Exchange Domain Servers
Exchange Install Domain Servers
Exchange Trusted Subsystem
Heck, I even put the new Exchange server into Domain Admins just to see if it would help. It didn't.
I can't find any evidence of Active Directory replication problems, all pre-setup Setup tasks (/PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions, /PrepareSchema, /PrepareAD, /PrepareDomain) completed successfully. The only problem so far that I haven't been able to resolve with my Active Directory is I am unable to get my IPv6 subnets into Sites and Services
Where should I proceed from here?
How much time will it take to backup 49GB? Here are the details:
Windows 7
Dual core CPU 2.50 GHz
2GB memory
I'll use the free version of Macrium Reflect. I will back it up to a Seagate portable hard-drive. I have installed: Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, NetBeans, and some CS4 Master Collection products. I only need to backup one partition.
I have a problem in Adaptec 160m SCSI card connected to DELL Power Edge server, that it is often stops communicating. In windows system error I am able to see an error pointing to the SCSI driver continuously. The error says:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Scsi\adpu160m4.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Can anyone suggest me what to do to solve it?
Webcams and headphones from Microsoft (like for example the LifeChat ZX-6000, in my case) have a button which can be used only with Windows Live Messenger, to answer a call.
There is no option provided to configure it so that it would launch a program, or work in another communicator, in the given drivers.
Is there a way to make it work with Skype, so that I can answer a call by pressing this button? Maybe there are other drivers?
Sometimes it is useful to have e-mail address like [email protected], where randomnumber identifies the conversation between a robot such as a mailing list server and a user. Is this possible with Microsoft Exchange?
Since I installed Windows 8 Preview on my personal computer, during the installation of some programs and drivers(Windows 7 ones) started to pop me a message warning that .Net Framework 3.5 was needed:
I could use "Install this feature", start to download some dependencies(300MB) and that's it, but I don't want to have to download it every time I want to enable this feature on every machine that I install Windows 8.
There is some way to install .Net 3.5 on Windows 8 without having to download the entire Framework from Microsoft?
