I have just added a MBP to my home network and while I can connect to the internet etc, i cannot browse my home networked computers. I have already added a new location in my Network preferences yet when I goto the WINS tab, there is no dropdown to select my workgroup so i manually enter it.
From what I have read, once I go to the finder and open the network, i should see the workgroup and systems...yet i do not. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
I have a program that by default only runs on one CPU. I have tried using the start /affinity x notepad.exe batch command but i can't get it to run my program. it changes the title of the command line window but doesn't execute the program. this start command does work for notepad so it might just be a problem with the software. I have set the affinity manually via task manager so i know it works.
I am not the programmer of this software so changing that is not an option.
Hi guys,
I'm having an issue with scanner services showing up. I recently reinstalled Photoshop, but it seems that the old "scanner service" stayed.
Assistance in removing this will be appreciated.

Junction is a good symbolic link tool in XP. However, it's not so easy to use at first moment, ie. only can use command line interface; move/rename target file/folder; got to use 'junction -d ' to delete link, don't allow delete in explore, but it's hard to distinguish if it's a symbolic link.
Is there any guides for how to use junction in XP like what to do and not to do?
So I ran spyware doctor and it had a bunch of malware stuff. I clicked "Remove" but failed to create a restore point first. Now my websites running on .net 2.0 as well as visual studio 2008 are not working. My websites running .net 4 and visual studio 2010 are working just fine. I'm assuming I need to restore either .net 2.0/3.5 or something. Any idea on how to do this?
Thanks!
I have a half dozen front-end servers all running IIS 6.0-based/hosted applications. (primary .NET 2.0 web apps.) Basically, I'd like to take some basic performance data from each one, through such into a spreadsheet, and compare. CPU load, RAM load, whatever...
If anyone can point out a very simple/stupid "here's how you do that" type of tutorial, that would be wonderful.

Hi There,
I used to use shared hosting before and I created a google app account and I configured DNS records on shared hosting's contol panel according to google dns documentations.
Everything was working until I switched to dedicated server. First I added DNS role to my new server and I configured whole DNS and NS stuff.
I have mail address that mail.domain.com that was redirecting to google app email before. Rightnow, It's not possible to access to mail.domain.com addres from somewhere. But I'm accessing from a few point which located some computer on different network.
I stacked in this problem. Please, see the below screen shots
I checked on DNSStuff.com,everything is green.
Also, I checked on InteliWiz, it seems correct
And, Here is the my DNS records.
I was accessing to my mail.domain.com address from everywhere, Now, I cannot access to mails from many places since 3 week.
Where is the my mistake ?
Any help would be appriciated.
We have 2 XP pro VMs (Citrix) that both have problems with logout prompts appearing during logout. Users are closing the rdc before these appear:
The Microsoft solution involves the creation of the KeepProgressLevel registry entry along with a value of 1 for "pause on errors." I have implemented this across the domain for this problem, yet these 2 VM's continue to have the prompts.
Today, I experimented by changing the KeepProgressLevel option to 0. This is not one of the options given by MS, yet I stopped getting the prompts. Can anyone tell me what I've done by setting the value to 0? Have I basically turned off the feature as if the KeepProgressLevel entry is gone? If so, why no more prompts? I did notice during logoff that there is a red x and error message, yet no prompt.
Hi,
I have been stumped by this issue for some time, I created a custom ADM template for a customer to populate the search providers in Internet Explorer 7 and 8.
The custom ADM works fine and I have set 3 search providers, the problem is that I cannot change them (the customer wants to change the entry for wikipedia from EN to NL), I edited the ADM file but the clients seem to keep on using the old settings.
Removing/replacing the adm file has no effect either, the settings remain. I used the following article as a base: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918238
For IE8 you need to work with a name instead of a UID for the default entry, that works as expected. but there seems to be no way to change the setting once in place.
Unfortunately I can't really give much more information unless anybody can suggest where I should look for logs or dumps etc?
Simply put, when I load the program I immediately get the error "Pinta Has Stopped Working".
I have tried:
Running as administrator
Installing to different partitions
Installing to folders with no spaces in directory structure
I have installed the GTK# for .Net 2.12.9 as required in order to install Pinta.
Thanks for any help!
How can I set the hard disk to never turn off permanently? And the sleep to never, together with the hibernate.
Because the options resets to their default values when I turn off, log off or restart my computer.
I am using granola on my laptop and it is set to lowest speed. When I restart it turns to full power again. Does it have something to do with the power options resetting to their default values?
I've got a computer that's stuck on the main screen asking me for the administrator password.
I think that there is software that can help you recover or change passwords on an XP machine.
Does anyone know or can recommend one?
I requested a new ssl cert from godaddy which has been issued.
When try to install it in iis through the website directory security tab i get a "the pending certificate request for this response file was not found. this request may be cancelled. you cannot install selected response certificate using this wizard" error.
I may have run the wizard and deleted the pending request.
Is there any way i can install the certificate without getting a new one? (i hope so)
I have the original certrequest.txt file
Hi,
I have a Microsoft Small Business Server.
I have pointed an external domain name to the external fixed IP address for the server.
In routing and remote access I have defined a service for our subversion server as follows:
Incoming port: 8443
Private address: 192.168.10.5
Outgoing port: 8443
192.168.10.5 is our development server, not the SBS (which is at 192.168.10.1)
This rule works correctly if I am not on our internal network. However if I am on the internal network this rule does not get applied.
What can I do/set so this rule is applied both internally and externally (so users with laptops et, don't keep having to change the URL by which they access the subversion server)
Not sure what other info you may need, so please let me know if more details are required.

Under WinXP, I could use Task Manager's Users tab to log off my wife's account which she always leaves logged in so I don't have to log in to her account and log it out. It's an older machine so I used that trick to free up every resource I could which might potentially slow down the game I'm playing at the time.
I recently upgraded the machine to Win7 and when I try the same trick, I get an access denied popup. My logged in account does have Admin rights, so is it as simple as runing Task Manager "as an Administrator" in order to allow this? If so, how can I pull up Task Manager (other than the standard CTRL-ALT-DELETE) to have it pop up with Admin rights in order to log her account off in this manner?
Does anyone know an easy way to write files to a DVD from the command line. I've found a program that does it for CDs, and another that writes .ISO images to DVD.
I want to use it to write files to a backup DVD overnight.
Is it possible to dual boot between Ubuntu and W7.vhd? If anyone knows please tell me how.

upgraded my HP pavilion notebook from Vista to 7, no access to internet, HP tech support worked on it for an hour, then referred me to my ISP, who worked for 90 min and referred me to microsoft, my desktop is still running XP and connects fine. help please?
I've got an issue where the same msi installed on a server 2008R2 box A instantiates correctly a COM dll, and not on the (seemingly) same box B.
The installed application is a web application, hosted on IIS.
Here's my question: Is there any tool around that is able to compare two boxes installations? (i need comparisons for registry content, IIS settings, user accounts, policy, you name it...)
Thanks
