• 2D colliding n-body simulation (fast Collision Detection for large number of balls)

  Hello I want to write a program for simulating a motion of high number (N = 1000 - 10^5 and more) of bodies (circles) on 2D plane. All bodies have equal size and the only force between them is elastic collision. I want to get something like but in larger scale, with more balls and more dense filling of the plane (not a gas model as here, but smth like boiling water model). So I want a fast method of detection that ball number i does have any other ball on its path within 2*radius+V*delta_t distance. I don't want to do a full search of collision with N balls for each of i ball. (This search will be N^2.) PS Sorry for loop-animated GIF. Just press Esc to stop it. (Will not work in Chrome).

  I'm searching for a "suck less" WYSIWYG browser HTML editor that generates good HTML code. (no <font>, <foo style="...">, <p></p><span></span><p><span>&nbsp;</span><span><span>blah</span></<span></p> and so on -- <b> and <i> etc is ok). Should be easy-to-use as it is going to be used by people that do not know what HTML is. Any suggestions? (I found a lot of editors but they all create that <font> and nested <span> crap that breaks site design and bloats a site with one table up to 100kB.)

• Too many connections to 212.192.255.240

  Recently, my Internet slowed down drastically. I downloaded a tool to see the TCP/IP connections from my Vista computer. I found out that a lot TCP/IP connections are being connected to 212.192.255.240 through SVCHost. It seems that it is trying to connect to different ports. I think that my computer is being infected with some kind of malware etc. But I am not sure how to get rid of it. I did a little bit of research on this IP but found nothing. Any suggestions are highly appreciated. UPDATE: This is the HiJackThis log file and I can't find any thing weird. Also, the program is also trying to create connections to 91.205.127.63, which is also from Russia. • Variable in one query is getting into another query in view

  I have two foreach statements. The variable from one one is somehow getting into another and i'm not sure how to fix it. The businesses are pulled from the database using the categoryPageList($id) function. Instead, it's showing the row ID of the category table. so, if i'm viewing /site/categories/6 <?=$crow->id?> will show 6 when it should be showing 10 (the row ID of the only business in that category at this time. How can I fix this?

• How can I extract similarities/patterns from a collection of binary strings?

  I have a collection of binary strings of given size encoding effective solutions to a given problem. By looking at them, I can spot obvious similarities and intuitively see patterns of symmetry and periodicity. Are there mathematical/algorithmic tools I can "feed" this set of strings to and get results that might give me an idea of what this set of strings have in common? By doing so I would be able to impose a structure (or at least favor some features over others) on candidate solutions in order to greatly reduce the search space, maximizing chances to find optimal solutions for my problem (I am using genetic algorithms as the search tool - but this is not pivotal to the question). Any pointers/approaches appreciated.

• Installing MonoDevelop on Suse Enterprise 10.0

  I tried to install MonoDevelop on Suse 11.0 Enterprise, using the 1-click install on the MonoDevelop download page, but quickly wound up in a tangle of missing dependencies. I then tried using the Suse software repositories to get MonoDevelop, and waded through several of the dependencies for awhile trying to get the necessary packages to fulfill the dependencies, but some of the packages in the Suse repositories actually appear to be missing the needed RPM files. Are these repositories no longer being actively maintained? I am aware that there is a CD on the Mono site (called the Mono LiveCD) that appears to contain a complete installation of the development environment, as well as a DVD for OpenSuse 11.2 (on the OpenSuse site) that might actually have all of the Mono software already installed. But the target environment for the utility I am writing is Suse 11.0 Enterprise Server. Does that matter? What is the shortest distance between two points here?

• How do I sign exes and dlls with my code signing certificate

  (I purchased a code signing cert from Thawte and have been going out of my mind with frustration at the whole process. What I have from them are: .spc / .p7b file .pvk file (NOTE I do not have a pfx file from them. God knows why, but I have been fighting with their tech support for a week) In any case I find "help" links on their site and at MS for signcode.exe which is useless for me because I can't find that exe on my machine, however I do have signtool.exe. Unfortunately i am mystified at the command line parameters listed on this MS help site. Specifically, what parameters do I use and what values? I tried what I thought was obvious but it does not work at all. I can get the signing wizard to work, however I need this to work non-interactively in a hudson CI batch file. It really doesn't seem like it should be this difficult, but so far it is all black magic. thanks for any help

• OAuth gives me 401 error

  I am trying to get the access key but I cannot make it work. `request_token.get_access_token is giving me 401 Unauthorized (OAuth::Unauthorized) error. I copy the authorize_url into my browser, allow the application, I receive some kind of PIN from twitter but after hitting enter in my script I always get 401 error.   I'm trying to add weights to search terms I'm using to filter a queryset. Using the '%' wildcard is causing me some problems. I'm using the extra() modifier to add a weight parameter to the queryset, which I will be using to inform a sort ordering. (for example, if 'term' = 'Jon', an entry with first_name='Jon' gets a weight of 2 but an entry with an entry with first_name = 'Jonathan' gets a weight of 1.) I can test the statement in SQL and it seems to work well enough.   Hi! I'm implementing a new machine learning algorithm in Java that extracts a prototype datastructure from a set of structured datasets (tree-structure). As im developing a generic library for that purpose, i kept my design independent from concrete data-representations like XML. My problem now is that I need a way to define a data model, which is basically a ruleset describing valid trees, against which a set of trees is being matched. I thought of using BNF or a similar dialect. Basically I need a way to iterate through the space of all valid TreeNodes defined by the ModelTree (Like a search through the search space for algorithms like A*) so that i can compare my set of concrete trees with the model. I know that I'll have to deal with infinite spaces there but first things first. I know, it's rather tricky (and my sentences are pretty bumpy) but I would appreciate any clues. • Workflows for User Profile properties

  Hi Guys, I have a requirement from a client with regards to user profile properties. The requirement is as follows: We would like to setup custom user profile properties such that these values are editable by individuals via their my site. When a user edits this user profile property value, it should not be immediately visible to other users that happen to go to the individual's my site, but rather go through an approval workflow. If the value submitted is approved the user profile property value is updated. As far as I know this is not possible. I do have a work around for this but I want to ensure that I haven't missed anything before going down this path. Thanks in Advance

• Entrepreneur Needs Programmers, Architects, or Engineers?

  Hi guys (Ladies included). I posted on a related site, but THIS is the place to be. I want to build a specialized website. I am an entrepreneur and refining valuations now for venture capitalsists: i.e., determining how much cash I will need. I need help in understanding what human resources I need (i.e., Software Programmers, Architects, Engineers, etc.)??? Trust me, I have read most--if not all--of the threads here on the subject, and I can tell you I am no closer to the answer than ever. Here's my technology problem: The website will include (2) main components: a search engine (web crawler)...and a very large database. The search engine will not be a competitor to google, obviously; however, it "will" require bots to scour the web. The website will be, basically, a statistical database....where users should be able to pull up any statistic from "numerous" fields. Like any entrepreneur with a web-based vision, I'm "hoping" to get 100+ million registered users eventually. However, practically, we will start as small as feasible. As regards the technology (database architecture, servers, etc.), I do want quality, quality, quality. My priorities are speed, and the capaility to be scalable...so that if I "did" get globally large, we could do it without having to re-engineer anything. In other words, I want the back-end and the "infrastructure" to be scalable and professional....with emphasis on quality. I am not an IT professional. Although I've built several Joomla-based websites, I'm just a rookie who's only used minor javascript coding to modify a few plug-ins and components. The business I'm trying to create requires specialization and experts. I want to define the problem and let a capable team create the final product, and I will stay totally hands off. So who do you guys suggest I hire to run this thing? A software engineer? I was thinking I would need a "database engineer," a "systems security engineer", and maybe 2 or 3 "programmers" for the search engine. Also a web designer...and maybe a part-time graphic designer...everyone working under a single software engineer. What do you guys think? Who should I hire?...I REALLY need help from some people in the industry (YOU guys) on this. Is this project do-able in 6 months? If so, how many people will I need? Who exactly needs to head up this thing?...Senior software engineer, an embedded engineer, a CC++ engineer, a java engineer, a database engineer? And do I build this thing is Ruby or Java?

  One of the biggest issues I have, from a UI standpoint, when building a new website is figuring out what colors I will use and of those colors, do they actually work well together. I found this site that has really helped me out and I figured I would share it with all of you and also get some responses back about either sites similar or other ways that you get/figure out your color schemes. Here is the site that I currently use: http://kuler.adobe.com/ With Adobe Kuler, you can chose a base color and it will suggest 5 colors, including your color, that go well with one another. You can, of course, modify the colors it chooses. Also,one of the main features I use, is the image color matching. You can upload an image and it will determine a color scheme based on the colors of the image. So if you have a logo and want to use the colors of the logo, then this works perfectly for you. • Opening a local file in Eclipse from the web

  Right now, when I notice a problem on a page on my PHP web site, I have to look at the URL, mentally deduce what file is responsible for displaying that page, then navigate the Eclipse PDT file tree to open that file. This is annoying and uses brain power that could have been applied to solving the issue instead. I would like my PHP web site to display on every page a link that I could click to automatically open the correct file in Eclipse. I can easily compute the complete absolute path for the file I need to open (for example, open C:/xampp/htdocs/controllers/Foo/Bar.php when visiting /foo/bar), and I can make sure that Eclipse is currently open with the correct project loaded, but I'm stuck on how I can have Firefox/Chrome/IE tell Eclipse to open that specific file.

  I found this website that lets you insert and delete items from a B-tree and shows you visually what the B-tree looks like: java b-tree I'm looking for another website or program similar to this. This site does not allow you to specify a B-tree of order 4 (4 pointers and 3 elements), it only lets you specify B-trees with an even number of elements. Also, if possible, I'd like to be able to insert letters instead of numbers. I think I actually found a different site but that was a while ago and can't find it anymore.

  I don't know what has got into my computer today. I was developing just fine in VS 2008 and testing my ASP.NET web site on my development server. Then suddenly, out of the blue, I can't run my web site any more! As soon as I hit F5, the message appears: Unable to launch the ASP.NET Development server because port '1900' is in use. And it doesn't matter what port I change to, it's always in use! AAARRRGGGHH!!! I have tried: Changing the port number Restarting Visual Studio Rebooting my machine Installing IIS Clue: My IIS refuses to start. But I didn't have IIS installed when I was happily working earlier, so that is probably not the issue; it might just be highlighting something else... Thanks in advance... Update: after rebooting, IIS does start, but the problem here persists.

  My site uses SignalR to communicate cross-domain. It worked great but I updated SignalR from 0.5.0 to 0.5.1 and my site broke. Here's my script: function start() { $.connection.hub.url = "http://otherdomain.com/signalr"; $.connection.hub.start().done(function () { $.connection.myHub.join(); }); } When script calls join - I see in Firebug that it is a POST (I believe it shoold be GET (jsonp) since it is cross domain) with no response. EDIT: I tried $.connection.hub.start({jsonp: true}). Now I have can call server from client but calls from server don't execute on client. I noticed that there are following calls: negotiate and send whereas locally (the same domain) there are: negotiate, connect, send.

It gets published alright but when I try to drill down it throws an error "Data Refresh failed" etc.The data source and the sharpoint site are on the same machine(running windows server 2008) and we have windows authentication running. From what I have been able to find on the internet there is a problem with passing the windows authentication credentials to the database etc.But I have not been able to find the exact way to sort out these problem. What is the solution for this????

  hey folks, I'm setting up a keyword search across multiple fields: name_first, name_middle, name_last but I'm not getting the results I'd like. Here's the query: "SELECT accounts_users.user_ID, users.name_first, users.name_middle, users.name_last, users.company FROM accounts_users, users WHERE accounts_users.account_ID = '$account_ID' AND accounts_users.user_ID = users.id AND CONCAT_WS(' ', users.name_first, users.name_middle, users.name_last) LIKE '$user_keyword%' ORDER BY users.name_first ASC" So, if I've got three names in the DB: Aaron J Ban Aaron J Can Bob L Lawblaw And if the user_keyword == "bob lawblaw" I get no result. If user_keyword == "bob L" then it returns Bob L Lawblaw. Obviously I can't force people to include the persons middle name in their keyword search but I'm stuck for the proper way to do this. All help is greatly appreciated.

I can import wx in the Python interpreter.
