• Video Freezes Every few seconds

  Hi, I have problems playing videos on my Ubuntu 10.10 machine. The video FREEZES every 20-25 seconds, while I could still hear the audio. I use Totem Movie Player (GStreamer) & have nVidia on-board graphics card & AMD DualCore processor. After some 5-10 seconds, the videos resumes skipping the hung portion. But, I can hear the audio of that part! I've tried it with SMPlayer (GUI), VLC & Kaffeine. But, the same problem... I recently uninstalled the nVidia drivers and since then, not even for a second, no video hung! So, I thought its the problem with the proprietary nVidia drivers. But, since its uninstalled, I'm not able to get the desired desktop resolution & effects. So, is there any way I can work it out?

• Ruby on Rails background API polling

  I need to integrate a free/busy calendar integration with Zimbra. Unlike outlook, it seems, Zimbra requires polling their API. I need to be able to grab the free/busy data in background tasks for 10's of thousands of users on a regular time interval, preferably every few minutes. What would be the best way to implement this in a Rails application without bogging down our current resque tasks? I have considered moving this process to something like node.js or something similar in Ruby. The biggest problem is that we have no control over the IO, as each clients Zimbra instances could be slow and we don't want to create a huge backup in tasks. Thoughts and ideas?

• Unable to access internet from devices connected over wifi hotspot with ubuntu 13.04

  I am using ubuntu 13.04 and till couple of days back I was able to connect to internet using the hotspot connection I had created previously when I started using ubuntu 10... But two days back I noticed that devices are getting connected to wifi but are not able to access internet.. I deleted my old wifi hotspot and created a new one by going to network settings and there by clicking create a hotspot option.. I logged in from my wife's laptop which is running on windows 7. It was able to establish connection but was not able to access the internet.. Same is happening with my iPhone too I am able to connect to hotspot but for some reason it is not able to access internet... Any help would be highly appreciated.. Thanks Jacob

  I tried to install Gimp but I get an error that there are unmet dependencies. How can I handle that. I am running UBUNTU 12.04 in 64 bit. • Remote Display Config.sh Using SSH

  How often I see people look to VNC, NXMachine, RDP, etc to get a windowing environment on a remote system.  These products are great and I use them too, but there is a fancy feature in SSH to help. ssh –X remoteserver This is a great feature for hooking into headless VirtualBox machines and remote displaying an install wizard. The remote server must have some lines put in the /etc/ssh/sshd_conf file: X11Forwarding yes X11DisplayOffset 10 The second line is optional, but the first is required.  Restart sshd (sudo /etc/init.d/ssh restart). Now I can ssh –X remote server Then run /opt/app/wls10.3.4/wlserver_10.3/common/bin/config.sh to build a new domain. Note: For some reason, the jdk that comes with WebLogic often fails to work on the remote display.  In that case, I modify the config.sh to just use /usr/bin/java (from openjdk-6-jre package).

• Unity 5.1 audio issues (no sound in back channels)

  I've trying to bring in surround sound audio into my project. I've set my computer up to run in 5.1 and when I play a 6 channel audio through windows media player (it's a test audio that does left speaker, right speaker etc) it works fine. However, when I run it through Unity, all I get is the front 3 channels. I've set it in the Edit - project settings - audio to be 5.1 in there. I even set it in code with following: void Start() { AudioSettings.speakerMode = AudioSpeakerMode.Mode5point1; } How ever, when I run a debug line of: print ( AudioSettings.driverCaps); It tells me that Unity is only playing in stereo. Is there something I'm still not doing? I should also add I've ran 10 different tests using the 3D audio pan and spread options. I've set both to either being fully off, half way on and full. Still the same results.

• Procedural Mesh: UV mapping

  I made a procedural mesh and now I want to apply a texture to it. The problem is, I cannot get it to stick the way I want it to. The idea is to have the texture painted only once over the whole mesh, so that there is no repeating. How should I map the UV to make that happen? My mesh is a simple plane consisting of 56 triangles. I'd add pictures to clear things up but I cannot since my reputation is below 10 points. Any help is appreciated. • How do I determine the draw order in an isometric view flash game?

  This is for a flash game, with isometric view. I need to know how to sort object so that there is no need for z-buffer checking when drawing. This might seem easy but there is another restriction, a scene can have 10,000+ objects so the algorithm needs to be run in less than O(n^2). All objects are rectangular boxes, and there are 3-4 objects moving in the scene. What's the best way to do this? UPDATE in each tile there is only object (I mean objects can stack on top of each other). and we access to both map of Objects and Objects have their own position.

• SOA Suite 11g (11.1.1.3): Creating a single server domain with SOA Suite and Oracle Service Bus func

  One of the major benefits of the latest version of the Oracle SOA products, SOA Suite 11gR1 PS2 (11.1.1.3) and Oracle Service Bus 11gR1 (11.1.1.3), is that both products depend on the same version of WebLogic Server 11g (10.3.3) and so can be installed in the same domain. If you are a developer building artifacts for both but with a laptop/desktop with limited resources then this is particularly useful, as you can install a single server domain (by default you get a domain with an admin server and multiple managed servers) which incorporates both sets of functionality. The viewlet below shows you how to go about creating such a single server domain, using the configuration wizard. Just click the Play button from the viewlet menu to start it. Note: As you have added all this functionality into a single server, it will take a few minutes to start up. As this is my first foray into the world of viewlets I’d be interested in your opinion as to whether you have found this useful and any tips/techniques for improving any future viewlets I may create. What web frameworks scales well and are able to handle more than 10.000 concurrent users connected with Comet or WebSockets. The server is a Linux VPS with limited memory, e.g. 1GB-8GB. I have been looking for some Java frameworks but they consume much memory per connection. So I'm looking for other alternatives too. This is the idea: I'm using a 3G usb modem to get Internet on my laptop ,which is: ppp0 IP=10.225.174.70 My Wifi device is: wlan0 MAC=78:e4:00:d4:3d:85 These devices are determined from ifconfig command. I want to share ppp0's internet connection with wlan0 device, so I can connect any other device to wlan0 and browse internet from that device. Making a Hotspot using Network settings GUI doesn't do the trick because the other device won't receive Internet, it just connects to wlan0. I heard iptables can do this, but I'm totally confused by the alien commands seen online. I'm no expert in networking. Please compose a clear & simple answer using the above devices. This is a huge annoying problem for iPhone & tablet users came to Ubuntu from Windows.

  I just developed my first non-trivial android app. It was a complete nightmare. I came up with an idea, build the app, changed my idea, and implemented a lot of input from others on new features. All in all my app took 10 times longer than I think that it should have, it is almost impossible to look the source code and tell what's going on with the classes, and may or may not have unused methods that I'll never be able to find... So I would like an opinion from those of you with experience on how to plan out my designs for the future. I created a flow chart (pencil drawn) of a plan: I would like constructive criticism.
