• LINQ aggregate / SUM grouping problem

  I'm having trouble getting my head around converting a traditional SQL aggregate query into a LINQ one. The basic data dump works like so: Dim result = (From i As Models.InvoiceDetail In Data.InvoiceDetails.GetAll Join ih As Models.InvoiceHeader In Data.InvoiceHeaders.GetAll On i.InvoiceHeaderID Equals ih.ID Join p As Models.Product In Data.Products.GetAll On i.ProductID Equals p.ID Join pg As Models.ProductGroup In Data.ProductGroups.GetAll On p.ProductGroupID Equals pg.ID Join gl As Models.GLAccount In Data.GLAccounts.GetAll On pg.GLAccountSellID Equals gl.ID Where (gl.ID = GLID) Select ih.Period,i.ExtendedValue) What I need to really be getting out is ih.Period (a value from 1 to 12) and a corresponding aggregate value for i.ExtendedValue. When I try to Group ih I get errors about i being out of scope/context, and I'm not sure how else to go about it.

But, I repeat, it is the one who gives its value to url.

And there are some of the zipcodes which has no entry in zipcode table, so that should remain null. And the major issue is like I have more then 50,00,000 records in my db. So, query should support this feature. I have tried some of the solutions but unfortunately not getting proper output. Any help would be appreciated...

MySQL triggers seem to be just the thing -- but how do I capture the IP address and the web username (as opposed to the mysql username, localhost) of the user who invoked the trigger?   Java has 2 bitshift operators for right shifts: >> shifts right, and is dependant on the sign bit for the sign of the result >>> shifts right and shifts a zero into leftmost bits http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/nutsandbolts/op3.html This seems fairly simple, so can anyone explain to me why this code, when given a value of -128 for bar, produces a value of -2 for foo: byte foo = (byte)((bar & ((byte)-64)) >>> 6); What this is meant to do is take an 8bit byte, mask of the leftmost 2 bits, and shift them into the rightmost 2 bits. Ie: initial = 0b10000000 (-128) -64 = 0b11000000 initial & -64 = 0b10000000 0b10000000 >>> 6 = 0b00000010 The result actually is -2, which is 0b11111110 Ie. 1s rather than zeros are shifted into left positions

  Anyone want to take a stab at why this bookmarklet fails in IE8? It turns all text uppercase in Friefox and Safari. But in IE8, it simply stalls with "loading..." • App engine datastore - query on Enum fields.

  I am using GAE(Java) with JDO for persistence. I have an entity with a Enum field which is marked as @Persistent and gets saved correctly into the datastore (As observed from the Datastore viewer in Development Console). But when I query these entities putting a filter based on the Enum value, it is always returning me all the entities whatever value I specify for the enum field. I know GAE java supports enums being persisted just like basic datatypes. But does it also allow retrieving/querying based on them? Google search could not point me to any such example code. Details: I have printed the Query just before being executed. So in two cases the query looks like - SELECT FROM com.xxx.yyy.User WHERE role == super ORDER BY key desc RANGE 0,50 SELECT FROM com.xxx.yyy.User WHERE role == admin ORDER BY key desc RANGE 0,50 Both above queries return me all the User entities from datastore in spite of datastore viewer showing some Users are of type 'admin' and some are of type 'super'.

• One position right barrel shift using ALU Operators?

  I was wondering if there was an efficient way to perform a shift right on an 8 bit binary value using only ALU Operators (NOT, OR, AND, XOR, ADD, SUB) Example: input: 00110101 output: 10011010 I have been able to implement a shift left by just adding the 8 bit binary value with itself since a shift left is equivalent to multiplying by 2. However, I can't think of a way to do this for shift right. The only method I have come up with so far is to just perform 7 left barrel shifts. Is this the only way?

  I'm struggling to understand what precisely does it mean when a value has type A @cps[B,C] and what types of this form should I assign to my values when using the delimited continuations facility. I've looked at some sources: http://lamp.epfl.ch/~rompf/continuations-icfp09.pdf http://www.scala-lang.org/node/2096 http://dcsobral.blogspot.com/2009/07/delimited-continuations-explained-in.html http://blog.richdougherty.com/2009/02/delimited-continuations-in-scala_24.html but they didn't give me much intuition into this. In the last link, the author tries to give an explicit explanation, but it is not clear enough anyway. The A here represents the output of the computation, which is also the input to its continuation. The B represents the return type of that continuation, and the C represents its "final" return type—because shift can do further processing to the returned value and change its type. I don't understand the difference between "output of the computation", "return type of the continuation" and "final return type of the continuation". They sound like synonyms.

Many questions asked on Stack Overflow could easily be solved by taking some time to step some code in a debugger, and it would be good to have a community-approved resource to "teach them how to fish", so to speak. Even for those seasoned veterans who occasionally find themselves in gdb when they are accustomed to a GUI-tastic debugger might benefit from those who are much more familiar with the command line tool. For starters (both to gdb and to prime this thread) I submit: Ninefinger's gdb primer The gdb quick reference guide, which is useful for telling you what commands are available but not how best to use them. My hope is this thread is a seed planted that is of continued value to the community. If by "continued value" the community decides to nix it altogether, well then the masses have spoken.

• SignalR recording when a Web Page has closed

  I am using MassTransit request and response with SignalR. The web site makes a request to a windows service that creates a file. When the file has been created the windows service will send a response message back to the web site. The web site will open the file and make it available for the users to see. I want to handle the scenario where the user closes the web page before the file is created. In that case I want the created file to be emailed to them. Regardless of whether the user has closed the web page or not, the message handler for the response message will be run. What I want to be able to do is have some way of knowing within the response message handler that the web page has been closed. This is what I have done already. It doesnt work but it does illustrate my thinking. On the web page I have $(window).unload(function () { if (event.clientY < 0) { // $.connection.hub.stop(); $.connection.exportcreate.setIsDisconnected(); } }); exportcreate is my Hub name. In setIsDisconnected would I set a property on Caller? Lets say I successfully set a property to indicate that the web page has been closed. How do I find out that value in the response message handler. This is what it does now protected void BasicResponseHandler(BasicResponse message) { string groupName = CorrelationIdGroupName(message.CorrelationId); GetClients()[groupName].display(message.ExportGuid); } private static dynamic GetClients() { return AspNetHost.DependencyResolver.Resolve<IConnectionManager>().GetClients<ExportCreateHub>(); } I am using the message correlation id as a group. Now for me the ExportGuid on the message is very important. That is used to identify the file. So if I am going to email the created file I have to do it within the response handler because I need the ExportGuid value. If I did store a value on Caller in my hub for the web page close, how would I access it in the response handler. Just in case you need to know. display is defined on the web page as exportCreate.display = function (guid) { setTimeout(function () { top.location.href = 'GetExport.ashx?guid=' + guid; }, 500); }; GetExport.ashx opens the file and returns it as a response. Depending upon the server, i want to fire the log. In case of Development server, it would fire log from "emailDevelopment". I have a system variable in each server named "ApplicationEnvironment" whose value is Development, Beta, Production based on the server names. • Share data between usercontrols

  On my page I have n-userControls (same control) I need to communicate between them(to be more specific I need to pass one in value) . I don't want to involve the hosting page for that. The controls acts as "pagers" and interact with the paged data on the hostin page via events that hosting page is subscribed to. So when user click on one of the pager and changes it's state, the other control should know about it and change itself accordingly. I can not use VieState because viewstate is per control and so is the controlstate. Can I use Session for that? (session is shared and there is only one value that i need to store) Or maybe there is something better I can use? (no QueryString)

  Hi, I have a simple PHP-based XSLT trasform code that looks like that: $xsl = new XSLTProcessor(); $xsl->registerPHPFunctions(); $xsl->setParameter("","searchterms", $searchterms); $xsl->importStylesheet($xslDoc); echo $xsl->transformToXML($doc); The code passes the variable $searchterms, which contains a string, as a parameter to the XSLT style sheet which in turns uses it as a text: <title>search feed for <xsl:value-of select="$searchterms"/></title> This works fine until you try to pass a string with mixes in it, say: $searchterms = '"some"'." text's quotes are mixed." In that point the XSLT processor screams: Cannot create XPath expression (string contains both quote and double-quotes) What is the correct way to safely pass arbitrary strings as input to XSLT? Note that these strings will be used as a text value in the resulting XML and not as an XPATH paramater. Thanks, Boaz

• jQuery global variable best practice & options?

  Currently I am working on a legacy web page that uses a ton of javascript, jquery, microsoft client javascript, and other libraries. The bottom line - I cannot rewrite the entire page from scratch as the business cannot justify it. So... it is what it is. Anyway, I need to pollute (I really tried not too) the global namespace with a variable. There are the three options I was thinking - Just store/retrieve it using a normal javascript declaration - var x = 0; Utilize jQuery to store/retrieve the value in a DOM tag - $("body").data("x", 0); Utilize a hidden form field, and set/retrieve the value with jQuery - $("whatever").data("x", 0); What does everyone think? Is there a better way? I looked at the existing pile of code and I do not believe the variable can be scoped in a function.

  Maybe I'm seeing things.. In an attempt to turn a date with a format of "mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss PM" into military time, the following replacement of a row value does not seem to take. Even though I am sure I have done this before (with column values other than dates). Is there some reason that row["adate"] would not accept a value assigned to it in this case? • Stuck on preserving config file in WIX major upgrade!

  ARGH! Wix is driving me crazy. So, of course I have seen the many posts both here on stackoverflow and elsewhere about WiX and major upgrades. I inherited this software project using WiX and am releasing a new version. I need this new version to leave ONLY the one configuration file if it's present, and replace everything else. This installer works EXCEPT no matter what I have done so far, the new XML file replaces the old on every install. Even attempting to use NeverOverwrite="yes" and even trying and messing back and forth with OnlyDetect="no"! I am simply stuck and humbly request a little guidance. The file that needs to be preserved is called SETTINGS.XML and is in the All Users-ApplicationData directory. • Chained address rewrite

  What I need to do is rewriting this address: (1) http://localhost/wordpress/fake/text-value to (2) http://localhost/wordpress/gallery?somevar=text-value Notes: the remapping must be transparent: the user always has to see address (1) gallery is a permalink to a wordpress page, not a real address I basically need to rewrite the address first (to modify it) and then feed it back to mod rewrite again (to let wordpress parse it its own way). Problems if I simply do RewriteRule ^fake$ http://localhost/wordpress/gallery [L] it works but the address in the browser changes, which is no good, if I do RewriteRule ^fake$ /wordpress/gallery [L] I get a 404. I tried different flags instead of [L] but to no avail. How can I get this to work?

• m2eclipse resource filtering

  I've having problems with resource filtering using m2eclipse Maven support in Eclipse. It seems that filtering only takes place on resources that have changed. This is fundamentally flawed because, if I have a file that references properties (e.g. ${my.property}, if the value of the property changes, the filtering will only be performed if the referencing file is also modified - if I only change the property value (in my pom.xml), the filtering is not applied to the files that that reference it. So, if I make a change to a property in my pom file, the filtering is not applied. However, if I then go to the file that references that property (e.g. a Spring config file) then edit and save it, the filtering is applied. I did read somewhere that: "m2eclipse skips filtering if there were no resource changes during incremental build" I'm using m2eclipse 0.10.x Has anyone else come across this? Thanks, Andrew

  Are there any libraries or tools specifically designed to help PHP programmers write Javascript? Essentially, converting the PHP logic into Javascript logic. For instance: $document = new Document($html); $myFoo = $document->getElementById("foo"); $myFoo->value = "Hello World"; Being converted into the following output: var myFoo = document.getElementById("foo"); myFoo.value = "Hello World"; Of course it would be excellent if more complicated solutions could be derived too, perhaps converting objects and internal methods into javascript-objects, etc.
