  I have an HttpHandler class (implements IHttphandler) where the path defined for the handler in web.config is *.jpg. I am requesting a Jpg image in my page. Within the HTTP Handler I am writing to a file in the filesystem. By mistake I was trying to write to a non existant directory. This should have thrown an exception but the execution simply proceeds.Ofcourse no file is writte. But if I give a proper directory the file is written correctly.Is there anything special about HttpHandler Exceptions.   Hi all, I'm getting this warning when I'm calling a local routine.   I am looking for a lightweight php framework with the following qualifications: ability to write my own sql queries ( i simply don't trust CakePHP like method where the framework does your sql for you); ability to integrate Jquery easily; built-in templating, or relatively easy to introduce Smarty (or another templating engine) into it; MVC; fast Any advice/comparison? i have looked into CodeIgniter, Symfony and CakePHP so far. Symfony is slow, and CakePHP is too inaccessible ...so far my choice would be CodeIgniter. I played with it a bit, but i would like to hear more experiences. I am looking for a framework that will "enforce" organization of my app in a logical way - MVC seems like a great choice.

  Hi, i have a form where i have the field "Real Cost" i want to customize its appearance and wither it should be validated based on user role. to be more clear is say the client want to show his field in the form or details page and also make it editable for users in Roles "Senior Sales, Manager" but not other roles, so can anyone please guide me of the best way ? should i write custom required validation based on user in role, and if so can you please provide the right implementation of it? some may tell me create custom model for this, but i think it would be hassle plus the Roles will be dynamic so it is not predefined set of roles. i hope i was clear enough

  i am planning a simple, dual-language website and i'd like to use a .net based cms but i can't find anything suitable. i have experience with dotnetnuke and sharepoint but neither fit the bill - dotnetnuke does not do dynamic site elements multi-lingually & sharepoint is a monster PITA no matter what angle you look at it :). i am on the verge of choosing Joomla! & Joom!Fish. they fit the bill nicely, with one exception: i would like to create some cms plug-ins and i would much prefer to write them in .net. any suggestions?

• C# Multithreading File IO (Reading)

  We have a situation where our application needs to process a series of files and rather than perform this function synchronously, we would like to employ multi-threading to have the workload split amongst different threads. Each item of work is: 1. Open a file for read only 2. Process the data in the file 3. Write the processed data to a Dictionary We would like to perform each file's work on a new thread? Is this possible and should be we better to use the ThreadPool or spawn new threads keeping in mind that each item of "work" only takes 30ms however its possible that hundreds of files will need to be processed. Any ideas to make this more efficient is appreciated.

• On MacOSX, in a C++ program, what guarantees can I have on file IO

  I am on MacOSX. I am writing a multi threaded program. One thread does logging. The non-logging threads may crash at any time. What conventions should I adopt in the logger / what guarantees can I have? I would prefer a solution where even if I crash during part of a write, previous writes still go to disk, and when reading back the log, I can figure out "ah, I wrote 100 complete enties, then I crashed on the 101th". • onload Event in embedded SVG not calling function in attached script. Scope Issue?

  Hi So I've got an XHTML page with a script - not inline > <script type="text/javascript" > src="../global/js/scripts.js"></script> and an embedded (I tried embed and object, same behavior) SVG document with a onload="CheckIfLoaded(evt)" attribute. The problem is firefox doesn't call the CheckIfLoaded() function in scripts.js. Firebug gives me "CheckIfLoaded() is not defined" with no reference to any line numbers. I can't find any information regarding the scope of javascript functions with respect to embedded content. Curiously, it works fine in IE. I could of course add a reference to the script into the SVG file as well but I believe that will result in the client downloading the scripts file twice and in addition I have 1000+ svg files and I'd really rather not add one line to all of them, although I suppose I could write a batch file or whatever if I have to.   I'm wonder about best approach of implementation auth. rules in Client-Server app using Business Objects. I've noticed common tactic is: - on DB side: implement one role for application, used for all app's users - definition users right and roles and assign users to proper group - Client side: add to Business Object's getters/setters rights checker allowing write / display data for particular user My concern is if this is really good approach from security perspective. It looks DB sends all information to Client, and then client's logic decide what to display or not. So, potentially advanced user can make query from their box and see/change anything. Isn't it?

• How to learn high-level Java web development concepts

  I have some experience writing web applications in Java for class projects. My first project used Servlets and my second, the Stripes framework. However, I feel that I am missing the greater picture of Java web development. I don't really understand the web.xml and context.xml files. I'm not sure what constitutes a Java EE application as opposed to a generic Java web application. I can't figure out how a bean is different from an ordinary Java class (POJO?) and how that differs from an Enterprise Java Bean (EJB). These are just the first few questions I could think of, but there are many more. What is a good way to learn how Java web applications function from the top down rather than simply how to develop an application with a specific framework? (Is there a book for this sort of thing?) Ultimately, I would like to understand Java web applications well enough to write my own framework.

• Storing file permissions in Subversion repository

  How do you store file permissions in a repository? A few files need to be read-only to stop a third party program from trashing it but after checking out of the repository they are set to read-write. I looked on google and found a blog post from 2005 that states that Subversion doesn't store file-permissions. There are patches and hook-scripts listed (only one url still exists). Three years later does Subversion still not store file permissions and are hooks the only way to go about this? (I've never done hooks and rather use something that is native to Subversion.)

I have integrate Facebook Connect with my iPhone app. So as per step i have to write path of src folder into 'Header path info' Field in Project Build. I have given the absolute path to 'Header path info' Field. and its run fine without any Error.. But, Now When i Move the project folder to another destination, its but obvious, that path of src folder will change… So Now after moving file, when i run an application, It gives path error. So is there any way to solve this path issue? this comes when i run an app in simulator, and i guess It also won't run in iPhone because of problem of path of src folder.   I have a database with a column I wish to index that has comma-delimited names, e.g., User.FullNameList = "Helen Ready, Phil Collins, Brad Paisley" I prefer to tokenize each name atomically (name as a whole searchable entity). What is the best approach for this? Did I miss a simple option to set the tokenize delimiter? Do I have to subclass or write my own class that to roll my own tokenizer? Something else? ;) Or does Lucene.net not support phrases? Or is it smart enough to handle this use case automatically? I'm sure I'm not the first person to have to do this. Googling produced no noticeable solutions.

  I would like to have users authenticate against an ActiveDirectory LDAP server using the DOMAIN\user.name syntax. I think that should be possible with SpringSec 3.0 since the docs mention an "alternative syntax" which I guess refers to the DOM\user syntax instead of a bind DN, but the docs don't elaborate further. Is there some way to configure Spring Sec 3 LDAP to use "the MS way" or do I have to write my own Authenticator implementation (against e.g. the java.naming.directory package, which I've tested to be able to use the MS syntax as its SECURITY_PRINCIPAL)?

  I tried to find the answer of my question on the internet, but I could not. I have a simple entity in Core data that has a Value attribute (that is integer) and a Date attribute. I want to define two methods in my .m file. First method is the ADD method. It takes two arguments: an integer value (entered by user in UI) and a date (current date by default). and then insert a record into the entity based on the arguments. Second method is like an increment method. It uses the Date as a key to find a record and then increment the integer value of that record. I don't know how to write these methods. (assume that we have an Array Controller for the table in the xib file)

• OpenCL or OpenGL – which one to use?

  My Problem involves a black and white image with a black area in the middle. I never worked with OpenGL or OpenCL before so I do not know which one to chose. I want to put some white circles over the area and check at the end whether the whole image is white. I will try many combinations so I want to use the GPU because of its parallelism. Should I use OpenGL and create the circle as a texture and put it on top of the image or should I write some OpenCL kernels which work on the pixel/entries in the matrix?

• What is the right tool to detect VMT or heap corruption in Delphi ?

  I'm a member in a team that use Delphi 2007 for a larger application and we suspect heap corruption because sometimes there are strange bugs that have no other explanation. I believe that the Rangechecking option for the compiler is only for arrays. I want a tool that give an exception or log when there is a write on a memory address that is not allocated by the application. Unfortunately I think that the solution is deeper than that. We use a patched version of Bold for Delphi as we own the source. Probably there are some errors introduced in the Bold framwork. Yes we have a log with callstacks that are handled by JCL and also trace messages. EDIT3: The theory right now is that the Virtual Memory Table (VMT) is somehow broken. When this happen there is no indication of it. Only when a method is called an exception is raised (ALWAYS on address FFFFFFDD, -35 decimal) but then it is too late. You don't know the real cause for the error. Any hint of how to catch a bug like this is really appreciated!!! We have tried with SafeMM, but the problem is that the memory consumption is too high even when the 3 GB flag is used. So now I try to give a bounty to the SO community :) EDIT4: One hint is that according the log there is often (or even always) another exception before this. It can be for example optimistic locking in the database. We have tried to raise exceptions by force but in test environment it just works fine. EDIT5: Story continues... I did a search on the logs for the last 30 days now. The result: "Read of address FFFFFFDB" 0 "Read of address FFFFFFDC" 24 "Read of address FFFFFFDD" 270 "Read of address FFFFFFDE" 22 "Read of address FFFFFFDF" 7 "Read of address FFFFFFE0" 20 "Read of address FFFFFFE1" 0 So the current theory is that an enum (there is a lots in Bold) overwrite a pointer. I got 5 hits with different address above. It could mean that the enum holds 5 values where the second one is most used. If there is an exception a rollback should occur for the database and Boldobjects should be destroyed. Maybe there is a chance that not everything is destroyed and a enum still can write to an address location. If this is true maybe it is possible to search the code by a regexpr for an enum with 5 values ? EDIT6: To summarize, no there is no solution to the problem yet. I realize that I may mislead you a bit with the callstack. Yes there are a timer in that but there are other callstacks without a timer. Sorry for that. But there are 2 common factors. An exception with Read of address FFFFFFxx. Top of callstack is System.TObject.InheritsFrom (sys\system.pas:9237) This convince me that VilleK best describe the problem. I'm also convinced that the problem is somewhere in the Bold framework. But the BIG question is, how can problems like this be solved ? It is not enough to have an Assert like VilleK suggest as the damage has already happened and the callstack is gone at that moment. So to describe my view of what may cause the error: Somewhere a pointer is assigned a bad value 1, but it can be also 0, 2, 3 etc. An object is assigned to that pointer. There is method call in the objects baseclass. This cause method TObject.InheritsForm to be called and an exception appear on address FFFFFFDD. Those 3 events can be together in the code but they may also be used much later. I think this is true for the last method call. EDIT7: We work closely with the the author of Bold Jan Norden and he recently found a bug in the OCL-evaluator in Bold framework. When this was fixed these kinds of exceptions decreased a lot but they still occasionally come. But it is a big relief that this is almost solved.
