  • Can I send a ctrl-C (SIGINT) to an application on Windows?

    I have (in the past) written cross-platform (Windows/Unix) applications which, when started from the command line, handled a user-typed Ctrl-C combination in the same way (i.e. to terminate the application cleanly). Is it possible on Windows to send a Ctrl-C/SIGINT/equivalent to a process from another (unrelated) process to request that it terminate cleanly (giving it an opportunity to tidy up resources etc.)?

    Most of my users have email addresses associated with their profile in /etc/passwd. They are always in the 5th field, which I can grab, but they appear at different places within a comma-separated list in the 5th field. Can somebody give me a regex to grab just the email address (delimeted by commas) from a line in this file?   • Feeding PDF through IInternetSession to WebBrowser control - Error

    As related to my previous question, I have developed a temporary asynchronous pluggable protocol with the specific aim to be able to serve PDF documents directly to a WebBrowser control via a database. I need to do this because my limitations include not being able to access the disk other than IsolatedStorage; and a MemoryStream would be far better for serving up PDF documents that average around 31kb. Unfortunately the code doesn't work, and I'm getting an error from the WebBrowser control (i.e. IE): Unable to download . Unable to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later. The line in my code where this occurs is within the following: pOIProtSink.ReportData(BSCF.BSCF_LASTDATANOTIFICATION, (uint)_stream.Length, (uint)_stream.Length); However, if you download the project and run it, you will be able to see the stream is successfully read and passed to the browser, so it seems like there's a problem somewhere to do with the end of reading the data: public uint Read(IntPtr pv, uint cb, out uint pcbRead) { var bytesToRead = Math.Min(cb, _streamBuffer.Length); pcbRead = (uint)_stream.Read(_streamBuffer, 0, (int)bytesToRead); Marshal.Copy(_streamBuffer, 0, pv, (int)pcbRead); return (pcbRead == 0 || pcbRead < cb) ? EDIT: A friend suggested inserting a line that calls the IInternetProtocolSink.ReportProgress with BINDSTATUS_CACHEFILENAMEAVAILABLE pointing at the original file. This prevents it from failing now and shows the PDF in the Adobe Reader control, but means it defeats the purpose of this by having Adobe Reader simply load from the cache file (which I can't provide).   • Inserting newlines into a GtkTextView widget (GTK+ programming)

    I've got a button which when clicked copies and appends the text from a GtkEntry widget into a GtkTextView widget. (This code is a modified version of an example found in the "The Text View Widget" chapter of Foundations of GTK+ Development.) I'm looking to insert a newline character before the text which gets copied and appended, such that each line of text will be on its own line in the GtkTextView widget. How would I do this? I'm brand new to GTK+.   • Encoding MP3 and adding VBR or Xing headers (with lame or another method)

    I'm writing a program that converts wavs to mp3s, so far, by using lame. It's generating a command line more or less like this: "c:\Program Files (x86)\Lame for Audacity\lame.exe" --preset fast medium in.wav out.mp3 The problem I'm having is that no VBR or Xing headers are written to the MP3. How can I make lame.exe write those headers? Should I use another program to write those headers (platform is Windows, .Net 3.5)? Should I use another program for MP3 encoding?

    Hi All, Actually am try to get a report on merge conflicts. I used 'git blame' to see who has changed what line, but i couldn't find the branch and repository name information. Is there a way to find the repository name, branch name and author name of a file from 'git blame' or from commit ids' so that whenever a merge conflict occurs i can send an email to the authors who have touched that file/lines to resolve it.   • problem with xdebug vim plugin

    Hi, I am using xdebug plugin for vim. After making few changes i was able to run debugger but not able to set breakpoints. So, I enabled xdebug.remote_log and below is the log statements corresponding to setting breakpoint. <- breakpoint_set -i 5 -t line -f file:///C:\htdocs\testLocal.php -n 36 - Its issuing request to debugger in proper format only but no idea why debugger is returning "command is not avilable". Please let me know if anything is wrong.

  • Running PHP Zend Test in Eclipse

    Is it possible to run PHP Zend test cases (those that extend Zend_Test_PHPUnit_ControllerTestCase, etc.) through Eclipse PDT? I would like to be able to run them in a similar fashion as you run JUnit tests in Eclipse, by right-clicking the test file and selecting "Run as a JUnit test case."   • What is your most productive shortcut with Vim?

    I've heard a lot about Vim, both pros and cons. It really seems you should be (as a developer) faster with Vim than with any other editor. I'm using Vim to do some basic stuff and I'm at best 10 times less productive with Vim. The only two things you should care about when you talk about speed (you may not care enough about them, but you should) are: Using alternatively left and right hands is the fastest way to use the keyboard. Never touching the mouse is the second way to be as fast as possible. It takes ages for you to move your hand, grab the mouse, move it, and bring it back to the keyboard (and you often have to look at the keyboard to be sure you returned your hand properly to the right place) Here are two examples demonstrating why I'm far less productive with Vim. Copy/Cut & paste. I do it all the time. With all the classical editors you press Shift with the left hand, and you move the cursor with your right hand to select text. Then Ctrl+C copies, you move the cursor and Ctrl+V pastes. With Vim it's horrible: yy to copy one line (you almost never want the whole line!) [number xx]yy to copy xx lines into the buffer. But you never know exactly if you've selected what you wanted. I often have to do [number xx]dd then u to undo! Another example? Search & replace. In PSPad: Ctrl+f then type what you want you search for, then press Enter. In Vim: /, then type what you want to search for, then if there are some special characters put \ before each special character, then press Enter. And everything with Vim is like that: it seems I don't know how to handle it the right way. NB : I've already read the Vim cheat sheet :) My question is: What is the way you use Vim that makes you more productive than with a classical editor?
