  • Best IDE for javascript server development

    After reading http://www.pragprog.com/magazines/2010-03/javascript-its-not-just-for-browsers-any-more im wondering which is the best IDE to develop service-side javascript applications? I want a nice development environment with commonjs and node etc. Preferebly windows but anything is interesting really. Is there any IDE with some nifty refactoring tools, maybe some intellisense-like function, etc etc.. Or is it notepad++ ftw?

  • How do Tomcat examples work?

    Alright, this is a very simple question. I just installed Tomcat 6 on my Mac to play around with it, and every tutorial I look at says the first thing to do to create a new web application is to add a line to the server.xml file with defines a new Context. Fair enough. However, my question is, I don't see a line in there for the example web applications, so how do those work?

The significance of an OS or desktop application is getting less attention than web application. So to those folks out there who still develop windows applications, such as WPF. Why still do it?     I once found a nifty little library that used JNI to allow java applications on Windows to get the locations of various "special" directories on windows. I can't for the life of me find it again... In particular, I need to get the location of the "All Users" (shared) "Application Data" directory. So, anyone have a bullet proof way in Java to locate the "All Users" "Application Data" folder? It needs to be bullet proof.

    I'm looking for texts that give detailed treatment of assembly programming principles and don't use x86 as the target architecture. I haven't found any recent books like that, but I would expect that there were some good ones written in the 1970s and 1980s, when whole applications were still written in assembly. The architecture used should also be one of the cleaner designs, such as the 6502 or VAX.
