• How do you solve this Haskell problem?

  I want to define a function replicate to replicate a list of numbers by its value using only list comprehension, for example: replicate [5,1,3,2,8,1,2] output: [5,5,5,5,5,1,3,3,3,2,2,8,8,8,8,8,8,8,8,1,2,2] I know this would be easy to use the 'replicate' built in function but only list comprehension is allow, how can I do this? • matlab: subs on symbolic constant returns scalar instead of vector for a vector input

  usually, symbolic functions return vectors for vector inputs: syms('x'); f=x*2; subs(f,[1 2 3]) outputs: [2 4 6] but doing f=sym('0'); subs(f,[1 2 3]); outputs: 0 and not: [0 0 0] so basically, my questions is how do I make f behave as a "normal" symbolic function. I can do something ugly like f=x-x to create a function that always returns zero, but is there a prettier way?

  Sorry for the dramatic sounding title, just wanted to know if there is a way to prevent all types of PHP commands from executing EXCEPT one. For example, now when I kill a script using die() my pages look half broken because the bottom part of the page's html failed to load since it was being brought in using the include() function. So is there a way to tell PHP "don't allow any more commands to be executed except the include function" ?

  To my understanding the difference between a macro and a function is, that a macro-call will be replaced by the instruction in the definition, and a function does the whole push, branch and pop -thing. Is this right, or have I understand something wrong? Additionally, if this is right, it would mean, that macros would take more space, but would be faster (because of the lack of the push,branch and pop instructions.), wouldn't it?

  In an app I'm profiling, I found that in some scenarios this function is able to take over 10% of total execution time. MSVC++ 2008 compiler is being used, for reference... • Optimizing division/exponential calculation

  I've inherited a Visual Studio/VB.Net numerical simulation project that has a likely inefficient calculation. Profiling indicates that the function is called a lot (1 million times plus) and spends about 50% of the overall calculation within this function. Here is the problematic portion Result = (A * (E ^ C)) / (D ^ C * B) (where A-C are local double variables and D & E global double variables) Result is then compared to a threshold which might have additional improvements as well, but I'll leave them another day any thoughts or help would be appreciated Steve
