  Hi, I'd like to start a service with monit but only when I have the correct ip bound to the host. Can this be done somehow with the normal config? For example I want to start a process xxx with pidfile xxx.pid, but only if host currently has 10.0.0.1 bound to some interface.

  I'm trying to install Red5 on a vps running CentOS 5.7 in MediaTemple using this how-to (dv):Install Red5 Media Server but on step 7 I get this error: BUILD FAILED /usr/local/red5/build.xml:217: The following error occurred while executing this line: /usr/local/red5/build.xml:238: Error running /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0.x86_64/bin/javac compiler Any idea how to fix it? Already Google and several users have had this same issue but none posted the solution or they never solved.   I'm trying to write an upstart file for OpenConnect. The task is pretty simple, but I'm stuck because I don't want to provide the username and password in a config file, but prompt the user to provide them each time. The upstart file, placed in /etc/init/openconnect.conf is exec /usr/sbin/openconnect --script=/etc/vpnc/vpnc-script my-gw.example.com However, when I execute start openconnect the process is backgrounded immediately and I get no chance to provide input. How can I make this upstart job ask the user for input?

  I have a mercurial web-frontend (hgwebdir.cgi) installed on a server, and an installation of nginx was installed in front of it as a reverse proxy to the web-frontend as my friend suggested. However, whenever a large changeset is pushed (via a script), it would fail. I found an issue ticket @google-code that describe similar problem, and there is a solution that says (#39) So the server side answer is: don't send the 401 back early. Be as slow/dumb as 'hg serve' and make the hg client send the bundle twice. How do I do that? Some servers refuse the BODY, simplying closing the pipe from the client and causing Mercurial to fail. Some, like Apache (at least the way I configure it, and that could be part of the problem) and nginx (they way BitBucket.org configures it), accept the BODY, though it may take a few retries. Bottom line: if Mercurial doesn't fail the push, it sends the changeset data at least once to a server that has already told it it lacks credentials (more on this at Blame). Assuming Mercurial is still running, it resends the "unbundle" request and data, this time with authentication. Finally, Apache accepts the data successfully. Nginx, OTOH, at least under BitBucket's configuration, seems to reassemble the previous body (the one that lacked authentication) and somehow keep Mercurial from re-sending the whole body.

  I'm running into a problem with Sendmail trying to implement SMTP- auth. I"m running 8.14.5 and have saslauthd running under FreeBSD 7.0-R. I don't believe I have starttls enabled (but I also compiled a version with it and have been testing it too - same problem) - just looking for basic auth, but am wondering if my configuration is not compatible with modern mail clients? I don't think I have any certs set up. It seems an older version of Microsoft Outlook Express works fine with SMTP-auth with no problems, but Outlook 2010 won't work, and neither will Eudora (basic settings to not use encryption and use same uid/pw as pop3 account name) When trying to send mail the server reports: "550 571 Relaying Denied. Proper authentication required." Is there some config that I am missing? • Monitor uSWGI via Nagios: invalid socket

  I'm trying to monitor uSWGI via Nagios, but according to uWSGI I have specified an invalid socket. The socket path I got from the JSON config file which also says chmod-socket: 666 so I have a hunch that the problem is permission based. • Why Does DreamWeaver CS5 Discriminate between File Extensions, Even After Modding Mime Types!?

  Hi folks, Even After I forced DreamWeaver CS5 to allow opening of .ast extensions as a MIME type of php5, which DreamWeaver now opens and colors correctly as described here, I still have trouble figuring out why it still discriminates between the two file extensions! Symptoms: External Files & Design View I have a file foo.php which php includes other files (e.g. the php-combined css.php and js.php). Now, when opening foo.php all functions work perfectly: the external (included) php files are all recognised correctly. However, when I change foo.php foo.ast, and open it again, It does not recognise the files extensions anymore in the top bar. Also, I lose the Design / Live View functionality.** When I change foo.ast to foo.php, all works again! Anyone any clues of why there remains a a difference between one and other extension?   YSlow always tells me my content is not served from a CDN no matter what value(s) I put in about:config extensions.yslow.cdnHostnames. I've tried entering my.cdn.com, http://my.cdn.com/folder1/a/b/, http://my.cdn.com basically every variation I could think of and no matter what values I configure it never acknowledges it's hosted on a CDN. Is this just a giant bug in YSlow or is there some kind of specified format that's not explained anywhere that it wants?

  I've asked this on stackoverflow, but it may be better suited for serverfault... I'm having a problem running Apache + Subversion with SSL behind an Nginx proxy and I'm hoping someone might have the answer. I've scoured google for hours looking for the answer to my problem and can't seem to figure it out. What I'm seeing are "502 (Bad Gateway)" errors when trying to MOVE or COPY using subversion; however, checkouts and commits work fine. • Unable to start sql service when TCP/IP is enabled under SSCM - SS Network Configuration

  I get error 10048. and this in event history: The SQL server service terminated with server-specific error. Only one usage of each socket (protcol/network address/port) is normall permitted. Any idea howto fix this ? Port set is the default 1433... If this is turned off, which is default of course, SQL service starts like a champ. I have done this config many times on other servers with no problem.

• How do I extend the virsh/qemu/libvirt Timeout?

  There's a known issue with starting virtual machines with large hard drive images. Apparently, the time-out is 3 seconds, but in reality, it can take up to 15 seconds for a machine to start. I've read several bug reports, and people confirming it's a time-out problem, but I have yet to see a solution. Is there an option I can pass, like: virsh start MyMachine --ignore-timeout Or a config file that needs changed? Thanks!

• Can't get DHCPd to assign IPs to unknown clients

  I'm using Webmin to admin our DHCPd server. But I'm having a hard time getting it to assign IP addresses to unknown clients. The only way I can get it to assign an IP is to make sure a host is added to DHCPd as a host so that it gets a static-lease IP assigned to it. I thought "Allow Unknown Clients" was the key, but it still isn't assigning IPs to unknown clients. I have a pool setup so that the unknown clients should get an IP between 10.20.0.200 - 10.20.0.249. Here is the config file. • faking NAT with a VMware distributed switch across multiple hosts

  Have a VM that will act as the router, and will be connected to both networks (NAT + 'real'). I spread the distributed switch across the hosts, although any VM that is not on the same physical host as the router/dhcpd simply doesn't get an IP. So its obviously my dvSwitch config. Has anyone achieved a NAT solution using a dvSwitch before that they could share?! Thanks.

  I can find plenty of information on how to clear Google Chrome's recent browsing data, in various periods, as well as clearing all browsing data. But I want to clear old browsing data—say for a start, anything over two months old. (I'm trying to save space on a crowded laptop.) Does anyone know any principled way to do this, or shall I just dive into ~/.config/google, start removing likely-looking files, and hope for the best. I run Google Chrome on Debian Linux.

• Can I make TCP/IP session to run less than 60 seconds?

  Our server is overloaded with TCP/IP sessions, we have 1200 - 1500 of them. Most of them are hanging in TIME_OUT state. It turns out that a connection in TIME_OUT state occupies a socket until 60 second time-out is elapsed. The problem is that the server gets unresponsive and many clients are not getting served. I have made a simple test: download an XML file from the server with Internet Explorer 8.0 The download finishes in a fraction of second. But then I see that the TCP/IP connection is hanging in TIME_OUT state for 60 seconds. Is there any way to get rid of TIME_OUT waiting or make it less to free the socket for new connections? I understand why TCP/IP connection enters TIME_OUT state, but I don't understand why Internet Explorer does not close the connection after the XML file download is over. The details. Our server runs web service written in Perl (mod-perl). The service provides weather data to clients. Client is a Flash appication (actually Flash ActiveX control embedded in Windows application). OS: Ubuntu Apache "Keep Alive" option is set to 0

I'm kind of new to linux, but I'm guessing that you could pass the output of a program to a particular script and have it display it in various colours, based on some regular expressions (constructed from some kind of config file perhaps).   I downloaded cygwin and ran ssh-host-config. I'm trying to connect using ssh -l micah myserver it then says micah@myserver's password: I enter the same password I use to log into windows and it says Permission Denied, please try again. After the third try it says: Permission denied (publickey,password,keyboard-interactive). What am I doing wrong? Any ideas? Do I need to generate an ssh key on the client and add it somewhere on the server?

  Hi, I've copied a folder of data from one linux server to another via a tarball. The group ids (GIDs) don't match up on the two servers, so I now have files that look like -rw-rw-r-- 1 tim 1013 88 2008-11-14 10:18 config There is a mixture of group ownerships in the folder, and I want to keep them owned by different groups on the same server, so I can't just use chgrp -R. How do I change all files/folders with GID 1013 to another group, without affecting other files/folders? Thanks
