  I can't open Youtube.com on computer with lubuntu and mint. I see that my flash works properly on other sites. Problem is in for example on youtube (yming.com loading without endless) and vimeo. I tried to use firefox and chromium. I thought that it would be problem with dns (I have dns from DHCP - opendns) so I changed to google dns but it didn't help to solve problem. When I use text browser - Links these site are opening well in text mode. I think that the problem is with flash or java. On other computer with windows connected to the same network these sites are being opened without problem. I am on the point that I don't know what to do next, because I tried to install and uninstall flash several times. I tried Flash-Aid as well.

• What is Rails way to save images?

  I develop on iOS, and I'm switching from a PHP backend to Ruby on Rails. The interchange format is JSON. A quick Google search for 'save images in Rails' has nearly every result talking about saving image data as blobs to the database. I might be mistaken, but I'm under the impression that saving image data in a database is a huge waste of time and space (as opposed to saving a link to the file location ('/img/subcat/4656.png'). In PHP, it's pretty standard to receive the data, generate a filename, then save that file to disk, and then update the database with the image's location on disk. Is this the same for Rails, or is there some built-in ActiveRecord image functionality I'm not aware of?

  Is there an easier way to wait for an element to load ( by independant script/mootools/other ). For example: I am waiting for a google map to load, but I don't want to use its API for checks.   I just moved from Windows to Ubuntu. Software Center in Ubuntu does have texlive2009 package. There is no straightforward installation process from TUG, or from Google search result. I found some installation of Texlive2010 but it does not work. Here are the step: download an texlive2011.iso, 2.3GB and save in local drive mount to a virtual drive install perl tk (ok) "sudo ./install-tl" does not work, "perl ./install-tl" shows pre-installation setting but it does not have the write access to /usr/local/textlive/2011/ Finally, I'm stuck Please guide me with a step by step tutorial or suggest any other solution beside typing in the black screen without knowing what is going on behind the Terminal.

I'm looking for a store to buy a suitable adaptor in locally and I can't find that particular adaptor - but I can see a Belkin F7D4101az. I think this is simply a newer model - but a Google search for "ubuntu belkin f7d4101az" brings no results - not even people trying to get it to work. Nothing. So I didn't want to purchase it without being sure.   I want to create an Android app in which the buttons scroll up or down the screen, kind of like a "wheel", so that when the "last" button is reached, it is simply followed seamlessly by the first one. I would want it to look something like the Price Is Right wheel. (This video at 0:12.) I want the first round of buttons to be presented for the user to tap the screen and make his choice, which would lead to a second round of buttons based on the first choice, and a third round based on the second choice. I've done a number of different google searches, but nothing so far. Any ideas?

• Why did I have to remove resolvconf to get dnsmasq to work again?

  Yesterday I upgraded to Precise and dnsmasq stopped working. That is, DNS queries to localhost were dnsmasq is listening (127.0.0.1) were refused. Removing resolvconf (apt-get remove resolvconf) and rebooting solved the issue (found that suggestion somewhere on Google). /etc/resolv.conf looked fine with and without resolvconf in place. No difference at all. Why would I use resolvconf? Are there any benefits? The Wikipedia article covering resolvconf sucks. Why did resolvconf interfere with dnsmasq? Is this a known issue?

• Images from remote source - is it possible or is really a bad practice?

  I'm building a management system for websites and I had an idea related to image galleries that I'm not sure it's a good approach. Since images might need good deals of space depending on how much images a user uploads an so on, I thought on using cloud services like dropbox, mega and google drive to store images and load then when needed. The obvious problem is that for me this seems a useless solution because it would be slow to download the images from the remote source, making the user experience not so good. Is there any way to save images of a image gallery on remote source without getting the user experience bad because of speed? Or this is really not a good practice?

  Today I came across a wierd issue in a Visual Studio 2008 Code Coverage Analysis. Consider the following method:  private IController GetController<T>(IContext context) where T : IController, new() {     IController controller = new T();     controller.ListeningContext = context;     controller.Plugin = this;     return controller; } This method is called in a unit test as follows (MenuController has an empty constructor): controller = plugin.GetController<MenuController>(null);  After calling this method from a Unit Test, the following code coverage report is generated: As you can see, Code Coverage is only 85%. Looking up the code results in the following: Apparently, the call to the constructor of the generic type is considered only partly covered. WHY? Google didn't help. And MSDN didn't help at all, of course. Anybody who does know?

• Windows 7 professional won't boot after installing ubuntu 11.10 alongside

  I can't boot into windows 7 professional after installing ubuntu 11.10 alongside windows as a dual boot. Windows starts to boot but then it stops during start up and "crashes". I do not have an installation or repair disc and windows is not registered as I built the computer in a class. Please help anybody who is familiar with ubuntu. Optimally I would like to just uninstall ubuntu altogether as GRUB scares me a little and Ubuntu isn't as good as windows 7 and "Bleeped" stuff up. I tried google and nothing that great came up and also I can't find a phone # to contact ubuntu/linux. :-( Specs: OS: Windows 7 professional x64, Ubuntu unity 11.10; CPU: Intel Celeron 2.6 GHz; 2 GB of RAM; Built in september or october 2011. Desktop Homebuilt PC.

  Possible Duplicate: How do I upgrade to the development release (aka. Ubuntu+1)? I was suggested these commands when I searched for it on Google: sudo sed -i 's/precise/quantal/g' /etc/apt/sources.list sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade But, I don't know whether that works or not. So my question is: How to upgrade 12.04 to the 12.10 daily build? How to rollback to 12.04 if the daily build breaks? You might ask me why I want to try something like that... it's probably because I want to check out all the new upgrades that have been done in quantal. Another bonus question: If I select the "precise-proposed" updates in Update Manager, how close will my 12.04 come off to the 12.10? Are these precise proposed updates same as "quantal-proposed"? What are the differences?

• Wrong/corrupted icon in dash

  I am facing a problem with the dash not showing proper/actual icons for certain applications such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Daily Mail. Instead of getting the standard icons for these applications, I get to see a default icon for all the applications. I have added a snapshot to show the problem. The icons that are shown in the launcher once launched or in the /usr/share/applications directory are proper. I have tried rebuilding the icon cache, but that did not help. I have also tried switching to other icons themes. This issue does not appear with Gnome Shell or KDE. I have also tried deleting ~/.local/share/applications/menu-xdg, there was none in the first place. I am using Ubuntu 12.10. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• Are there any third-party components that replicate OneNote?

  I have a client that wants me to add a OneNote-like interface to a desktop .NET application I'm creating for him. We cannot be sure all users will have Microsoft's OneNote installed, so I can't use InterOp or the like. So I am looking for a third-party component that provides the same fluid/freeform interface as OneNote, for capturing images, text, lists, etc. Any suggestions? I'm surprised that not only can I find none with Google, I'm not even finding others like me asking the question. I can't be the only person who thinks this is functionality worth including in our programs.

  I'm trying to implement a script that detects whether two rotated rectangles collide for my game. I used the method explained in the following article for my implementation in Google Dart. 2D Rotated Rectangle Collision I tried to implement this code into my game. Basically from what I understood was that I have two rectangles, these two rectangles can produce four axis (two per rectangle) by subtracting adjacent corner coordinates. Then all the corners from both rectangles need to be projected onto each axis, then multiplying the coordinates of the projection by the axis coordinates (point.x*axis.x+point.y*axis.y) to make a scalar value and checking whether the range of both the rectangle's projections overlap. When all the axis have overlapping projections, there's a collision. First of all, I'm wondering whether my comprehension about this algorithm is correct. If so I'd like to get some pointers in where my implementation (written in Dart, which is very readable for people comfortable with C-syntax) goes wrong. Thanks!

  I am planning to upgrade from 8.10 to 10.04. But I am wondering if there will be data loss during the upgrade? For example: Will the application that I have installed on 8.10 still be there after upgrade? Will the settings of the applications such as the bookmarks for Firefox and for Google Chrome be preserved? Will all the personal files under my home directory be preserved?   A google scholar search turns up numerous papers on testability, including models for computing testability, recommendations for how ones code can be more testable, etc. They all come with the assertion that more testable code is more stable, however I can't find any studies which actually demonstrate this. I tried looking for studies evaluating the effect of testable code vs. quality, however the closest I can find is Improving the Testability of Object Oriented Systems, which discusses the relationship between design flaws and testability. Is testable code is actually more stable? And why, or why not? Please back up your answers with references or evidence to back up your claim.

• Desktop not showing after playing with compiz

  Having successfully installed Ubuntu 11.04 I decided to look into improving look and feel of the unity desktop. I could find no option to introduce any nice effects with the standard install, but a google session suggested Compiz would do the job. I installed this and selected the "Wobbly windows" option and this worked fine. After a while I thought I'd try some of the other available effects (can't remember which but may have been cube desktop) but this resulted in no windows showing at all. I now have just blank wall paper with no icons or menus. There are no error messages and right clicking the desktop produces a small context menu but nothing else. Rebooting brings me back to a blank desktop with just wallpaper. I do not know where to start.
