  • Socket left in TIME_WAIT after file transfer via netcat

    Using Copying by NetCat I am trying to copy files throught network by NetCat. From console it work pretty well. First I run listening netcat on the destination machine and after I run sending on source machine. The problem is it's doen't work from script from the source machine: ssh -f user@$desthost 'nc -l 1234 | tar xvf - /dev/null &' #listening on destination host tar cv /tmp/file | nc $desthost 1234 #sending to destination host I saw that after running port 1234 is still was open and status of the socket was TIME_WAIT. If you know what's the problem, please, help me out. And by the way, after copying how can I validate that the content is identical? Thanks! Addendum: I found one very strange thing, the same implementation with screen on destination work works, but not stable, sometimes it doesn't copy a file. ssh user@$desthost screen -dm -S test 'nc -l 1234 | tar xvf - ' #listening on destination host Maybe there is an issue with timeout?

    I've inherited a project (without a handy handover) that contains reports published to a Reporting Server (2005). MY SSRS knowledge is 4 years stale, so I need your help. I need to edit one of the published reports, is this possible? I also want to peek into the Data Source on the RS, coz that's probably where I can change stuff. I'll add more info as I get a better understanding of what exactly to ask. EDIT: I found a project for some of the reports, opened up in VS2005 BI. Still, how do see where the Data Source gets its data? It brins back 56 fields but I dont know which tables/stored procs/queries are used to get these.

    I have a rdlc file and I try to show it using report viewer control in WPF. My DataSource is called 'OfficeDataSet' and DataSet used in report is called 'Address'.     How do YOU debug a Scala program? I mean YOU as in the person posting the Answer :) Please answer only from personal experience, not from stuff you've heard or read on the Internet. You should not believe everything you read on the Internet, especially tales of complex open-source software configurations that actually work :-) The are many Java tools which claim to support Scala in some way or another, but I have so far struck out in trying to get any one of them to actually let me set a breakpoint in Scala code and step through it. These are big, major open-source IDEs I'm talking about here. The main problem in getting a debugger to work seems to be the "version hell" with fast-changing IDEs, Plug-Ins, JDKs, and the Scala language itself. Hence, the more detailed re-statement of the question is appropriate: What is the exact version number of the IDE, Plug-In, JDK, Scala, and even Operating System, that you are successfully using?   • Set modified date = created date or null on record creation?

    I've been following the convention of adding created and modified columns to most of my database tables. I also have been leaving the modified column as null on record creation and only setting a value on actual modification. The other alternative is to set the modified date to be equal to created date on record creation. I've been doing it the former way but I recent ran into one con which is seriously making me think of switching. I needed to set a database cache dependency to find out if any existing data has been changed or new data added. Instead of being able to do the following: SELECT MAX(modified) FROM customer I have to do this: SELECT GREATEST(MAX(created), MAX(modified)) FROM customer The negative being that it's a more complicated query and slower. Another thing is in file systems I believe they usually use the second convention of setting modified date = created date on creation. What are the pros and cons of the different methods? That is, what are the issues to consider?

    I'm attempting to mimic the function used for creating CRC's in PNG files, I'm using the autodin II polynomial and the source code from: http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/xnu/xnu-1456.1.26/bsd/libkern/crc32.c My tests have all been for the IHDR chunk, so my parameters have been: crc - 0xffffffff and 0 (both have been suggested) buff - the address of the IHDR Chunk's type. length - the IHDR Chunk's length + 4 (the length of the chunk's data + the length of the type) I printed the calculated CRC in binary, which I compared to the actual CRC of the chunk. I can see no similarities (little-big endian, reversed bits, XOR'd, etc). This is the data for the IHDR chunk (hexadecimal format): length(big endian): d0 00 00 00 (13) type: 49 48 44 52 data: 00 00 01 77 00 00 01 68 08 06 00 00 00 existing CRC: b0 bb 40 ac If anyone can tell me why my calculations are off, or give me a CRC32 function that will work I would greatly appreciate it.     I have the 2 cubic structures that are my tracks and are scrolling basically to give effect of movement on object. In my OnBecameInvisible() method, I have changed their Tiling using mainTextureScale void OnBecameInvisible() { renderer.material.mainTextureScale = new Vector2(1, numberOfLanes); this.transform.position = new Vector3(this.transform.position.x, this.transform.position.y, 20.0f); } The tiling works fine. But the alternative tracks have their Tiling set to 0 which is giving an undesirable effect. Requirement: I want to be able to set the Tiling of every track that is visible on the screen. How do I do it?

    In a comment in response to a shell question, user tinkertim said that it was easy to hack ksh to use the bash autocompletion library. I would like nothing better than to use bash autocompletion with AT&T ksh93. How can this be done? ksh93 has a new release several times a year, so I am looking for a solution that does not involve modifying the source code. ksh93 can link new C modules dynamically and also is highly programmable (I run a ksh function at every keystroke), so modifying the source should not really be necessary. Note: I am not talking about filename autocompletion, which is easy to do in ksh. I'm talking about all the other yummy autocompletion stuff that bash does, like autocompletion options for nmh commands or autocompleting Mercurial commmands. Stuff like that.

  • Is doing AB Tests using site redirection a bad practice?

    I'm developing hotels websites here in Brazil. When the site is done, we do an AB test with the old version to measure conversion and show to the hotel owner how good our site is. Due to the fact that I cannot put the old site inside the new one as a subresource (newone.com/old), currently I'm doing those AB test as follows: 1) I create 2 Google Analytics accounts, one for each site (old and new); 2) I put the GA tags in the old website pages (changing its possibly existent GA ID to the just created one); 3) I put an Javascript code that redirects the user to the old website (in a different URL and different domain) with 50% of probability. So I compare all the metrics, events and goals between those two GA accounts. How bad is it? How Google can interpretate the fact of being, sometimes redirected, sometimes don't? The experiment usually runs for 2 weeks. Is there any other alternative for doing this in a better way?

  • Using microsoft report viewer with objects

    Ive got some nested objects that I am trying to generate reports for. A BackupClient contains BackupVersions and BackupVersions contain BackupFiles. I passed in the list of BackupClients - and the report displays the client name, etc.... but to display the versions - It says I have to have a Binding Source for BackupVersions. If I pull all of the versions out of the clients and put them in a different BindingSource, then my data is no longer together - how is the report viewer going to list the versions for client X - if I just have a binding source with ALL clients versions in it?

I have the following in my project folder: these four dirs should each be on their own line: /source /sample_applications /images /videos Right now the repo just includes the /source directory...which is code only. It is on my local computer. I am thinking of adding it to git hub. My question is: should I add the sample apps, the images and the videos to the repo? Is that something that people normally do and that other people want people to do? Can git even handle videos(noob here)?

  • Can I change the datsource of report model at runtime

    I've some adhoc reports developed on some report models which are published on Report Server (we're using SSRS 2008). Everything is running well. Now in our production environment we've near about forty (40) customers who have their own database (each have the same table structures and other database objects). Now the challenge is whenever a customer will log into the report server using windows authentication and trying to view those reports we need to get the SQL data from the proper database only. Reports are designed using the report model and each model has a valid data source which is connected to particular database. We can create forty separate data sources each will be connected to specific database. My question is, is there any way through which we can change the report model data source name dynamically or during runtime based on the customer name so that during execution of the report, SSRS would fetch the data from the correct database but not from any other database. Please help me.

    Hi All, I want to write a Scala script to recursively process all files in a directory. For each file I'd like to see if there are any cases where a string occurs at line X and line X - 2. If a case like that occurs I'd like to stop processing that file, and add that filename to a map of filenames to occurrence counts.   • A good F# codebase to learn from

    Hi all, I've been teaching myself F# for a while now. I've read Programming F# by Chris Smith (great book) and I've written a few small scripts for getting the job done here and there. But IMO the best way to learn a new programming language—and more importantly, the idioms that come with it—is to read a good open source codebase written in that language. Naturally, writing code in that language is crucial, but in the beginning, you're basically struggling with your own ignorance about how things should be done. You could perform certain tasks one way or the other, but it takes experience to realize the flaws and virtues of each. Even after you've gotten a firm grasp of how things work, reading the code of people who have an even firmer one helps a great deal. Most would agree that the most insightful parts of any learn-a-programming-language book are the code examples, and reading a well-written open source codebase is the next level of that. So are there any out there for F#?

  • Using Remote Web Page to Initialize iPhone App

    My iPhone app relies on a vendor's XML feed to provide data. But that feed is not locked down. The vendor could change the format of the XML at any time, although so far they've promised not to. Since I might want to tell my app to use a different URL for its data source, I'd like to set up a single "Command Central" Web page, on my own server, to direct the app to the correct data source. In other words, each time my app starts, in the background and unseen by the user, it would visit "http://www.myserver.com/iphoneapp_data_sources.xml" to retrieve the URL for retrieving data from my vendor. That way, if my vendor suddenly changes the exact URL or the XML feed that the app needs, I can update that Web page and ensure that all installations of the app are using the correct XML feed. Does anyone have any advice or examples showing this kind of approach? It seems as if this must be a common problem, but so far I haven't found a well-established design pattern that fits it.

    I have two WIN32 DLL projects in the solution, main.dll should call a function in mgn.dll. mgn.dll has mgn.h header file: #ifdef MGN_EXPORTS #define MGN_API __declspec(dllexport) #else #define MGN_API __declspec(dllimport) #endif extern "C" bool MGN_API AttachMGN(void); and mgn.cpp source file: #include "stdafx.h" #include "mgn.h" MGN_API bool AttachMGN(void) { ... } main.dll calls AttachMGN function from one of the source file: #include "stdafx.h" #include "..\mgn\mgn.h" bool CreateClient() { return ::AttachMGN(); } mgn.dll compiles successfully. main.dll doesn't show any errors in VS text editor, I can navigate using "Go To Definition" function. However during build I get the error: error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _imp_AttachMGN referenced in function "bool __cdecl CreateClient(void)" (?CreateClient@@AW4XZ) Both DLLs compile into the same folder. DependencyWalker shows the function AttachMGN as exported. Main project has a dependency set to Mgn project, if that matters. I believe that I simply have overlooked something.... Thanks in advance.

  • Trouble with FGLRX in quantal x86_64

    it's the third time i have to reinstall quantal because the fglrx is making me sick. I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 (the code ir RS880).When i install Ati Driver, i don't have any problems, but when i reboot, the resolution is minimal and the launcher isn't visible, i can only use the things that are in desktop and use the terminal using CTRL+ALT+T. i've tried to make specific distribution page, downloading the legacy driver from AMD, and another thing: when i had 12.04 jockey told me that i could install some drivers, i had trouble, but that doesn't matter. now, the option to install drivers doesn't tell me about any drivers, i mean, its blank. At the moment i'm using the free drivers (Gallium 0.4 on AMD RS880M. is there any alternative ? or i'll have to live with the free drivers ? Thanks a lot ! I KNOW I HAVE TO INSTALL LEGACY DRIVERS, I'VE INSTALLED THEM, THEY DON'T WORK.

    I have 10+ SQL Server databases, from where I would use one table from each database to display information using the application that I am creating. For instance, DB1, DB2....DB10. NewDB (Account, Country, Costcenter....etc.). I have started with creating a new database which would contain all the information from all those 10+ databases. However, I am confused in many cases. First of all what process should I follow? Shall I create a table (in new database) with the same structure as the actual data source and insert data from actual data source to new database? Should I be doing this on the DBMS? If so, is it some scripting? (hint expected since very new to this) I am creating a report generation application which has 10+ data sources. I need some hint which way should I proceed? Thanks for advice/help in advance.

  • Safari won't request video or audio from HTML 5 media elements?

    So far what I've been developing has worked in Chrome and, using fallbacks, IE8. What I don't get is this: Safari just won't start loading <video> or <audio> content. Safari 6 won't load, and neither will iOS 5's Safari: My code calls .load() on the elements at the appropriate time (at least for Chrome), so what gives? Here is the video declaration: <video width="800" height="600" class="faces" id="facesVideo"> <source src="video/grid.mp4" type="video/mp4" /> <source src="video/grid.ogv" type="video/ogg" /> </video> The audio is declared dynamically, but has the same problem. Do I need to wait for some DOM event that Chrome doesn't need before calling .load()? What does it take to get Safari to start buffering until the elements can fire canplaythrough?
