• Quickest way to make a web app for iPhone

  I am looking to make a iPhone app for a simple anonymous discussion website I launched this week (blurba.com). I would like it to be native, available for free download in the app store. I am looking for the fastest, easiest way to do this. I have been looking at these options. 1. Build a native app in Obj-C 2. Build with JQ touch, use PhoneGap to make it native I am more than open to other ideas (maybe frameworks I don't know about, to make this easier?) NEEDS: Ajax requests via GET and POST. • Eclipse JDT API documentation, preferrably CHM format

  I am going to need to do some development with Eclipse JDT while on holiday. I will be off-line for the most of the time and therefore I will not be able to access the Eclipse JDT API documentation on the Web. I can't find a link to download the documentation in ZIP or PDF or, best of all, CHM format. Does anyone have a copy? Could you please provide a download link to it? Do you think I should use HTTRack to simply mirror the above-mentioned website? I would really rather not. CHM is rather convenient for exploring any kind of API documentation. Anyone differs in opinion?

• Trouble on setting SSL certificates for Virtual Hosts using Apache\Phusion Passenger in localhost

  I am using Ruby on Rails 3 and I would like to make to work HTTPS connections on localhost. I am using: Apache v2 + Phusion Passenger Mac OS + Snow Leopard v10.6.6 My Ruby on Rails installation use the Typhoeus gem (it is possible to use the Ruby net\http library but the result doesn't change) to make HTTP requests over HTTPS. I created self-signed ca.key, pjtname.crt and pjtname.key as detailed on the Apple website.   I am converting a website from ISO to UTF-8, so I need to convert the Mysql database too. On internet, I read various solutions, I don't know wich one to choose. Do I really need to convert my varchar columns to binary, then to utf8 like that : ALTER TABLE t MODIFY col BINARY(150); ALTER TABLE t MODIFY col CHAR(150) CHARACTER SET utf8; This is long to do that for each column, of each table, of each database. I have 10 database, wich 20 tables each, wich around 2 - 3 varchar colums (2 queries each column), this gives me around 1000 queries to write ! How come ? How to do ?

But then, lately I found this phpmailer, which is specially design to send email. Q1: Should I change to this phpmailer? Q2: What are the advantages of using phpmailer? Q3: I found other products on phpmailer website, i.e phpmailer FE, ML etc. What are those? Which one you guys is using? Q4: Have anyone tried sending blast email to 2000+ users with phpmailer? • Avoiding the Controller with Routing Rules in ASP.NET MVC

  I've created a website with ASP.NET MVC. I have a number of static pages that I am currently serving through a single controller called Home. This creates some rather ugly URLs. example.com/Home/About example.com/Home/ContactUs example.com/Home/Features You get the idea. I'd rather not have to create a controller for each one of these as the actions simply call the View with no model being passed in. Is there a way to write a routing rule that will remove the controller from the URL? I'd like it to look like: example.com/About example.com/ContactUs example.com/Features If not, how is this situation normally handled? I imagine I'm not the first person to run in to this.

  I'm having trouble determining if it's possible, based on the amount of access I have to my Godaddy server, to install XPDF. Could someone shed some light on this? Here's the link to XPDF. And here is info about the GoDaddy server. My goal is to convert PDF's to Plain Text automatically using a PHP script on the server. So far, other solutions like code posted in the comments of the PHP website have been insufficient. All research seems to point to XPDF.

• WCF - calling back to client (duplex ?)

  Hi, I have a problem with what solution to choose.. I have a server running having a Service running that can receive orders from a website. To this server several client (remote computers) are connected somehow. I would really like to use WCF for all comunication, but not sure it's possible. I dont wanna configure all client firewall settings in their routers, so the clients would have to connect to the server. But when an order is recieved on the server, it should be transferred to a specific client. One solution could be to have the Client connect using a duplex binding, but it will have to somehow keep the connection alive in order to be able to received data from server... Is this a good way to do this ?? Normally the connection times out and probably for a good reason... Anyone have insight to this problem. Thx alot for any advise :-) Best Regards Søren Müller

  On a MVC 2 website what I want to do is get a list of products / CategoryId. From that list, create a list of distinct CategoryId's. Then randomly pick a categoryId from the second list and use it to get all the products for that categoryId. I then want to store that CategoryId so that I don't display those products on the next run. I don't need any code examples to start. What I'm wondering is that I think I would put this code in a class in my model (Dll) and store the list of displayed CategoryId's in session. Is this a good solution or should I go another way? • What is the correct way to import and export out of Excel to SQL Server and back?

  Looking for the correct way and control to import and export of out of Microsoft Excel programmatically. I am willing to get a 3rd party control that supports this functionality, or I can create it myself, but looking to get this prioject done fast. The Datasource will be offline. Although when it is online for the upload/download if there is a control that would merge them, that would work also. But best is to remain offline, don't need the support headache. Security is also an issue. SSIS is not available on the shared database server. The website that hosts the asp.net application is not on the same machine as the sql server. Thank you.

  I am currently evaluating Google Chrome Frame and so far i'm happy with it, but what i'd like to do is selectively use it for certain sections of my website. Some sections require ActiveX so need to be viewed in native IE, whereas others benefit greatly, and may end up requiring, Chrome Frame. I've currently got the following configured in my apache httpd.conf file - <IfModule mod_setenvif.c> <IfModule mod_headers.c> BrowserMatch chromeframe gcf Header append X-UA-Compatible "chrome=1" env=gcf </IfModule> </IfModule> This causes anything coming in via Apache to get the chrome frame stuff added to the headers. What I need is to make this only happen when a user visits particular URL's / particular pages, which i'm currently controlling via RewriteRules. Could anybody explain how I would go about this, as my understanding of the Apache config files isn't brilliant. Thanks.

  Hi, this is a very newbie question, sorry! I need to create an aspx website based con C# and am calling some webservices based on some DLL's I already have. Beforem purchasing Visual Studio, I decided to try Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express (is this ok?) creating a Web Application ASP.NET based on Visual C#. I created the form to enter the data which is submitted when clicking the process button. At this point I need to call stuff from the DLL, which I have added in the Solution Explorer via Add Reference, selecting the DLL from the COM list. But whenever I run the project, I always get the error "the type or namespace xxx cannot be found - maybe a using directive or assembler directive is missing" when trying to create the object. What is my stupid mistake? Thanks!

  We're about to start developing software for the Palm, using WebOS. Though an emulator is available for testing, I always feel more confident seeing it run on a physical device as well. I can't find anywhere on Palm's website that tells me whether I can just buy an off-the-shelf Palm Pre and run my app on it, or if I have to buy one with a particular type of contract/ have it unlocked in some way/ whatever. Does anyone know? Have you done this? (Sorry this is barely programming-related, but I couldn't think where else to ask. I'm sure someone has done this and can give me a quick yay or nay. Thanks.) • Debugging in Maven?

  Is it possible to launch a debugger such as jdb from maven? I have a pom.xml file that compiles the project successfully. However, the program hangs somewhere and I would really like to launch jdb or an equivalent debugger to see what's happening. I compile using mvn compile and launch using: mvn exec:java -Dexec.mainClass="com.mycompany.app.App" I was expecting something like: mvn exec:jdb -Dexec.mainClass="com.mycompany.app.App" to launch the debugger but, as usual, my expectations are incongruent with maven's philosophy. Also, I couldn't find any documentation (on Maven's website or google) to describe how debugging works. I suspect that I have to use some plugin.

• What is the easiest way to get an embedded upload progress bar using Ruby/Sinatra/Haml/Passenger/ngi

  I have a website where people can upload 30+mb of data in a single block, and I want to be able to show them the progress of their upload without causing the web page to become unresponsive, similar to how flash uploads work in gmail. There's this question here, but I don't know if that progress bar is embedded in the page or if it's using the browser's progress bar. I'm also a bit of a web newb, so I'm not sure if it's the 'easiest'. I asked the swfupload guys how to do this here, and the answer I got is 'this tool requires some knowledge to use it' without giving me much help in figuring out where to get started. I also asked this question on ServerFault, and got no response, so maybe that was the wrong place to ask. I'm all for learning new things and so forth, but there are a lot of potential pathways to take here. Where should I start, and what do I need to know to make everything work with sinatra, haml, ruby, passenger, and nginx? Thanks!

Now, one portion of the sprite needs to be repeated vertically. • PHP Include Windows XP Notepad++ Editor - Nav Include Not Working - Nav Disappears

  I am creating a website, and have a tabbed horizontal menu. In order to cut back on the number of files I have to edit when I have to make changes to the menu I want to put the navigation in a separate file that I can call using a PHP include statement. When I do this, however, the nav disappears entirely from the page. The rest of the content remains, and there are no error messages. I have been looking for answers for this for weeks, and have tried every version of the PHP include statement that I could find. None of them worked. This was the last attempt. I have the file "nav.php" in a folder named "includes" in a main dir called "testsite" I use Windows XP, use NotePad++ as my text editor, and have been testing in Firefox. I can't find an answer anywhere - any help would be appreciated. Lorianna
