• How to export an image from Photoshop to PDF while preserving the exact size?

  There used to be a PDF export option in Photoshop, but it's gone in CS4. What replaced it is Bridge, however no matter what I do, Bridge ends up resizing my image. The physical dimensions (cm/inches) in the final PDF are not what they are in Photoshop. Any tips on exporting an image without messing up its size? (Clarification: I want the final PDF to contain a page of the size I specify, with a white background, and my image positioned somewhere on this page such that the image width/height in cm is exactly the same in the PDF as it was in Photoshop.)

• What are the new features in Java 7

  What is the most official Java 7 feature list? I find very little useful information regarding this on the official JDK 7 site. Apart from that I can only find blogs with people summarizing "some" of the new features. However, some of these blog entries are old and some of them claim that these features "may or may not" be included in Java 7. Can anyone provide a list of features that will definitely be included in Java 7? I would also very much like to know the estimated release date. Will it be backwards compatible with my existing Java EE 6 stuff. That is, will I be able to switch seamlessly using EJBs, JPA2, Glassfish 3 and so on. The feature I am mostly interested in is Closures, so I'll happily switch to Java 7 as soon as a stable release comes out. Thanks!

  Does JsonIgnore not work when a property has data? My RavenDB document has data. Am I missing something?

  I am writing an application that I need to run at incredibly low speeds. The application creates and destroys memory in creative ways throughout its run, and it works just fine. I am wondering what compiler optimizations occur so I can try to build to that. One trick off hand is that the CLR handles arrays much faster than lists, so if you need to handle a ton of elements in a List, you may be better off calling ToArray() and handling it rather than calling ElementAt() again and again. I am wondering if there is any sort of comprehensive list for this kind of thing, or maybe the SO community can create one :-)

  I'm using Jumi to echo php code and then showing that in a Joomla Article, and everythings working fine. Now I want to do this: The output is basically a list from a database like this: Name Price Type A 1 T1 B 2 T2 In this list I want to include links to only show items of the same type, so "T1" would like to a page only showing things of type T1. So I thought I would do this by making a new page that takes a type and then get all the items of that type from the database. Without Joomla this wouldv'e been a piece of cake, with Joomla I'm not quite sure where to begin. How should the a href=... tags in the html code printed by my php script look? Is my basic structure still correct, and if so, how do I make Joomla open the new page in the normal frame and not replace the whole Joomla page. some kind of target-frame attribute?

• Modx: How to create a contact form with a dropdown of offices to cc the email to?

  In the contact us template I want to have a dropdown with the list of offices (All offices articles are places under the same parent node, so getting the list should be fairly easy). I need a way to add the office email address (Template variable from the Office article) to the email generated by Modx's eForm. I don't want the email address to be visible in the contact us form, but a snippet fetching the article Template variable email address. I also want a link from each offices article to the contact us form with the office preselected in the dropdown. How should I implement this?

  I have looked for some explanation on the exact usages for the set of standards known as OpenSocial. I need some clarification if I can use OpenSocial like the following. I would like to create one library used to community with an OpenSocial api for use in my website that will not 'behave' like an application described by common sites like facebook and myspace. I'm not making a myspace of facebook application, I'm creating my own website and I want users to be able to find friends. I would like to allow users to store usernames and passwords for various OpenSocial-supported social networks. I would also like to use the api to sync events from my web site to their specified social network. I would also like to allow my users to view a list of friends and invite them. Is it possible to create one library that supports OpenSocial and simple "point" to and social network that supports it to get a list of friends and etc?

• Java 7 API design best practice - return Array or return Collection

  I know this question has be asked before generic comes out. Array does win out a bit given Array enforces the return type, it's more type-safe. But now, with latest JDK 7, every time when I design this type of APIs: public String[] getElements(String type) vs public List<String> getElements(String type) I am always struggling to think of some good reasons to return A Collection over An Array or another way around. What's the best practice when it comes to the case of choosing String[] or List as the API's return type? Or it's courses for horses. I don't have a special case in my mind, I am more looking for a generic pros/cons comparison.

• Pattern or recommneded refactoring for method

  I've written a method that looks like this: public TimeSlotList processTimeSlots (DateTime startDT, DateTime endDT, string bookingType, IList<Booking> normalBookings, GCalBookings GCalBookings, List<DateTime> otherApiBookings) { { ..... common process code ...... while (utcTimeSlotStart < endDT) { if (bookingType == "x") { //process normal bookings using IList<Booking> normalBookings } else if (bookingType == "y") { //process google call bookings using GCalBookings GCalBookings } else if (bookingType == "z" { //process other apibookings using List<DateTime> otherApiBookings } } } So I'm calling this from 3 different places, each time passing a different booking type, and each case passing the bookings I'm interested in processing, as well as 2 empty objects that aren't used for this booking type. I'm not able to get bookings all into the same datatype, which would make this easier and each booking type needs to be processed differently, so I'm not sure how I can improve this. Any ideas?

  I have looked all over the web and I can not find the information I am looking for and I was hoping that someone could give me a hand. Specifically, I am looking for a comprehensive list of what events occur in the page and control life cycles and what is "available" in each event. Like when can I get a dropdownlists selected value, when can i databind, when can I get at values in view state and what not. Can anyone point me to a comprehensive list for both page and control life cycles? Or even provide that information for me? Thanks in advance.

  I have jQuery that drops a menu down when its parent is clicked on, and dismisses it when they hover away from the menu. I am wanting to change the behavior so that it only dismisses if they click somewhere else on the page, or a different menu. • Using microsoft report viewer with objects

  Ive got some nested objects that I am trying to generate reports for. A BackupClient contains BackupVersions and BackupVersions contain BackupFiles. I passed in the list of BackupClients - and the report displays the client name, etc.... but to display the versions - It says I have to have a Binding Source for BackupVersions. If I pull all of the versions out of the clients and put them in a different BindingSource, then my data is no longer together - how is the report viewer going to list the versions for client X - if I just have a binding source with ALL clients versions in it?

  I am developing a Windows Phone app where users can update a list. Each update, delete, add etc need to be stored in a database that sits behind a web service. As well as ensuring all the operations made on the phone end up in the cloud, I need to make sure the app is really responsive and the user doesn’t feel any lag time whatsoever. What’s the best design to use here? Each check box change, each text box edit fires a new thread to contact the web service? Locally store a list of things that need to be updated then send to the server in batch every so often (what about the back button)? Am I missing another even easier implementation?   Hi, I'd like to implement a sort of Addressbook/Contactbook using a Datagrid (or a List) and the MVVM pattern. Something like in Outlook/Thunderbird, where you've a list of your contacts displayed with a 2-3 main fields (name surname for example), and when you double-click a contact, then you get a new modal box that displays all the details of this specific contact. Since a couple of weeks/months, I'm reading a lot of stuff about MVVM pattern on the net, but somehow, I get confused. Until now, I could find any sample like this. (perhaps, I searched wrong?) How could I organize such an application? Thx in advance for your help.

  This one seems to be a simple problem, but I can't make it work in a single select or nested select. Retrieve the authors and (if any) advisers of a paper (article) into one row. I order to explain the problem, here are the two data tables (pseudo) papers (id, title, c_year) persons (id, firstname, lastname) plus a link table w/one extra attribute (pseudo): paper_person_roles( paper_id person_id act_role ENUM ('AUTHOR', 'ADVISER') ) This is basically a list of written papers (table: papers) and a list of staff and/or students (table: persons) An article my have (1,N) authors. An article may have (0,N) advisers. A person can be in 'AUTHOR' or 'ADVISER' role (but not at the same time). The application eventually puts out table rows containing the following entries: TH: || Paper_ID | Author(s) | Title | Adviser(s) | TD: || 21334 |John Doe, Jeff Tucker|Why the moon looks yellow|Brown, Rayleigh| ... My first approach was like: select/extract a full list of articles into the application, eg.SELECT q.id, q.title FROM papers AS q ORDER BY q.c_year and save the results of the query into an array (in the application). After this step, loop over the array of the returned information and retrieve authors and advisers (if any), via prepared statement (? is the paper's id) from the link table like:APPLICATION_LOOP(paper_ids in array) SELECT p.lastname, p.firstname, r.act_role FROM persons AS p, paper_person_roles AS r WHERE p.id=r.person_id AND r.paper_id = ? # The application does further processing from here (pseudo): foreach record from resulting records if record.act_role eq 'AUTHOR' then join to author_column if record.act_role eq 'ADVISER' then join to avdiser_column end print id, author_column, title, adviser_column APPLICATION_LOOP This works so far and gives the desired output. Would it make sense to put the computation back into the DB? I'm not very proficient in nontrivial SQL and can't find a solution with a single (combined or nested) select call. I tried sth. like SELECT q.title (CONCAT_WS(' ', (SELECT p.firstname, p.lastname AS aunames FROM persons AS p, paper_person_roles AS r WHERE q.id=r.paper_id AND r.act_role='AUTHOR') ) ) AS aulist FROM papers AS q, persons AS p, paper_person_roles AS r in several variations, but no luck ... • designing database tables using JDBC

  I am creating a users table using JDBC and mysql, each user has a permissions list that comprises Integer values, I am wondering if I should use an array for storing these values and then have only 1 record for this user in the table, or simply create a new table that comprises 2 columns: user ID and permissions, and then have multiple records for each user that specify the user name in one columns and one permission value in the second column, the second option seems to be redundant since a permission value is a simple object that isn't associated with any other objects (like a student and courses list for example, because the course is associated with many other objects, like grade, teacher, etc, so in this case it is natural to have multiple records), but the first one seems to be a bit unnatural to me, so if someone has experience with these things and direct me? thanks

• Recovered video files won't play

  I have an SD card with pictures and video which malfunctioned. I was able to recover the files with Photorec. The pictures are OK, but wen I try to open the vide files (*.mov extension) in get the following errors when I try to open them in the following programs Windows Media player: "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file" Quicktime: "Error -2048: Couldn't open the file because it is not a file that QuickTime understands" VLC: it shows the first frame of the video and the sound is just white noise The filesizes look correct so I presume the data is still in there. Is there any way to fix these recovered video files?

  Hi Everyone, At my site - jasondaydesign.com. I'm using easylistsplitter.js. I designed it this way, because I actually wanted a masonry.js style layout but I couldn't find a way to filter divs. So I made the switch to lists, and found a plugin that allowed me to have a masonry style layout. Unfortunately, I have tried several list filters including: filterprojects.js and a netuts tutorial on a filterable portfolio. Unfortunately, both work, but only on the first column. I can't seem to figure out a way to have a filter plugin work on all list items that have been split by easylistsplitter.js Thoughts?

• Can't unlock locked screen, in Ubuntu 12

  After locking the screen (with a keystroke bound to xlock -nice 8 -mode blank), I can unlock the screen as expected, but only within a few minutes. After being locked overnight, when I hit a key (even Ctrl+Alt combos), the screen stays black with just a brief white flash across the middle of both monitors. The workaround is to ssh in from another host and restart X. Some months ago, this happened every few weeks. By now it happens almost every morning. How do I even start to diagnose this? What might I look for in log files? (The intermittency is particularly troubling.) Failing that, is there an alternative to xlock aka xlockmore? Hardware: 3-year-old HP minitower, GEForce 9800 GT, two Asus LCD monitors. Software: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS. Window manager awesome-wm. NVidia driver 304.88. XLock version xlockmore-5.31.

  Hi, all my projects and their versions are defined in a properties file like this: ProjectNameA=0.0.1 ProjectNameB=1.4.2 I'd like to iterate over all projects and use there names and versions in an ant script. Right now, I read the entire properties file in help of the property task. Then I iterate over a given list in a for loop like this: <for list="ProjectNameA,ProjectNameB" param="project"> <sequential> <echo message="@{project} has version ${@{project}}" /> </sequential> </for> How can I avoid the duplication of the project names in the for loop. So basically iterate over each line and extract the name and the version of a project. Thanks.

• Send multidimensional array to php with jQuery

  hy, i have a little, big problem here :) after i upload some images i get a list with all the images. I have some jQuery function for rotate, duplicate, delete, shuffle images! when i select a image and hit delete i send a post to php with the alt="" value of the image,i identify the picture and edit.
