Hovering a div shows hidden div - jquery to prototype conversion

I may get killed for this but I have been trying for a few days using Prototype to show a hidden div when hovering over another div. I have this working fine in jquery but I could use some help porting it over to prototype. jQuery .die isnt killing an attached event?

Hi I've just started experimenting with .live and .die and having some great results but one thing isn't working. I've been tinkering with firebugs console to try out my written code live to see if i can figure out the reason why .die isn't killing off an attached event. But sometimes I want to disable this behaviour and also make the link unclickable so I do the following //unbind ajax form creation when we click on a link, then disable its semantic behaviour $('a[href$=edit]').die("click").click( function(){ return false; } ); which works but if then try to remove this and restore that ajax goodness with the code below it doesn't work, Instead the link remains unclickable. I cant figure out why? optimized search using ajax and keypress

i have the following code as i want to search a database as a user is typing into a textbox. This code below works fine but it seems a little inefficient as if a user is typing really fast, i am potentially doing many more searches than necessary. Manipulating original elements with qTip

I have a bunch of divs on my page and each of them has only the class attribute. In the divs there are some spans, which are set up to display a tooltip with the help of qTip. I want to build a function into all of them which manipulates 'stage' in the same way, so rather than defining it many times I thought I'd build it into the parent class. I moved 'stage' from the private sections of all of the derived classes into the protected section of CommandPath, and added the function as follows: class CommandPath { protected: int stage; public: virtual CommandResponse handleCommand(std::string) = 0; virtual CommandResponse execute() = 0; std::string confirmCommand(std::string, int, int, std::string, std::string); virtual ~CommandPath() {} }; class GetTimeCommandPath : public CommandPath { public: GetTimeCommandPath() : stage(0) {} CommandResponse handleCommand(std::string); CommandResponse execute(); }; Now my compiler tells me for the constructor lines that none of the derived classes have a member 'stage'. I was under the impression that protected members are visible to derived classes? The constructor is the same in all classes, so I suppose I could move it to the parent class, but I'm more concerned about finding out why the derived classes aren't able to access the variable. Also, since previously I've only used the parent class for pure virtual functions, I wanted to confirm that this is the way to go about adding a function to be inherited by all derived classes.

Google and my failing memory are both giving me hints that it does, but every attempt is coming up dry. class Y { var y = 0 } var m = new Y() m.y_(3) error: value y_ is not a member of Y Please tell me I am doing something wrong. (Also: please tell me what it is I am doing wrong.) EDIT The thing I am not doing wrong, or at least not the only thing I am doing wrong, is the way I am invoking the setter. The following things also fail, all with the same error message: m.y_ // should be a function valued expression m.y_ = (3) // suggested by Google and by Mchl f(m.y_) // where f takes Int => Unit as an argument f(m.y) // complains that I am passing in Int not a function I am doing this all through SimplyScala, because I'm too lazy and impatient to set up Scala on my tiny home machine. Hope it isn't that... And the winner is ... Fabian, who pointed out that I can't have a space between the _ and the =. I thought out why this should be and then it occurred to me: The name of the setter for y is not y_, it is y_= ! Strange compiler complaint when using similar code

For a project, I have to ask the user for a file name, and I'm reading it in character by character using getchar. From the main, I call the function char *coursename= introPrint(); //start off to print the usage directions and get the first bit of input. That function is defined as char *introPrint(){ int size= 20; int c; int length=0; char buffer[size]; //instructions printout, cut for brevity //get coursename from user and return it while ( (c=getchar()) != EOF && (c != '\n') ){ buffer[length++]= c; if (length==size-1) break; } buffer[length]=0; return buffer; } This is basically identical code I wrote to ask the user for input, replace the character echo with asterisks, then print out the results. Here, though, I'm getting a function returns address of local variable warning for the return statement. So why am I getting no warnings from the other program, but trigger one for this code?

Optimizing a "set in a string list" to a "set as a matrix" operation

I have a set of strings which contain space-separated elements. I want to build a matrix which will tell me which elements were part of which strings. No dice there either, as it seems to keep on running infinitely.

pointer, malloc and char in C

im trying to copy a const char array to some place in the memory and point to it . lets say im defining this var under the main prog : char *p = NULL; and sending it to a function with a string : myFunc(&p, "Hello"); now i want that at the end of this function the pointer will point to the letter H but if i puts() it, it will print Hello . here is what i tried to do : void myFunc(char** ptr , const char strng[] ) { *ptr=(char *) malloc(sizeof(strng)); char * tmp=*ptr; int i=0; while (1) { *ptr[i]=strng[i]; if (strng[i]=='\0') break; i++; } *ptr=tmp; } i know its a rubbish now, but i would like to understand how to do it right, my idea was to allocate the needed memory, copy a char and move forward with the pointer, etc.. also i tried to make the ptr argument byreferenec (like &ptr) but with no success due to a problem with the lvalue and rvalue . the only thing is changeable for me is the function, and i would like not to use strings, but chars as this is and exercise . thanks for any help in advance.

Animate absolutely positioned div, but stop if a condition is true?

Hello all, I have a div which I place at the top right-hand corner of a website, absolutely positioned at top: 0px and right : 0px. I want to use jquery's animate function to animate the div left or right a certain amount when a button is clicked, but stop the animation if at anytime, the div's offset to the left or right is less than a certain number. I want to do this to accomodate users who click the left or right buttons more than once, so that the div does not fly out of sight. How does one accomplish this? Getting Response From Jquery JSON

I'm having trouble getting a response from my php jquery / json / ajax. I keep combining all these different tutorials together but I still can't seem to pull it all together since no one tutorial follow what I'm trying to do. Right now I'm trying to pass two arrays (since there's no easy way to pass associative arrays) to my jquery ajax function and just alert it out. Here's my code: PHP $names = array('john doe', 'jane doe'); $ids = array('123', '223'); $data['names'] = $names; $data['ids'] = $ids; echo json_encode($data); Jquery function getList(){ $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: 'test.php', data: "", complete: function(data){ var test = jQuery.parseJSON(data); alert(test.names[0]); alert("here"); } }, "json"); } getList(); In my html file all I'm really calling is my javascript file for debugging purposes. I know i'm returning an object but I'm getting an error with null values in my names section, and i'm not sure why. What am I missing? My PHP file returns {"names":["john doe","jane doe"],"ids":["123","223"]} It seems to be just ending here Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property '0' of undefined so my sub0 is killing me.

Best suited tool to document message processing done in C written program

I am relatively new to UML and it's seems to be very vast I have a small program which basically receives messages on socket and then depending upon message ID embedded as first byte of message it processes the buffer. There are around 5 different message ID which it processes and communicates on another socket and has around 8 major functions. So program in short is like this. I am not pasting entire .c file or main function but just giving some bits and pieces of it so that to get idea of program flow. int main(int argc, char** argv) { register_shared_mem(); listen(); while(get_next_message(buffer)) { switch((msg)(buffer)->id) { case TYPE1: process1(); answer(); ..... } } } I want to document this is pictorial way like for Message type 1 it calls this function which calls another and which calls another. how can i replace an image (inside a div) through jquery and ajax.

However, if I pass it it query with a join clause my page just hangs and not error is return. Hi, I don't understand why I'm not getting the message as "username already exits" if type the username which is already in database. If the username in a server, then it is returning the value as "1" otherwise empty, and despite of successfully getting the value from the server based on username is present or not, and assigning the value to variable "x", I'm unable to get message when I pass already exist username. Why would the first empty() ommit the __isset? I get this: pass get meta bool(true) || pass isset meta pass get meta bool(false) I would expected identical results or another pass at the __isset, but not a direct call to __get. Or am I missing something here?

I read in Ext JS in Action ( by J. Garcia) that if we have an instance of Ext.data.Record, we can use the form's loadRecord method to set the form's values. However, he does not give a working example of this (in the example that he uses data is loaded into a form through a file called data.php). I get an error at the line 'formpanel.getForm().loadRecord(rec)' - it says 'Microsoft JScript runtime error: 'undefined' is null or not an object'. Any tips on how to solve this?
