• Edit PDF online and save and form data to server

  Hello, I have some PDF documents which are being displayed in the browser, with some fields already being pre-populated from the database using iTextSharp (we are running Windows Server 2008, IIS 7, SQL Server 2008, and ASP.NET 2.0/2.5 with C#). Our clients need to be able to fill in the remaining fields and save the PDF to the server. I have considered the following possibilities: 1.) Somehow using iTextSharp to parse the form fields, grab all the form data and save it to the database on submit. 2.) Adding a submit button to the PDF itself using LiveCycle with some sort of JS click event to save the FDF/XFDF/XDP/XML data either to the database or to a flat file on the server. I am currently unsure as to what the best approach would be, what would work, or how to implement any of these possible solutions, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

• Diamonds with question marks

  Hi, I'm getting these little diamonds with question marks in them in my HTML attributes when I present data from my database. I'm using EPiServer and a few custom properties. This is the information I've gathered, I save my data as a XML document, since I use custom EPiServer properties which need more than one defined value. This is saved as UTF8. It's only attributes in element tags which have this problem, such as align=left becomes align=?left?. There is no " character there, but I get the diamonds anyway. If I use " outside an element, it works and shows correctly. Any clues?

  Hi all, In my aplication, I want a tableview with different cell structure depending upon the category of data that's getting loaded in it [I have different categories like video, editorial etc with different structure of data like video has a single label, editorial has 3 labels etc]. I can load different nib files based on the data coming from xml parser. Now when the cell is tapped, I want to show its detailed view on a new viewController. So my question is is it possible to use only 1 viewController show different fields depending upon the category of data in the cell. Or do I need to create different viewControllers for each of the categories?

• Problem with TabHost UI layout.

  What I'm trying to do is create a layout like this: +--------+ Search |EditText| [Button] +--------+ +---------+ |Tab 1 |---------+ | |Tab 2 | |---------+---------+-----------------+ | ListView Item 1 | | ListView Item 2 | | ListView Item 3 | | ListView Item 4 | | ListView Item 5 | | ListView Item 6 | | ListView Item 7 | | ListView Item 8 | | ListView Item 9 | | ListView Item 10 | +-------------------------------------+ So that's a TextView saying 'Search', an EditText and a button. Then below it the tabs - Tab 1 has a ListView, Tab 2 some other stuff. I can get a simple TabHost setup with two tabs working fine but can't get the above to lay out properly. Any hints ? I'd create the UI in the Eclipse designer and check the XML from that, except the designer doesn't work with TabHost. And DroidDraw doesn't seem to know about TabHost.

  I have a resource that looks something like this: /users/{id}/summary?format={format} When format is "xml" or "json" I respond with a user summary object that gets automagically encoded by WCF - fine so far. But when format equals "pdf", I want my response to consist of a trivial HTTP response body and a PDF file attachment. How is this done? Hacking on WebOperationContext.Current.OutgoingResponse doesn't seem to work, and wouldn't be the right thing even if it did. Including the bits of the file in a CDATA section or something in the response isn't safe. Should I create a subclass of Message, then provide a custom IDispatchMessageFormatter that responds with it? I went a short distance down that path but ultimately found the documentation opaque. What's the right thing?

  I'm extracting some information from an XML file, and I want to perform some modifications on the data while keeping a copy of the original in a variable "origFile". • RelativeLayout - positioning a View under a ViewGroup

  I have the following structure defined in an xml layout file. <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/mainLayout" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <FrameLayout android:id="@+id/frame" android:layout_centerInParent="true" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" ></FrameLayout> <Button android:id="@+id/button" android:layout_below="@id/frame" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" /> </RelativeLayout> The FrameLayout is positioned correctly in the center of its parent. But the Button isn't getting positioned under it. Instead it's displaying in the top left corner. Am I doing something incorrectly or is this a bug with RelativeLayout?

  In Hibernate HQL, how would you query through a many-to-many association. If I have a Company with multiple ProductLines and other companies can offer these same product lines, I have a Company entity, a ProductLine entity and an association table CompanyProductLine. • jQuery ajax request to php, how to return plain text only

  I am making an ajax request to a php page and I cannot for the life of me get it to just return plain text. $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: '/shipping/test.php', cache: false, dataType: 'text', data: myData, success: function(data){ console.log(data) } }); in test.php I am including this script to get UPS rates. I am then calling the function with $rate = ups($dest_zip,$service,$weight,$length,$width,$height); I am doing echo $rate; at the bottom of test.php. When viewed in a browser shows the rate, that's great. But when I request the page via ajax I get a bunch of XML. Pastie here: http://pastie.org/1416142 My question is, how do I get it so I can just return the plain text string from the ajax call, where the result data will be a number?   Setup: 1) a string trie database formed from linked nodes and a vector array linking to the next node terminating in a leaf, 2) a recursive regular expression function that if A) char '*' continues down all paths until string length limit is reached, then continues down remaining string paths if valid, and B) char '?' continues down all paths for 1 char and then continues down remaining string paths if valid. 3) after reg expression the candidate strings are measured for edit distance against the 'try' string. Problem: the reg expression works fine for adding chars or swapping ? for a char but if the remaining string has an error then there is not a valid path to a terminating leaf; making the matching function redundant. I tried adding a 'step-over' ? char if the end of the node vector was reached and then followed every path of that node - allowing this step-over only once; resulted in a memory exception; I cannot find logically why it is accessing the vector out of range - bactracking? Questions: 1) how can the regular expression step over an invalid char and continue with the path? 2) why is swapping the 'sticking' char for '?' resulting in an overflow? Still have other issues to work out - it loops infinitely adding the ? and backtracking to remove it, then repeat. But, moving forward now. Revised question: why during backtracking is the position index accumulating and/or not deincrementing - so at somepoint it calls w->alpha[pos]... with an invalid position that is either remaining from the next node or somehow incremented pos+1 when passing upward?

• Which faces technology for use with GlassFish 2.1 and NetBeans 6.7?

  I'm running GlassFish 2.1 and using NetBeans 6.7. I'd like to create a web interface to my data using JSF 1.2. Trouble is, I'm not sure which 'faces' technology to learn (that includes some good documentation). JBoss/RichFaces seem pretty good on documentation, but I'm using GlassFish. Any thoughts? The choices appear overwhelming: Tomahawk Tobago Trinidad ICEfaces RCFaces Netadvantage WebGalileoFaces QuipuKit BluePrints Woodstock JBoss RichFaces Ajax4jsf ILOG Oracle ADF G4JSF Simplica Backbase jenia4faces VisualWebPack DynaFaces IBM Impl Dinamica Mojarra PrimeFaces jQuery OpenFaces ZK ExtJS Anybody had any experience with any of the above and found the documentation to be clear to a beginner? Being a JSF/Web beginner, I tried some ICEFaces, Mojarra tutorials and had a go at getting RichFaces working with NBeans and GlassFish, but no luck. Lots of XML complaints. I'm clearly missing some huge chunks of configuration, but I can't find any documentation to help me. Any suggestions would be much appreciated :-)

• Base64 Encoded Data - DB or Filesystem

  I have a new program that will be generating a lot of Base64 encoded audio and image data. This data will be served via HTTP in the form of XML and the Base64 data will be inline. These files will most likely break 20MB and higher. Would it be more efficient to serve these files directly from the filesystem or would it be feasible to store the data in a MySQL database? Caching will be set up but overall unnecessary because it is likely that this data will be purged shortly after it is created and served. i know that storing binary data in the DB is frowned upon in most circumstances but since this will all be character data I want to see what the consensus is. As of now, I am leaning toward storing them in the filesystem for efficiency reasons but if it is feasible to store them in a database it would be much easier to manage the data.

  Hello I've got an application which serves an rss feed of headlines and I need to provide this rss feed to other consumers. I don't want to provide the rss directly from my server though, due to limited server resources, so I need to proxy (cache) it through some service which will handle the load. Assuming the rss feed URL of my application is http://example.com/rss I initially provided my consumers with the url http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/services/feed/load?v=1.0&q=http%3A%2F%2Fexample.com%2Frss which solved my server load problem but introduced a liveness problem. The headlines are minutes to hours late from the actual feed (haven't exactly measured how much late). I've also tried distributing through feedburner so the url became something like http://feeds.feedburner.com/example123?format=xml but the liveness problem still exists. Is there a public and free solution for this problem? Anything below 5 minutes of liveness delay would be totally acceptable. thanks

  We have Tomcat 6 connecting to a Win2k3 Server running AD. We want ANY user under Security Groups OU to have access to the application and not just the CN. Tomcat does not search OU's and it just searches CN's in our case. How do we configure our settings so we can do OU level authorization and not just CN level ? thanks Mat

• Does background iOS require specific provisioning?

  I've added the appropriate XML to my PLIST ("audio key") and my app did stream audio in the background. I installed the app on to an iPhone 3GS running iOS 4 via Ad Hoc distribution. I played audio in my app and pressed the home key. It was still playing. Then I switched computers and reset my provisioning profile. I recompiled and exported with a generic provisioning profile. I sent the app to someone else to test on their 3GS via Ad Hoc and the app does not work in the background.

  Hi, I've got 2 files, my Application and a custom component. In my component I have a httpservice and a string named _requestUrl that is bindable. The httpservice uses this. <mx:HTTPService id="srv" url="{_requestUrl}" result="parseHttpResult(event)" resultFormat="xml" method="GET" useProxy="false"> </mx:HTTPService> In my application file I make an instance of my component in the onCreationComplete function. In this function if I say mycomponent._urlRequest ="http://mysite.com" the httpservice throws a null url error but if I say mycomponent.srv.url="http://mysite.com" it works fine. Why is this?
