• MFC (C++) CDialog DoModal() not working as expected

  Hi, I have a plugin that is loaded by this application.. This plugin calls some dialog boxes with DoModal(). I'm expecting these dialog boxes to function like this: If I click on the application window behind the dialog box, the dialog box flashes and does not allow the application to be in focus. However, in one of the other dialog boxes, called with DoModal(), if I click on the application window, it doesn't do the flashing thing, and after a while the application's close/minimize buttons become active (well, just the color). They're not really active and the window turns somewhat white and the title bar says (Not Responding)... What could possibly be wrong and how do I fix it? I've tried setting the dialog box's properties to System Modal: True, and Set Foreground: True but it doesn't seem to work.. :( Thanks.. EDIT: I'd like to note that the in the Windows taskbar, there is only one entry for the application for the correct behavior, but when the dialog box with the incorrect behavior is launched, another "window" is launched.. So it looks like (Application)(Dialog box title).. The effect I'm trying to achieve is just (Application)..

• Presenting collection of structures of strings in grid or similar in WPF - Example? Ideas?

  Hi, I have a collection of structures. The structure is just some strings. Example public struct ReportLine { public string Name; public string Address; public string Phone; ...// about 10 other strings } I can't change this part. What I want to do is display it in a simple grid or simlar in WPF. My only requirements are: a) need column headers b) rows must alternate in color c) columns big enough to hold largest datum (which is not know until run time) Can someone point me to an example to get me started? Is the GridView the way to go? Or DataGrid? Or perhaps just the grid? I have the book Pro WPF in C# 2008 and it covers binding ListBox's to collections, but the collections always seem to be collections of one field (ex. a collection of 40 names). Here I have a collection (an array in fact) of a structure. How do I setup the databinding? As you can see, I'm new to this and probably would most benefit from a reference to an article. I've found articles covering collections of 1 field, but no examples covering binding to an array of structures. Also, my intitial research indicates c) can't be easily done, if you demand that the column is big enough for all the data in that column, not just the visible data. Thanks, dave

• WCF Async callback setup for polled device

  I have a WCF service setup to control a USB fingerprint reader from our .Net applications. This works fine and I can ask it to enroll users and so on. The reader allows identification (it tells you that a particular user has presented their finger, as opposed to asking it to verify that a particular user's finger is present), but the device must be constantly polled while in identification mode for its status - when a user is detected the status changes. What I want is for an interested application to notify the service that it wants to know when a user is identified, and provide a callback that gets triggered when this happens. The WCF service will return immediately and spawn a thread in the background to continuously poll the device. This polling could go on for hours at a time if no one tries to log in. What's the best way to acheive this? My service contract is currently defined as follows: [ServiceContract (CallbackContract=typeof(IBiometricCallback))] public interface IBiometricWcfService { ... [OperationContract (IsOneWay = true)] void BeginIdentification(); ... } public interface IBiometricCallback { ... [OperationContract(IsOneWay = true)] void IdentificationFinished(int aUserId, string aMessage, bool aSuccess); ... } In my BeginIdentification() method can I easily spawn a worker thread to poll the device, or is it easier to make the WCF service asynchronous?

• paintComponent on JPanel, image flashes and then disappears

  I have a JApplet (MainClass extends JApplet), a JPanel (ChartWindow extends JPanel) and a Grafico class. The problem is that the Grafico class instance has 2 JPanel that should show 2 images (1 for each panel) but the images are shown and after a little while they disappears: instead of them i get a gray background (like an empty JPanel). • Tfs 2010: how to set up a corporate source server?

  Hi all, I'm looking for guidance in setting up a corporate source server, but when I google this topic the best I can come up with is articles and walkthrough concerned with configuring VS to use microsoft's public symbol servers for use with debugging .NET assemblies. Provided for background info, the environment I'm concerned with using is Vs2010/Tfs2010. Basically, the workflow I'm looking to facilitate is this: 1) customer reports problem with application 2) application of the appropriate version is installed on a virtual machine 3) developer repros bug attaching to process on virtual machine and leveraging source server (symbol server?) on corporate domain. This is the step I'm concerned with. 4) developer pinpoints problem fixes bug in workspace. 5) developer performs a dll swap on VM to test changes? (side topic, not sure on this) 6) normal development/source control workflows. Any advice is welcome! Edit: since writing this, I have stumbled on this article, which is a nice writeup on the configuration of source server for TFS 2008. Has anyone adapted this for Tfs 2010?

• Issues with simulating cell selection in Excel using PostMessage

  Hi all, So far I've tried drag/drop motion in many applications including Visualization software (moving time slider left/right), Photoshop-Paint (drawing) etc. I need some more testing before I make sure that my system works and it failed in Excel. I can even drag a plot around (with the code above) but it doesn't work for clicking and dragging the mouse to select multiple cells. It just doesn't do anything. I can't use SendInput because the window doesn't have the focus and is in background. Thanks!

• Google Maps: Simple app not working on IE

  We have a simple Google Maps traffic application up at: http://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/newsroom/traffic/ For some reason it's recently stopped working in IE correctly. At this point in time it was using V2 of the API, so I've just upgraded it to use V3 - but it still won't work in IE. It works fine in Chrome & Firefox. But in all versions of IE I've tired (6,7,8) the Google Map doesn't load fully. The problem The Google Map DIV will generally load all the controls (Zoom, Powered by Google, map types) but the actual map tiles do not appear in IE. • Weird problem with PHP mail() under Linux.

  This is the case when it "works on my machine". Except that my machine is Windows, and the target is some sort of Linux. The idea is that the mail() function puts a newline between the MIME-Version and Content-Type headers, thus breaking the whole thing. • vlcj not displaying the video

  I'm using vlcj to play video, but the video doesn't display on some computers(i tested in 4 and worked on 2, all windows), on 1 it displays the button but not the video and on the other it just display a gray background without the button. I tested .wmv and .avi files. • CSS Table Formatting to a HTML Table

  I am attempting to provide CSS formating to two HTML tables, but I cannot. I am setting up a webpage in HTML & CSS (with the CSS in an external sheet) and the layout of the website depends on the tables. There are 2 tables, one for the head and another for the body. They are set up whereas content is situated in one middle column of 60% width, with one column on each side of the center with 20% width each, along with other table formatting. My question is - how can I format the tables in CSS? I successfully formatted them in HTML, but this will not do. This is the CSS code for the tables - each table has the id layouttable: #layouttable{border:0px;width:100%;} #layouttable td{width:20%;vertical-align:top;} #layouttable td{width:60%;vertical-align:top;background-color:#E8E8E8;} #layouttable td{width:20%;vertical-align:top;} The tables in the html document both each have, in respective order, these elements (with content inside not shown): <table id="layouttable"><tr><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr></table> Does anyone have any idea why this CSS is not working, or can write some code to fix it? • CSS Experts required - problems with Z-Index stack in my page design

  Howdy y'all! Basically I'm having some problems with Z-Index. Although I'm not amazing at CSS I would reckon I was reasonably good, but really can't work this out. You'll see at the URL... http://howcode.com/code/ ... that my problem is that links in the returned 'Popular' results aren't clickable or anything. I've concluded this is due to their Z-Index being messed up. I had to fiddle and tweak with Z-Index to get the tabs - Popular, Top Rated, Featured etc. - to show above the codebg div. When I adjusted the Z-Index so that the results were definitely on top, they acted as normal - text could be selected, the ratings images hovered, etc. etc. However the downside to this was that my Popular, Top Rated, Featured tabs were all placed BENEATH the background image for the returned results. If anyone can post a workaround or alteration to my CSS that would be much appreciated. Please don't forget this is a test site and design and any other URLs are likely not to work, I haven't uploaded any database configs yet or whatever! • WPF: Binding an integer to a TextBlock with TemplateBinding

  I have a custom control in WPF. In this I have a DependencyProperty of the type integer. In the template for the custom control I have a TextBlock, I and would like to show the value of the integer in the TextBlock. But I can't get it to work. I'm using TemplateBinding. If I use the same code but change the type of the DependencyProperty to string it works fine. But I really want it to be an integer for the rest of my application to work. How can I do this? I've written simplified code that shows the problem. • Is learning C++ a good idea?

  The more I hear and read about C++ (e.g. this: http://lwn.net/Articles/249460/), I get the impression, that I'd waste my time learning C++. I some wrote network routing algorithm in C++ for a simulator, and it was a pain (as expected, especially coming from a perl/python/Java background ...). I'm never happy about giving up on some technology, but I would be happy, if I could limit my knowledge of C-family languages to just C, C# and Objective-C (even OS Xs Cocoa, which is huge and takes a lot of time to learn looks like joy compared to C++ ...). Do I need to consider myself dumb or unwilling, just because I'm not partial to the pain involved learning this stuff? Technologies advance and there will be options other than C++, when deciding on implementation languages, or not? And for speed: If speed were that critical, I'd go for a plain C implementation instead, or write C extensions for much more productive languages like ruby or python ... The one-line version of the above: Will C++ stay such a relevant language that every committed programmer should be familiar with it? • Moving from NHibernate to FluentNHibernate: assembly error (related to versions)?

  Not sure where to start, but I had gotten the most recent version of NHibernate, successfully mapped the most simple of business objects, etc. When trying to move to FluentNHibernate and do the same thing, I got this error message on build: "System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'NHibernate, Version=2.1.0.4000, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=aa95f207798dfdb4' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference." Background: I'm new to Hibernate, NHibernate, and FluentNHibernate -- but not to .NET, C#, etc. Database I have a database table called Category: (PK) CategoryID (type: int), unique, auto-incrementing UserID (type: uniqueidentifier) -- given the value of the user Guid in ASP.NET database Title (type: varchar(50) -- the title of the category Components involved: I have a SessionProviderClass which creates the mapping to the database I have a Category class which has all the virtual methods for FluentNHibernate to override I have a CategoryMap : ClassMap class, which does the fluent mappings for the entity I have a CategoryRepository class that contains the method to add & save the category I have the TestCatAdd.aspx file which uses the CategoryRepository class. Would be happy to post code for any of those, but I'm not sure that it's necessary, as I think the issue is that somewhere there's a version conflict between what FluentNHibernate references and the NHibernate I have installed from before. Scenario 3: The user enters a new record: alert_id 2 n_number 6 end_date NULL Objective: Notify the user that this alert_id has occurred in the past (i.e. it has a not-null end_date), but allow the user to commit the row, if desired. I've written the code, which seems to comply with the first two scenarios, but prevents me from fulfilling the third. Issues: When I enter the third scenario case, I am prompted to commit the record, but when I attempt this, the "duplicate_stop" alert pops up, preventing me. Issues: I'm getting the following error: ORA-01843: not a valid month. While testing the code for the third scenario in Toad (hard-coding the values, etc) things seemed to be fine. Why would I encounter these problems at run-time? Help is very much appreciated. Thank you

• How to make flash movie to scale proportunatly to div width?

  I have put together an example page detailing my problem My website is going to have a main wrapper that is set to a max-width property for compatible browsers. It will stretch to 940px across at max. When scaled down I would like the swf to scale proportionately with it. Like an image with width percent applied. The flash movie has the dimensions of 940 × 360 pixels. I can't seem to figure out the correct attributes to add to the embed tag to get it to do this. I am currently using jquery flash embed, but am open to other options, though this is my ideal. In the example I have set the flash background to black. When resize the browser window the flash movie doesn't scale proportionately to the div, only the photo does, leaving a blank canvas (black), while the div height stays the same. I can't add a height value in the CSS. How do I make this scale correctly? Adding a noscale param only crops the image. The swf's height doesn't scale also. • Technique for selectively formatting data in a PowerShell pipeline and output as HTML

  Say that you want to do some fancy formatting of some tabular output from powershell, and the destination is to be html (either for a webserver, or to be sent in an email). Let's say for example that you want certain numeric values to have a different background color. Whatever. I can think of two solid programmatic ways to accomplish this: output XML and transform with XSLT, or output HTML and decorate with CSS. XSLT is probably the harder of the two (I say that because I don't know it), but from what little I recall, it has the benefit of bring able to embed the selection criteria (xpath?) for aforementioned fancy formatting. CSS on the other hand needs a helping hand. If you wanted a certain cell to be treated specially, then you would need to distinguish it from its siblings with a class, id, or something along those lines. PowerShell doesn't really have a way to do that natively, so that would mean parsing the HTML as it leaves convertto-html and adding, for example, a "emphasis" class: <td class="emphasis">32MB</td> I don't like the idea of the required text parsing, especially given that I would rather be able to somehow emphasize what needs emphasizing in Powershell before it hits HTML. Is XSLT the best way? Have suggestions for how to markup the HTML after it leaves convertto-html or ideas of a different way?

• How do I controll clipping with non-opaque graphics-item's in Qt?

  I have a bunch of QGraphicsSvgItem's in a QGraphicsScene that are drawn connected by QGraphicsLineItem's. This show's a graph of a tree-structure. What I want to do is provide a feature where everything but a selected sub-tree becomes transparent. A kind of "highlight this sub-tree" feature. That part was easy, but the results are ugly because now the lines can be seen through the semi-transparent svg's. I am looking for some way to still clip other QGraphicsItem's in the scene to the svg item's, giving the effect that the svg's are semi-transparent windows to the background. How do I get the QGraphicsSvgItem's (or QGraphicsEllipseItem's in the example code) to still clip the lines even though they are semi-transparent?
