  • How to turn dynamic URL into static URL

    - by Rafael Carvalho
I am developing a website using PHP and Apache. I wanna turn my URLs from www.example.com/book.php?book=title into something like this, if it is possible of course: www.example.com/book/title Notice that the title of the books are unique and cannot be repeated. I`ve read about this, but none of the posts were clear enough for a beginner like me. Do you guys know any tutorial that explains that? Thanks.

  • Redirecting exec output to a buffer or file

    - by devin
I'm writing a C program where I fork(), exec(), and wait(). I'd like to take the output of the program I exec'ed to write it to file or buffer. For example, if I exec ls I want to write file1 file2 etc to buffer/file. I don't think there is a way to read stdout, so does that mean I have to use a pipe? Is there a general procedure here that I haven't been able to find?

  • Can GPL interface with MIT library

    - by dmontain
I inherited a GPL project which I'm trying to improve. I know of an MIT library that could really help me improve this project. I know its developer personally and I read his blog, and he's made it clear on several occasions that he likes MIT and Apache licenses. My questions: Do I have to tell him that I'm using his library in a GPL project? Is it ok for my GPL project to interface with his MIT library?

  • Terminology: opposite of "zero copy"?

    - by Mark Harrison
We're benchmarking some code that we've converted to use sendfile(), the linux zero-copy system call. What's the term for the traditional read()/write() loop that sendfile() replaces? I.e., in our report I want to say "zerocopy is X millisecs, and ??? is Y millisecs." What word/phrase should I use?

  • How do you create a MANIFEST.MF that's available when you're testing and running from a jar in produ

    - by warvair
I've spent far too much time trying to figure this out. This should be the simplest thing and everyone who distributes Java applications in jars must have to deal with it. I just want to know the proper way to add versioning to my Java app so that I can access the version information when I'm testing, e.g. debugging in Eclipse and running from a jar. Here's what I have in my build.xml: <target name="jar" depends = "compile"> <property name="version.num" value="1.0.0"/> <buildnumber file="build.num"/> <tstamp> <format property="TODAY" pattern="yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss" /> </tstamp> <manifest file="${build}/META-INF/MANIFEST.MF"> <attribute name="Built-By" value="${user.name}" /> <attribute name="Built-Date" value="${TODAY}" /> <attribute name="Implementation-Title" value="MyApp" /> <attribute name="Implementation-Vendor" value="MyCompany" /> <attribute name="Implementation-Version" value="${version.num}-b${build.number}"/> </manifest> <jar destfile="${build}/myapp.jar" basedir="${build}" excludes="*.jar" /> </target> This creates /META-INF/MANIFEST.MF and I can read the values when I'm debugging in Eclipse thusly: public MyClass() { try { InputStream stream = getClass().getResourceAsStream("/META-INF/MANIFEST.MF"); Manifest manifest = new Manifest(stream); Attributes attributes = manifest.getMainAttributes(); String implementationTitle = attributes.getValue("Implementation-Title"); String implementationVersion = attributes.getValue("Implementation-Version"); String builtDate = attributes.getValue("Built-Date"); String builtBy = attributes.getValue("Built-By"); } catch (IOException e) { logger.error("Couldn't read manifest."); } } But, when I create the jar file, it loads the manifest of another jar (presumably the first jar loaded by the application - in my case, activation.jar). Also, the following code doesn't work either although all the proper values are in the manifest file. Package thisPackage = getClass().getPackage(); String implementationVersion = thisPackage.getImplementationVersion(); Any ideas?

  • Generic JSON parser in .NET / WPF?

    - by niklassaers
I've read lots of tutorials on how to deserialize a JSON object to an object of a particular using DataContractJsonSerializer. However, I'd like to deserialize my object to a Dictionary consisting of either Strings, Arrays or Dictionaries, such as System.Json does with SilverLight when I say JsonObject.Parse(myJSONstring). Is there an equivalent to System.Json that I can use in my WPF project? (just a short background: I'm fetching JSON objects that have way to much info, and I just want to use a little bit to fill out a String array) Cheers Nik

  • Reading Web 2.0 HTML Source Code with Perl

    - by Sammy
Is it possible to read HTML Web 2.0 Source Code that is dynamically generated ? The Perl LWP with its agent-response does not pick up any dynamically generated HTML code. Many websites today are generating dynamic html. If I am shoppping for best prices, and the prices are dynamically fetched and dumped, then I am out of business. Are we reaching the end of a era?

  • binding a usercontrol to the opposite of a bool property

    - by SnOrfus
    Pretty straightforward: I'm looking to do the same as this but in winforms. Everything that google seems to pull up is wpf specific (ie. I don't want to reference presentationframework.dll) Explained if you don't want to read the link: The following is a representation of the intent of what I'd like to do, though it obviously doesn't work. CheckBox1.DataBindings.Add(new Binding("Checked", this.object, "!SomeBool"));

What makes more sense? use one socket to send and receive data to/from a embedded hardware device use one socket to send data and separate socket to read data Communication is not very intensive but the important point is to receive data as fast as possible. On application side is used Windows XP and up.

  • For what reasons do some programmers vehemently hate languages where whitespace matters (e.g. Python

    - by Maulrus
C++ is my first language, and as such I'm used to whitespace being ignored. However, I've been toying around with Python, and I don't find it too hard to get used to the whitespace rules. It seems, however, that a lot of programmers on the Internet can't get past the whitespace rules. From what I've seen, peoples' C++ programs tend to be formatted very consistently with respect to whitespace (or else it's pretty hard to read), so why do some people have such a problem with whitespace-based languages like Python?

  • Rails on Google App Engine - Error on OS X development machine

    - by Phillip Parker
Hi, I'm running through the Ruby on Rails tutorial at http://guides.rubyonrails.org/getting_started.html (adjusting where appropriate for Google's App Engine). All is well up till section 6.3: when I try to click "New Post", I get the following error: Internal Server Error (500) Request Method: GET Request URL: http://localhost:8080/500.html access denied (java.io.FilePermission /dev/urandom read) It works fine when I upload the application to Google's App Engine; it's just on my development machine (OS X 10.6) that it doesn't work. Thanks in advance.
