  • Desktop mono app and MVC/MVP framework

    I am looking for a MVC/MVP (mvp prefferably) framework for my first mono app. There doesn't seem to be too much out there, but I have found the following: http://www.mvcsharp.org/ http://desktoprails.osl.ull.es/doku.php I've been looking into both for some time, and MVC# seems to be closer to what I want. The issue is that MVC# seems to be a .net project and not designed specifically for mono (as opposed to desktop rails), so I'm not 100% sure how it will play with mono. Also, it is under the Microsoft Public License (MsPL), and I am not sure how well that license will play with other components I intend to use that are gpl/mit/apache/etc. So if anyone has any experience with either of these frameworks in mono and can answer any of these questions, I would appreciate any feedback.

  • Extracting Demographic and Contact Information from unstructured text files

    I am looking to extract specific items out of a large pool of unstructured documents. These documents could be 1-5 pages of text formatted in various ways by the user, but in most cases would contain at least: Name Address (physical) Email Address Phone number website URL I'm looking for a semantic parser that can attempt to extract these elements from the documents so that I can load that information into a relational database and work with these records as contacts.   • Javascript force GC collection? / Forcefully free object?

    I have a js function for playing any given sound using the Audio interface (creating a new instance for every call). This works quite well, until about the 32nd call (sometimes less). This issue is directly related to the release of the Audio instance. I know this because I've allowed time for the GC in Chromium to run and it will allow me to play another 32 or so sounds again. I need a way to release the sound immediately. Is it possible to do this? I have found no free/close/unload method for the Audio interface. The pages will be viewed locally, so the constant loading of sounds is not a big factor at all (and most sounds are rather short).

  • parsing raw email in php

    i'm looking for good/working/simple to use php code for parsing raw email into parts. i've written a couple of brute force solutions, but everytime, one small change/header/space/something comes along and my whole parser fails and the project falls apart. and before i get pointed at PEAR/PECL, i need actual code. my host has some screwy config or something, i can never seem to get the .so's to build right. if i do get the .so made, some difference in path/environment/php.ini doesnt always make it available (apache vs cron vs cli) oh, and one last thing, i'm parsing the raw email text, NOT pop3, and NOT imap. its being piped into the php script via a .qmail email redirect. i'm not expecting SOF to write it for me, i'm looking for some tips/starting points on doing it "right". this is one of those "wheel" problems that i know has already been solved.

    I'm currently looking at purchasing a few C# 4.0 books, namely: Essential C# 4.0 by Mark Michaelis or C# 4.0 Unleashed by Bart De Smet. I am aware that both books are yet to be released, but would you consider purchasing either of these books, or would you recommend another? Thanks for your time. Clarification: I'm not a .net Ninja, but I do have 8+ years experience with the framework & related languages. So I'm generally looking for in-depth books. I also train/instruct the rest of my organisation generally 6 - 12 months after each .net release. Each of the developers I train has the same or more .net experience then myself.     I learning ASP.net, and am looking to create a rather straightforward WebForms ASP.net application, but I have very limited examples to work with. Is there a site that has a lot of ASP.net WebForms projects that are downloadable? Books seem to focus on narrow aspects of using Webforms, like session control, or using master pages, but I'm looking for examples of how a whole app comes together. Or, better yet, is there someone willing to help a new developer out one-on-one by sharing a project or two of his? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

  • google maps not working anymore at the drop of a hat

    2 days ago, I was working on a project that involves google maps. The website showed the maps on the pages just fine. Now, I come back to my workstation, nothing has changed, expect for the fact that the google maps won't show up anymore. The code is identical, nobody has touched my machine since I was gone, I've checked the html, everything is perfect and still this isn't working... The Javascript console is giving no errors and the code is identical to a backup I make everytime I call it a day. 2 days ago it was working, today it isn't. I've even copied the source code, put it into an html file and tried that, but the same result. I'm at a loss here.   • Choosing a plotting library for web/browser application

    Hello, I am looking for a plotting/graphing library (mostly to do line plots) for my application. I have been looking at JavaScript APIs (like Google's) but I found them to be slowing down things at client side (I am plotting a quite large number of points). I also found that with client-side libraries, the performance was quite varied depending on the user's computer. With moving to a server-side library I would cut down on this variance, and would have more control over data flow (my data is in a MySQL database). I have then looked at some PHP-based plotting libraries, but a lot of them seem to be "forgotten" (no new version for years). I have been eying pChart, but it has not had an update in almost two years. First, what would you recommend: server-side or client-side approach? Second, what library would you recommend. Paid libraries are definitely an option, as I don't mind paying for quality software that would cut down on my development time. Thanks,

    I've been looking around for a while now and the best guide I've seen so far is Dr Nic's DIY widgets how to (here). I haven't been able to make something like this work: Assuming this is my widget code: <script src="http://mysite/nomnoms.js"> </script> And my nomnoms controller looks like (assume that the list partial exists and simply lists down a link to the show page of each nomnom in the @nomnoms variable): class NomnomsController < ApplicationController def index @nomnoms = Nomnom.find(:all) @content = render_to_string(:partial => 'list') end end And in the index.js of my nomnoms_controller I have: page << "document.write('<div>'" page << "document.write('#{@content.to_json}')" page << "</div>" The above setup doesn't render anything :(. But when I change the second line of index.js to: page << "document.write('nomnoms should be here') ...the widget renders the text.     I have created a PHP script and I am lacking to extract the primary key, I have given flow below, please help me in how can i modify to get primary key I am using MySQL DB, working for Joomla, My requirement is tracking the activity like insert/update/delete on any table and store it in another audit table using triggers, i.e. I am doing Auditing. DB's table structure: Few tables dont have any PK nor auto increment key Flow of my script is : I fetch out all table from DB. I check whether the table have any trigger or not. If yes then it moves to check nfor next table and so on. If it does'nt find any trigger then it creates the triggers for the table, such that, -it first checks if the table has any primary key or not(for inserting in Tracking audit table for every change made) if it has the primary key then it uses it further in creation of trigger. if it doesnt find any PK then it proceeds further in creating the trigger without inserting any id in audit table Now here, My problem is I need the PK every time so that I can record the id of any particular table in which the insert/update/delete is performed, so that further i can use this audit track table to replicate in production DB.. Now as I haave mentioned earlier that I am not available with PK/auto-incremented in some table, then what should I do get the particular id in which change is done? please guide me...GEEKS!!!

  • Can Visual Studio 2010 do ".inc" file syntax highlighting?

    Can Visual Studio 2010 be configured to do syntax highlighting on ".inc" files? We have numerous large projects with tons of these ".inc" files (asp files) and so changing the file extension to ".asp" is not an option. All I want Visual Studio 2010 to do is treat these ".inc" files just like ".asp" files when it comes to syntax highlighting. I've tried "Open With..." and selected the HTML Editor, which is the ".asp" default, but that did not work. I tried about every other editor in the list and none of them worked. I know Notepad++ (among others) can do this, but I would prefer this be done in Visual Studio 2010 - using another IDE or text editor is not the answer I'm looking for here. Many many thanks to anyone who knows how to configure VS 2010 to do this, I've wasted soooo much time looking for a way to do this. Even registry hacks are welcome.     Hi there i've built a new script (from scratch not a CMS) and i've done alot of work on reducing memory usage and the time it takes for the page to be displayed (caching HTML etc) There's one thing that i'm not sure about though. Take a simple example of an article with a comments section. If the comment form posts to another page that then redirects back to the article page I won't have the problem of people clicking refresh and resending the information. However if I do it that way, I have to load up my script twice use twice as much memory and it takes twice as long whilst i'm still only displaying the page once. Here's an example from my load log. The first load of the article is from the cache, the second rebuilds the page after the comment is posted. Example 1 0 queries using 650856 bytes of memory in 0.018667 - domain.com/article/1/my_article.html 9 queries using 1325723 bytes of memory in 0.075825 - domain.com/article/1/my_article/newcomment.html 0 queries using 650856 bytes of memory in 0.029449 - domain.com/article/1/my_article.html Example 2 0 queries using 650856 bytes of memory in 0.023526 - domain.com/article/1/my_article.html 9 queries using 1659096 bytes of memory in 0.060032 - domain.com/article/1/my_article.html Obviously the time fluctuates so you can't really compare that. But as you can see with the first method I use more memory and it takes longer to load. BUT the first method avoides the refresh problem. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best approach or for alternative ways to avoid the extra load (admittadely minimal but i'd still like to avoid it) whilst also avoiding the refresh problem?

    One of my projects needs to show users where they rank in certain calculations. I inherited the graph structure from the previous programmer and had to leave it alone while I worked on other parts of the site. It's time to make the graphs more meaningful, so I'm looking for books/websites/etc about graphs. (Not graph theory!) Charts that convey comparisons at a glance. Everyone suggests The Visual Display of Quantitative Information by Edward Tufte and that's spot on for what I'm looking for, so anything related to that would be great. Naturally, personal experience about what to do or not would be helpful as well.

  • jQuery crashing Internet Explorer

    Hello. Okay basically, I'm designing and developing a fairly complicated website which revolves around the use of jQuery.. My knowlege of jQuery is really poor and this is the first time I've properly used it. I posted a question here before about the script and apparently its awful, but I didn't show you exactly what I was actually writing it for, which I can now.. Because I've uploaded it onto a test directory. It now works fine in every browser other than IE. The CSS styling is getting there and it should be close to finish soon! However, Internet Explorer is showing bad problems.. In IE 7,8 it looks fine but when you go to hover over a link, it immediately crashes. IE 6, the display doesn't seem to be working properly at all. But IE 6 is a lesser problem. If you could take just 5 or 10 minutes to potentially rewrite a simple script which would potentially take me 10 hours, I would be so so grateful!     hi guys. I'm looking to create a simple app which will send keystrokes from an iphone to a PC. I understand that I will need to have a program on my PC "listening"... I've been looking in to AsyncSocket and NSStream, but there are no tutorials which really make it clear to understand. Does anyone know if this is right? I basically want to interact with a program on my PC which listens for keystrokes to control it. Does anyone know of a tutorial or place where I could start to learn this? (I've written iphone apps before, but I am new to networking)

  • DisplayObject snapshot in flex 3

    i'm creating a visual editor in flex and need to let users export thier projects into Image format. But i have one problem: size of the canvas is fixed and when user add element which is out of these sizes some scroll bars added. And user continue working on the project. but when he want to take snapshot of the canvas he just get the visible part ot the canvas with scrollbars. how to get image of the fullsize canvas? The only solution i found is to check the positions and sizes of canvas child objects and rezise it to fit them. then take snap and resize back. But it hmmmm... too complicated i think.
